(Rain Date Monday 7th) It’s time once again to decorate your golf carts for one of Del Tura’s most fun Holiday traditions. It is amazing to see how creative our residents can be. Last year there were more than 25 carts in the parade and so many people cheering us on from all around the community…It was great to see all the support!

This year will be even better; we have a great committee with more people involved that ever before! So get those creative juices flowing and start thinking about ideas for your cart. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors and have fun at the same time!

We will have PRIZE MONEY for best decorations that night! Start planning early and make sure your batteries are fully charged! The parade will begin at 6:00 pm. Of course we also welcome bicycles, motorcycles, etc., whatever glows…goes! Be sure to come early to see other carts, take pictures and have time to line up at 5:30 and award prizes.

If you need help with hooking up lights, you may call Jim Stenzel 239-826-0524 or Gerry Benjamins 239-322-9866. It is up to you to get the things you need and to do the decorating…that’s 98% of the fun! Don’t wait until the last minute for their help.

A map and approximate times the parade will reach your location is printed in this Tower and will be posted at all the pools. Please note…the parade will end at the corner of Las Palmas Norte and San Gabriel again this year. It’s a long parade and we lose some of the carts by then.

All we need now is to have you join in and have fun! For more information or ideas, call Dusty Laurie at 239-357-4378 or Linda Storma at 239-997-9066. Thanks again for your support. Hope to see you then!

GOLD MEDAL WINNER

DEL TURAN GARNERS SECOND GOLD MEDAL IN VA WRITING COMPETITION

By Steve Banko

Del Tura resident Steve Banko has repeated as the national Gold Medal recipient in the 2020 Veterans Administration Arts Festival.

The Festival solicits entries from all 170 VA hospitals across the country. Winners are selected at each participating facility and the local winners are then judged nationally.

Banko represents the Bay Pines VA in St. Petersburg and earned the 2019 Gold Medal for his essay “Love Must Survive War,” which spoke of the enduring love that combat soldiers feel for each other. His 2020 entry, “Purple Hearts and Purple Minds,” deals with moral injuries inflicted by combat service.

The essay speaks to the wounds to the mind and soul:

“But what happens when the wound isn’t visible, when we are wounded in mind and spirit? The reward is, at best, ignorance and at worst, scorn for being too weak to stand up to the rigors of combat. Afflicted with moral injury soldiers and veterans are left to sort out those injuries for ourselves.

“There are no Purple Hearts for those suffering with purple minds, battered and bruised taken in battle.”

Banko served sixteen months in combat in Vietnam and earned four Purple Hearts, four Bronze Stars, and two Silver Stars. He is the author of a novel about the war, For No Good Reason, and has recently finished his second novel. He has spoken to audiences across the country on issues of war and peace.

WANT TO SERVE AS AN HOA BOARD MEMBER?

Would you like to serve your Community as a Director of your Homeowners Association (HOA)? Now is your chance! There are three Board of Director positions up for election in 2021. Directors are elected to serve a three-year term.

An application to serve as an HOA Director is available from the HOA office or may be downloaded from the Del Tura HOA website. To be eligible for a position on the Board you must be a homeowner of Del Tura and a member of the HOA in good standing. Once you have filled out your application, please mail or deliver the application to the HOA office at 609 Sierra Madre, N. Ft. Myers, 33903.

Please include with your application a brief resume and/or your platform (approximately 150 words). To be considered, applications must be postmarked or delivered to the HOA office By Nancy Davy

I am pleased to report that our Creative Writers Workshop is already going strong. We have been meeting outdoors and socially distancing, and I’d like to assure anyone who may be considering joining us that safety is our priority. As some of our members have not yet returned, we have begun

TO ALL DEL TURA RESIDENTS

As many of you know when the Holidays roll around the Basket Program asks for donations of non-perishable food and or money to help the Needy Families we contribute to.

However, this holiday season we face a very determined virus that is not kind to people our age and we feel that it would be unfair to ask for people by December 31, 2020. Applications postmarked or delivered after December 31, 2020 will not be considered. All applications will be reviewed by the Nominating and Election Committee to assure the candidate’s qualifications comply with the requirements of the HOA By-Laws.

A Candidate Meet-and-Greet will be held at the Clubhouse entrance on January 9, 2021 at which residents and HOA members may become acquainted with the candidates and meet their current Board of Directors.

At the regular January HOA meeting all nominated candidates will be introduced and each will be given 5 minutes to speak. Nominations will be closed upon the adjournment of this meeting.

Should an election be necessary, the list of candidates will be posted on the HOA Clubhouse Bulletin Board following the January meeting. with exercises that would allow us to ‘loosen up’ and just write, without requirements as far as structure and form.

Our first topic is one we can all relate to, as it has affected us all this year. The challenge is to think of the pandemic & how you have been touched by it

The idea is to view the negatives and discover how we all have the power within us to find to go door to door collecting. It is therefore, with a VERY HEAVEY HEART, to inform you that we will be unable to have a Normal Basket Program this Year. We do expect to continue the tradition in 2021.

We realize that of all years this is a year when the needy families need the most help. So, with funds left over from last year we plan to provide 70 Turkeys and 70 Hams to Nation Charities to distribute to families Voting ballots will be mailed during the week of January 18, 2021 and must be received at the HOA office within 15 days of the date of mailing. A numbered return envelope will be provided with each voting ballot and your voting ballot must be returned in numbered envelope provided. Voting ballots which are not returned in the numbered envelope provided or in a manner in which the envelope number is unreadable will be disqualified. The numbering of envelopes is to assure security over the ballots. All voting ballots will be counted, verified, and the results presented at the Annual HOA Board Meeting.

If you have any questions about the election process, feel free to contact the Nominating and Elections Committee Chair, Daniel Cruz, by phone at 239.443.7278 or you may email to
