Tune in to Hiki Nō Tonight
Hiki Nō is a PBS Hawai‘i student news network that features studentproduced news segments. This is the third appearance on Hiki Nō by our high school Video Production class. This one, mostly filmed and narrated by senior, Gabe Figueroa, is about an Island School alumnus, Luke Evslin, ‘03, who owns Kamanu Composites. It is an interesting story about Luke’s foray into the world of paddling and his recent near-death experience. The show will air tonight at 7:30 on PBS. Hopefully, you can all tune in. If not, we will publish the link to the site once it is online.

Third Grade Pancake Breakfast on Family Workday
Tickets will be on sale tomorrow, in front of the school, for this 3rd grade fund raising event, scheduled for Saturday, February 16, from 7 - 10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the class’s annual trip to O‘ahu. Tickets are $7, and automatically enter you into a drawing for special prizes. Menu includes: fresh fruit medley, pancakes, rice, scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, coffee, tea and juice. Plan on attending the Family Work Day, immediately afterward.
Midterm Progress Reports Emailed Tomorrow Students in grades 6-12 receive grades at the mid-point of each
trimester. Comments are always included if the grade falls below a “C” or if the citizenship grade is a “U.” High School student scheduling for trimester 3 will begin next week.

Make Money With Your Art … or show it at a prime spot in Kukui Grove. Students are invited to submit pieces for a show being organized by senior, Griffin Lord. All kinds of art – paintings, photography, sculptures – can be for submitted for consideration. Space is very limited, so submit photographs of your pieces to Griffin ASAP at glord13@ischool. org. The show is part of Griffin’s senior project.

Kim was also accepted at Pacific University of Oregon in Forest Grove, Oregon where she was awarded an Honors Scholarship.

Birthdays - a time to give In honor of Island School’s 36th birthday, our students give back to the community that has been so generous. After tomorrow’s birthday assembly, our students will spend the day on service projects benefitting their school and their community. Here’s what is planned:
Middle
6th: Students will volunteer their services at the Humane Society, cleaning cages and playing with the animals. 7th: The class will remove debris from the beach and park areas at Lydgate Beach Park.
Elementary
Several classes will spend some time working on their auction projects for the Pirate Ball on March 16th.
8th: Students will assist Malama Na ‘Apapa with a beach clean-up at Nukoli‘i Beach on the east side.
High
PK/5 - Buddies will team up for a 9th: Freshmen will plant orchids and perform clean-up on the Island School/KCC/ grounds maintenance at Lawai International Center. Kilohana bypass road. 10th: Sophomores will build and refurbish picnic K/3 - Buddies will join to visit with tables on campus, and assist elementary students and read to elderly residents at Regency at Pua Kea. with their various on-campus projects. 1st - Students will make plaques to label the endangered Rosewood trees, recently planted on campus.
11th: Juniors will travel to Hanchett Ranch in Moloa‘a to mend fences, plant native trees and shrubs, and care for horses.
2nd - Students will do a campus clean-up.
12th: Seniors will spend the day at Maha‘ulepu, where they will remove invasive species and plant native trees and shrubs at Makauwahi Caves.
4th: Students will meet with an administrator from Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity (KEO) and learn about We hope you can join us for the assembly, beginning the services they offer.
