Our community has come a buzz preparing holiday parties, events and get togethers. There is something to do almost every night of the week. Many of the holiday festivities are hosted and sponsored by our local business owners in an effort to help those less fortunate. Did you know that every dollar you spend at a small local business creates up to 3 ½ times more local benefit than dollars spent at a chain. By supporting these hard working folks, they are able to put more back into our own community. Read all of the heartfelt stories of those that continue to give during the holidays and throughout the year. We thank each and every one of them for making our hometown a better place to live. As always, please shop the local businesses within these pages. They are committed to offering great products and services and are grateful for your loyalty and patronage. IT’s YOUR HOME Magazine continues to connect our readers to our local businesses in an effort to promote a thriving, economically-viable and close-knit community. Our love for community and our passion in supporting our local businesses is what compels us to share the heartfelt stories from those that make a difference in Trinity and surrounding areas. This a magical time of the year. Regardless of our age, the memories transport us back to our childhood. The sparkly, shining lights, stockings hung by the fireplace and shaking boxes wrapped in colorful paper underneath the Christmas tree have etched memories we will cherish forever. Take some time to enjoy the moment and make extra special memories this year with those you love. Give the gift of time, it will be your favorite memory! STORY
Anita Hilliard is a Real Knock Out! 9ROUND - 30 Minute Kickbox Fitness by Debra Taylor Tee To say Anita Hilliard is a busy woman would be an understatement. Anita is a mom with three children, ages 20, 17 & 13; she is a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices Florida Properties Group; she is a businesswoman representing Purium Health Products as a professional distributor; AND she manages Infinite Glow mobile spray tanning. Aside from all of these responsibilities, Anita has always maintained the desire to work out regularly to stay fit. Yet, her incredibly busy schedule and the time required to achieve the healthy results to which she aspired, were never compatible. That’s when she discovered a new and exciting way to follow her passion for fitness, while successfully juggling all of her other obligations: 9ROUND Fitness. 9ROUND Fitness was developed by world-renowned, professional kickboxing champion, Shannon “The Cannon” Hudson and his wife, Shotokan Karate black belt, Heather “The Hero” Hudson, when Shannon could not find a location where the “average person could be exposed to the “Top Secret” training of some of the best fighters in the world.”* Shannon’s actual expectation was not to find someplace for the working Mom to go into kickboxing training. No, he wanted a place that would apply the basic principles of kickboxing, in a convenient, time-friendly circuit workout format that focused on the basic regiments necessary to achieve strength and fitness in the shortest amount of time. The Hudson’s opened their first 9ROUND Fitness facility in South Carolina in 2008, and they’ve seen their concept proven successful the world-over. Anita recognized the need for this type of workout in the New Port Richey area, so she invested in a franchise, as much for herself, as for the numerous other busy Mom’s and businesspeople in the area. Anita explains, “Every day is different at 9ROUND! It’s a thirty-minute circuit, and each member benefits from a 9ROUND trainer’s guidance, motivation, and encouragement each visit.” That’s right. Each client at 9ROUND gets the benefit of www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com
expertise, guidance, encouragement and motivation from a professional trainer, either Mike or Gina each visit, without having to pay extra fees for a personal trainer. This is vital to staying on track, health and fitness-wise, because suffering an injury can be debilitating, especially to mothers and business professionals who cannot afford to hurt themselves with children to take care of and business meetings to attend. You are less likely to get bored or burnt-out with this type of circuit training, either, because the workout changes day to day. Therefore, the monotony of the same exercises and circuits are obsolete in the 9ROUND environment, meaning you are less likely to give it up. “Mike & Gina take great care of the gym and all our members providing them with a fit lifestyle in a very engaging and fun style,” Anita claims. Another caveat of the 9ROUND Fitness program is flexibility in scheduling. There are no set times for classes. Arrive anytime during open hours and get started within minutes. A new 30-minute workout begins every 3 minutes at 9ROUND! You’ll never shortchange yourself by arriving late, and you’ll have a kickin’ good time for a complete 30-minute full-body workout every visit! 9ROUND consists of nine stations of exercise. Each station has its own unique three-minute purpose, and your circuit is always overseen by Mike or Gina to insure you’re using proper form and intensity for the exercises. Essentially, you have the benefit of a personal trainer, without spending a penny more! In fact, monthly dues at 9ROUND are about the cost of a single hour of private personal training. Anita found exactly what works for her and her busy life in 9ROUND Fitness, and she acknowledged, “I love that we are able to motivate and inspire people to do great things and gain new skills. Seeing people progressing everyday is what it’s all about. My favorite thing to hear is people coming up to me saying how ‘This is the best 30 minutes of my day!’ We make an impact.” 9Round is located at 1326 Seven Springs Blvd in New Port Richey at the Chelsea Place Plaza. Call 727-877-4317 or visit www.9round.com/ChelseaPlaceFl for more info, and like them on Facebook, www.facebook.com/anita9round *excerpt from www.9round.com/fitness-franchises/leader 13

The Gift of Life... A Mother’s Christmas Wish by Doreen Damm
This Christmas, take the time to think about the blessings you and your family have received and consider the gifts that cannot be wrapped up in a pretty bow and left under the tree from Santa. “I believe in spirituality and that whatever happens in life usually turns out to be a blessing in disguise although we don’t know it at the time”. Jenniene Moran I was 17 when my kidneys failed. I was young with a baby. My son was about 16 months old. What I remember is that my eyes went blurry. I went to an eye doctor who told my mom to bring me directly to the emergency room because my blood pressure was sky rocketing. After a while I was diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD). I had no family history, and there was no apparent reason, my kidneys just failed. I did Hemo-dialysis three times a week, for four to five hours at a time, for the next 11 years of my life. I considered it my part time job. I did this while being a mom the best I knew how, getting a G.E.D. and also going to school for my cosmetology license. All of this was possible due to the support of my family and friends.
14 Holiday Issue 2015
In 1988, I wanted desperately to be free of the MACHINE. My option was kidney transplant. My younger brother was a perfect match. We were one of the few living related transplants back in the 80’s. But success! I was free of the MACHINE, free to be me. It was wonderful to be able to live my life with just a few side effects. After almost 12 years, my brother’s transplanted kidney started to get tired and it failed. The doctors said we had a good run. I then went back on the MACHINE for two more years. My husband was tested and he was a great match, so off we went again, in 2003, my second kidney transplant. I am very grateful for my third chance of life. I love being me and a mom, a mother in-law, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister and a friend. While waiting for a match for my much needed fourth kidney transplant, I can say with a glad heart, I am proud to be part of the Transplant community. We are special unique and blessed. We are family! If you would like to help, contact Jenniene Moran on Facebook at Jenniene NEEDS a Kidney: www.facebook.com/Jenniene-NEEDS-aKidney-1704821219750452

Remember the Spirit of the Season by Debra Taylor Tee Mathematics and algebra were never my strong suits. However, one equation I’ve learned by heart and revisit annually has remained the same since I was a young adult: Holidays x (working + volunteering + meal-planning + cooking + baking + wish-listing + shopping + gift-wrapping + traveling) - down-time = STRESS! That’s not what the spirit of the season is all about!

This year, I made the decision to eliminate certain variables of the equation, thereby altering the result. By managing the combination of factors, with the goal to achieve serenity through what should be a spiritual, sacred time that is Christmas, (or for you, maybe Hanukah, or Kwanza), I am changing my annual equation and, essentially, my paradigm, to one congruent with peace. I am not a Black Friday shopper. I am not a Cyber Monday shopper. I am a #shoplocalsaturday shopper, but was unable to commit to that particular day this year. Therefore, I started shopping early for a change, picking up little, perfect gifts I’ve found over the last few months at local businesses, like Turtle’s Nest, and the $10 Store. I have a much-needed appointment at Cabelo’s for some “me time”, and while there, I plan to pick up gift certificates for my friends who enjoy mani-pedis and a day at the spa. (Check and check!) In as much as I realize that the holiday is not all about giftgiving, I enjoy giving tokens of love and appreciation to the people who mean so much to me. They bring joy to my life, so it seems only natural to show my appreciation, even in a small way. I’m taking my a great friend and mentor to dinner at Zen Forrest, and I’m treating another friend to Chef John’s Crazy Tuna Wontons at his next Wine Tapas Night at Seven Springs Golf & Country Club. Oh, and I can’t forget about my puppies. Even though everyday is Christmas for my canines, they are all going to Paw Wash Plus for a “Spaw Day” package, complete with blueberry facials! Ha! Remember the spirit of the season! Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, no matter how or who you celebrate this holiday season, I encourage you to change your equation- not your family traditions -and relax and enjoy what should be the happiest time of the year, when giving brings joy and receiving is ultimately unnecessary.
From our family to yours, Merry Christmas ~ Happy Hanukah Joyous Kwanza! 16 Holiday Issue 2015

HERO
The Honorable Steve Farrell & Family AKA Team Farrell
Family + Community = The Gift of Love by Debra Taylor Tee
It was truly a team effort that proved victorious at the 18th annual “Honorary Governor of West Pasco” competition, decided over the summer. Team Farrell that is, headed up by none other than the newly-elected “Governor” himself, Steve Farrell. Sponsored by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, the “governor’s race” is an annual fundraiser for WPCC, and the charities of two candidates campaigning for the “Governorship”. This year, Steve’s worthy competitor, Doug Saxon, represented Pasco Kids First. Good Samaritan Health Clinic of Pasco, which provides healthcare for the uninsured, was Steve’s benefactor. One “vote” equaled $1, donated to the organizations by a set deadline. Whichever candidate received the most “votes” was “elected Honorary Governor of West Pasco 20152016”. Half the money raised benefited the nonprofits, while the other half WPCC committed to their efforts in support of local businesses and their road to success. A cause close to Steve’s heart, Good Samaritan Health Clinic of Pasco, is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers, that provides quality, non-emergency medical and dental services, freeof-charge, for the uninsured residents in Pasco County. Their goal is to be recognized as the leading source of healthcare for the uninsured through their partnerships with medical and dental providers and other community resources. They strive to use these resources wisely and to always treat their patients, volunteers, and staff with dignity and respect. “I am very proud to have been chosen as the Honorary Governor of West Pasco Chamber. I enjoy representing the Chamber as well as our community,” Steve acknowledged. His path to the governorship is littered with philanthropic deeds and good-will. Aside from Good Samaritan, Steve’s other benevolent endeavors include: Port Richey Rotary, who, not only supports our communities, but is part of an organization www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com
active throughout the world, making a difference in people’s lives; The Angelus House; RAP House; various Veterans organizations; Fire and Iron a children’s burn camp, as well as other children’s charities. Steve and his wife, Tina, own Team Farrell Contracting and Roofing, Farrell Floors, Farrell Outdoors, and Farrell Air Conditioning. They moved to Florida to raise a family after Tina’s parents relocated to West Tampa Bay, when they began their road to professional success and charitable giving. This honorary Governorship is not the only time Steve and Team Farrell have been recognized for their service. In 2014, Farrell Roofing, was named Philanthropic Corporation of the Year, after having been nominated by Sertoma Speech and Hearing Foundation. Steve and Tina have three daughters and a son: Annamarie (26), Christina (26), Shelby (21), and Stephen (19). They will tell you that to maintain balance between their personal and professional lives, they consistently include their family in their work, charity and social events. They see it as a better way of giving more back to the community they love. Steve explained, “Involving our family in our non-profit work keeps us strong as a family. Our children have participated in events we sponsor and have worked in our business in different capacities. They also have learned that with success, comes responsibility to give back. They enjoy it as much as we do. He humbly added, “ My family is the most important thing to me. I am happy when I know that they are happy and healthy, and I also enjoy seeing other people happy. This path has enabled me to give my family a good life, and provide them a home. It has also allowed me to give back to our community and make a difference in some lives. I hope, I have also been able to make people happy.” Congratulations, Governor! Thank you for your service to WPCC and to our community! 17

LIVING Living the Wild Life
In Search of White Squirrels We all know about squirrels. The cute little brownish gray mammals with the bushy tails. They play chicken, darting out in front of our cars, raiding our bird feeders and digging holes in our gardens. Some say they are no better than rats and others adore them both for their intelligence and agility. As a wildlife gardener, I have a love-hate relationship with these persistent critters. As soon as the bird feed hits the feeding stations, down the trees they run. They would eat all the food before the birds made their rounds. So, I put out more feeding stations and all that got me was more squirrels. Not the most perfect plan. While grilling late one night, we found out we had flying squirrels too. My husband texted me “come outside – there’s a rat on the feeder”. I grabbed the flashlight and went out back, to our delight, it was not a rat. We spent the greater portion of that year sitting in the garden at night watching our flying squirrels. Their white bellies would glow in the spotlight as they flew in. On our October vacation to North Carolina we appropriately stayed near Transylvania County – The Land of 250 Waterfalls. We decided to visit as many waterfalls on the last day as we could which took some very good planning. I was mapping out our excursion from the local visitors guide and ran across an article about White Squirrels. Well you know what came next. “Honey!! They have white squirrels, I have to photograph them”. So we made a trip to the college campus in Brevard County, known for their white squirrel population. It was a rainy cold day and I was very sure the squirrels would not be out and about, white or gray. We circled the campus three times, passing the security guard once. And just as we were about to give up “White Squirrel!” my husband shouted. I almost jumped out of the car before he had time to stop. I know it is the novelty of the White Squirrel that makes them so adorable. They still do all the things gray squirrels do, but they really are a beautiful sight. We saw several that day, burying walnuts, hanging upside down on a tree trunk and just foraging in the still green grass, what a contrast. The story of how they got there is a cute tale. A traveling carnival had white squirrels they acquired in Florida. An accident occurred and two of the white squirrels where freed and moved into a pecan farm. A dream come true for white squirrels but a nightmare for the pecan farmer. He asked a friend to help him catch them and when he did, they were kept as pets. When one of them got loose, it was only fitting to let the other go. It was not long before they breed and now Brevard is very proud of their white squirrel population. The white squirrels are not albino but a genetic mutation of the eastern gray squirrel. You don’t have to travel to North Carolina, they can be found in the Ochlockonee River State Park near Sopchoppy. Florida is home to three species of squirrels, the eastern gray squirrel, the fox squirrel, and the southern flying squirrel. The most common in urban areas is the eastern gray squirrel. They are active during the day and often seen feeding on the ground. When it comes to home decorating ideas mixing modern items with antiques is a great one because it keeps a room fresh, adds contrast and depth, and ultimately creates balance. It adds a bit of excitement and an element of the unexpected.
• Put a modern, streamlined bench under an ornate console or desk. • An ornate Loius XIV gilt mirror (or any decorative French mirror) looks great in an ultra modern room. • A modern Lucite or glass dining table surrounded by Lucite chairs is stunning when paired with an ornate crystal chandelier and antique silver mirror. • A rustic dining table paired with modern aluminum chairs creates terrific contrast. • Cover an antique chair in an ultra modern fabric. • A piece of modern art in a room filled with antiques creates a pop. • Put modern lamps on an antique sofa table, or vice versa. • Place modern chairs around a beautiful, round French or English wood pedestal table. Your home needs to look good to you, and if you truly love a piece, then there’s a place in your home for it. source: interiordec.about.com

Spectacular Christmas Palettes Beyond Red and Green by Amber Hopman Instead of dragging out holiday decorations in the same old expected colors this year, dare to consider these gorgeous alternatives. It might seem daring to opt for blue instead of green or to try out brown instead of red, but if you want to wow your guests this season, try experimenting with one of these alternative color combos. Blue and red. Add some character to your tree by bringing in blue. This bright, vibrant color complements the red ornaments you already have and gives Christmas decorations a fresh feel. Purple and red. Purple has long been known as the color of royalty, so bring a regal touch to your holiday decor by mixing it with red. The dark purple makes the red stand out and is an especially great option in a room full of wood.
Blue and Lime. For a fun, edgy twist, cover your Brown and green. If you love a traditional, classic take, add brown tree with bright blue & accents to your green decor. The earthy color brings an elegant look lime green decorations. to seasonal decorations, blending especially well with wood and
beige tones.
Red and lime. For those who just can’t seem to kick red and green (which is understandable), use lime for a contemporary twist. Navy and silver. Navy is practically a neutral and goes well with anything, including Christmas decorations. Mix it with a bit of silver sparkle and white accents for a clean, refreshing look. Orange and green. Let the tropics inspire this palette. If you’re not excited about adding fruit to Pink. This sock monkeys your tree, get the same Florida feel with orange and yellow ornaments. & explosion of color will See more at: be an unexpected treat www.houzz.com/ideabooks/5167051/list/15-spectacular-christmas-palettes-beyond-red-and-green for kids.

Christmas STORY
An Andolini Christmas By Jeff Cappis
Last year we had a typical Christmas. The snow covered the ground in a smooth white blanket, the air was crisp and the stars were out in all their glory. As an added bonus, you could read a newspaper by the moonlight, so, the forest was well lit. It was a good night to build a fire (in the fireplace this time), and look at the view out our living room windows. Our neighbors from down the road, Alfonso and Christina Andolini, had come by for a visit. They were very rich and when Christina got excited, the noise from all her jewelry could be heard throughout the house. She was much larger than Alfonso so he kept sliding towards her on the couch. They often talked over each other, stayed far too long and drank all our wine, but the bubbly company made the time pass pleasantly. I’m not sure how much they learned about us that night, but we learned a lot about them. Amidst all the stories of their business successes and lavish trips, there was one story that I think took us to the core of who they actually are. I could listen to this story over and over again (and probably will). It occurred many Christmases ago. Alfonso and Christina were immigrants from Italy. They stepped off the boat (well, actually a Boeing 707) back in 1970. With only a few hundred dollars and a little english, they set out to build a new life. The only valuable possessions they had were a gold necklace and a pocket watch: presents they had given each other on their wedding day. They both worked odd jobs and got a one bedroom apartment. Times were hard, but these were resilient young people who knew how to stretch a buck. After rent and groceries, however, there never was much left in the well. The first Christmas was particularly hard. They were away from their families. Still they had each other. Alfonso worked out a deal with the local grocer for a frozen turkey and Christina was determined to make the best dinner they ever had. Alfonso puzzled over what to get her for Christmas. The light over the dining room table was a single bulb hanging from an electrical wire. Christina always wanted a nice light fixture over the table. While out strolling one day, she spotted a fixture in a shop that reminded her of the one her mother had. Alfonso decided he needed to get her that fixture. But how? He had no money. All he had was the pocket watch. He reasoned that it was worth at least as much as
www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com
the light fixture. He could pawn it, give Christina a good Christmas, then get the watch back by working another part time at the grocery store. That’s what he did. On his lunch hour the next day, he went to the pawn shop and made his deal. Now all he had to do was remember where the shop with the fixture was. Oops. A few days later, Christina was cleaning the apartment when she notice his watch wasn’t in its usual spot. She looked high and low for it, but all she found in its place was a pawn ticket. Christina was a smart woman. She realized he had pawned his only valuable possession to buy her a Christmas present. Knowing what it mean to him, she couldn’t let that happen. She reasoned that her necklace was probably worth as much as his pocket watch, so she decided to pawn it to buy him his watch back, then get the necklace back by working part time at the grocery store. That’s what she did. On Christmas morning they flipped a coin to see who got to open their present first. Alfonso won. Christina handed him a small box. He pulled off the ribbon and inside found his pocket watch! He was over joyed to have it back. “I saw your pawn ticket,” she said. “I couldn’t bear to think of you without it.” He smiled and with a tear, kissed her gently. Now it was her turn. Alfonso handed her a big present. Excited, she quickly pulled the ribbons off, ripped the paper and opened the box. In it she didn’t find a grand light fixture. Her smile softened. All that was in it was a single gold necklace. “I saw your pawn ticket too,” he said. That night, under a single light bulb hanging from an electrical wire, they had the best turkey dinner ever. They both had a good laugh too, over how much trouble they’d gone to, giving each other things they already had. And they still have them to this day: a watch, a necklace, and each other. The gifts that have added true value to their lives and keep on giving. With that, they are truly rich.

Tis the Season… to check your homeowner’s insurance policy It looks like we made it through another hurricane season without incident. However, as we move into the holiday season, there are other things to consider when it comes to your homeowner’s insurance policy. This time of year brings with it an increase in theft and fire claims. Consider the following items when reviewing your homeowner’s insurance policy: • Deductibles – Are your deductibles low enough to afford if you have to file a claim? • Personal Property Contents Coverage – Is your limit high enough to replace your personal contents should you have a loss? • Personal Property Replacement Cost Coverage – Most policies do not automatically include this coverage and only cover for Actual Cash Value. There is a higher premium charged for Personal Property Replacement Cost Coverage, but it is minimal and should be included. • Know the value of your high-dollar items – Most policies have a very low limit on specific items like art, jewelry, furs, firearms, and electronics. Consider purchasing a separate Inland Marine policy which provides extra coverage for these high-dollar items. • Renters – Your landlord’s policy does not cover your personal contents. Renter’s insurance policies are very affordable and will cover your contents if there is a claim. • Personal Liability – With all the company you will be having for the holidays, make sure you check this limit. Most policies are issued with a limit of $100,000. This coverage can be increased for a very minimal additional premium. Personal Umbrella policies can also be purchased to increase those limits even higher.

Support Our Local Economy This Holiday Season
by Doreen Damm
While you are making your holiday preparations consider shopping at our local small business and using small business contractors and service providers. Grab lunch at the local dinner and treat family and friends to dinner at our local restaurants. By supporting your local small businesses, you can energize the shops, your community becomes more connected and you might even find a unique gift or a new favorite dish. Did you know that on average, 48 percent of each purchase at local independent businesses was recirculated locally, compared to less than 14 percent of purchases at chain stores? This data, shared by the American Independent Business Alliance. More and more people are recognizing how important it is for their local economy and quality of life to patronize local businesses that support their community. That includes not
32 Holiday Issue 2015
only job creation and taxes, but support for local charities, events and more. Independent businesses help increase employment rates, as well become the customers to local accountants, lawyers, printers, marketing agencies and more. The domino effect is simply too good to ignore – yet unfortunately, too many consumers do. Online or at big box stores, remember that every time you spend even a dollar, you are impacting your local economy, vitality and overall livelihood. The schools, public services, parks and recreation and so much more are all impacted by local businesses, as well, and again, impacted by your choice to support your community at large… or not. So this holiday season – and even beyond – consider where you want to spend your dollars and how it will impact the big picture of your hometown.

& ENTERTAINMENT TIME FOR WINE
Oh Rome! Moscato D’Asti A New Holiday Favorite!!! Imported from the most world renowned Moscato producing region in Italy, Oh Rome Moscato D’ Asti is a vibrant and refreshing wine with hints of pear, cantaloupe and green apple. Clearly one of the best Moscato’s on shelves today. Its effervescence is just bubbly enough to tickle the tongue and linger fantastically! While it is a festive and fun wine, it does have a sense of place and style that help explain why it ranks so high as one of Italy’s favorite wines. Moscato d’Asti is only slightly fizzy or semi-sparkling (Italians use the word frizzante to describe semi-sparkling) as opposed to fully sparkling like Asti and has more delicate flavors and lower alcohol than does Asti. Moscato d’Asti is a more elegant and rewarding choice than the typically bland and uber- sweet Asti.
Moscato d’Asti has a natural affinity for a wide variety of foods. For example, Moscato pairs well with the following: •A wide variety of appetizers, including paté and grilled salmon •Fresh fruits and/or cold cuts - it is excellent with melon and prosciutto. •Not-too-sweet desserts such as fresh fruit, fruit tarts, biscotti and sorbet. For a truly ambrosial treat, splash some Moscato over a bowl of fresh strawberries. • Moscato d’Asti is a wine that should be drunk young, ideally no later than a few years after bottling. It is a wine meant for the table and not the cellar. Moscato d’Asti should be served slightly chilled. •Finally, Moscato is the ideal wine to serve at the end of an all-you-can-eat buffet (Thanksgiving and Christmas come to mind) where people are so stuffed they can barely make room for anything other than a glass of refreshing Moscato d’Asti. Executive Chef John Clark Seven Springs Golf & Country Club
“Eat With Your Eyes First” by Debra Taylor Tee
T
The holidays are here, and the beauty and bustle of the season is not lost at the beautiful Seven Springs Golf & Country Club, or by their talented Executive Chef, John Clark. He kicks it up a notch or three to prepare special menus to accommodate the varying palates of guests attending the numerous banquets, parties and events of the season, as well as, to satisfy the many members and guests who frequent the club’s restaurant in Trinity. Chef John admits, “I have a passion for what I do, for creating food that is not only pleasing to the palate, but to the eye as well. You eat with your eyes first.” For example, he used his creative flair to construct a shrimp and pineapple tree using large gulf shrimp, fresh pineapple, palm fronds, and colorful produce. For a recent baby shower, he carefully sculpted a baby carriage from a watermelon. Chef John, a native of New England, cultivated his culinary passion by watching his Swedish Grandmother prepare delicious dishes when he was growing up. His career and experience as a Chef began with the ClubCorp of America group, specifically, East Lake Woodlands and Countryside Country Clubs. ClubCorp employee and management partners strive to provide an exceptional experience to each and every member and guest. Chef John exceeded expectations at ClubCorp, and he achieved that same high level of excellence at the Wine Cellar and Lobster Pot restaurants, and during his stint as executive chef with Fox Hollow Golf & Country Club.
Chef John has settled in with SSGCC after nearly two years, and he finds the staff with whom he works, and the club, like family and home. “Since this is a larger club than others I’ve been fortunate to be part, it is more of www.ItsYourHomeMagazine.com
a challenge. The people have been very nice and have made me feel right at home here,” he said. Chef John is a master at homemade dishes, like his Grandma used to make, such as “real turkey and real gravy”. However, he relishes those opportunities when he can “flex his culinary muscle” and expand the “home-style stuff” from his standard menu for special events, like Wine Tapas Nights or their fivecourse Wine Dinners. He is known to concoct something original, like his Crazy Tuna Wontons, or combine different flavors such as scallops with roasted red peppers sauce, as well as, his truly special goat cheese-stuffed chicken breast. He prefers to purchase seasonal fruits and vegetables and scrumptious Gulf seafood straight from local purveyors, in support of our community’s economy. Plus, Chef John selects only choice Angus beef and prime meats, for his most flavorful preparations, because only the best will do for his members and guests! Chef John is happy to consult with you about the perfect menu options for your special events: holiday parties, weddings, receptions, birthdays, baby showers, business meetings, and more. Whether they are on-site in the warm, comfortable, festive atmosphere that is Seven Springs Golf & Country Club, or catered offsite at your location of choice, Chef John will bring it with nothing but the very best, for you and yours, each and every time! Although the Seven Springs Golf & Country Club community is based on membership, the dining room is open to the public. Chef John cordially invites you to his SSGCC “home” at 3535 Trophy Blvd., in New Port Richey. Learn more on their website: www.ssgcc.com, or for reservations, call 727-376-0035. 35

Christmas in Pasco at 72o
by Debra Taylor Tee
Look for the Crustacean Station Food Truck
Christmas in Pasco is represented by 70 degree weather and sparkling white sugar sand that is found across Pasco County. Not the cold white stuff shoveled annually by our northern neighbors.
West Pasco residents, New England snowbirds, and lobster lovers rejoice! Chances are, the Got Lobstah? truck is “pahked” in a “laht” near you!
A great example of the sparkle in the sand is the Wilderness Wonderland event held annually at J. B. Starkey Wilderness Park. Drive through the pristine park under the sprawling oak trees and through a Christmas Village sporting a North Pole look while enjoying the Florida climate.
Local entrepreneurs, Gary and Karen Amundson, developed the concept using Karen’s own family recipes to create a food truck for the Trinity area that is solely based on the decadence of succulent, coldwater Maine lobster.
Event Date: Dec. 10-12 and 17-20 Time: 6pm - 9pm Cost: $2 per car
According to Gary, the secret to great lobster is that they be shipped live, directly from Maine, for fabulous, flavorful shellfish deliciousness. “We host about 25 friends or so at our house every year for a big lobster cookout. After hearing over and over that we should bring this to the public, we decided to start Got Lobstah?” Their incredible, culinary, crustacean creations, made solely with the fine products of Maine, include the ever-popular lobster rolls and crabmeat rolls, served in special buns referred to as “Top Loaders”; lobster bisque; lobster mac & cheese and New England Clam Chowder. Karen & Gary showcase Got Lobstah? at food truck rallies, fundraisers, parties and other special events in the Trinity area and throughout Tampa Bay. If you are a lobstah lover, become a fan and Like Got Lobstah? on Facebook for weekly locations, dates, times and menu. 727-236-1324.
Central Pasco and Gulf Railroad located in Crews Lake Park offers the annual Christmas Train Ride to Santa’s North Pole. Ride this scale railroad through the scenic park, hop off the train at Santa’s cabin to meet and take pictures with Santa Claus. Event Date: Nov. 28-29, Dec. 12-13 and 19-20 Time: 10am - 4pm Cost: $5 per person Shoppers always love the opportunity to ice skate under the Florida sun at the Shops of Wiregrass. After a day of shopping, stay for a meal at one of the excellent restaurants on property and experience the Symphony of Lights. STAR
by Debra Taylor Tee The Greek “Jule Vera” translates to “young truth”, which is a most appropriate name for the hottest, new, young, alternative rock band that has taken major cities in North America by storm and will soon be rocking their sound throughout Europe.
were introduced to Kyle in October 2014, and by January this year, they were signing new contracts with producers Pure Noise Records in California, tours started falling into place, and they began receiving lots of national press. It’s very cool to see!”
Jule Vera includes Trinity natives, Kyle Horvath, 22, who drives the rhythmic beat as percussionist, and brother, Alex, 23, who serves as tour manager for the group; as well as Alabamans, Jake Roland, 19, who leads with his talented guitar skills; William Stacey, 22, who maintains deep undertones on his bass guitar; and lead singer, Ansley Newman, 19, the youngest member and only female, who keeps their growing fan base coming back for more of her lead vocals and smooth, alto-rich sound. Alternative Press touted Jule Vera as one of the “top 100 bands to watch,” and AP reviewer, Matt Crane, posted glowing comments on their website about the energy and dynamics of one of AP’s “Top 10 videos of 2015, so far.” Crane said, “They came out of nowhere with “Light The Night,” a thunderous, uplifting youth anthem worthy of top 40 radio.”
Jule Vera is not like most rock bands. They are respectful of their craft and their audience. They are down to earth and they appreciate their fans, without whom they would not have risen so quickly in this highly-competitive industry. They are simply the grown-up, ambitious, hard-working kids next door, living their collective musical dreams and seeing them to fruition.
Trinity businessman, Barry Horvath, of Advisors Mortgage and Financial Group and Dynamic Title, and proud Dad of Kyle & Alex, had this to say: “It’s exciting to see this band take off and watch them grow; (Jake, Ansley & Will)

Jule Vera regularly returns to New Port Richey/Trinity to participate in and support fundraising events. They most recently performed at the West Pasco Business Association’s River Lights Boat Parade and at Spartan Manor for the “How the Grinch Saved Christmas” event. You can see our local stars at Winter Wonderland, Dr. Unger’s 6th Annual Family Festival on December 12th. Take a listen to Jule Vera and their original music on Pandora, Spotify, and iTunes. You can see their highly-acclaimed video “Light the Night”, and others, on their YouTube channel. Champagne Strawberry Jello Just a little bubble. Just a little romantic. Just a little prettiness. A whole lot of deliciousness! Perfect for your New Years Celebration. Ingredients: 3 tablespoons or 3 envelopes of unflavored gelatin powder 2 cups cold water 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 cups cold champagne 1 1/2 cups cold ginger ale 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries Preparations: In a saucepan, sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the cold water and allow the gelatin to absorb the water for 2 minutes. Bring the water with the gelatin powder to a boil over high heat while stirring until the gelatin is fully dissolved. Remove from the heat. Transfer the gelatin mixture to a bowl, add the sugar, and stir until dissolved. Then, stir in the champagne and ginger ale. Refrigerate until thickened a bit. Make sure the mixture is still partially liquid. Fold in the strawberries. Spoon into 7 to 10 individual molds or a big mold. The smaller the mold the firmer the jello will be.
