Island School to Celebrate 35 Years - Feb. 3rd
You are all invited to Island School’s 35th Birthday Assembly, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Wilcox Gymnasium. Our Island School halau, the middle and keiki chorus groups will perform. The student body, led by several student representatives will recite the poem written especially for us by Leinani Springer, He Le Aloha. Community service projects both on and off campus have been organized for all students and will begin directly following the assembly. School will be dismissed at the usual time.
Midterm Next Week
Believe it or not, next Wednesday, Jan. 25, is midterm! Classes in middle and high school will be giving midterm exams as scheduled in RenWeb. Progress Reports will be issued to students whose grades fall below a ‘C.’ Parents and students who have concerns are, as always, encouraged to contact their students’ individual teachers.

Used railroad ties from Kilohana have been cleverly transformed into new steps on the keiki playground.

Senior Class Lucky Drawing Ends Tomorrow
The Class of 2012’s “Lucky Drawing” fundraiser ends next week with the drawing taking place on Monday, January 23rd. The seniors have Lucky Drawing tickets available for a suggested donation of $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. Funds raised will go towards expenses for their post graduation dinner festivities. Make a Scene at Island School
Theatre-lovers won’t want to miss Island School’s first high school theatre festival on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Hall. Five short scenes and plays from our own students will be featured along side two scenes and plays from the Kaua‘i Performing Arts Center (KPAC). Admission is FREE. Content is appropriate for age 12+. Parents should use discretion in bringing their children, as some subject matter is adult in nature. I.S. Chronicles CHORUS – All 44 members of the Island School Alaka’i Chorus will be attending an incredible 3-day choral workshop in Honolulu. They will join 350+ high school chorus students from across the state to learn music to present at a free public concert at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, at the Central Union Church. The group is to report to the Lihu‘e Airport tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. sharp! GEOGRAPHY – Congratulations to 8th grader Jordan Grainger, Island School’s 2012 National Geographic Geography Bee winner. She will represent Island School On O‘ahu at the State Geography Bee on March 30, 2012. Kudos to all the participants: 4th - Malia Splittstoesser, 5th Dominic LaFratta, 6th - Ethan Jeal and Kenz Hubbard, 7th - Luke McIntosh and Keoni Downer, 8th - Josh Miller and Jordan Grainger. FIRST GRADE – Students have been reading two books: Stone Soup and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. To highlight these stories, they have been making Stone Soup (yum) and using egg cartons to make caterpillars. KIF SOCCER – Kudos to team captains, Keana Green and Lily Mindel and the Girls Soccer team for their 4-0 win over Waimea Monday! Freshman, Madison Moore scored three points and senior, Lily Mindel scored one. Their final game is this Thursday (today) against Kaua‘i High at 4 p.m. on our home field. Our Boys team played yesterday and will also play here Saturday against Waimea at 10:00.
