CELEBRATING
INDIANA
1
On January 20, 2020, Indiana University will celebrate its 200th anniversary and all of us at IU Auditorium are excited to create memorable experiences throughout this milestone season. The 2019–2020 season has something for everyone, featuring shows that have been audience favorites through the years, new productions never before seen in Bloomington, and the array of connections that this magnificent institution has worldwide with the best in arts and entertainment. For the first time in our history, IU Auditorium will present two weeklong runs of Tony Award-winning and legendary Broadway shows: our audiences will have the opportunity to see the “the funniest musical of all time” when The Book of Mormon premieres in Bloomington in October, then the beloved Les Misérables returns to the Auditorium in the spring. We are also presenting additional Bloomington premieres of highly-acclaimed Broadway productions in 2019–2020, including the award-winning musicals The Color Purple, Waitress, and Beautiful – The Carole King Musical.

Threaded throughout our season are numerous ties to IU and our stage. The first performance of the season features IU graduate Edgar Meyer along with longtime collaborator Béla Fleck; Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance Visiting Scholar and IU alumna Harriet Leve is co-producer of both STOMP and Beautiful; 3

and Carole King herself performed at the Auditorium in 1976. With our Trevor Noah performances, we will be harkening back to the earliest traditions of Homecoming when IU welcomed legendary comedians such as Red Skelton, Bob Newhart, and Bob Hope. And, of course, we will continue to carry on our time-honored annual holiday shows with performances by the IU-born a cappella group Straight No Chaser, IU alum Dennis James, and the IU Singing Hoosiers. The Bicentennial also serves as an opportunity for us to look ahead, so in addition to the host of Broadway premieres, IU is also serving as a proud co-commissioner of the newest work by preeminent modern dance choreographer Bill T. Jones. We are also providing the opportunity for students in the Jacobs School of Music to again study and rehearse alongside the renowned Minnesota Orchestra during their three-day residency, modeling for our students their future as professional musicians. In fact, the whole of our educational outreach opportunities will continue to expand with this season, as we will be creating even more connections with visiting artists in order to broaden and deepen the experiences of our entire community. We at IU Auditorium would like to express our gratitude to the Office of the Bicentennial for their support of this exceptional season. We hope you will join us in this year-long celebration of IU!

Béla Fleck is widely considered to be the world’s premier banjo player. FEBRUARY 22 SATURDAY 8 P.M. “Some choreographers are born dancemakers whose genius manifests in the steps themselves. And some choreographers are geniuses who just happen to dance for their primary mode of expression. Bill T. Jones is of the latter variety, and the dance world is fortunate to have him.” – San Francisco Chronicle The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company was born in 1982 out of an 11-year collaboration between Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane (1948–1988). During this time, they redefined the duet and foreshadowed issues of identity, form, and social commentary that would change the face of American dance. The Company has performed worldwide in over 200 cities in 40 countries on every major continent and is recognized as one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the dance-theatre world. IU Auditorium is a proud co-commissioner of Bill T. Jones’ newest work: On The Water. Opening with solo movement to the iconic words of Dr. Martin Luther King, this work explores the relationship of loneliness and group identity, and evolves to an ensemble of 100 professional and local community dancers. Bringing back and co-commissioning this work by Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane Company would not have been possible without the Office of the Bicentennial. This performance will be a momentous occasion as part of the Bicentennial celebration.

APRIL 17–19 FRIDAY, 8 P.M. SATURDAY, 2 P.M. & 8 P.M. SUNDAY, 2 P.M. “Beautiful is a joyous celebration!” – Entertainment Weekly Long before she was the chart-topping music legend Carole King, she was Carol Klein, a Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager, and by the time she reached her 20s, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock n’ roll. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. For five years, Beautiful, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Carole King musical, has thrilled Broadway with the inspiring true story of one woman’s remarkable journey from teenage songwriter to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Featuring over two dozen pop classics, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman,” this crowd-pleasing international phenomenon is filled with the songs you remember and a story you’ll never forget! Carole herself performed some of these songs live on the IU Auditorium stage over two nights in 1976 and having this musical as part of our celebration of IU’s Bicentennial commemorates a music legend that graced our stage over 40 years ago.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I ORDER TICKETS ONLINE? Yes, online ordering is available via IUauditorium.com.
HOW DO I BECOME A SUBSCRIBER? You can become a subscriber by purchasing at least one ticket to five or more event titles. Along with other benefits (see subscriber benefits, page 33), becoming a subscriber is one way to increase your Loyalty Point total—helping you get the best available seats. Patrons ordering at least one ticket to one to four event titles before our public on-sale date are considered pre-orders. Pre-ordering ensures good seats, even if you only want to attend a few shows, in addition to other perks. (Note: pre-orders will be filled in August in the order in which they are received.)
WHAT ARE LOYALTY POINTS, AND HOW DO I EARN THEM? Loyalty Points are earned through subscription and donation history with IU Auditorium, and are how we reward our loyal patrons with better seating selections. Loyalty Point-holding patrons’ orders are filled before new subscriptions, pre-orders, and the general public in descending order—meaning the greater number of points you have, the sooner your seats are filled (see Loyalty Points, page 31). For more specifics on our Loyalty Point system, please visit IUauditorium.com/loyalty or call the Box Office at (812) 855-1103.
WHAT IF THE SEATING AREA I SELECT IS SOLD OUT? If this happens, you will be contacted by our Box Office staff and provided with additional options. If you are placed in a lower-priced seating level, the difference in price will be refunded.
WHAT IF I EXCHANGE A TICKET FOR DIFFERENT TICKET OF HIGHER VALUE? If a ticket is exchanged for that of a higher value, you will be responsible for paying the difference in price.
WHAT KINDS OF ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES ARE OFFERED BY THE AUDITORIUM? We strive to accommodate all of our guests. If you require special accommodation, including wheelchair-accessible seating, amplification headsets, large-print or braille programs, audio description, or ASL services, please contact our Box Office at (812) 855-1103. Also, space in front of IU Auditorium around Showalter Fountain has been designated as accessible parking for those with state-issued disability tags. For more information on our accessibility offerings, please contact Guest Services at (812) 855-5739.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE IU BLOOMINGTON STUDENT DISCOUNT? Each IU Bloomington student with a current, valid IUB student ID may redeem one student-priced ticket per event for their personal use. Simply ask for a studentpriced ticket at our box office window, or mark the student-priced option when purchasing online. Although students need not be present at the time of purchase, they will be required to present their student ID upon entry. Those without ID may be asked to return to the Box Office in order to upgrade their ticket for the general public price.

I’M A STUDENT, BUT NOT AN IU BLOOMINGTON STUDENT. CAN I STILL RECEIVE A STUDENT DISCOUNT? We’re sorry, but only students enrolled on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University may use a student-price ticket to gain admission. For our family-friendly shows, students and children 12 and under can purchase tickets at discounted price.
CAN I SIT WITH MY FRIENDS? Yes. There are two ways in which you can place this type of order. You can simply order all tickets on a single order form with one method of payment. Alternatively, if you are a subscriber (see page 33 for subscriber benefits) you may submit up to four order forms together with separate methods of payment. Each order is charged an additional $10 service fee.
CAN I PAY BY BURSAR BILLING ONLINE AND OVER THE PHONE? Yes. As an IUB student, you may charge tickets to your bursar.
HOW DO I PAY USING IU PAYROLL DEDUCTION? The minimum order for IU payroll deduction is $100, and all orders wishing to pay via this method must be received by August 31, 2019. Simply check the Payroll Deduction box on the order form or online.
