Summer Reading Program
Renovation Update
On the morning of March 21, starting at 6:30 am, the library began to move to its temporary location, 70 W. Dundee Rd., Buffalo Grove. During the two weeks we were closed, a tremendous amount of work went into packing, labeling and transporting all our collections to the temporary location or to storage. (Visit www.itpld.org/renovation for photos and updates.) We watched with excitement as our library emptied and we took our first tangible steps toward construction kicking off in April. If you haven’t stopped by the temporary location, I hope you will do so soon. Although we will be in a smaller space, we are here to serve you at the level you expect from Indian Trails Library staff.
Reading Garden
I’m excited to announce that the Foundation for the Indian Trails Public Library District has relaunched the "Buy a Brick" program for the Reading Garden. Our new garden will be located on the southwest corner of the library, next to Horizon Park, which is slated for renovation this year. If you’ve been to the main library, you’ve probably walked by the Reading Garden at the northwest corner of the building. Our new garden will be larger and will offer an area for relaxation and contemplation. All bricks from the old garden will be carefully removed, stored and reinstalled in the new garden. Personalized bricks can be ordered online by clicking on "Buy A Brick" at www.itpld.org. Orders can also be placed in person at the temporary library by completing a brick order form. It’s a great way to commemorate an important event or honor a loved one while being part of this exciting time of growth for your library!

Board member, Foundation for the Indian Trails Public Library District Why did you decide to get involved with the Foundation? Gene: After more than a decade as a library trustee, I retired from the board, but still wanted to be a part of the exciting plans that are underway. Joining the Foundation afforded me the opportunity to still be involved and play a role in the expansion and renovation effort, but with a reduced time commitment. What do you hope to accomplish on the Foundation? Gene: I want to help create an organization that can raise additional funds for Indian Trails Library on an ongoing basis, plus spread the awareness and appreciation of the library in our community. What three words describe you? Gene: Helpful, logical and thorough. What book would you recommend to a friend? Gene: I like novels, so any Tom Clancy or John Grisham bestseller. Complete this sentence: In a perfect world a library . . . Gene: would serve its community in an economical and responsive fashion that is enjoyable for both residents and staff.

Many genealogists collect vital records and then stop. This presentation will explore some of the many other resources that should be consulted to turn your genealogy into a family history filled with rich detail. R

Speaker Debra Dudek will give attendees a glimpse into the customs and rituals surrounding death during the Civil War and beyond. Genealogists can thank the Victorians for the 'cult of mourning' which generated an assortment of veterans memorials, mementos and paperwork. Discover how cultural attitudes toward grief can be researched with the help of modern tools. This program also includes new resources for Civil War veteran research. R
