Are Auction Treasures Hiding at Your House?

There just might be a treasure at your house waiting to be donated to the auction. This is very different from a garage or yard sale. We’re looking for something special for which you no longer have need or room: a framed painting, heirloom silver or china, unused appliances or electronics; antiques. If you have such an item, please send in a description to the auction committee: auction@ischool. org or call Lulu or Daryl at 246-0233. If they think it can be added to the silent auction tables, they will gladly accept it. Don’t forget, if you own or manage a business, you might be able to add an item or certificate to the auction. And - it’s a tax deduction!

One More Week to Support the Jogathon!

Proceeds help fund the purchase of new PE and playground equipment. It’s easy to make a donation. Visit the ischool.org website and click on “Giving.” Jogathon donations can be made in the “Special Projects” field. Post the Jogathon on your Facebook page with the giving link. Packets are due the day of

the event, which is next Friday, February 17, at Po‘ipu Beach Park. All students in grades K-5 will attend.

Hundreds of pounds of marine debris and derelict fishing nets were removed from an isolated section of Nawiliwili Harbor. Our students, led by Steve Soltysik, Kate Mink and James Massaro, surveyed an area of the beach, cleaned it and will study it for 20 years, especially noting any Japan tsunami debris.

Giving Back to Our Community Both on and off campus, Island School students performed their ho‘okupu as a way to say thank-you to our island community.

(Clockwise from left) Sophomores performed numerous on-campus jobs, including cleaning up the gym after the assembly and painting the conference table in their Hala classroom. Second graders learned about The Sustainable Institute of Kaua‘i and picked old chick pea pods in the KCC organic Community Garden, saving the seeds for replanting. They also read stories to the PK. Fifth graders learned to crochet and made hats to be donated to Wilcox Hospital for premature babies. Fourth graders removed dead ti leaves and raked the center courtyard’s corner gardens. Na Pua Keiki created a mural to be on display in the Wilcox Hospital cafeteria. They also made stained glass pictures to be hung in the windows on the hospital’s 4th floor.
