MY LIBRARY newsletter
Director's Column A little over a year ago the library began working with its three support groups - the Foundation for the Indian Trails Library, the Friends and the Children’s Advocates - to consolidate into one group. The three groups have provided outstanding support for the library but after many years, it was time to merge to maximize each of their strengths. In July of this year, our new Foundation for the Indian Trails Library held its first meeting. It was a perfect melding of new and experienced library supporters. There are nine members currently serving on the board of directors of the foundation – you can learn more about them in the story on the next page. They are our neighbors and friends, and we are grateful for their willingness to volunteer their time to help the library further its mission in the community. On the heels of the launch of our new foundation is our upcoming major renovation – a project the board and staff have been preparing for many years. After extensive planning and input from the community, we are excited for what this renovation will bring to our members. You can find up-to-date renovation information on our website, just click on the “Building New Beginnings” logo. This is a time for new beginnings at the library. The staff and board of the Indian Trails Library are steadfast in their mission to continue to provide exceptional service, programs and materials to you.

Feature Story
MEET THE FOUNDATION BOARD
for the Indian Trails Public Library District
We asked five questions of our board members and in the next coming issues of the newsletter, we’ll be sharing their answers with you.
Q. Why did you decide to get involved with the foundation?
Q. What book would you recommend to a friend?
Rose Johnson: I was already involved with Children’s Advocates for over 10 years. I felt this group would be a great way to keep volunteering in the community after my retirement.
Rose: "Go Set a Watchman" by Harper Lee, and James Michener’s books.
Rich Rosen: The library provides an important service to our community...most important to me is children’s programming and literacy. Tami Trudell: I wanted to become involved with the library for some time now. This seemed like a way to get in on the ground floor of a great opportunity.
Q. What do you hope to accomplish on the foundation? Rose: I hope to keep the library as the center of the community and the place to come for research help or just to find a great read.
Rich: "Happiness is a Serious Problem" by Dennis Prager, and almost anything by Charles Dickens. Tami: "We Are Called to Rise" by Laura McBride.
Q. In a perfect world, a library… Rose: … would have all the electronic devices and access to Internet and all that it has to offer, but it also would have a physical reference collection and books. Rich: … would be used by most, if not all, the people in the community it serves. Tami: … would be used and enjoyed by everyone in the community.
The library is grateful to the previous Foundation, Friends and Children’s Advocates volunteers for their support and dedication to the library. Foundation for the Library Michael Berger Steve Harris Gene Looft Tamiye Meehan Patty Murray Don Roalkvam Leon Shure Doris Wagner Friends of the Library Dianne Dall Marlene Falk Sue Hart Joe Jordan Susan Klister Jackie Sell Judy Sommerfeld Ken Steffens Pat Tyson
Children’s Advocates Sheila Anderson Marcia Becker Jane Born Stephanie Demb Allison Leist Don Johnson Jenny Johnson Darla Stavros Beth Stoken
Rich: I hope we can connect with charitable foundations to financially support the library so we can maintain a viable vibrant public institution. Tami: I want to help the library with fundraising and put the finishing touches on the expansion.
Q. What three words describe you? Rose: Stubborn, honest and friendly. Rich: Family, faith and community. Tami: Thoughtful, deliberate and orderly. Top row: (L to R) Mike Putz, Rich Rosen, Terry Steilen, Gene Looft. Bottom row: (L to R) Rose Johnson, Ida Butler, Tami Trudell, Stephanie Demb. Not pictured: Sheila Anderson
