Networking Improves Relationships When people use the term networking it comes with the connotation that you are “selling something”. This is unfortunate because you are selling something to someone every day of your life. Whether you are trying to convince that perfect woman to say “yes” to a date or marriage” you or you are trying to convince your parents to let you stay out on a school night. You are networking in one form or another.

Guest on KIVA B&C Talk Radio Iolande:
Guest on IVA Radio Presents... Just wanted to thank you for having me on your show. I think you offer a very valuable platform for expression and I wish you the best. Much success Anthony Jones ABC Solutions www.buildabusinessworkshop.com
First, I want to thank you for inviting me on your show. As you know there are a lot of choices out there from the thousands of authors and writers that are looking for on-air time to promote their books and businesses, and I am very grateful you chose me, and for two shows! I hope I had a positive and informative impact on your listeners. I like the way you ask questions on what your guest is talking about rather than having a long list of prepared questions. This shows you are not only listening, but also are asking the questions you feel you listeners want to ask.
Iolande,
I do hope you’ll have me back some time. Keep in mind that I am available on short notice if you need me, and we can talk about a lot of things, not just my book. I also enjoyed our conversations before the interview. Again, I want to thank you for the air-time.
Glad you enjoyed the guys in Quactus. I listened intermittently to the live show (I was at a wedding reception at the time and had to duck out to catch it on my phone). Sounded great.
With the very warmest regards, Ric Morgan Pulitzer Prize Nominee www.ricmorgan.com

What Does It Take To Be An Entrepreneur? Over the years countless institutes and individuals have asked the million dollar question. What makes an entrepreneur an entrepreneur? What traits or characteristics are inherent to a successful entrepreneur and is one born with those traits? There’s great news! Successful entrepreneurs are born every day! Some people believe an entrepreneur is born while others believe an entrepreneur can be taught. Some believe an entrepreneur is like an artist - either you have it or do you don’t. Some see entrepreneurs as leaders that are focused, disciplined, competitive, and charismatic, while others see them as huge risk takers. And all of these analogies are right to some degree. It’s true all successful entrepreneurs share a few qualities and skills that allow them to be successful. These inherent qualities can be taught; but they often seem to be an inherent driving force that sends individuals down the path of being in business or formally training to for a career in business. Entrepreneurs see the world differently. They have the ability to see the world as a system. They have the ability to see something in its entirety and as an integrated unit, and they seem to possess the ability to see opportunity within the global picture. They are what is called a system thinker. There are other characteristics they possess. Entrepreneurs possess an overpowering need to achieve and tend to be very competitive against themselves. They are continuously trying to outthink themselves and others and they are constantly looking for the edge. This is a process that occurs as naturally as breathing and is a driving force behind most entrepreneurs. They have the determination and dedication to follow through with commitments and they always appear confident and in control. You’ll notice they also possess a positive atmosphere. They are of the mindset “I can,” and “I will.” They are not afraid of failure because failure is not in their vocabulary nor is it an option. They are objective but have the ability to weigh risks realistically within the big picture. They have an uncanny ability to anticipate developments which gives them the edge on many Copyright (c) MMXI | IVA Radio Network | All Rights Reserved.

competitive situations. Entrepreneurs seem to feel right from their gut, call it instinct. They are a resourceful group that possess excellent problem solving skills and are able to diligently work through obstacles as they occur. Entrepreneurs are excellent communicators and recognize how important clear and concise communication is to their success. They also possess a sound working knowledge of the business they are involved in.

When it comes to successful entrepreneurs it’s a question of what came first, the chicken or the egg. Is it inherent qualities that we are born with that lead us to be entrepreneurs or is it when we choose to become an entrepreneur that we develop the skills and qualities of success? That’s a question we shall leave to the great debaters to resolve. What is for certain is that successful entrepreneurs are born every day and that you too can be a successful entrepreneur by developing the skills of success.

Should You Change Jobs? Are you currently unhappy with your job or with your employer in general? If you are, you may have considered changing jobs. With that in mind, if you depend on your paycheck to help pay your bills or to help support your family, you may be unsure as to whether or not a job change is really in the best interest of you and your family. If this is something that you have asked yourself before, you will want to continue reading on. When it comes to determining whether or not you should change jobs, there are a number of important factors that you will want to take into consideration. These factors are important, as no two situations are the same. Different individuals rely on their paychecks for different things. That is why it is advised that you examine the factors outlined below and then use them in your own, personal, situations. One of the many factors that you will want to take into consideration, before deciding if you should change jobs, is your current job’s pay. Do you think that you receive a fair salary? If you do, do you know that it may be difficult for you to make the same amount of money elsewhere? Unless you are lucky enough to receive a job in upper level management, you may find yourself right back at the bottom of the ladder, having to work your way right back up. For that reason, you will want to first take your current salary and compare it the salary that is being advertised with job openings that you can find in your local newspapers or online. Health insurance is another factor that you will want to take into consideration, when deciding if you should change your job. Do you currently rely on your job for health insurance, either for yourself or for your whole family? If you do, this is definitely a factor that needs to be taken into consideration. Yes, you may be able to purchase health insurance for yourself or at least an extension of your coverage, but you should know that this can get quite expensive. With that in mind, should you still decide to switch jobs, you may want to schedule all of your doctor’s appointments before you do so, just to get everything in order. If your current coverage includes dental and vision coverage, you may also want to make these appointments too, just in case. The current job outlook is another factor that you will want to take into consideration. If you are looking to change jobs, do you already have a new job lined up? If you do not, you will want to at least make sure that there is a good chance that you can seek employment elsewhere. In most cases, you are unable to collect unemployment payments if you leave your job on your own terms. If you have a family to support or if you rely on your income to pay important bills, like your rent or mortgage payments, you may want to have a backup plan in place. In keeping with the current job outlook, you are advised to examine all job openings in your area. What you will want to do is examine any required training, work experience, or education. Unfortunately, many individuals realize too late that they are unqualified for their dream job. This is something that you do not want to do. Instead of assuming, you can easily examine the average job requirements by examining all available job openings in your local newspaper or online. If you do not have the necessary training, you may want to consider enrolling in a career training course, as they may be able to improve your chances of finding a new job. The above mentioned factors are just a few of the many factors that you will want to take into consideration, should you be interested in changing jobs. Of course, the decision to seek employment elsewhere is your decision to make, but, with something this important, you are advised to proceed with caution. Importance of Skills Emphasis on Job Interviews Skill emphasis during the interview is important to show the employer what makes you different from all the other job candidates. In this competitive world, companies search for the most qualified employees by weighing skills of the candidates and determining how they would benefit the company.
and versatility of each job candidate.
Majority of the top companies search for employers who stands out based from their expertise, ability to give new developments, and pleasing personalities that would enhance the organization.
Personal traits include good judgment, well organized, analytical, goal oriented, flexible, creative and many more. Try to sell yourself in as modest as possible within a limited time.
Skills are grouped into three kinds – knowledge-based, transferable, and personal traits.
* Self-assessment. In order to provide an impressive presentation, examine your resume and list all the skills you have used for each past job experience. Make a comprehensive list of your skills and strengths including personal traits, knowledge-based and transferable skills. This would be the basis for your personal commercial.
1) Knowledge-based skills are those learned from experiences. These may include educational attainment, additional training, seminars attended, and other practices that you have studied to enhance your expertise. Knowledge-based skills include computer and communication skills, marketing or managerial knowledge, product development, and many more. These skills vary depending on the field of industry of each job candidate. 2) Transferable or portable skills are those you bring to a specific job. This is the reason why interviewers ask, “What could you offer the company?” Transferable skills are important because companies strive to look for quality employees that would improve the development of the workforce. Portable skills include problem solving, team leader potential, organized, writing and communication skills, customer service oriented, time and project management, and good with numbers and budget. This kind of skills varies depending on the experience
3) Personal traits determine who you are. In a job interview, one of the most common things an employer says is “Tell me something about yourself.” Your response is vital because it would set the tone for the rest of the interview.
* Once you have completed your script, you are now ready to face the interviewer. Remember that employers are interested in your accomplishments. Use words that are concise, direct and clear. Although many companies require a unique set of skills, you should still highlight your technical skills in the interview. These skills, which top companies usually seek, include leadership, communication, confidence, flexibility, problem solving and energy. Emphasizing all of your strengths and skills on job interviews would increase your chances of landing the desired job.

America's plus size community is expanding. Studies show that the average dress size in the United States is already size 14. Furthermore, according to a research company, the sales of the plussize women's clothes increased by 7 percent. These are evidences that the population of the plus sized people are indeed growing.
• Embroidery is suggested to be near the skirt hemline. Cover the hips, if it is a problem area, with long tops • Tops should slightly clingy to the waist to provide a slimming look. However, it
To remove the idea that skinny is the only way to be beautiful, there are have been many fashionable clothes that are made for the plus size person. Plus size clothes no longer hang in the end of the rack but are a whole new category of clothes. Indeed, a perfect 10 is not needed to sport the latest trends in fashion. Clothes for plus size people are differently designed. These target the possible problem areas that a typical plus size people may encounter. Here are some reminders to keep up with the plus size fashion • Keep accessories near the neck and sleeves. Scarves and stoles have worked wonders in the whole outfit. These divert attention from flabby arms and/or broad shoulders. For an illusion of slimness, wrap it around or across your shoulders. • Do not highlight the problem areas (arm, hips and waist) with bold prints, bright colors and accessories. Horizontal stripes are not recommended if they are thick because they will only make you look wider. Thin horizontal stripes are fine because from a far they seem to look like a solid color. NOTE: color and pattern are not as
shouldn't be too clingy or too loose either. Never wear anything that would make you look like that you are wearing a tent. Wide necklines are suggested. * Choose fabrics that fit great and give structure. Fabrics that cling at the problem areas are of course not recommended. Heavier fabrics and heavier weight cotton are the ones suggested for plus size women. These fabric controls the body shape rather than body shape the clothes. * Choosing the right hairstyle is also essential to prevent highlighting puffy cheeks

It has already established its reputation in the fashion scene that it can be both sexy and sophisticated. In fact, more stores have added plus sizes in their racks to cater to more customers. Indeed, the plus size fashion skyrocketed in the market. Fashion has a great impact in ones society. Sometimes, we cannot escape that society would somehow dictate what looks good or not. Writers Resources To End Writers Block Writers block is one of those mysterious ailments that is blamed for late assignments, missed deadlines, and failed dreams. Some people claim it is merely a myth while others find it plagues their writing. As someone with more than two decades of professional writing, editing and teaching experience I feel quite strongly that in 99.9 percent of reported cases of writers block are nothing more than a chimera. In my opinion, far too many would-be writers spend far too much time and energy on finding the right computer, program, paper, pen, location, mood-setting music, and the like before they can begin writing when that time and energy would be much better spent on simply getting down to the business of writing. These would-be writers treat their muse as something delicate and breakable, something as elusive and fleeting as smoke. I know from years spent in the hurly-burly of newspaper reporting and snatching moments to write between deadlines and dinner dishes that a muse worth keeping is made of much tougher material and in fact may benefit from some abuse. Most often writers block, or what is commonly referred to as writers block, is caused by one of three problems--lack of preparation, lack of training, and lack of development. Lack of preparation is often caused by not creating an individual writing process that can take advantage of your writing strengths and help overcome your writing weaknesses. Lack of training is similar to athletic training--you need to warm up and work out on a regular schedule to keep your writing muscles in top condition. Lack of development simply means that your particular idea may need more time to percolate or perhaps you are not ready to tackle that particular topic at the time. I have three recommendations to help you work through writers block. First is to simply write through it. Give yourself permission to write garbage and focus on simply creating a really rough draft. Often once you stop worrying over all that is wrong with your writing the words will begin flowing again. A second method of dealing with writers block is to get moving. Take a walk or hike. Do something physical away from your office or desk and do not let yourself return to the scene of the crime (or writers block) until several hours have passed. You might be surprised what your brain works out in the interim. Finally, exercise and challenge your writing muscles with writing prompts and exercises. Sometimes simply changing the pace of your writing or your subject matter can be enough to help you work through your difficulty. Remember, every writer experiences some form of writers block from time to time but you do not have to make a mountain out of a molehill. Working out an effective strategy to circumvent writers block when it strikes is one of the most important skills a real writer can develop. IVA Writes Now! March 15th, 10 AM Pacific Time I left my job as an HR executive and turned my attention back to my childhood dream. Inspired by the support of a group of lifelong friends, I sat down at the computer and began to write a story I’d had in my head for years. When the first draft was complete, I joined the California Writers Club, found a critique group, and never looked back. Five years and three revisions later, my first novel, Husbands May Come and Go but Friends are Forever, was born. I continue to hone my craft my attending writing classes, workshops, and conferences, all the while reading a wide variety of fiction. “You must read to write well,” is my motto. I’m currently working on my second novel, Staying Afloat, the story of a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother who morphs into a sexstarved adulteress. Husbands May Come and Go but Friends are Forever (Kelso Books) is the winner of the Jack London Prize awarded by the California Writers Club. The story is a celebration of fresh hopes, second chances, and the anything-but-simple art of relationships.. Join in for the interview as she shares her insights on

8 Traits Of The Perfect Entrepreneur If you’ve considered the possibility of becoming an entrepreneur there are eight traits that are important in describing the perfect entrepreneur.
The truth is there are relatively few entrepreneurs that have all the skills listed above, yet their businesses are not only surviving, but their ideas are flourishing.
1. Risk Taker – Entrepreneurs understand that in order to make a profit they will need to assume a certain level of financial risk.
How do they do it?
2. Business Manager – Entrepreneurs have a keen understanding of finance and are well equipped to manage the finances of a business. 3. Organizer – Entrepreneurs are well equipped in the area of organizing all aspects of the business for current and long-term growth. 4. Marketing Expert – Entrepreneurs are capable of understanding and implementing marketing strategies both online as well as offline. 5. “People” Person – Entrepreneurs love to interact with people. They are proficient in customer service and have never met a customer they didn’t like. 6. Self Starter – Entrepreneurs understand that if something is going to be done right they need to be the one to do it. They are never lazy and are easily motivated.
Sometimes the best tool an entrepreneur can have is to pull together the right team. Very few people are gifted in all areas of business, so it just makes sense to find individuals that are a compliment to your business objectives. If you are strong in one area search out individuals who are strong in the areas where strength is required. Chances are good that you will learn something from your employees while you work together to capture your vision for business success. The World’s Most Perfect Entrepreneur is one that knows how to manage resources. Sometimes that means knowing when to call in reinforcements and not being embarrassed to acknowledge your areas of weakness. In essence a weakness area for entrepreneurs does not have to mean an end to a dream. It simply means finding the right running mates to give you a fighting chance at making it to the finish line.
7. Knowledgeable – Entrepreneurs understand the products and services they sell and have no problem explaining every facet of their business to interested clients or affiliates. 8. Initiator – Entrepreneurs are ready, willing, and able to take the lead on projects and assemble all the plans needed to move forward with any project. They always get more work done than anyone expects.

Malaysian Women Entrepreneurs Malaysian women entrepreneurs today are still facing a considerable number of obstacles. You see, venturing in new markets can be a problem for Malaysian women entrepreneurs simply because of the fact that information can be hard to obtain. We all know that you need information in order to start a proper business venture. You will need to know about: a) The market - is there an available market for your product? This determines how well you can expect your product or service to be received. The market determines how much profit you will be able to make. Do you think that people will be wiling to pay the prices you set? Will your market last, or are you experiencing some kind of fad? Without proper knowledge of the market, Malaysian women entrepreneurs can end up spending a lot of money on complete and utter failures. b) The finances - you also need proper information as to the costs and the profits you can expect from your business. Entrepreneurs become entrepreneurs mainly because of the objective of profit. By having the correct financial information, you can successfully plan out your business and where you think that venture will take you. Difficulty in obtaining financial information can cause Malaysian women entrepreneurs to make wrong decisions. You see, you need to be able to estimate your finances ion the best possible manner in order to set up a business correctly. c) Comparative studies - you need to obtain accurate information about similar businesses in order to know what to expect when starting your business venture. Malaysian Women Entrepreneurs Continued Hypes and fads occur all the time. You need accurate information in order to see if a business that was popular last week is still feasible today. Another problem encountered by Malaysian women entrepreneurs is lack of networking. You see, connections are important when running your own business. By establishing connections with other Malaysian women entrepreneurs you get a lot of advantages, including: 1) Information sharing - information is easier to obtain if you have a number of people keeping their eyes and ears open. By forming a network with other Malaysian women entrepreneurs, you actually get the opportunity to gather more information, providing you also share what you know. 2) Advice - in starting your own business, you need all the help you can get. How can you get it if you don't network with other Malaysian women entrepreneurs? Nobody can claim to know everything about business, but within a network, you can come pretty close. 3) Pooling of resources - by networking with other Malaysian women entrepreneurs, you have the opportunity to share resources. We all know that businesses suffer losses. However, being in a network can help you recover quickly from any type of defeat. Entrepreneurial networks today actually have help systems which try and support members when their business is facing a crisis. Fortunately enough, there actually is a group that Malaysian women entrepreneurs can turn to when they need help. The National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia (NAWEM) was formed with the objective of helping Malaysian women entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground and become globally competitive. NAWEM actually provides Malaysian women entrepreneurs with different types of help. The organization conducts trainings and seminars designed to help Malaysian women entrepreneurs expand their skills and gain more knowledge regarding entrepreneurship. NAWEM also provides Malaysian women entrepreneurs with various opportunities to help them penetrate their target market. You see, by joining an association like this, Malaysian women entrepreneurs finally get the edge they need. The group can act as a network, letting Malaysian women entrepreneurs share resources and information. The organization strives to fulfill the shortcomings of the individual. NAWEM also helps Malaysian women entrepreneurs with their financial needs, giving them grants or loans in order to help them expand their ideas and business ventures. Small Business: Vital to the Economy & Jobs Everyone agrees on a broad level that small businesses are vital to the American economy. However, most people would be surprised to know just how important. The United States Small Business Administration keeps records and statistics on small business in the United States and some of their findings are surprising. First, the typical perception of a small business as a mom and pop operation with just a few, if any, employees is not the entire picture. The Small Business Administration defines a small business as an independently business with less than 500 employees. There are an estimated 23 million businesses in the United States that meet that classification. In some smaller towns in the United States, these businesses represent a major source of employment. In fact, small businesses as defined by the Small Business Administration represent 99.7 percent of all the employers in the country and employ half of all private sector employees. More than 45% of the private sector payroll is generated by small business. Over the last decade small businesses have accounted for 60 to 80% of all new jobs created on an annual basis. Although a large percentage of small businesses are in the retail and service sectors, small businesses are rapidly making gains in the technology sector. 41% of high tech workers like engineers, scientists and computer programmers are employed by small businesses. Employees at small businesses produce 13 to 14 times more patents than those employed by larger companies. The Small Business Administration also offers some interesting observations on small
business survival. Two-thirds of small businesses survive for at least two years declining to 44% after four years. Most of the factors that support a small business surviving are well known, such as access to capital and owner's education level. However, a lesser known factor in small business survival is that the business is large enough to have employees. Similarly, barriers to starting a small business include lack of access to start-up capital and lack of education. However, the number one barrier to small business start up and a primary concern of existing small business owners is access to private health insurance. Individual health insurance for sole proprietors is much more expensive than receiving coverage through an employer. If a small business owner is able to offer health insurance to its employees, the administrative and premium costs are often much higher than those for larger businesses.

Need Money for Your Business? Consider a Small Business Grant Small businesses are vital to our nation’s economy. Why, did you know they account for more than 50% of our GDP (gross domestic product)? And more than that, it is here that so many new jobs are being continuously generated. If you happen to be part of this and, as an entrepreneur, you would like to expand your business but don’t have the capital to do it, you could use a free small business grants program. Maybe you have a business idea that has great potential, maybe you are at the crossroads where you just need to diversify and get into the next level as far as your business is concerned. But you don’t have the money to get you there. Well, now you can get the money if you really want it. What are free small business grants? These are grants given by the home state when you need money to start a business or to improve it. All states do not provide free small business grants. The ones that do are Nebraska, New Hampshire, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah. The others usually give you loans or incentives and financial assistance. Some even offer technical training and financing to those who want to start their own small business venture. All it takes to get a free small business grant is a bit of legwork and a little effort. The DHS or the Department of Homeland Security offers free small business grants to entrepreneurs who would like to start something related to security. Through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), DHS has an award for which US companies with less than 500 people can compete. At first, $100,000 is given to the small businesses in order to do research to validate the technical, commercial and scientific value of their concepts. If their ideas are approved, they get grants for the next two years to develop prototypes. The free small business grants are given in the areas of information technology and marine security and chemical and biological defense. True the federal government will not give you grants but it assists individuals wanting to start a small business. This is done through its support arm, the SBA (Small Business Administration). Through this, the US gives small businesses attractive loans and technical support. However, no grants are given to those who want to start a business or want to grow their existing businesses. The SBA was started in 1953 and has been responsible for helping so many thousands of Americans start up their own small business. SBA would like to reach the 25 million small businesses in the US today. Considering how much revenue small businesses are contributing today, it is imperative that we give them the right guidance and assistance. Free small business grants are just a very small well-deserved part in it. Copyright (c) MMXI | IVA Radio Network | All Rights Reserved.

Emotional Intelligence: The Online Training For The Future Of Business Emotional intelligence is the way forward for business, or so it seems considering every individual major national and global company seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. More important than education at the moment, the concept of emotional intelligence has been around since Charles Darwin first invented and commented on the term in 1872. However, it was not until Daniel Goleman published several articles on its uses in business that the concept of online emotional intelligence surveys caught on. Today, if you work for a large company the likelihood is that you will be confronted with an emotional intelligence survey and consequent training at some stage. Emotional intelligence is completely different to intellectual intelligence in that I relates to your own self-awareness. To be emotionally intelligence, you should be firmly in control of your emotions as a result of your own selfawareness as well as being sensitive enough to pick up on the moods of others. Intellectually intelligence relates directly to your academic and technical thoughts and abilities. As a result, they are completely the opposite. To be emotionally intelligent, you do not have to be intellectually intelligent. In fact, research has found that individuals with exceptionally high intellectual intelligence levels are far more socially inept than individuals of average intelligence and thus have a low emotional intelligence score. However, the results are calculated on an individual basis via a survey. Businesses have started to use emotional intelligence surveys to identify training needs and the weak links in a team in the hope that identifying them and reacting accordingly will actually make the workplace more harmonious and productive. Although it does not always work like that, the survey does go some way to helping! However, this only applies if all individuals
answer honestly instead of answering in the manner that they believe the company wants
them to answer. Everybody can benefit from emotional intelligence surveys and training. The training associated with the survey can really highlight problematic areas and attempt to solve them through team building days and training courses. The way we all relate to people can reflect on the individual business and attract consumers as well as repel them. This obviously has a major impact on the individual business and can make or break it, which is why all employees should be assessed on a regular basis. The surveys are often conducted online and the results are returned online. As a result, more and more businesses are actually formulating online computer based training events that can enable an employee to connect with his or her co-workers. Online training is easier to administer, keeps costs down and can enable employees to track their progress to ensure that they are actually benefiting from training. They can also then feedback on the nature of the training so that their opinions can help to formulate the next training tasks. In terms of employees stressing about an emotional intelligence survey or assessment, it is possible to actually improve a score and so the first few results should pose no immediate

Emotional Intelligence: The Online Training For The Future Of Business continued the first few results should pose no immediate concern, as long as the results do improve on a consistent basis. Emotional intelligence training is the ultimate in online training activities and the various types available are now amongst the most popular surveys and training programs requested every year. Of all the people that undergo some sort of training, the highest percentage actually participate in emotional intelligence based training. As a result, every individual should attempt to learn a little bit about it all in preparation.

Training For Music Industry Jobs The music industry is undoubtedly one of the sexiest fields in which to work, according to a recent survey by the editors of Time magazine. There are music industry jobs that require nearly any skill set that you can bring to the job, and the training required varies with each of the music industry jobs that may interest you. Here are some general guidelines for finding work in music industry jobs.
Berklee School for the Performing Arts offer training in many different aspects of the music industry. You can study music and performance law, accounting for the music industry, and business management for music companies as well as composition, performance and other music-specific jobs.
Join the band. Love Music. It's not a prerequisite for music industry jobs, but loving music of any kind is a definite step in the right direction. While loving music may not be important in a record company accountant's position, it's practically required for anyone who works with artists or in promotion.
One of the best training grounds for a career in orchestral music is your school or college band. If you're already beyond the school years, take advantage of county and city music societies to both train your ear and keep in the practice of playing with others. Music ministry jobs often require special certifications.
Check the qualifications for the job. In general, most jobs in the music industry require at least a two year college degree - with the exception of performers who can get by without a degree if they have talent. Expect that the more involved the job, the higher your level of education and/or experience will need to be. A record promoter may need to demonstrate networking skills or developed contacts in the local music scene, for instance, and a contracts lawyer will obviously require a law degree. Music teachers working for the schools will need to have a teaching license as well as the demonstrated ability to play an instrument.
The best training is on the job training. For positions like band manager, road work, publicists and promoters, the best training is through an internship or through your own work promoting and/or managing a band on your own. Some publicists and promoters come to the job from their own fanzines, or have developed a network of contacts in radio and advertising through their college or teen year extracurricular activities.
If you have a calling to a job in music ministry, you'll find that many churches and synagogues require that their full time music minister have pastoral training as well as musical training. The American Guild of Organists and the National Council of Pastoral Musicians offer professional certifications at a number of levels. Music therapists require a bachelor's degree in music therapy from one of the approved universities that teach music therapy. In addition to regular studies, the bachelors in music therapy requires 1200 hours of clinical practice. The requirements for training for music industry jobs are varied, but this is a brief overview of the training required for some of the major careers in the music industry.
