This fall, you’ll be a new student at Indiana University Bloomington.
We’ll help you get ready for the next chapter in your life at a New Student Orientation (NSO) program designed specifically for transfer students this summer. It’s your chance to explore IU’s beautiful campus, learn about support programs and resources, register for classes, and meet other new transfer students.
What to Expect New Student Orientation (NSO) for transfer students is a required one-day program. It will help you become familiar with campus, make important decisions about the upcoming year, and meet other new transfer students.
Here are some important things to know about planning for and attending your orientation program:
✭ Academics. You can attend a session about academic
expectations from an IU Bloomington professor and a group meeting with your advising area. Then you will meet one-on-one with an academic advisor to plan your course schedule and register for classes.
✭ Placement Exams. You will be required to take a math
skills assessment during NSO unless you have received IU Bloomington credit for Math-M211 or BOTH Math-M118 and Math M119. This is in addition to the foreign language placement exam you’ll take prior to arriving for orientation. You can also choose to arrive the night before and take the optional Biology or Calculus Placement Exam. Your confirmation will include details.
✭ Travel. You can start making your travel plans as soon
as you have your NSO email confirmation. Prior to your program date, and after May 20th, we’ll mail you a packet with final information and your temporary parking pass.
Orientation Fees The student fee is $135 and will appear on your first tuition bill from the Office of the Bursar. The guest fee is $20 for one person ($10 for each additional guest) and includes one set of materials. Lunch is provided for you and your paid guest(s). At check in, you can authorize guest fees to be added to yours and included on your first tuition bill.
Make Your Reservation Today We can’t wait to introduce you to Hoosier life at New Student Orientation. You can choose an orientation program from one of five dates in June and July reserved for transfer students. Here’s how to reserve your spot:
1 2 3
Log in to your personalized FY(Me) page. See the link at fye.indiana.edu. Follow the step-by-step directions. Be sure to provide an email address for your parent or guardian so we can copy them on your confirmation. Check your IU email for your reservation confirmation and read it carefully. It includes: • Information about the Foreign Language Placement Exam that you will take online prior to NSO. • Instructions for other tasks you must complete before NSO such as an Academic Planning Worksheet and Health History form. • Details about travel, parking, and accommodations for you and your guests during NSO.
Help for People with Disabilities
Special Program for Guests
If you or a guest will need special accommodations for a disability or mobility issue during your orientation, please let us know when you place your reservation. We will contact you to help you make arrangements.
Parents and family members are an important part of your IU experience. That’s why we hold orientation sessions just for them during your NSO program. They’ll get tips for helping you make the transition to IU and learn about the resources, programs, and support in place for your success.
Need to Stay Overnight? Do your travel plans require you to arrive on campus early or stay an extra day after orientation? For an additional fee, you can stay at the Union Street Residence Center and your parents can stay at Willkie Residence Center. You don’t need to reserve a room ahead of time— simply check in when you arrive on campus. Hotel information will also be included in your confirmation.
