Get ready for your New Student Orientation program—you’ll be a true Hoosier soon!
What to Bring to NSO with You Be sure to bring the following items with you: • Your 10-digit university ID number. Log in to FY(Me) to find this number. • Your IU username and passphrase so you can register for classes. • A photo ID so you can get your IU student ID card. • Comfortable shoes and clothing and a refillable water bottle. Be prepared to do some walking. • Your parking permit (attached) from this confirmation—it must be displayed on your dashboard. All vehicles parked on campus must have a permit. • One or more canned food items for the “IU Hoosiers Feed the Hungry” donation to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. In addition, be sure to check your to-do list in FY(Me).
Watch your IU email—several days prior to your program you will receive travel and parking updates, details regarding optional exam locations, and all final information.

New Student Orientation
Your Hoosier experience begins with New Student Orientation— and we can’t wait to meet you! Preparing for your transfer to IU Bloomington and NSO Log in to your FY(Me) pages at fye.indiana.edu to update your to-do list and to read through your full confirmation. It explains NSO fees, lodging options, testing, and other details. In particular, be sure to complete your: • Online placement exams. Most transfer students are required to take these. Follow the links in your online confirmation in FY(Me) to learn if you are exempt. • Academic planning steps listed at ud.indiana.edu/getting-started/new-students to best prepare you for your academic advising and course registration. • MoneySmarts financial literacy exercise. This is recommended for transfer students.
Your to-do list will help you access and track your progress on these and all items you need to complete. Parents may view a sample to-do list in the Resources pages of the FYE website.
Orientation Housing Want to be ready for the early NSO start? You’re welcome to stay on campus with other new students and our staff the evening before or after your program. NSO student housing is in Union Street Center; the housing fee of $42.50 per night (tax included) will be charged to your IU billing account after NSO by Residential Programs and Services. There is also an on-campus option for guests in Willkie Residence Center. No reservation is necessary. In addition, we have several partner hotels offering special NSO packages. Events and Schedule You’ll check in at Union Street Center, Cedar Hall at 8 a.m. Your NSO experience will take place in one day and we help you tailor it to best meet your needs.

After checking in and kicking off your day, you and your guests will be able to choose from topics such as internships, finances, resources for transfer students, and more. In addition, you will have a specific session designed to help you with the tools for academic and career planning at IU Bloomington.
Lunch will be provided for you and your NSO guests. Afternoon schedules are personalized for each student and vary according to area of study and academic advising appointments. In addition to meeting with an academic advisor, you will register for your first semester, get your student ID card, and visit the Resource Center. There will also be time to consult with financial aid and housing staff or explore the campus.

If you are in Bloomington the evening before your program and would like to connect with other students, contact our office ahead of time to inquire about evening activities. Be sure to mention your scheduled NSO date, as evening events may vary.

Disability Assistance If you or a guest need accommodations or have mobility limitations, be sure to connect with our office well in advance of your program for assistance in planning your time on campus. Parents/guests needing additional mobility support may want to bring a family member or friend, as we cannot provide a staff member for personal assistance.

Placement Exams REQUIRED: Math Placement Exam (MPE) and Foreign Language Placement Exam (FLPE): These exams are offered only online and must be taken prior to your orientation program and course registration. See details, including exemption information, and access exams on the FYE Orientation Testing page at fye.indiana.edu/ orientation/new-student/testing.cfm. OPTIONAL: Calculus Advanced Placement Test or Biology Departmental Exam: Both exams are offered during NSO and again in the early fall. If you plan to take either exam during NSO, please notify us at fye@indiana.edu and we will arrange your schedule to provide time during your NSO program. Chemistry Placement Exam: This exam is offered only online and is available now. Take this exam if you anticipate taking chemistry courses at IU. Access it through your online NSO confirmation page.
