MY LIBRARY newsletter
We came to America:
Celebrating our Diversity
ONE BOOK. ONE COMMUNITY.
Director's Column In May, the library had the opportunity to thank the 76 adult and 30 teen volunteers who contributed their efforts to making our library better in 2014. It is clear that the library has always enjoyed tremendous community engagement and we are grateful for all the ways you show your support, whether it is through volunteering, working the booksales, making a donation or offering suggestions for programs and services. Over the past several months, we worked with our library supporters to find ways to more effectively grow our library efforts. The culmination of that work resulted in the successful merger of our three support groups: Children’s Advocates, Friends of the Library and the Foundation for the Indian Trails Library. The new group will operate under the name Foundation for the Indian Trails Public Library District and will continue to be a tremendous asset in helping the library follow its mission of educating, entertaining and empowering our members. The library is looking forward to this next chapter in its rich history, and I would like to acknowledge the community members who have volunteered to lead the new foundation: Ida Butler, Stephanie Demb, Gene Looft, Michael Putz, Richard Rosen, Tami Trudell and Terry Steilen. There are always opportunities for community members to get involved and volunteer their talents at the library. If you would like more information on how you could get involved, contact Susan Dennison at 847.279.2222 or sdennison@itpld.org.

Bruce D. Matthews Elected to the Library Board of Trustees; Gene Looft Retires from Board
On May 20, library trustees welcomed newly elected trustee Bruce Matthews. Bruce is a resident of Buffalo Grove, an engineering consultant and part owner of an Engineering and Surveying Firm in Kankakee. The library also bid goodbye to longtime trustee, Gene Looft, who is retiring after serving on the board for 10 years. At his last meeting, Gene praised the staff and the solid financial ground the library has built over the past years. Gene has graciously volunteered to sit on the new foundation board as it gets started. We appreciate his experience and insight as we forge ahead. Wally Salganik, library board president, presents retiring trustee Gene Looft, with a gift.
The Indian Trails Public Library District Board of Trustees meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:15 pm. The meeting is open to the public.
