High School Book Buy-Back Exercises for the Class of 2012, on Saturday, June 9, at 5:00 p.m. in the June 1-8 Sell your books at our online bookstore, MBS Direct, print your quote, then drop it off along with your quote to Alice in the Logo Store. Books will be accepted from June 1 - 8, from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. and from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Use the MBS Direct Bookstore account you set up when you purchased your books. Wilcox Gymnasium. Our twenty-five graduating seniors will make speeches and give presentations as they reach this important milestone in their lives. Members of the class of 2013 and their families help with set-up and clean-up for this event. Highlights include the presentation of the Senior Awards: Board of Directors, Head of School, Founders’ Spirit and Sons and Daughters of Island School. The Gannon Loomis Memorial Scholarship will also be presented. This promises to be a memorable experience for all in attendance.

Summer School Changes
Judah Freed, who will teach English at Island School next year, has made some changes to his summer school course offerings. He is offering three separate classes in June and July: English Fundamentals, Logic and Critical Thinking and Study Skills. Please see the attached flyer for detailed information.

Schedule Changes for Next Week
Details of next week’s final exams and bus schedules are outlined on page 4 of this week’s PC. Please review them carefully and contact the Office if you have any questions.
Click on the Calendar tab on our website. Students should also bring a morning snack & water. Lunch will be provided: hot dogs, veggie dogs, carrots, watermelon, & lemonade. There will be no afternoon bus service. Parents should pick their children up at the Po‘ipu Beach Park large pavilion at 12:30 p.m. Parents are invited to spend the morning with us. Please be advised that students will not be allowed to leave the beach park until a confirmed pick-up person arrives. Students must sign out with their homeroom teacher prior to departure.
Move Up Day
Elementary students will “move up” to their next grade next Thursday after Morning Circle. The tradition begins with the 5th graders vacating their Morning Circle spot, and each lower grade moving into their next spot on the Main Hall floor. Students then visit their next year’s classroom for a special activity with their new teacher. (below) High School students cleaned up nicely for Saturday’s Prom!
Summer Beach Blast-Off Friday
Students in grades PK-8 will travel to Po‘ipu Beach Park at 8:15 on Friday, June 8, the last day of school. They should bring a towel, swimsuit, and sunscreen. (Please label all belongings)

Eighth Graders at Just Live!

They worked together and demonstrated cooperation and persistence when faced with a new challenge. At the end of the day, everyone left quietly and tired – but definitely smiling. SPANISH – Maestra Wong has organized a summer trip to Spain. The group leaves on June 20, and will visit Barcelona, Madrid and surrounding towns with EF Tours. After the tour, they are traveling on their own until July 15. Those going include: Serena Wong, ‘12, Kalena Wong, ‘14, and Austin Taylor, ‘13. This is the first time these students have visited Europe. They are sure to return with a greater appreciation and fluency of the Spanish language and a deeper cultural understanding for that part of Europe.
EIGHTH GRADE – 8th Grade Transition is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th graders, both as individuals and as a class. It is time to reflect on the middle school experience and to anticipate the exciting years ahead. The day began on Tuesday with a delicious pancake breakfast at the Frear Center. Chocolate Chip pancakes, sausage, and blueberries were enjoyed by all. During a brief ceremony, students reflected on each member of the class and expressed admiration, respect and affection for their classmates. After breakfast, students headed to the high ropes course at Just Live. They spent the day problem-solving and team-building in a Norfolk Pine forest that is over 200 years old. Next Year’s PA Meetings
The first PA Meeting next year will take place on August 14, at 1:00 p.m. After that, monthly PA meetings will be held on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Teachers’ Workroom.
