The boiler plant was built on a green site, a little in retreat from the reception area. Its original architecture, a cross between modernism and classicism, intrigues visitors

The fuel is delivered by the skipload directly into the underground silo. The lid of the silo is opened by hydraulic push rods. The silo, buried at a depth of three metres, consists of a concrete enclosure of 90 m3 with two scrapers in the form of ladders at the bottom. The volume of the silo is enough for 15 to 20 days’ fuel at full capacity during the winter. The scrapers are mounted on push rods. They take the fuel to the conveyor which feeds the boiler. Thus, 300 tonnes of wood chips per year are used for the 350 metre long heating network linking a restaurant, the reception area, and soon a hotel.

and incites them to find out more about wood as a source of energy. The message the decision-makers of the boiler wish to portray is the feasibility of such installations. The boiler was installed in 1998.
The technology chosen for this type of fuel is a Schmid boiler underfeeder screw with an output of 300 kW. The boiler furnace consists of fixed grates. The combustion is constantly controlled and regulated automatically. The boiler will take fuel with a moisture content of between 20 and 45 % of gross weight. The dust is removed from the smoke by a multi cyclone filter and the ashes are cleared automatically via a worm screw to a special container. The ashes are later used as fertilizer for the green areas of the layby. The only human

The fuel used is shredded wood. Bits of wood are collected in the wood products industries of the region (wood turners, toys, box factories) and are turned into wood chips on a grinding platform.
