LWAYS SPRINGING INTO ACTION FOR OUR COMMUNITY! Kemp, Ruge & Green Law Group

As a local business owner, it is both a privilege and an expectation to give back to the community that supports me and my firm. Ever since I hung my shingle years ago, I have made sure that charitable donations and sponsorships were integrated into the foundation of my firm just as much as client satisfaction and stellar representation were.

As my firm has grown, so have my contributions to this community. I am delighted to have been able to assist over fifty different non-profits, local schools and outreach programs achieve their financial goals. With that being said, the offer to be the first ever presenting sponsor for the Chasco Fiesta provided a unique opportunity that I could not pass up. Growing up in West Pasco, the Chasco Fiesta was something I looked forward to every year. At the time, I did not quite realize its importance to all of our local charities, but I did realize what a blessing it was to experience such an event with my family and friends. The parades, the music, the food and the introduction to Native American culture were all memories I carry with me to this day.

but on the other hand, having a large corporation with no affiliation to this area sponsor the Chasco Fiesta just felt wrong to me. What the Chasco Fiesta needed was a local business that also had the means to sponsor this great event. Fortunately, through the dedication of myself, my staff and the support of this community, my firm is in a position to facilitate this need. Therefore, it is with great honor, pride and respect that my firm becomes the first ever presenting sponsor of the Chasco Fiesta, and it is a title we pledge to hold for many years to come. Know Your Rights!

As a proud parent, these are memories I hope to pass along to both my children and all the other children in our community, however, I started to worry about one aspect of the Chasco Fiesta: sponsorship. The Chasco Fiesta is the major fundraiser for most of the non-profits and charities in the area, but it is also a symbol of West Pasco. These two factors lead to a sort of conundrum. Generally, only large corporations have the disposable income to sponsor events like these,

LIVING

Thank you for sending out a crew to clean my house last week. Doing my own cleaning was too much of a challenge for me to even try. My energy level has been very low and my IV bag and tubing kept getting in the way. So I was thrilled to have two of your finest clean for me. My bathtub has never been so shiny and my toilet so sparkling! Also, it was great to have my floor mopped and carpets vacuumed since I wasn’t up for that either.

-Thank you so much, Jill P.

Rose Gold is the Wedding Trend Metallics are surprisingly versatile, says New York City eventplanning guru Harriette Rose Katz. “Depending on how and where you bring them into your celebration,” she says, “they can be elegant, whimsical, ethereal or even very natural.” (Think glitzy golds to pop out room decor at a black-tie wedding, copper lanterns at an outdoor reception or on a rustic tablescape.) No matter the venue or theme, designers across the country say rose gold will show up on everything from rings to table linens. Even the food and drink get in on the trend, with shiny blush icings on desserts and rosehued cocktails. One metallic that is on the wane, however, is silver. www.bridalguide.com Modern and vintage in feel, rose gold engagement rings make a distinctive, beautiful choice. A lustrous alloy of gold and copper, rose gold has its roots with the earliest jewelry artisans and has become a wedding trend of 2016.

Hometown STORY

BergHOFF offers the Best in all things Culinary The “Hostess with the Mostess,” Manager Candace Powers

On April 19, 1993, TV Food Network was originally founded, and by November it debuted via cable and satellite across the nation. In just over three decades, it has become one of the most popular television stations enjoyed by male and female viewers, alike. As a result of its popularity, Cooking Channel spun-off from Food Network as, primarily, a more instructional culinary option, thanks to America’s continued obsession with food. Everyone has to eat, and most everyone can not afford to frequent their favorite dining establishments three times a day, seven days a week. We cook for ourselves, our families, and our friends, and often times we find yummy recipes to try on Food Network, Pintrest, and while scrolling our Facebook newsfeeds. But where do we get some of the awesome cookware and gadgets the stars use on their delicious programs? For nearly ten years, residents of Trinity & Odessa have had the privilege of finding the most innovative culinary tools and contemporary diningware, all of exceptional quality and affordable, buy-direct prices, only at BergHoff’s and their US showroom.

Connecticut and Wisconsin. One look at her monthly menu plans for her cooking classes, and the diversity in her talent is evident. It is the spirit of all things culinary that touts BergHOFF’s international acclaim and numerous design and functionality awards for items like their Neo Cookware, Neo Coffee-Espresso, Neo Knife Block, and Zeno Mixing Bowls, and most recently, the Perfect Slice. Are you about to be a June bride? BergHOFF is a wonderful place to register for gifts, considering their extravagant selection for the kitchen – more than 3000 items from which to choose! Whether you are setting up a brand new kitchen as husband and wife, or you are ready to update the cookware you received many years ago, there’s no place in Tampa Bay quite like BergHOFF! They have… • Bakeware • Barware • Cookware & Cutlery • Flatware, Stemware, Porcelain

• Portable Induction Cooktops • Kitchen Tools & so much more!

Our local BergHOFF, conveniently located on SR 54 in Odessa, ships 1000 products each day across North America. A worldwide brand, BergHOFF is in 57 countries across the globe. Since our friends at BergHOFF understand the ever-expanding interest in cooking and the many facets of culinary arts, they host instructional cooking classes on Saturdays, from noon until 2:00 PM. In-house Chef Toni Haynes offers her expertise in a hands-on, fun and informative format, that works perfectly for kitchen novices to professional chefs, and all levels in between!

The next time you are in the neighborhood, Manager Candace Powers cordially invites you to drop-by and peruse the magnificent showroom at BergHOFF. “We like to offer personal service, quality, design, and selection at affordable prices for you, your family, and your friends,” she said.

Chef Toni is originally from South Tampa. She earned her degree in Speech and Drama from Louisiana State University, and has a culinary background spanning 35 years. She has successfully catered premium events in Florida, Colorado, www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com

Opal Rainbow Hair Is the Dreamy Dye Trend You Need to Try By JESSICA CRUEL | www.popsugar.com

What happens when you mix the gray hair trend with the rainbow color everyone’s been craving this Summer? Opal. Yes, the new trend in hair color pulls inspiration from the sea (which makes sense because #mermaidhair is a thing). An opal stone is a mix of pearl and iridescent pinks, blues, and purples. So of course, this paint job created by Aura Friedman at Sally Hershberger features metallics and pastels. First, Aura lightens the hair to a pearl hue (the shade just before you reach gray). “It could either be prelightened to a platinum or pale yellow or it can be painted with heavy highlights and prelightened that way,” she explained. Then after toner is applied, layers of color are added. The result is a washed-out version of the sand art look. “For me an opal or any iridescent color has these nuances of color with very subtle hints of the greens and the pinks,” she said. “It’s not a ‘come and slap you in the face’ kind of color.”

16 Spring Issue 2016

Aura came up with the idea for opal years ago when she was experimenting with pastel colors. “Opal is my birth stone, and it’s one of my favorite stones, so I started doing it on wigs a long time ago,” she said. “I actually did one for Lady Gaga, but we ended up not using it.” The key to getting this look is layering. The colors should look different from all angles — like an iridescent gemstone. “[It] is not just one color. It’s different colors from root to end and those different colors sit on top of other colors,” she explained. “It reflects a different color every which way you look at it. If you tilt it one way you see more of the pink, and if you tilt it another way you see more of the green.” There are many different kinds of variations on the iridescent hair trend, from mother of pearl to oil slick. For the daring ladies who already went gray, it’s an easy way to refresh your silver strands once they’ve gone yellow. Photo source: facebook.com/Glitter-Girls-Have-More-Fun

HERO

Brian Anderson of Veterans Alternative Providing a Safe Haven for Our Veterans “No more nightmares; flashbacks don’t paralyze me anymore. I have a new confidence that I can have normal emotions and not lose control.” - Gary Meyer Be it Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, the United States military is the best in the world! But even the best of the best don’t return from their tours of duty unscathed. Many suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, after combat. Others have suffered brutal physical injuries, and they and their families bear the psychological and emotional strain because of it. Were you aware that as many as 22 Veterans in the United States commit suicide every day? Thanks to warrior, Brian Anderson, Veterans now have a place they can go to decompress, work-out, and receive support through evidenced-based therapies to help them cope with the aftermath of combat and relinquish PTSD for PTG, or Post Traumatic Growth. This saving grace is called Veteran’s Alternative, and it is a free community support system for combat Veterans and their families. Brian said, “Life led me here. I saw a need. So, I try to provide that safe haven for our warriors, because it’s not there. We can focus on some of those challenges we face, and show how we can overcome and even excel past those obstacles.”

By Debra Taylor Tee

Brian dedicated more than a decade to active military service, including multiple deployments as a Green Beret and a photojournalist. He was, deservedly, awarded three Bronze Stars, one with a Medal of Valor for his courageous service. Once his active military career ended, Brian earned a Bachelor’s degree from Saint Leo University in social work. He and his team, Janel Norton, Alison Voisin and Jeannine Timmins, have created a haven of refuge & healing through Veterans Alternative. Brian and his team use Accelerated Resolution Therapy [ART], as a means of reprogramming the way traumatic events are stored in the mind, they no longer trigger strong emotions or physical reactions. Integrated Restorative Therapy, or iRest, techniques are a meditative form of yoga. Instead of a series of yoga postures, a ten-step protocol, intended to help release combat- and MST-related triggers in Veterans and their family members, is applied in a serene, comfortable environment. Brian truly understands what these levels of support can do for combat Veterans. He suffered similar psychological repercussions following his combat duty in Afghanistan, as he was transitioning back into life as a civilian. He explained, “I was driving down the road, and I saw my friend driving in the car next to me. He was killed September 29, 2010. I had images of bullets going through my head. Rockin’ at the Rookery

Spring has sprung and with our mild winter, many of us have already visited our local nurseries. Well there is one nursery you may have overlooked. While there are plenty of plants, it is not that kind of nursery. This little known nursery is in the heart of Port Richey right off Embassy Blvd just before U.S. 19. The difference is, this nursery does not sell plants. It is filled with Wood Storks, Great Egrets and a few other water birds that enjoy the safety of raising their young in large groups. These groups of nesting birds are known as rookeries. The rookery provides a protected breeding and nesting area for the birds. It’s close proximity to both fresh and brackish water sources as well as the Gulf of Mexico makes it convenient for these water birds to feed their young. Wood Storks begin breeding in Florida during the dry season that provides the best fishing. A pair of nesting Wood Storks with two fledglings can consume over 400 pounds of fish, that’s a lot of trips to the fishing grounds. They can lay up to five eggs which both the male and female will take turns incubating. The young will start hatching in about a month. These tiny hatchlings grow quickly and, like their parents, are quite large. You can enjoy watching the family raise their young before they fledge which is usually two months after hatching. Wood Storks are endangered throughout the United States due to the loss of optimal feeding habitats. Great Egrets are a sight to see when dressed in their breeding plumage for which they were hunted to near extinction in the late nineteenth century. Masked with lime green facial skin they preform elaborate mating dances. Like their neighbors, they too lay up to five light blue eggs which hatch in about four weeks. The Great Egret chicks are very aggressive toward one another. Known as “Siblicide,” larger chicks often kill their smaller siblings. They will leave the nest closer to six weeks of hatching. If you go, please be respectful of the common area and do not disturb the birds. The fenced, protected Rookery is just off Shoppers Way Lane. http://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/imperiled/profiles/birds/ wood-stork https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/great-egret Doreen Damm Passion grows in the garden, Love grows in the heart. Local Cancer Survivor Fights Back through The Relay For Life movement is the Relay For Life Movement world’s largest fundraising event to

More than 1.6 million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year, according to the American Cancer Society. For Sharon Tanner of Trinity, FL, that statistic became personal when she heard the words “you have cancer.” Sharon Tanner was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2012. The following year she attended her first Relay For Life event and knew that she had to give back to the American Cancer Society, so that her granddaughters and other women and men would never hear the words, “you have breast cancer” again. Sharon says, “my work with Relay For Life of Trinity is so rewarding! It is an honor to be friends and coworkers with such dedicated people. Together we can all make a difference in the fight against cancer!”

The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2014, there were nearly 14.5 million cancer survivors in the US. Thousands of cancer survivors participate in American Cancer Society Relay For Life events each year. They, and their caregivers, take the first lap of every event as community members cheer them on and celebrate the progress that has been made against cancer. The Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. Relay For Life events are community gatherings where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Teams raise funds in the months leading up to the event.

5 Ways to Deep Clean the Cruddiest Things in Your Home Without Breaking Into a Sweat By Jamie Wiebe 1. Break Out the Drill on Your Bathtub Cleaning a grungy tub can be back-breaking work. But here’s a genius idea that’ll save you time and sweat: Use your drill. Simply attach a foam ball polishing attachment, and use it to do the scrubbing for you. Look in the automotive section for the attachment, which is made specially for tackling grime without scratching surfaces. 2. Soak Stove Burners in Ammonia Your stove burners take the bulk of the greasy, gunky mess during cooking, so do them a favor and give them a good cleaning. Don’t worry: No scrubbing involved. To clear the crud, combine your stove burners and 1/4 cup ammonia in a plastic bag and let sit overnight. They should come clean with a light sponge the next day. 3. Iron Out Bad Carpet Stains Don’t spend an hour scrubbing out that nasty, set-in carpet splotch. Iron it out instead. Spritz a solution of one part vinegar, three parts water on the stain, and lay a clean cotton cloth on top. Turn your iron to its highest steam setting and run it over the stain for about 10 seconds to transfer the stain to the cloth and off your carpet.

www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com

4. Tie a Bag of Vinegar Around Your Showerhead Mineral build-up on your showerhead can cause low water pressure and wonky water streams. But it’s easy to clean them without removing them. Using a rubber band, attach a bag of vinegar to your showerhead, making sure all the holes are submerged in the vinegar, and soak it overnight. Voilà. Good as new. 5. Sprinkle Your Mattress With Baking Soda Your mattress needs a springtime refresh, too, but you sure can’t toss it in the washing machine. Cleaning gurus recommend dragging your mattress outside, beating it, and letting the sunshine help freshen it, then dragging it back in. But who has the muscle for that? This is much easier: Use a kitchen strainer to sprinkle baking soda over its surface and let sit for an hour or longer. Longer is better. Then use your vacuum’s upholstery attachment to suck up the odorabsorbing soda. Read more: www.houselogic.com/home-advice/greencleaning/how-to-deep-clean-your-house

Sister Cities Share Climate and Culture on Two Continents New Port Richey, FL, USA & Cavalaire-sur-Mer, Cote D’Azur, France

If you’ve ever had a sister, you know that it is one truly special relationship. One of the definitions Merriam-Webster provides for the word sister is “one that is closely similar to or associated with another.” Such is the case for New Port Richey and her sister city, Cavalaire-sur-Mer, in a Provence of southern France, on the French Riviera, or Cote D’Azur. Historically, cities are proclaimed sisters when they are found to be similar in naturally, culturally and geographically, even though they are on different continents. Both, New Port Richey and Cavalaire-sur-Mer, are coastal communities, each located on bodies of water: New Port Richey on the Gulf of Mexico, and Cavalaire-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean Sea. These two amazing cities share a love of arts, history and culture, as well as, for their residents and visitors.

rich with artifacts from the Gallo Roman occupation, and archaeological excavations revealing evidence of several sites dating from the first century BC. During WWII, it was the site of the beach landing in Operation Dragoon, during the allied invasion of southern France. Cavalaire-sur-Mer, a secret seaside known for its water sports, is a lovely little town, with beautiful beaches and an expansive port, all with majestic mountains as an incredible backdrop. Arlette said, “There are fascinating corners of enchantment everywhere. Like New Port Richey, it is set by the water, offers a mild climate and sunny days just about all year long. There are so many similarities to tie the two cities!” The city of New Port Richey Cultural Affairs Committee has revived the sister city program that started more than two decades ago. “The city connections and cultural link, as well as monument signs at either end of main street, proclaim the sister city relationship,” Arlette explained.

In 1995, Cavalaire-sur-Mer became New Port Richey’s sister city. Cavalaire Square, located at 5733 Missouri Ave, in downtown New Port Richey, was named for their beautiful sister city. Inspired by their very special relationship, it is home of arts and cultural performances. Cavalaire-sur-Mer native, Arlette Forlano, and her husband Armando, currently reside in New Port Richey. They visited their former home while vacationing in France. They found an ancient Phoenician colony, steeped in history,

Debbie Dawson, RE/MAX Champions

YourHomeTampaBay.com

I’m Buying a New Construction Home, Do I Need a Realtor®? The Answer is YES! Call Debbie Dawson, Realtor® to guide you. Buying a new home is exciting. You get to build your dream from the ground up, choosing your lot, your model, interior finishes and upgrades. But like any home purchase, buying new construction is serious business, an expensive transaction with many financial implications. That’s why it’s a good idea to obtain representation from a Realtor® when considering a new home purchase. Here’s why: Builder sales reps represent the builder. Often builders have their own agents on site to answer questions, assist people who walk in, and ultimately help with a purchase. Builder reps provide a valuable service: They can explain differences between models and floor plans and share information about financing options, upgrades and specials. But it’s important to remember that builder reps represent the builder, as they are contractually obligated to do. “Realtors® are trusted resources for real estate information and can help home buyers navigate the increasingly complex home-buying process,” said National Association of Realtors® President Gary Thomas. “The buyer agency agreement ensures the buyer that his or her Realtor® will represent the interests of the buyer alone and not the seller.” Fiduciary responsibility. One of the most important considerations for any buyer is fiduciary responsibility. When you retain the services of a Realtor®, their responsibility is to you. That means you have an expert who is looking out for your best financial interests, an expert

www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com

who’s contractually obligated to protect you. A Realtor® can help you navigate the new-construction contract; help you understand how specific clauses, riders and upgrade options affect you; and make sure you know what you need to before you sign on the dotted line. Negotiating a better deal. Finding the right model and picking your upgrades is the fun part. Once you’re ready to sign the contract, a Realtor® can work on your behalf to negotiate the terms, from upgrade options to financing and closing costs. In addition, a Realtor® can present other options for financing or might be able to work with the builder’s lender directly to get you a better rate for your mortgage. Shepherding your new home to closing. Signing a contract with a builder is just the beginning. You must also line up financing, work with title companies and attend numerous inspections throughout the construction. A Realtor® can manage that process and can accompany you on inspections to ensure you’re not missing anything at each construction milestone. By AlexCortez | www.realtor.com

Always Be Prepared for Spring Storms As many of you know, I am a proud native of the great Commonwealth of Kentucky! My Old Kentucky Home, about which folk legend Stephen Foster immortalized, literally rests within two blocks of my old Kentucky home. Spring in Kentucky is magnificent! Yet, sometimes, it is can be tumultuous, thanks to the changeable weather. For example, on April 8th, areas of Kentuckiana [points around Louisville and southern Indiana, just south of Indianapolis] experienced rain, snow, sleet, and hail, all in one day. I will never forget April 3, 1974, when tornadoes claimed the lives of my Aunt Del’s Mother and dozens of other innocent victims throughout the state. That awful weather system destroyed families, horses, horse barns, and homes within ten miles of my family’s home. It would be several years later when another torrential storm with tornadic winds would devastate even closer to home, downing trees, destroying terrain and obliterating power lines at my old Kentucky home, as well as, our state’s historic landmark. My family and others were essentially camping at our residence, without the amenities of conventional hot water or electricity for nearly a week. I remember my parents using big blocks of ice in jumbo Coleman coolers to keep drinks and perishables cold. The recent tornado in Clearwater was an unpleasant reminder of what can happen when the familiar occurrence of a relatively harmless water spout moves on-shore. I am so thankful there were no serious injuries, at least, none that I was aware of at press time. Spring is usually brief in Florida. It is a season in which we may take exuberant pleasure for a few days or weeks, when our typical tropic heat is not so intense. Please stay cognizant of nasty weather conditions, and take inventory of your storm preparedness. Update and maintain hurricane safety kits and supplies. Have a plan and make sure your family members know the drill. After all, hurricane season is only weeks away. You never know when nasty spring storms can change your life – and the lives of those you love – forever.

Business & FINANCE Curb Appeal Ideas to Make You the Star of the Neighborhood A few hours of exterior home and yard work can add thousands to your home’s value.

HomeGain.com survey about how home improvements boost home value.

April 20th and 21st marks Nationwide Open House weekend — the unofficial opening day of the spring real estate season. Since curb appeal strongly influences home values, it’s a great weekend to spruce up your own yard, especially if the neighbors are trying to sell their home.

Curb appeal works in the other direction, too. If a for-sale house down the block is sporting some bad curb appeal, it could sell for less than it might otherwise. And that comparable sale drives down the value of your home.

How much value can neighborhood curb appeal add? Having nice landscaping adds $1,777 in home value when you’re selling your home, according to data collected in a

We couldn’t find any data on how much the average buyer discounts his offer when the neighbors haven’t painted their house since 1979, but we do know nobody pays top dollar to buy next door to a house that looks like the “before” picture in a siding ad.

Here are 6 quick exterior projects you can do in a day or two to add to your home’s value and neighborhood appeal. • Landscape for curb appeal by re-sodding bare spots, trimming shrubs, and adding colorful spring flowers to your front yard. • Add some outdoor lighting for curb appeal to highlight your beautified yard after dark. • Pitch in with the neighbors to rent a power washer for a day to give your sidewalks and deck a little care and maintenance. Be gentle and careful if you decide to use the power washer to clean your home’s exterior; you can easily blast things off your house, like the paint, or get water into siding seams. • Clean your siding, whether it’s brick, wood, or vinyl, by using a long-handled, soft-bristled brush, soap (trisodium phosphate), and water. • Create a little cool curb appeal with house numbers — that is, dress up your address. • Freshen up the look of winter-ravished patio furniture with new pillows, a bright umbrella, or a colorful tablecloth to give the impression to anyone at the open house that the neighbors have fun parties. • Are your neighbors’ yards boosting or detracting from home values on your block? I’m thinking about storing tax and financial documents in the cloud. What should I know?

Cloud storage--using Internet-based service providers to store digital assets such as books, music, videos, photos, and even important documents including financial statements and contracts--has become increasingly popular in recent years. But is it right for you? Opinions vary on whether to store your most sensitive information in the cloud. While some experts say you should physically store items you’re not willing to lose or expose publicly, others contend that high-security cloud options are available. If you’re thinking about cloud storage for your financial documents, consider the following: • Evaluate the provider’s reputation. Is the service well known, well tested, and well reviewed by information security experts? • Consider the provider’s own security and redundancy procedures. Look for such features as two - factor authentication and complex password requirements. Does it have copies of your data on servers at multiple geographic locations, so that a disaster in one area won’t result in an irretrievable loss of data? • Review the provider’s service agreement and terms and conditions. Make sure you understand how your data will be protected and what recourse you have in the event of a breach or loss. Also understand what happens when you delete a file--will it be completely removed from all servers? In the event a government subpoena is issued, must the service provider hand over the data? • Consider encryption processes, which prevent access to your data without your personal password (including access by people who work for the service provider). Will you be using a browser or app that provides for data encryption during transfer? And once your data is stored on the cloud servers, will it continue to be encrypted? • Make sure you have a complex system for creating passwords and never share your passwords with anyone. Is Your Insurance Company Aware of All Potential Insureds Living in Your Household ? seriously injured in an automobile accident. The insurance company could void the policy as they were never notified of her presence in your household and the potential exposure she gives them to risk of having to pay under the policy. Your adult son, Tyler moves in with you to save money for a year before he heads to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He owns his own vehicle and carries his own insurance. One morning his car won’t start so he borrows your car and is involved in an accident. The insurance company could void your policy because of the failure to disclose to them that your son was residing in your home and could potentially be driving one of your vehicles or expose them to payment under your policy as a resident relative of your household.

In February, as we turn our thoughts to those we love, we should also be asking ourselves who could be considered a potential insured in our household and did I notify my insurance company of their presence. If you don’t do this analysis now, rather than when you have a need for coverage it might be too late as the insurance company could rescind, or void your policy for failing to disclose someone in your household who was a potential insured. The insurance company could deem it a material misrepresentation, or omission under the policy because they were not made aware of this person at the time of your application for insurance. A material misrepresentation, or omission does not have to be intentional either, it might be a simple mistake, but could still result in a loss of insurance coverage. Under Florida Statute 627.409, if the material misrepresentation or omission was one that if the insurance company had known the true facts, they would not have issued the policy, would not have issued it at the same rate, would not have issued it in the same coverage amount, or would not have provided a particular coverage, then they can void the policy on this basis. We have seen various different innocent situations over the years that have resulted in a voiding of an insurance policy due to an alleged material misrepresentation, or omission under that policy. For example, Grandma Savannah comes to stay with you because she no longer wants to live on her own. She does not drive and thus does not own a car. One day, a year later, while she is riding as a passenger in your vehicle she is

www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com

Aunt Lindsay is living with you to help take care of grandma while you go to work. She does not own a vehicle, but uses yours on occasion, especially to take grandma to her doctor’s appointments. This is once again another innocent scenario where an insurance company could void a policy based on a material misrepresentation, or omission under that policy. You should also take note that the situation that causes you to be exposed to a rescission, or voiding of the policy did not have to necessarily exist at the time of your application for insurance. It could be a situation that developed sometime after the initial application, but many insurance companies have a requirement that you continually update them about changes in your household including new residents who could be potential insureds under the insurance policy. We recommend that you regularly consult with your agent about those loved ones living in your home and make sure everyone is accounted for before an insurance claim needs to be made.

IT LOCAL DEFYING AGE

Awaken your “Unscripted Spirit! ” Spring is the perfect time to step back, and step up and assess life in full bloom, in order to play out as the most beautiful “Lotus” flower, that has just emerged from the dark and muddy waters, only to freshly unfurl its pure white petals of natural awakening to the world of its “totally unscripted” beauty and grace! Perhaps this serves as an effective metaphor when assessing our life! Are we rebirthing ourselves, emerging into an improved version of our former self? Are we in the early stages of the flower, moving thru each period of “growth” as in personal growth and development? Or have we been working on various stages in our life experience, emerging one step at a time, working at unleashing the old paradigms and false beliefs that hold us back from allowing us to “arrive!” Arrive in Self Confidence! Security! Authenticity! Inspirational! Ready to step into our “unscripted” role in life, requires thinking on your feet, learning the “Art of Self-Mastery!”! Some of my Springtime “nuggets” of springing forward are: Savoring the “who” we are, hold on to our inner child, sense of wonder, humor, allowing ourselves to “just be” in and live in the moment! Embrace gratitude, appreciation and Love, everywhere! Live the only way I KNOW how to live and that is with a “Heart Empowered Life!” Many of us sail through life knowing this, however, walking the talk, brings it into fruition and reality, as it also develops into “habit!” Imagine having the knowledge of a heart centered lifestyle, where, you are able to raise your consciousness level, totally above the drama, negativity, overall life challenges, difficult people, workplaces, just by becoming a “Master” at it, grounded in faith, and knowingness that we all have that amazing gift & treasure that we are blessed with at birth!! Everyone has it! Infinite possibilities of our dreams and a happy fulfilled life! Perhaps, THIS is the Springtime awareness for you, to raise the bar for your life! If you have ever felt like the Lotus flower, deeply emerged in the mud, trust me there is HOPE, as you rise into “the Light” to shine on you as you emerge into “YOU” in your new unscripted life of new beginnings! & ENTERTAINMENT TIME FOR WINE

Germany Kerner Spatlese

Kerner is a white grape variety grown widely across Germany, and was named for Justinus Kerner, a 19th-Century German poet and writer of drinking songs.

Despite the fact that one of its parents is a dark-skinned grape used for making red wines, Kerner is unmistakably a white-wine variety. It has large, light-green berries and shares many characteristics with Riesling, both in the vineyard and the glass. Like Riesling, Kerner is high in acid and has the ability to age well for many years. Kerner has a number of traits that appeal to winegrowers. First of all, it is not fussy about where it is grown. In Germany, a land dominated by the site-specific Riesling, this is a key attribute. It is also high yielding, ripens reliably and, as it buds late, is protected from spring frosts. This gem hails from the Nahe region, which is a relatively small wine-growing region in Germany, with around 10,400 acres. This wine is truly a delight, and is very flexible in its presentation. It runs the gamut of opportunities to enjoy the gentleness that springs forth from the bottle. When pairing this great wine, you may want to keep a few things in mind. This Kerner is delicious with foods that have “green” flavors, like the lime, jalapeño and tomatillo in a Snapper dish. Their vibrant acidity and minerality can also be terrific with rich dishes flavored with a squeeze of lime, like beef curry. GREAT as a Mother’s Day gift, or to serve by the pool or take on the boat, this wonderful white is sure to please. Call Time for Wine to UNCORK THE FUN and experience the difference, because after all, life is too short to drink bad wine! 813-664-1430

Pick Your Own Blueberries Starkey Blueberry Farm

You’ve probably loved them in smoothies, muffins, jellies, and jams. Maybe you have reduced them for a decadent sauce. You have probably paid a nice price for a few ounces of these antioxidant-packed, dark sapphire jewels of a fruit at Publix, Sweetbay or Winn Dixie. However, did you know blueberries are, literally, growing more and more popular and prosperous at local farms near you? Guess what? Now thru the end of the season, you can bring your family and your friends (but not your pets), and take advantage of the U-pick options at Starkey Blueberry Farm, right here in your own backyard! Many Florida farmers have chosen to invest in blueberry farms, due to the perfect climate and the decline of citrus crops, thanks to a horrible arbor disease affecting commercial citrus crops in every county in the state. No Worries! We are still the strongest citrus state, and that won’t change anytime soon. However, blueberry crops have burst into Florida agriculture, bringing beauty and nice profits early in the year when farmers need it most. Florida blueberry crops seriously impact the economy, since our blueberries are usually the first on the market, sold profitably wholesale up the east coast to Canada. Dedicated to sustainable, economical, and green-growing practices, Trey Starkey and Aaron Derksen joined forces to create Starkey U-Pick Blueberry Farm on 47 acres of the former Starkey Ranch in Trinity. What makes the Starkey U-Pick Blueberry Farm so spectacular – aside from the fact it is one of the most important, fundamental, interactive experiences for children and adults alike – is natural beauty of the farm and the bountiful supply of sweet, home-grown blueberries you have the satisfaction of picking yourself!

Seize Your Destiny and Your Destination with T I X Travel & Tickets By Debra Taylor Tee

Say you want to go to the Taylor Swift, Adele, or Bruce Springsteen concert, but it’s sold out. Maybe you want to see the Super Bowl, World Series or Stanley Cup, but tickets are scarce. No worries! It’s highly probable the experts at TIX Travel & Tickets have the connections to hook you up! Rich Klein, founder and president, boasted, “We are the only travel agency of its kind with a built-in ticket broker to get soldout tickets to concerts, theater, and sporting events.” Rich started out as a ticket broker in college. He successfully secured tickets for popular concerts and Broadway shows for his customers in the New York and New Jersey areas. “After graduation, people kept asking for tickets,” Rich said. “Soon companies were asking, not just for Broadway tickets, but for flight and hotel arrangements for out of town guests. Rather than farm out the travel portions, I learned the travel business and opened a full-service ticket and travel agency.” But that’s only a portion of his business. Since 1982, Rich and his team at TIX Travel & Tickets have helped others seize their own destiny by becoming ticket and travel agents, too. TIX is the only business opportunity that combines both travel and tickets.

STAR

The Perfect Blend of Eric Anderson The Eric Anderson Band & Synergy Ad Specialties, Inc. He loves “the synergistic energy” of playing for a crowd. This synergy fuels his passion, as demonstrated at the Chasco Fiesta last year, with each meticulous guitar stroke Eric Anderson masterfully played of the familiar riffs in Led Zeppelin’s, “Heartbreaker,” and other classic rock covers the audience craved. Eric was a pre-teen when his mother showed him his first four chords on her Gretsch Jet Firebird electric guitar that he currently owns today. It was then that his passion ignited for the guitar, and his innate love for music was manifested. Eric Anderson chose to pursue his place in music by the tender age of twelve. He took guitar lessons and he and some friends started their first band in junior high school. In high school, he continued to study music, but by this time, he was not only receiving instruction, he was passing it on through guitar lessons for others. However, the guitar was only one instrument of many, be it bass, keyboards, drums, whatever, Eric simply enjoys anything having to do with music! He studied music in college. Following graduation, Eric successfully sought employment in the recording industry. His musical resume includes impressive work composing, recording, producing, and performing tracks for legendary artists Busta Rhymes, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta, and others. According to Eric, it is difficult for him to identify a favorite artist or song, having such an inherent love for music. However, he favors 60’s & 70’s classic rock; jazz, and jazz-rock fusion; and he was able to rattle-off a few “architects of rock” who have influenced his style and inspired him musically as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Santana and Frank Zappa just to name a few.

New York City native, now Trinity resident, Eric along with other talented musicians, founded The Eric Anderson Band four years ago, and their popular sound continues to rock fans and followers throughout Tampa Bay! And when Eric is not performing with the band, you can catch him performing solo acoustic shows as well. Eric’s Mom had more to do with his professional life than simply introducing him to the beauty of the guitar. She and family-owned Synergy Ad Specialties, Inc., welcomed Eric aboard over ten years ago, where he currently serves as Vice President. Synergy Ad Specialties produces marketing items for businesses large and small. If you can imagine it, they can probably put your logo and message on it! Eric admitted, “It is very gratifying to me being able to offer these marketing tools to help build local businesses and strengthen our local economy. I take great pleasure in knowing that my business helps other businesses grow.” To that end, Eric is not only extremely involved in the family business, and his music, but he devotes many hours to the community. Eric is an active member of the West Pasco Business Association, a member of Trinity Rotary, in which he served as sergeant-at-arms for two years. He is past-president and remains active in Trinity Business Association. He is a member/ambassador for Trinity Odessa Chamber of Commerce, and sits on the Board of Directors for the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, after having served as pastchairman of the Ambassadors. He was selected as WPCC “Ambassador of the Year” two years in a row in 2011 & 2012 and “Young Professional of the Year” in 2014. Eric is also a six time King Pithla nominee and Synergy Ad Specialties has been nominated WPCC Business of the Year five years in a row. Eric gives 110% of himself to all of his endeavors. He said, “I’m very happy to know so many great people who care so much about our community.” To learn more about Eric Anderson and his band or as a solo artist, visit his website: www.ericandersonmusic.com. Unique Pets | The Sugar Glider By Doreen Damm

You may know them as pocket pets, sugar gliders are cuddly, tiny marsupials that are very sociable, traits that make them wonderful pets. They are incredibly playful, loyal and they can be taught numerous tricks. You’ll need a tall cage with plenty of branches to climb on, but they like to come out and play as often as possible. Keep in mind that sugar gliders are nocturnal by nature and they like to stay up at night, perfect if you’re a night owl.

Answers from Page 27

Sugar Gliders are capable of a lot of love and normally form strong bonds with their owners. You can take them outside once they have bonded as they see you as their safe place and are unlikely to run away. They are omnivorous, so they need a balanced diet of fruit, protein and fat, they are not squirrels so no nuts please. They have a life span of up to 15 years and are best suited for families with older children or singles. They are sure to bring plenty of joy to your life. http://sugarglidercare.org
