Attorney Debora Diaz admittedly “works hard and plays hard,” but she loves to spend down time on the water in the Florida sunshine, often venturing out solo on her jet-ski after a busy day at her practice in New Port Richey. The native of Rochester, NY, admits, “I am passionate about LIFE, enjoying the simple things, but also making memories. I love the ocean and sunshine!” Debora understands about life being short, and she strives to do everything she can to live her life to the fullest each day, and provide effective legal counsel to empower her clients and bring peace to their lives. She freely admits, “I am passionate about life, the law, health and wellness. I want to make a difference! Debora studied industrial and labor relations at Cornell University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to Syracuse University to attain her law degree. Since her admittance to the bar in 1995, Debora has successfully exercised her legal prowess for more than 20 years. Her law practice focuses on family & business matters such as pre-/post-nuptial agreements, divorce, paternity, parenting plans, child support, non-traditional family law matters, and those of same-sex couples. Additionally, Debora tackles issues involving small businesses, non-competes, employee handbooks and policies, and administrative licensing. “My practice is based on honesty, integrity and customer service at all times. Every day is different for me, but I love the satisfaction my clients receive and the problem-solving aspect of my cases,” Debora said.
Her friends and colleagues describe Debora as generous but cautious, strong, and an independent professional who is organized and to the point. Other adjectives used when discussing Debora’s attributes include industrious, reliable, dependable, goal-driven, and “a good Samaritan to our community”. “I am involved in several organizations, and I enjoy each of them,” she confesses. Debora is a member of the West Pasco Bar Association, Clearwater Bar Association, Rotary Club of Holiday, Working Women of Tampa Bay [WWOTB], Woman In Networking [WIN], Women Helping Women, Keep It Local, LLC, and Pasco Cash Mob. She also serves as a director and charter advisor member of Trinity Odessa Chamber of Commerce, and she sits on the board of directors of the Connections Job Development Program. Although she resides in Pinellas County, Debora truly believes in giving back to the community where she devotes the majority of her time practicing law. She said, “I go to local restaurants, shop our small businesses and seek professional services locally. I regularly donate to different non-profit organizations in our community, because life is about helping others and hopefully, leaving the world a better place. I try to live by the motto be kind.”
Unfortunately, one very important family case fell completely out of her hands.
Debora enjoys sharing her life with significant other, Jeff, who she strongly believes was heaven-sent from her late husband. The couple enjoys spending time together, boating, jet-skiing, traveling, and capturing life’s special moments through photography, her latest hobby.
After celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary July 11, 2007, Debora lost her husband, Bob Brenhoch, the following November to a massive heart attack. Butterfly Gardening for Kids by Doreen Damm
The green world around us is a magical place. Plants grow from tiny seeds, caterpillars change into butterflies and animals live their lives without regard for us. So how do you get children interested in planting and tending a garden at home? Plant a butterfly garden! The most recognized and easy to attract is the Monarch Butterfly. Vibrant orange and black wings that look like panes of stained glass are sure to please. They lay their eggs under the leaves of Milkweed plants. You don’t have to plant native Milkweed, the Mexican Milkweed is suited for Florida’s heat and readily available at your local garden center. Milkweed is the main food source for the hungry caterpillar that is going to hatch from that egg. They will eat the stems bare, but the plant will quickly recover sending out new blooms and leaves for the next generation. Plant them mixed in with other nectar producing plants to disguise the stems in the interim.
Kids can have fun checking their caterpillars’ movements daily. Once the caterpillar has fattened up, it will climb to a spot where it will hang upside down until it becomes a Chrysalis. At this point you can just observe, but to keep the young ones interested you may want to bring it inside a safe house. The chrysalis will turn dark and transparent just before hatching. While the newly hatched butterfly’s wings are preparing for flight they are very docile and will happily rest on your hand, just be sure not to touch the wings. Kids thrill at the chance to hold a butterfly and will want to attract even more. Fun Ways To Stay Fit Some folks love the gym. Maybe it’s the fancy equipment or the motivation that comes from not wanting to be the only one who can’t keep up in Zumba class. But there are other ways to stay fit. 1) Go For A Bike Ride – Starkey Park and the Suncoast Trail just two local trails 2) Take Up Boxing – A few rounds in the ring can be great cardio 3) Dance, Dance, Dance - Dancing involves all of your major muscle groups 4) Jump In The Pool – Find a water aerobics class or just swim laps 5) Do Your Own Gardening – It’s a great way to strengthen & tone major muscle groups

This issue celebrates family, and I originally planned to share humorous anecdotes from our annual family gathering for the Kentucky Derby, or as I call it, “The Derby Day Nash Bash,” held at my cousins’ home the first Saturday in May. Our beloved cousin, Jeff Nash, serves as “bookie,” and we legally place bets on the day’s races. There are spreadsheets, jackpots, mint juleps, jocularity, delicious food, and great family-friend fellowship! Mike and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and came away only $10 down for the day – what I would call a successful Derby! Additionally, I thought I would include details of the surprise my sister and I concocted for our Mom on Mother’s Day. My nephews had baseball games, my husband was on-call, my brother-in-law had to sleep before his next 3rd shift, so Dana & I got creative! She picked up Mom’s favorite, yellow roses, I prepared her choice meal, bought her best-loved cake and candy, and we surprised her with an early picnic lunch. She did not expect anything, which made it a short but sweet, extra-special Mother’s Day! On the Wednesday following, before the warm, fuzzy, family feeling had faded, I learned that a dear college friend lost her youngest daughter in an auto accident near our alma mater. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. My heart was broken, and I ached for my friend in her profound loss. My heart still aches as I prepare to attend services for her daughter. I can’t help but reflect on the many precious moments spent with my best friends in college and my own beloved family, even the abbreviated celebrations, like Mother’s Day, cut short by ballgames, work and life. Little did my friend know, this would be her final Mother’s Day with her 20 year-old daughter, an aspiring nurse. I can only imagine the void she must feel in her heart right now, only days after they celebrated together – her daughter’s life cut way too short. Cherish every moment you have with your loved ones. You never know when it will be your last. RIP, Sweet Alyssa. 12 Family Issue 2015

genealogy A Recorded History Of A Person’s Family by Cammy Vaughn We have all heard family stories of a famous or notorious relative that is handed down from our parents and grandparents. As an amateur genealogist your task will be to piece together your ancestor’s lives separating fact from fiction. It is important to work backward in time and be aware of what was happening in the United States and abroad at the time in which they lived. Begin your quest with yourself and your parents. Then work with the four generations of your grandparents. Record everything you know about each person. Now comes the detective in you. You must piece together clues and information that you have working from the known to the unknown. Once your first four generations are complete, increase the number of generations by one. Tidying Up Can Result in Life-Changing Magic!
Organizing phenom Marie Kondo promises big results — if you embrace enormous changes and tough choices. After nearly a lifetime of practice, the Tokyo-based Kondo has developed what she calls the KonMari Method. There are two key tenets: Keep only what inspires joy in your heart and organize by category, not spaces. That may be the first bit of advice, but there’s much more, in fact — 216 pages’ worth in her book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing

1. Think of what is your ideal life. In other words, how do you want to live? 2. Gather items by categories not room and group them together. She suggests starting with clothes first, then books and then documents. 3. Ask yourself, do these things spark joy? “Take and touch each item, one at a time with your hands and feel if it sparks joy in you or not,” she says. 4. Sort all goods you plan to keep and put them in their proper location after determining the place where each item should be.

Seems too easy, right? According to Kondo, what makes the method more difficult is the fact that many of us imbue our things with emotions. We hang on to items we don’t like because they were gifts; we allow books and papers to pile up in anticipation of reading them later; we refuse to let go of regrettable purchases because of the money we spent on them. “The purpose of the KonMari Method is to sharpen the sense of judgment of what items are important to oneself,” she says. This is where the difficult part comes in, and Kondo has a simple remedy. For the movie aficionado, there’s nothing like a home theater but most of us do not have a dedicated room just for movie night. You can create a quality movie-watching experience right in your family room. Decorate Around Your TV Just because your TV is the main feature of your home theater doesn’t mean it has to constantly take center stage. Consider placing it in a unit or console, allowing you to hide it behind closed doors when not in use. Flat screens can elegantly blend into surroundings. Hang it among other wall art or amid bookshelves that span the wall. Or consider placing it above your fireplace.
Don’t Forget the Refreshments Incorporate furniture into your family room that can double as a platform for concessions. A low coffee table that elegantly displays books by day can be ideal for that big bowl of popcorn and gummies during show time. Mix dinner and a movie by using the coffee table or long side table as a buffet. It seems that the local small business world is gaining confidence again now after the “Great Recession.” This year at Unbehagen Advisors, in our tax and small business monthly accounting/bookkeeping and payroll divisions, we have been meeting with many new entrepreneurs that are considering venturing out on their own to start a new business. Rather, Lonzalo’s was actually named for a former local ranch foreman named Lonnie Lonzalo Cannon. He was a long-time ranch hand for JB Starkey, Sr., and JB Starkey, Jr. Today, he is 95 years old and resides in northern Florida. The local connection is very important to Chef Scott, who insists on buying quality food products from local suppliers. “We buy from local food distributors, mainly American Foods. Our suppliers are chosen by quality first, then by price. We do not sacrifice quality over cost at Lonzalo’s,” he explains. Using these quality ingredients, every succulent Italian preparation is made fresh every day! of West PascoStrikes Again! Everyone cheered “You’ve Been Mobbed”, as Cash Mob West Pasco entered Your Family Butcher Shop. The group of local residents and small business owners surprised this local, family owned butcher shop to see what they had to offer. Many had never heard of this local business prior to this visit but assured us that they will now be back often. The customer service was second to none and the food was fresh and delicious. The shop had a showcase of sausage in every flavor imaginable, made fresh daily with no preservatives. “The blueberry maple sausages were my favorite”, exclaimed Debbie, founder of Cash Mob.
