The Automobile Association of Tanzania were awarded a grant to implement a comprehensive training and communications programme to improve rally safety. The programme, to be delivered in the local language of Kiswahili, would target stakeholders including police and traffic authorities, village councils, tribal chiefs and headmen, and rally safety marshals. The aim would be to improve their knowledge of rally events and help them communicate safety messages to spectators and the general public. AAT chose Motorsport South Africa to deliver the programme via a series of pilot sessions which would then be followed up with refresher training to ensure knowledge would be maintained and to include new participants.
