➢ The beaches: the hotel boasts two magnificent beach clubs at Monte Cogoni and Dune di Campana Beach. These beaches have been named “Italy’s most beautiful beaches” for two consecutive years by Legambiente, Italy’s most renowned environmental association. Ultra-fine golden sand is shaped into dunes which create a unique landscape facing a crystalline sea with a gradually sloping bed. Chia is a protected habitat to wildlife and guests alike who become part of one whole ecosystem to be preserved and sustained. ➢ The lagoon: The lagoon is a wet and marshy area located immediately behind the coast’s sandy dunes. This is the ideal habitat for countless species of wading birds, a favourable environment for breeding and nesting. Here live the famous and rare pink flamingos or “sa genti arrubbia” (red people) in Sardinian language. Their pinkish white plumage is determined by the small pink crustaceans they feed on, their wings are covered in red and their beak is pink with a black point. ➢ The Mediterranean scrub: the southern coast is one of the hottest and driest areas of Sardinia. The type of vegetation which characterizes this specific area is the Mediterranean spot, with its low shrubs and bushes, diffusing a strong scent of herbs. The typical plants that can be found along the coast are: myrtle, gyneprus, local broom, kermes oak, and many wild herbs, such as different types of mint, rosemary, thyme.
➢ The ancient city of Bithia: an archaeological site that takes us back to around the 7th century BC. Here you can find: the necropolis, emerged at the western side of the promontory of the tower of Chia, the temple of Bes, located in the ancient isthmus connecting the promontory to the land, the statue of the god Bes, one of the most significant finds of the pre Punic period and the tofet, an open air Phoenician-Punic sanctuary partially found on the Su Cardolinu island, that seems to point towards east, perhaps to indicate the origin of the civilization that passed over these lands. ➢ The Shardana population: this population arrived in Sardinia before the Phoenicians, the Punic and the Romans. They have been known as the rebels coming from the great green (the Mediterranean sea). Historical findings witness that the Shardana arrived in Egypt during the realm of Ramses III and as valiant fighters some were chosen to become the guards of the emperor. The assumptions on their Sardinian provenance, come from the similarity in the war clothing, with big triangular swards, short skirts and horned helmets. The hotel’s top suite accommodation is named after this fascinating population: Shardana Presidential Suite with Sea View. ➢ Tholos building technique: it is the ancient “nuraghe” building technique which gives them their typical dome-like shape. Nuraghe are massive stone buildings -perhaps monumental tombs, or furnaces for smelting weapons, or lookout towers- typical of Sardinian ancient population. One of the hotel’s top suite accommodation is named after this ancient building technique: Tholos Deluxe Suite with Sea View.
➢ Capo Spartivento lighthouse: built in 1854 by the Italian Navy, the Capo Spartivento Lighthouse was one of the twenty lighthouses desired by King Vittorio Emanuele of Savoia, whose initials are still in the wrought-iron frieze entrance. Machine-gunned by American planes during World War II, the building underwent its first and only restoration at the end of the conflict. It hosted the Lighthouse family until the 1980s, when automation swept away the guard switches. Fallen into oblivion for over 30 years, in 2006 begins the second life of the Faro. Today it is the first and only lighthouse in Italy to be welcomed, rewarded by the leaders of the Italian Navy as an example of military architecture retrieval. ➢ The Tower of Chia: it is located on a promontory, that in the past was Bithia’s acropolis, a Phoenician-Punic town of the 1st millennium BC. It can be reached by walk through a short path and it shows when Sardinia was under Spanish rule. The Spanish tower was born in 1578, to preserve the estuary of Rio’s Chia, which was a water supply source for pirates. It is made of limestone; it has a height of 13 meters and a diameter of 10 meters. The Tower is always visible from all different areas of the hotel and is an iconic point of reference for the guests wherever they are.
➢ Interior design concept: the design concept by Studio Marco Piva Milan took inspiration from the surrounding nature, in particular from the delicate sea breeze and the particular glimmering light which characterize the particular location of the hotel, on top of a hill overlooking the lagoon and the coast. An international approach to high-end hospitality led the architects to create a contemporary design with a deep sense of place, like the extensive use of “Biancone di Orosei” marble, a calcareous rock extracted and processed in Sardinia which stands out for its distinguishing colors due to the inclusions of fossils of shells, corals and other marine organisms. Particular attention has been put into landscaping, highlighting the sense of arrival and boosting the Mediterranean scrub embracing the hotel. ➢ Pretziada: the hotel’s main lobby has been designed to combine contemporary design to the sense of place. Here guests can enjoy a gallery of unique artistic pieces made by local artisans who cooperate with the renowned creative studio Pretziada (“precious” in Sardinian language) which promotes Sardinian heritage and identity through a collection of unique handicrafts. The extremely curated selection of artworks offer guests a full immersion into Sardinian tradition, where each single piece has a specific Sardinian name and a traditional story behind it. Guests are then invited to experience a real journey into local culture which will inspire them to discover more.
