What to Expect New Student Orientation is a required one-day summer program where you’ll make important decisions about your upcoming academic year while getting to know other new Hoosiers, current students, and IU Bloomington faculty and staff.

Here are the important things to know about planning for and attending your orientation program:

✭ About the Program. New Student Orientation is

required of all new transfer students. It gives you a foundation for your IU Bloomington experience— you’ll learn about services, programs, and academics while also registering for classes, visiting classrooms, and learning IU Bloomington traditions.

Make your online reservation at the FY(Me) tab of our website fye.indiana.edu/fyme. Remember to provide a parent or guardian email address so we can copy them on your confirmation. Read your email confirmation carefully. It includes details about the things you must do before NSO, like completing your Academic Planning Worksheet and Health History information.

Help for People with Disabilities If you or a guest will need special accommodations for a disability or mobility issue during New Student Orientation, please let us know on your reservation. We will contact you to help you make arrangements.

If you plan to live on campus, apply for housing. Room assignments are made in order of your application date. See rps.indiana.edu for details. Sign up for one of our awesome (and optional) IUBeginnings adventures. It’s a good way to meet other new transfer students right before your semester starts. Need to Stay Overnight? Do your travel plans require you to arrive on campus early or stay an extra day for your one-day transfer orientation? For an additional fee, students can stay at Wright Residence Center and parents at Willkie Residence Center. You don’t need to reserve a room ahead of time—simply check in when you arrive on campus.

Orientation Fees The student fee is $135. The parent/guest fee is $20 for the first person and $10 for each additional person. These nonrefundable fees include lunch as well as your CampusAccess Card (student ID). Fees do not include overnight housing costs.

You can also take a variety of optional exams online or on campus the evening before your program.
