Explore Life at IU Welcome! Every day you’ll find dozens—if not hundreds— of things to do on and around campus. And the start of your freshman year is one of the best times to find out what IU and Bloomington have to offer. Whether you’re interested in the whimsical or the helpful, the artsy or the sporty, we’ve got something for you. Read on to find just a small sampling of the essential upcoming events that will give you a taste of life at IU Bloomington.

Need something for your residence hall room? Start at the Hoosier to Hoosier Sale on August 22, where you may be able to furnish your entire room for less than $25. You’ll be shopping for a good cause while helping to keep reusable items out of the landfill. It’s never too early to build your resume. Attend Hoosier First Year Leadership Orientation on August 29, the Student Involvement Fair on September 2, and the Alternative Break Fair on September 3. Then, on September 17, kick off your career with the Fall Career and Internship Fair. Like to eat and sleep? Of course you do! Come to the IU Art Museum on September 10 for Big Red Eats Green, where you can try some local food, enjoy live music and art, and get involved in your local food community. And on September 21, get tips and tricks to increase your concentration and balance your mood when you attend Help Me Sleep!

Just Hang Out Your first weeks of college are a great time for meeting new people and maybe even reconnecting with your high school buddies. Whether you want to make new friends or keep the old, come hang out at some of the social events going on across campus.

Are you good at basketball, lousy at basketball, or somewhere in between? Doesn’t matter. Grab a friend and head to the Wildermuth Intramural Center for the Knockout Challenge on August 26. On September 4, get your glow on and kick off the football season with the Football Glow Run at Memorial Stadium. All new students are invited to participate in the annual Freshman Run-On occurring just before kickoff of the first IU home football game September 5.

Be Entertained The arts and entertainment scene in Bloomington is huge. Retro movies and cult classics? Check. Live music? Check. Live theatre? Check. Fine art? Check. No matter what you’re into, chances are you’ll find it here.

From movies to plays, from galleries to museum exhibits, you can dabble in a wide range of arts here in Bloomington. Party on at Wayne’s World at the IU Cinema on September 12 or check out some decidedly non-sparkly vampires at Lost Boys on September 25. Live theatre more your speed? See Hedda Gabler on September 30 or The Bull, the Moon and the Coronet of Stars on October 3. Plenty of exhibitions open this fall. On September 8, check out Monroe County @ Work, part of fall 2015 Themester. Attend the opening reception of For Love or Money at the Kinsey Institute on September 11. Or check out Coffee House Night at the IU Art Museum on September 17 or October 1—sample coffees from around the world, enjoy live music, and complete a gallery scavenger hunt during extended museum hours. Stroll the Downtown Bloomington Gallery Walk any time of the year. You’ll find a wealth of artwork in nine distinct galleries whose atmospheres range from sophisticated to funky.
