INTRODUCING
The leviTaTion Queen Bead™ ColleCTion With the Magic of Galatea Mono-Pole™ Magnets
Galatea’s Levitation Queen Beads are imbued with a power all their own. Never before have beads been so elegantly and precisely spaced, creating a beautifully modern look with a minimum number of beads. How’s it done? Galatea’s patented Mono-Pole north-to-north facing magnets provide a naturally occurring space between each bead. All magnets have a north and south end, which attract one another. Galatea’s Mono-Pole magnet bead cores are engineered so only the north ends come into contact with one another, providing a natural space as the ends pull away from each other. Available in hand carved pearls, silver and glass. Levitation Queen Beads will always look and perform perfectly on a necklace, bracelet or a pair of earrings.

A Hometown Story
A Taste of Sweet Success at Sugardarlings Cones and Cupcakes
J
essica Beebe, owner and baker at Sugardarlings Cones and Cupcakes, has been serving up the sweet stuff since February of 2010. She initially opened with the idea of an affordable neighborhood ice cream shop that caters to the budget of the average family. The cupcakes were intended to be a side item, or an alternative to ice cream. But luck was on her side when she chose to open her shop the week of Valentine’s Day. Jess sold over 300 cupcakes her first week in business baking them in a toaster oven! With such overwhelming demand for her cupcakes, Jess upgraded to a baking oven and now offers between 15-20 different varieties of cupcakes every day, baking fresh ones throughout the day just to keep up with demand. Sugardarlings Award Winning Peanut Butter Smores was just recently honored "The Best Cupcake" in St.Pete, locally Sugardarlings was voted Best Desert, Best Kept Secret and Best Bakery in the Suncoast. That is what we call SWEET SUCCESS!! Jessica worked for The Innisbrook Golf Resort in Tarpon Springs Florida for over 13 years; Jess was versatile in many of the daily resort operation but primarily focused on Food & Beverage which was her passion. Jessica mentioned that she never thought the demand of her sweet treats would require her to bake full time and say goodbye to a job she was so loyal to. Word of mouth and a Facebook page has spread the news, as well as the popularity of such TV shows as DC cupcakes on TLC and Cupcake Wars on Food Network. Jess is serving customers from as far away as Miami! One of her regular customers is a pregnant woman who craves these delicious cupcakes so much she sends her husband in every day to get the flavor she has her heart set on that day! Jess has made cupcakes for weddings, baby showers, luncheons and birthday parties, including a very sweet Sweet 16!
Sugardarlings can even accommodate large school and church orders. Jess makes many tasty flavors, but one specialty item sure to get a laugh from customers caught by surprise is her Savory Cupcakes like Sweet Corn & Pulled Pork or her Yummy Chicken & Waffles, or give the popular maple bacon a try. Some more conventional favorites include chocolate/chocolate, red velvet, chocolate/peanut butter, and cappuccino, but the menu changes daily so come by often. Every day is kid’s day though because Jess loves to loan them an apron and let them decorate their own cupcakes. The adults can sit at a table and eat their ice cream or cupcakes with a cup of coffee while the kids color, draw on the chalkboard, or admire the “wall art” contributed by the students of area schools. Sugardarlings’ fun, family atmosphere is important to Jess. Even the name of her business comes from a sweet family tradition starting when her Grandmother would tell the grand-children to “come over here darling and get some sugar”. Jess’s mother reminded her of Grandma’s saying and Jess began calling her own children “sugardarlings”. So when a road trip up the East Coast and many stops at Hershey’s Ice Cream inspired Jess to open an ice cream shop, what else could she possibly name it? So with such sweet success, what could Sugardarlings Cones and Cupcakes be planning next? Well, Jess will soon have Sugardarlings t-shirts in her store, and will be baking fresh cupcakes to be offered in boutiques in Clearwater and Safety Harbor (exact locations to be announced soon). Anyone wanting to sell Sugardarlings fresh delicious cupcakes in their boutique, deli, coffee shop, book store, or retail store can give Jess a call at 727-376-2253, or come by and taste test some of her creations at 8511 Old County Road 54 New Port Richey and New Location Open Mid September In Palm Harbor/East Lake Area. Sugardarlings Cones and Cupcakes is open from 12:00pm-9:00pm Mon-Sat and can be reached by email at sugardarlings@hotmail.com.

Reasons to SHOP, EAT and HAVE FUN Locally IT’s YOUR HOME!
To strengthen local economy: Studies have shown that buying from an independent, locally owned business, significantly raises the number of times your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms—continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community.
Keep your community unique: Where we shop, where we eat and have fun—all of it makes our community home.
Increase jobs: Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally in the United Sates of America.
Invest in community: Local businesses are owned by people who live in the community, are less likely to leave, and are more invested in the community’s future.
Encourage local prosperity: A growing body of economic research shows that in an increasingly homogenized world, entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character. Reduce environmental impact: Locally owned businesses can make more local purchases requiring less transportation and generally set up shop in town or city centers as opposed to developing on the fringe. This means contributing less to greenhouse gas emissions, sprawl, congestion, habitat loss and pollution. Support community groups: Non-profit organizations receive an average 250% more support from smaller business owners than they do from large businesses.
Get better service: Local businesses often hire people with a better understanding of the products they are selling and take more time to get to know customers.
Put your taxes to good use: Local businesses in town centers require comparatively little infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services as compared to nationally owned stores entering the community. Buy what you want, not what someone wants you to buy: A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term. A multitude of small businesses, each selecting products based not on a national sales plan but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers, guarantees a much broader range of product choices. Residential • Automotive • Commercial • Protects your home from sun damage • Saves on energy costs • Reduces air conditioning costs, while increasing interior comfort • Increases privacy and safety • Holds glass shards together in the event of accident, weather event, vandalism, or break-in Professionally Installing Quality Window Film in Tampa Bay since 1983
olar energy through a window is transferred or transmitted by infrared waves. Radiant energy is converted to heat when it strikes people or objects. If you block the transfer of this energy you keep it from turning into heat because it never strikes an object. Window film interrupts the transfer of this energy by reflecting the energy back. Transmission is basically the percentage of Solar energy (UV + Visible Light + Near Infrared) that can passes through a window. Reflection is the ratio of solar energy reflected back to the source, expressed as a percentage. Absorption is the percentage of solar energy absorbed to that of the total solar energy. With solar window film installed on the inside of a window, the proportions are changed dramatically, with reflected energy and absorption increasing. This corresponds to a reduction in solar heat transmitted inside the room or the automobile. The properties of the window film dramatically influence how and in what way transmission, reflection and absorption change.
727-372-5448
In addition to the energy saving benefits, solar window film can increase thermal comfort, reduce glare, while at the same time rejecting 99% of the UV radiation reducing fading and the risk of skin cancer. www.solargard.com

Protect Your Home this Hurricane Season
I
t has been many decades since the Tampa Bay area has taken a direct hit by a hurricane. However, residents of Florida know that hurricanes are a fact of life, and even outer bands of these violent storms can make a significant impact on lives and homes if left unprotected. Home Safety Solutions has been adding layers of storm protection to homes in the Tampa Bay area since 1986. Owners, Russ and Pam Bohen, have made it their life’s work, because they understand the importance of protecting your family and your possessions. Safe, reliable, storm protection is the Bohen’s primary concern. Products like hurricane panels are available in metal, clear and fabric, to offer maximum levels of protection at minimal costs. Wind screens and shutters can be installed and customized—horizontally or vertically—to satisfy individual needs for protection while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of residential and commercial properties.
3M window films, one of their most popular products, designed to reduce the harmful effects of the sun, providing solutions for problems such as glare, faded furnishings, room comfort, and energy savings. All these benefits are combined into one product, with a warranty backed by one of the world's most respected companies. Because the window film products provide energy savings, your investment helps pay for itself. Hurricane season is upon us. When the meteorologist forecasts a spaghetti model of a storm’s potential for impacting our area, rest assured, Home Safety Solutions has what it takes to protect you and your family from the devastating effects of Mother Nature! To find out more about the products offered call 813-814-2236, or to view the video demonstration featuring Simonton Windows, please visit www.hurricanesos.com.

Many companies falsely claim to be licensed and insured. If an employee of one these companies gets hurt or property is damaged, homeowners insurance may deny the claim leaving the homeowner liable. Popular community feedback sites do not check license, insurance and criminal records which can give you a false sense of security. Unscrupulous companies and individuals have already learned how to game the community ratings sites by having family and friends sign up and enter postings about what a great company they are and how terrible their competitors are.

Companies with the Seal of Approval can initiate an email (called SEAL-MAIL) from AsktheSeal.com. Decorate a room efficiently by following these rules By Ann Alderson, Home Staging Expert
I
f you're going to decorate a room yourself and don't know where to start, check out these tips for making over a room as systematically as possible. (Note: this is for people who have already picked out their color scheme, furniture, fabrics, etc.) Line Up the Pros Make sure you have a skilled electrician, painter, and whatever other pro you might need on hand. You want to make sure you have the best person for the job and that rarely happens when you randomly choose. Do the Floors First Always deal with the floors first. Staining or sanding a floor, or even taking up and putting down carpet will cause at least a little damage to the walls. Limit the number of touch ups you have to do by waiting to paint until after the floors are done. Install Cabinets Before Painting If you're doing a kitchen or bathroom you'll also want to hang cabinets before painting. Once this is done you can paint the entire room. It's best to do all the painting at once so start with the trim and then tackle the walls (starting at the top and working your way down).
Hang Fixtures Once the entire room is painted you can hang the light fixtures (such as chandeliers and sconces). It's best to do this before anything else goes in the room so that nothing will get in the
way (such as drapery fabric). Once all the lighting has been installed you can install the window treatments. Arrange Furniture It's always best to have an arrangements planned before bringing the furniture in, but if you find it doesn't work as well as you had hoped don't be afraid to move things around and play with the furniture placement. Bring In Accessories Artwork, lamps, decorative objects like candlesticks, books, and pillows are all important elements. They're what truly make a room personal, so have fun with this and use these items to show your personality and celebrate your home! Displaying Children’s Artwork
A
new school year can mean lots of new artwork to display around your home. And while the fridge is nice, it’s fun to create a space that’s a bit more special. Here’s a simple idea from Less-Than-Perfect Life of Bliss: Purchase inexpensive frames from the dollar or thrift store, and paint them to match the décor of the room or rooms in which you would like to display your child’s art work. Hang the empty frames where you choose, then place a binder clip on a tack for ease of rotating your art gallery! Another suggestion: use a plain or painted corkboard as a replacement for the back of the frame and use push pins to display work.
For your storage needs, contact Mark & Lynn at 375.2920, nprichey@southernselfstorage. com, or visit their website: www.southernselfstorage.com.

REAL ESTATE STORY
Understanding Capital Gains in Real Estate When you sell a stock, you owe taxes on your gain — the difference between what you paid for the stock and what you sold it for. The same holds true when selling a home (or a second home), but there are some special considerations.
3. Your home’s adjusted cost basis: _______________________
How to Calculate Gain
4. Your capital gain: _______________________
In real estate, capital gains are based not on what you paid for the home, but on its adjusted cost basis. To calculate, follow these steps:
Subtract the adjusted cost basis from the amount your home sells for to get your capital gain.
1. Purchase price: _______________________ The purchase price of the home is the sale price, not the amount of money you actually contributed at closing.
The total of your purchase price and adjustments is the adjusted cost basis of your home.
A Special Real Estate Exemption for Capital Gains Since 1997, up to $250,000 in capital gains ($500,000 for a married couple) on the sale of a home is exempt from taxation if you meet the following criteria:
2. Total adjustments: _______________________
• You have lived in the home as your principal residence for two out of the last five years.
To calculate this, add the following:
• You have not sold or exchanged another home during the two years preceding the sale.
• Cost of the purchase — including transfer fees, attorney fees, and inspections, but not points you paid on your mortgage. • Cost of sale — including inspections, attorney fees, real estate commission, and money you spent to fix up your home just prior to sale. • Cost of improvements — including room additions, deck, etc. Note here that improvements do not include repairing or replacing something already there, such as putting on a new roof or buying a new furnace.
• You meet what the IRS calls “unforeseen circumstances,” such as job loss, divorce, or family medical emergency.

THE STYLE FILE
Back to School and Defining your Style!
T
he great Rei Kawakubo said this about “Fashion” in the September issue of the WSJ Magazine; “Fashion is something you attach to yourself, put on, and through that interaction the meaning of it is born.” This is so important when it comes to defining your own individual style; especially for teenagers in school. Helping our children feel comfortable in their own skin is monumental to their development. Does it mean that you have to dress them in expensive clothes? Absolutely not. It means helping them express themselves and what it is they want to say to the world when they walk out the door in the morning. Just like us as adults, when we feel great about how we look in a new outfit in the mirror, it’s reflected in our walk. It’s seen by others in our confident smile and body language. Giving this feeling to our children sets them up for success! We want them to be kind, compassionate, giving, loving, funny, brilliant, creative, and the list goes on. But when we give them the skin on the outside to match how they feel and want to express themselves from the inside, then a positive connection is born. We can do this by asking our
teens what it is they really want to convey to others. Particularly when it comes to their clothing. Are they looking to show that they are neat, clean, poised and polished? Or are they wanting sassy, fun, trendy and to stand out a little? Maybe they are the kind that wants to give off that relaxed, low maintenance, easy going approach. And some even want to let everyone know that they need attention, help, and support. Start by looking at where they are now and how they dress. Then ask them! “If you could start over today, and money wasn’t an object—how would dress? What would be the message you want others to receive?” Then you go from there. Each person has a silent voice that wants to be heard without even speaking. Your body language and what you wear is that voice.

Keratin Hair Treatment – The Answer to Healthy, Silky, Shiny…Beautiful Hair! What is Keratin Hair Treatment? It is a process that eliminates frizz and smoothes hair for up to 20 weeks without dangerous chemicals making your hair healthy, silky, shiny and revitalized. Hair is more manageable, smoother and easier to style.
Hair is more manageable, smoother and easier to style. It can be used on all types of hair including color treated and chemically processed hair. The results are absolutely amazing!
How does it work? Keratin is simply a protein which is found in hair and nails. Keratin treatment is used to repair damages that have affected the hair. This dream therapy is a salon process where a professional hair stylist basically infuses natural keratin protein into the hair’s cuticle. The Keratin is bonded into the cuticle by the heat of the flat iron to relax the hair’s sub-cuticle layer. This creates manageable, frizz-free hair and instantly adds amazing shine, silkiness and condition to the hair. How is it done? The process is simple but time consuming. The stylist will shampoo the hair, apply the keratin product to wet hair, blow dry with the product still in, and then flat iron the hair, small pieces at a time. Once the hair is treated, it needs to remain straight and dry for 72 hours.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy
here seems to be an enormous amount of confusion in the media and among our patients about what bioidentical hormones are. A “bioidentical hormone is not a synthetically produced hormone. Bioidentical hormones are those in which the main ingredient is derived from an animal, plant or mineral source thus giving these hormones their reputation for being natural. Plants in nature produce molecules that are structurally identical to those which humans produce in our bodies. These natural or bioidentical hormones are extracted in laboratories from plants such as soy beans or yams. These plant molecules act in the human body just like the hormones we produce naturally. The body sees bioidentical hormones as indistinguishable from the hormones made from its own glands such as ovaries or testicles. Non- bioidentical hormones are different in structure from the naturally occurring hormones found in our bodies. That may be the reason for unwanted side effects sometimes experienced with non-bioidentical hormones made by pharmaceutical companies. This includes the urine of pregnant mares which has been used as a source of estrogen. This may be natural, coming from an animal source, but it is not bioidentical. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for both men and women has been available for many years. Patients are often not aware of the many uses of bioidentical hormones. Bioidentical estrogens can be used to treat premenstrual syndrome, menopause,
by Dr. Gerard Cappiello
infertility, postpartum depression and vaginal dryness. It has even been known to treat more serious conditions such as endometriosis. Conditions such as Crohn's disease Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis and Fibromyalgia may also be treated with dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Oxytocin is recently been found to be a neuro-hormonal entity that, if deficient, can interfere with the female orgasmic process. Andropause or "male menopause" is a decline in male hormones such as testosterone. This problem in men can be treated naturally with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Testosterone can be effectively delivered with pellets that are simply implanted and then slowly released over 3 months. Testosterone therapy can also be given in the form of a cream that is absorbed through the skin. These treatments have been found to be relatively free from side effects while significantly improving the well- being of our patients. At the Rinnova Med-Surgical and Laser Institute we are able to provide bioidentical hormones that mimic the hormones found naturally in your own body. These natural hormones are especially formulated for each individual patient's needs. Please call our office at 727-942-7000 to see Dr. Cappiello, board certified OB/GYN, to find out if you are a candidate for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. You can also visit our website at www.myrinnova.com for more information.

ife Force, also known as “Chi Energy”, is everywhere. It is present in our bodies allowing us to function, and we are surrounded by it in our homes.
experience? Examine and assess exactly how it makes you “feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel”. The answer will come to you whether to hang on to it or not!
This energy is powerful flowing in and around our homes and workplace, and can affect our lives and sense of well-being. This concept originated many centuries ago in ancient civilizations, including China. The belief and concept is that energy can flow or stagnate based on the shape and form of our environment, and how harmonious or chaotic our environment is on any given day.
According to the Black Sect, and many various Feng Shui practices, there are eight areas in our home in the simplest form, such as Career, Fame, Wealth, Family, Knowledge, Partnership, Children, and Helpful People. These are all areas that can be improved by implementing simple little cures, that have a tremendous affect on our surroundings, and how we feeeeeeeeeeeeel in them. It does not have to be complicated.
As we invest in improving our lives through personal growth and development, it is absolutely critical that we look at our homes, as well. Our homes are not just dwellings to provide shelter, but can also be the “oasis” in which we look forward to waking up and within which we taking refuge. This environment reflects who we are, with a flow of energy that is welcoming, peaceful, harmonious, comfortable, and loving through sight, sound, and serenity. As a Professional Certified Feng Shui Practitioner, it has been extremely fascinating to facilitate the “cures” accompanied by a “houseblessing”. House-blessings with prayer can invoke various manifestations, whether it is for the improvement in a love relationship, a better career, improved health and more. Simply clearing clutter is the first recommendation for everyone, in every home and workplace. PERIOD!!!!! A cluttered home/equals a cluttered mind. Have you ever noticed when you clean your office or your desk how much better you feel? It really works! Storing stuff under the bed is a big NO, NO! Remove it immediately! Take time to sort through it and discard it if it’s not needed. Get rid of stuff that you don’t absolutely love. Stuff from a former life
Simple things like adding fountains with running water will keep the chi flowing in the wealth area. Cater to your olfactory sense with essential oils, candles, or fragrant baths. Our sense of hearing will be ever so powerfully affected with sounds of wind chimes, singing birds, or sound scapes from the music that taps into the pit of your soul. Improve the sense of romance with fresh flowers or decorative accents in the partnership area. Besides investing in the personal development of your own harmonious surroundings is fun! The more fun we create in our lives allows for more wonderful healing energies to be generated throughout every single area of our lives. Happy “Feng Shuing!”

Why Your Business Needs Visibility on the Internet!
E
very day more people search the Internet for the products and services they are interested in purchasing. In order for your company to capture a share of that business, your company must be visible in the search engine results of the three major search engines, Google, Yahoo and Bing (Microsoft). Since Google captures about 70% of the search engine use and more than 85% of searchers never look past page one of the search results, it is important for your company to show up on the first page of Google to receive the maximum amount of traffic to your business’s website. In order for your company to rank on the first page of the search engine results you need to have search engine optimization (SEO) work done for your business website. Choosing the optimum keyword phrases to use when performing the SEO work is critically important. Additionally, selecting the right web locations to
submit your website to also needs to be considered carefully. It is important to submit your website to high ranking websites rather than just using a high volume approach. This is a matter of quality rather than quantity when choosing the right places to support your company’s SEO efforts. Websitedzyn will perform a detailed keyword analysis of your business’s website to determine the optimum keyword phrases to use for your SEO work. We only submit your company’s website to high ranking website sources and only use acceptable SEO industry practices when working on your SEO project to avoid being unlisted by Google. We use a manual submittal process rather than automated software to avoid downgrading or blacklisting by Google. Let Websitedzyn perform a detailed study of your current web visibility and recommend a course of action to get your company’s website on the first page of Google.

Fresh Seafood Daily at
DIMITRI’S ON THE WATER
T
he ambience of dining on the water can only be enhanced with the freshest seafood, delivered daily by our local fishermen—and women – and served exquisitely prepared-to-order at Dimitri’s on the Water!
“Only the love of food can lead you here.”
Restaurateur and Executive Chef, Demetrios Salivaras explains, “It’s all about quality and buying local. We want to sustain our local fishermen, while providing our customers with the most delicious domestic seafood. Our commitment is to keep it within our community and support our local economy.” Seafood is seasonal. Different species of whole fish arrive daily, and Dimitri displays the catch of day in a showcase between the dining room and kitchen. You have the option to select the one you want and how you want it prepared! Currently, whole fish featured at Dimitri’s include Domestic Black Grouper, American Red Snapper, and Hog Fish. Domestic shrimp are always served at Dimitri’s, never farm-raised or flown-in!

Plus, “If you hook it, they’ll cook it,” any way you want! In fact, you can dock your boat right alongside Dimitri’s and come in for a cold beer, refreshing cocktail or scrumptious meal after a relaxing day on the water! Don’t forget to make your holiday reservations now. Dimitri’s on the Water can accommodate any size party, but plan to book early, so they will be ready when you are!

Trinity’s Old English Pub
C
ricketers 54 is not a chain restaurant, but an affordable, customer-friendly pub located right in the heart of Trinity. Taking ownership in 2005, Joyce and Frank Adams is proud that they renovated the establishment and added pool tables and darts to enhance the casual atmosphere, which also includes NTN Trivia and a 300,000 song jukebox. At this full-service bar, you’ll also find the best fish & chips in town! Pool leagues are available, as well as the NFL Sunday Ticket. Drink specials occur daily at Cricketers 54, and you can pair your favorite beverage with something scrumptious from their pub-style menu. The kitchen is open Thursday through Sunday. The Adams favorite part of their business is “All of the people we get to meet and having them become part of our ever growing family.” And that’s how they view Trinity: as a growing community based on family values, of which they are glad to be part. The staff at Cricketers 54 has been together since opening the pub in 2005, and share this family attitude with all of their customers, so they feel like the pub is “their place.” Cricketers 54 is located at 8525 Old CR 54 in Trinity. SAFETY TIPS

W
OW!….A new school year has begun! It’s always exciting getting started with the school year, but as you prepare your child for his or her time in the classroom, remember, there is more to getting ready for school than just buying supplies. Accidents can be prevented if parents are on the lookout for potential hazards. To help your keep your kids free from harm, here are some safety tips from SAFE KIDS, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. As children are returning to school, many of them will be spending time home alone after school until their parents get home from work.
What Parents Can Do to Keep Kids Safe at Home: • It's a good idea to have them call you at work to check in when they get home! • Discuss if they are ready to use the oven, stove or microwave and if they understand how to be fire safe. • Posting an emergency phone list where children can see it. Include 9-1-1, parent's work and cell numbers and the numbers for anyone else who is close and trusted such as a neighbor or friend. • Identify neighbors whose home your child can go to in case of an Education is not emergency that requires them to leave home. Let the neighbor know the preparation for life; child is home alone and may call if needed. education is life itself. • Practice emergency plans with your kids so they know what to do in the event of fire, injury, or other emergencies. Write the plan down ~John Dewey and make sure the child knows where it is. • Make sure the first aid kit is stocked and stored where your children can find it; keep it out of reach of young children. Red Cross babysitter training can enhance their safety skills. • Let children know where the flashlights are. Make sure that the batteries are fresh, and that the child knows how to use them. • Remove or safely store in locked areas dangerous items like guns, ammunition, knives, hand tools, power tools, razor blades, scissors, and other objects that can cause injury. • Make sure potential poisons like detergents, polishes, pesticides, care-care fluids, lighter fluid and lamp oils are stored in locked cabinets or out of the reach of children. • Make sure medicine is kept in a locked storage place or out of the reach of children. • Make sure at least one approved smoke alarm is installed and operating on each level of the home. •Limit the time the child spends in front of the television or computer. Activate parental controls. Use programs that limit the sites children can visit, restrict chat sites and allow parents to monitor online activity. • Never schedule appointments for service representatives, such as a TV cable installer, without an adult being present.
ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT AND SELF ESTEEM By Myron Graff, D.M.D., P.A.
O
rthodontic treatment results in straighter teeth and a more pleasant smile but its ultimate goal is to remove impediments to developing excellent self esteem. It’s difficult enough to be an adolescent with a pleasant smile, but extra tough if you’re embarrassed by your appearance. Teen magazines devote countless pages to improved appearance (hair, skin, nails, clothes, etc) but these are easily correctable issues. The more important concerns are more timely and difficult to correct. Orthodontic care frequently takes 18 or more months, but you receive a lifetime of benefit. What more valuable legacy could a parent give their child than a boost in self esteem? Smiles by Graff, providing State-Of-The-Art professional orthodontic services for over 35 years.

Safety Tips for Pets By Gail Armstrong SPCA Suncoast, Executive Director
J
ust like the rest of your family, your pets count on you to help keep them safe. Some safety tips to remember are:
Many dogs love to hang their head outside car windows, but there’s nothing to protect them when they do. Have you ever had a rock fly up and chip or crack your windshield? Rocks, bugs and various types of debris can hit your dog’s head or eyes and may result in a serious injury. Dog’s can burn their foot pads on hot pavement or metal surfaces so be careful on streets, sidewalks, boat decks and car beds. Look for shade or grass or carry a wet towel to stand on to protect doggy feet.

Many cats are independent and love to roam outside. Unfortunately this can be dangerous for even the most self sufficient cat, as well as their families. Diseases such as ringworm, scabies, cat scratch fever and rabies are in the environment and can be transmitted to humans. Also free roaming cats may come in contact with the Feline Leukemia Virus and the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus which can be life threatening to cats. Fleas, ticks, hookworms and roundworms are parasites that may be brought into the home from outside. Outside predators such as dogs, coyotes, snakes, other cats and even hawks, as well as cars, make life dangerous for your outside kitty.
