If you have a diagnosed disability that affects your performance on timed tests and you have received testing modifications in high school or at your previous institution, you’ll need to specifically request modifications when you make your reservation.

Foreign Language Placement Exam All students who have studied a foreign language for at least one year are required to take this test at orientation. The foreign language you test for during orientation does not need to be the same foreign language you plan to study at IU Bloomington. In some cases, foreign language credit may be awarded. The following foreign language exams are offered during the January program: • French • Italian • Latin • Spanish • German • Japanese • Russian

Optional Exams You may also take additional exams for placement or credit purposes. You may take these exams even if you have already taken AP exams in high school. Biology Exam The biology exam is offered for potential credit. The exam is administered on campus and will be offered in the morning before your orientation program begins. If you plan on taking the optional biology exam, you will want to plan your travel accordingly. Specific exam times will be included in your confirmation email. Online Chemistry Placement Exam Students who are planning to major in premed chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and other sciences must take the Online Chemistry Placement Exam (OCPE). The exam is administered online and should be taken as soon as possible prior to your arrival on campus. A link with additional information about the OCPE can be found in the online reservation system.

Orientation testing modifications are based on the accommodations you received at your previous school. There is no guarantee that you will receive these modifications as an IU Bloomington student. According to university policies and procedures, students requesting disability support services for the academic year must submit an additional application to the Office of Disability Services for Students (DSS). Visit DSS at studentaffairs.iub.edu/dss for instructions. Sessions are often held in different locations on campus. If you need mobility assistance, you may want to bring along a family member or friend to help during the program, as we do not have staff assistants for this purpose. For requests to be considered they must be submitted to the Office of First Year Experience Programs no later than December 30, 2011.
