All praise and thanks be to the Almighty God for his blessing so that we can still be given a chance to take on the role on our society, as well as to contribute in the making of this eMagazine.
Up to now, COVID-19 is still pretty much blooming considering this pandemic situation which is not over yet. As we know, this affects so many sectors worldwide especially health sector which is very concerning since it is required to work extra-ordinarily hard in order to stay “standing on the track”. Moreover, regulation and bureaucracy are getting complicated following the complicated situation itself. Therefore, as a medical student we should be aware of taking a real step and a real action. Not only becoming observer, but also being an executor. This mindset should be kept even after this pandemic is over, to duplicate, and making this mindset as a new habit, so that a “perfect” medical students’ terminology isn’t only a kind of motivation word alone, yet it becomes a reality.
Indonesian Medical Students Executive Boards’ Association (IMSEBA) as an organization that collects 89 medical institutions across Indonesia tries to provide a platform for medical students to take part on the problems in hand. Hence, eMagazine comes as a platform for us to speak louder based on our fellowship aspects. We believe that each of us has the same opportunity to speak their voice, in the hope that this project can be a new face for IMSEBA and Indonesian medical students. Eventually, all those documented voices are expected to be a prove that Indonesian medical students will go further to be a “perfect” doctor, and taking part on improving the public health towards Indonesia Emas (golden generation) in 2045.

A FLASHBACK to the

introduction
In early August 2021, Doctor Richard Lee's name rose to popularity after getting arrested by the police at his residence in Palembang, South Sumatra, following a violation of the law on electronic information and transaction. (Bustomi, Dokter Richard Lee Jadi Tersangka dan Ditahan, 2021) Before this, an actress named Kartika Putri accused the doctor of defamation because the doctor reviewed a whitening cream endorsed by the actress in a YouTube video and claimed that the product contained mercury and hydroquinone that can be dangerous for the skin. (Dewi, 2021)
a closer look to the profile dr. ichard Lee
Doctor Richard Lee is an Indonesian doctor who specializes in aesthetics. As an influencer, he is well known for his educational skincare content and product reviews on his YouTube channel. In 2009, he began his career as a general practitioner in Sinarmas Group in Palembang, South Sumatra, and eventually became a director until 2014. (Abelta, 2021) The doctor established a beauty clinic, Klinik Athena, in Palembang with his wife, Doctor Reni Effendi. He now works as a mentor in the clinic. (Makmum, 2020)
Kartika Putri
Kartika Putri is an Indonesian actress and presenter. She began her career in entertainment as a news anchor especially sports news. As an actress, she has starred in several Indonesian movies and soap operas since 2008. (IMDb, n.d.) She often does product endorsements such as skin care products on her social media. Kartika stated that she is having a partnership with Helwa Beautycare on Instagram. (Oktaviani, 2021)
the chronology of the case
August 2020 - January 2021
The case began in August 2020 when Doctor Richard Lee uploaded a video review of the Helwa BeautyCare product. According to the laboratory results, the product contained mercury hydroquinone. In January 2021, he uploaded a sequel for the previous review. The product contained 5.7% hydroquinone which exceeds the safety limit at 2%. The brand ambassador of the product, Kartika Putri, denied the claims in a video response on her YouTube channel. After that, she, accompanied by her lawyer, invited the doctor to meet. Unfortunately, there was no accomplishment met. Kartika gave two subpoenas against Doctor Richard that ended up in a YouTube apology video by the doctor.
February 2021
Kartika Putri reported Doctor Richard to the police on charges of defamation. On Thursday (04/02), he came to the police station and underwent a 4-hour examination. On Sunday (07/02), 41,254 people signed a petition to support the doctor. On the day after (08/02), Richard Lee said he would no longer review skincare creams after arguing with Kartika Putri.
April 2021
Kartika Putri and Doctor Richard Lee were supposed to meet for mediation on Wednesday (14/04). However, because Kartika just came back from Yaman, the doctor refused to meet. He suggested that she should isolate herself at home. On her social media, Kartika apologized to netizens for showing inappropriate behavior. In the month of Ramadan, she said she would no longer discuss the defamation case.
August 2021
On Wednesday morning (11/08), the police suddenly arrested Doctor Richard Lee at his residence. The doctor called his lawyer and told him that the police wanted to confiscate his phone. At a press conference, his lawyer reported that the police arrested the doctor as a suspect. However, they did not notify the lawyer earlier on of the update of his client's status. A TikTok video about the arrest went viral and blew up the controversy. The public feels that the police's arrest procedure was unnecessarily rough. On the other hand, Doctor Richard is already well known for his blunt, critical review of skincare products. Therefore, most people side with the doctor and condemn Kartika for taking the problem to the legal route. (Twitter, 2021)
Arguments from Different Sides The Police
The police charged Doctor Richard Lee with tampering with evidence. On 6 August 2021, the doctor posted a return announcement on his confiscated Instagram account. Later, the police discovered that the post was already gone. Therefore, the police arrested the doctor as a suspect due to illegal access to his social media account. (Bustomi, 2021) The police also claimed that they conducted the arrest accordingly. There was already a warrant of arrest. Moreover, the police stated that the doctor had refused to cooperate at first. Therefore, the police felt that it justified the use of force when arresting Doctor Richard. (Noviandi & Ismail, 2021) Doctor Richard Lee, through his lawyer, argued that he did not tamper with the evidence. He explained that he and his content team did post something on Facebook, not Instagram. However, the post automatically got shared on Instagram too. Hence, Doctor Richard is confident that he is not guilty. (Rassat, 2021)
Furthermore, he claimed that all of his reviews are honest and based on laboratory tests. Doctor Richard emphasized that his purpose is solely to educate the people about the dangers behind low-quality skincare products. Therefore, he would not retract his opinion about the whitening cream. The doctor stated that he is confident with his lawyer. (Nurfitriani, 2021)
Kartika Putri
In her video response on YouTube, she invited the owner of Helwa BeautyCare. Kartika expressed that the doctor was rude when reviewing the whitening cream he endorsed. Kartika and the owner refuted the bad review that the doctor gave as they suspected that the product in question was fake. In conclusion, Kartika and the owner suggested that the doctor should be more careful in his reviews. (Putri, 2020)
Aftermath
Doctors Should Be More Careful on Reviewing Brands (icardo, Penangkapan ichard Lee Berpotensi Bikin Dokter Lain Takut Beri Edukasi, 2021)
The legal case that happened to Doctor Richard Lee had a psychological impact on other doctors. Many doctors became wary of getting arrested. Therefore, some of them declared to stop creating educational content, like Doctor Ferdiriva. He is a well-known opthalmologist who likes to share his knowledge on eye health through social media, such as TikTok videos. Another aesthetic doctor, Doctor Haekal Anshari, regretted that the police acted excessively in the arrest process. After all, what Doctor Richard said in his content was solely for education related to the harmful ingredients in skincare products. However, Doctor Haekal admitted that Doctor Richard was vulgar in his review. He suggested that we should avoid name-dropping products and always ensure scientific proof when reviewing any products. The Chairman of the Honorary Council of Medical Ethics (MKEK) of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), Doctor Pukovisa, stated that we need to appreciate every effort to educate the people on health problems. Nevertheless, he recommended that doctors should actively communicate with IDI to prevent legal consequences of their content.
Further Evaluation on Defamation Article of Electronics Information and Transaction (ITE) Law is Needed (icardo, 2021)
The civil society coalition said there were several problematic articles in the ITE Law. One of them is the third paragraph of the 27th article, in conjunction with the third paragraph of the 45th article. (Koalisi Masyarakat Sipil, 2021) The third paragraph of the 27th article: Any person who knowingly and without rights distributes and-or transmits and-or makes electronic information and electronic documents containing insults and-or defamation accessible (DPR dan Presiden, 2008) The third paragraph of the 45th article: Any person who intentionally and without rights distributes and-or transmits and-or makes accessible Electronic Information and-or Electronic Documents containing insults and-or defamation as referred to in Article 27 paragraph (3) shall be subject to imprisonment for a maximum of 4 (four) years and or a maximum fine of Rp750,000,000.00 (seven hundred and fifty million rupiahs) (DPR dan Presiden, 2008) The ITE Law has evolved to become a revenge instrument for more powerful groups or individuals to oppress the weaker ones. There is a high risk of people recklessly using the articles to attack individual content and journalism products. The use of this article does not provide legal certainty. It is because the application, from the procedures of investigation to mediation, is flexible. Unlike the ITE Law, The Criminal Code discusses insult in a separate chapter and a more specific manner. An insult could be blasphemy, written blasphemy, slander, minor insults, false complaints, and slanderous act. The Law of ITE, meanwhile, lacks such categorization and became problematic. Therefore, the law of ITE needs to be revised to prevent further legal chaos.
Program and Endorsment Cancellation
The actress Kartika Putri revealed that her problems with Doctor Richard Lee hurt her work. Every product and program offers got canceled. She calculated that 90% of her endorsement business collapsed. Even worse than that, her family became a target of bullying. She has received various kinds of verbal abuse, including profanity and death threats to her children. Nevertheless, she is still optimistic that her fortune will someday return. However, Kartika is still bitter about his clash with Doctor Richard and wishes for a more relieving settlement.
conclusion In this era, it is easy for doctors to educate the masses. The way information spreads from person to person has never been this smooth. People have been more concerned about health. They trust doctors; hence, they trust science. However, doctors still need more legal protection in raising awareness about the danger in some commercial products. It is no secret that such products receive strong support from big companies who would like to maintain a good image for their brand. It does not necessarily mean that they will improve the safety of their products because it could be expensive. So they take a shortcut and challenge the critiques from doctors.
When doing a product review, most doctors are vulnerable to companies pressing charges. Right now is when the fellowship of doctors plays its part. Medical organizations such as IDI fulfill the promise of ensuring the safety of fellow doctors. Besides aiding doctors in legal processes, medical organizations have to advocate for the fulfillment of their rights by either supporting ratification of law that protects our civil rights or demanding a revision for problematic law, such as the Law of ITE. It does not mean that doctors can be vulgar when raising awareness about dangerous commercial products. We must ease our struggle against legal issues by adhering to more appropriate procedures. For example, it is preferable to report a problematic product to BPOM rather than exposing them on social media for views. From the way this controversy between Doctor Richard Lee and Kartika Putri progress, we cannot blame the people for hailing the doctor as the protagonist while shunning the celebrity as if she is the antagonist. However, we should never allow verbal abuse, especially to the irrelevant family. There is no value and benefit in doing so. Precisely, it is what makes it harder for our fellow doctors to fight for legal safety. Do not stop from keeping things civil. Remember our purpose as a fellow medical society: to ensure well-being in all aspects of every medical practitioner.
It’s our birthday
In the post-1966 era, the demand for professionalism from the community dominated by technocrats increased. At that time, this situation encouraged medical students to establish a forum that could unite their aspirations in order to increase the professionalism of medical students. After conducting consolidation between medical faculties, the Indonesial Medical Student Association was formed through the Cimacan Declaration in 1969 with a format of personal membership. To restore the direction of student organization policies that were previously politicized, the Directorate General of Higher Education in Indonesia issued the concept of Campus Policy Normalization. One of the embodiments of this concept was the establichment of the Same Student Association. This concept caused a lot of controversy among students. The government tried to approach the Medical Faculty Student Senate with an aim to support the implementation of the Campus Policy Normalization concept by forming the Indonesia Medical Students Executive Boards Association. After having further discussion, IMSEBA was finally declared on September 20 , 1981. And here we are now after 40 years. Happy birthday to us, Indonesian medical students!

Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University
Hello there, fellas!
In this issue, we'll share Affan Rayhan's group from the Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, Student Community Service story on the socialization against the use of double masks. Let's get started!
What motivates you to undertake Student Community Service (SCS) by promoting the use of double masks on Small and Medium Enterprise (SME)?
We chose this project since the Ministry of Health recently recommended wearing double masks to help prevent the spread of the Corona virus, and mutations become more common these days. Several research findings show that using a double mask (medical mask covered by a cloth mask) increases the effectiveness of preventing the Corona virus as compared to just using medical masks or cloth masks alone.
Could it be true that some people still don't use double masks?
According to our findings after conducting socializing with many Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), more than half of SME do not use double masks.
What types of media are used to socialize? How can you explain and persuade them of the importance of wearing two masks? We used poster media for socialization, we went to 5 SMEs and each SME received 10 sets of double masks. We present an illustration (on the poster) comparing the effectiveness of various masks (double masks, medical masks only, cloth masks only) in minimizing viral transmission to emphasize the necessity of utilizing double masks.
What may be the response/feedback from SMEs regarding the socialization that has been provided? All of the SMEs we met agreed and benefited from our socializing. We also offer SME workers with two mask sets so that they can be used.
Were there any hurdles on the way to completing the action, from planning to execution? We are grateful that no significant challenges occurred during the activity. The stage begins with preparation, a meeting with group members and the field supervisor, followed by sanitary and aseptic packaging of medical masks and cloth masks, and finally transportation and socializing to SMEs run smoothly and in accordance with our rundown.
What impressions and messages are obtained from the activities carried out?
Impression: We are pleased to be able to assist the community particularly pushing for using double masks in the community based on government advise. Message: I hope this activity will inspire other medical students.
