Cheer Camp During Fall Break
Ms. Rachelle is offering her popular cheer leading camp from October 1-5, 8:00 a.m. - noon, in the Weinberg gym. Students ages 5-11 are invited to learn jumps, Island School cheers, dances and team bonding activities. Contact the Office to register, or email Rachelle at rachelle@ischool.org. Cost is $115 for the week.
Middle School Robotics
Students are invited to join our team to design, build and drive two robots for this year’s VEX competition, The VEX Sack Attack! Students will meet after school on Thursdays until 4:30 p.m. The big competition is in February and students will have a chance to prepare by competing on Sept. 28 & 29, at Kaua‘i High School, Nov. 2 & 3, in Kapolei on O‘ahu, and on Nov. 9 & 10, VEX Tournament. Two parking stalls in the small lot behind the kitchen were won by IS parents at last year’s Auction. They are clearly marked by signs that they are reserved for their use, only. Please avoid parking in or blocking these stalls. Mahalo for your kokua.
SCUBA Club
Island School Marine Voyagers invite students age 12 and older to get their PADI Open Water Certification. The course consists of meetings after school the week Sept. 24, pool training the weekend of Sept. 29, and ending with two ocean dives on Oct. 1 & 2. To reserve a spot, contact Joe Corbo at 860-965-0395. Cost is $330 for the entire certification course. Students in grades six and nine will take the Stanford Achievement Test this month. Sixth graders will take their test during their homeroom class on September 6, 10, 12, 14, and 18. Freshmen will be tested on Sept. 7, 11, 13, 17, and 19 during their physical education class. All materials will be provided. Students may bring water to drink and should have a book to read if they finish early.
Bus Riders Learning Good Citizenship
Efforts have been made to educate our bus riders as to our expectations of them as they ride the bus to and from school. Specific rules have been created and reviewed with students. These stress the importance of the safety and comfort of all bus riders, as well as how each student can be accountable for a safe and comfortable atmosphere on the bus. Everyone on the bus should take responsibility for the well-being of all.
Car Wash Saturday
The Kauaibots FIRST Robotics Team will host a car wash this Saturday, Sept. 8, at Kukui Grove from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Stop by and support Kauaibots!

Chronicles Third graders met their kindergarten buddies last week and played “Get To Know Me Bingo.” They took buddy photos and enjoyed popsicles on the playground. Today, they met again and worked together on more relationship-building activities. K/3 buddies will get together throughout the year.

SENIOR PROJECTS – Our senior class has been working hard to meet their next deadline for their Senior Projects. Final proposals are due on Wednesday, Sept. 12, by 3:00p.m. Proposals are to be written in paragraph style with correct grammar and punctuation. Five annotated bibliography entries are required for each proposal. Proposals must be signed by the student’s Senior Project adviser and submitted to Mr. Bray or Mr. Springer. Detailed instructions and samples were distributed to students.

FOURTH GRADE – Parents, teachers and students gathered at Kamalani Bridge last Sunday for a BBQ to start the year off with family fun. SEVENTH GRADE – In girls are performing skits on the 6 R’s in their homeroom class. The 6 R’s include the character traits of being: Responsible, Reliable, Respectful, Resilient, Reflective and Responsive. PHYSICAL EDUCATION – 6th & 7th grade students are learning how to make and use hacky sacks. They are being tested on their pushups, sit-ups and other anaerobic exercises. Elementary classes are practicing their physical skills with activities including outside tag games, climbing, balance, plyometric stations and obstacle courses. (Plymetric exercises are designed to practice speed and powerful movements.) YEARBOOK – The staff is hoping parents and students who have great photos of this year’s Island School events will share them for possible use in the yearbook. They are setting up an upload process with Josten’s that will make it easy for anyone to add photos to their collection. Instructions on how to do this will be outlined soon in the Parent Connection.

AUDITIONS: Women in Theatre is holding auditions for the female version of The Odd Couple, Directed by Cass Foster, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 & 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel. One of Neil Simon’s funniest comedies, the familiar Felix and Oscar roles will become Olive and Florence, two mismatched roommates. There are four other smaller roles for women and two hilarious Spanish male roles to be filled.
