As you may already know, in this section of the CommuniQuest weekly digest, we share with you all of the adventures our team encounters throughout the month. From attending conferences to site inspections, or special events. We’re always in a rush to get our work done on time.

This month we enjoyed an incredible evening during the “Dinner among friends of Fairmont Mayakoba”, organized by their Marketing & Sales team in the Gardens of the Presidential Suite “Tortuga”. We experienced the solidarity among our colleagues and the positive vibes our industry is facing. Everything was wonderful, thank you very much for the invitation!

Meanwhile, in the Dominican Republic, Wolseley Canada made a spectacular contribution to the community, as with their donation to a small school, they were able to build a new classroom. Thank you for your “can do” spirit that produced amazing smiles and ensured a decent education opportunity.

In other news, we recently had the pleasure of welcoming the Executive Incentive Symposium 2020 in our Mexican Caribbean. The event was coordinated by Peerless Performance & C.A. Short Company — who invited some of their very important customers to learn more about our beautiful destination. Hotel Xcaret Mexico was the host for this amazing event, and we had the opportunity to organize a variety of examples for CSR activities.

These included making a traditional piñata for the children’s day celebration, creation of beautiful bracelets as part of the “empowerment skills development project” for women in Playa del Carmen, learning about the reproduction process of coral reefs and the personalization of new homes for the Acropora coral species — which later will be placed in the reef. It was a pleasure to accompany and spend time with all of you, we hope to see you again soon!

On the other hand, as we all already know, the whole world is going through a lot right now.

From the bottom of our hearts, we hope you are alright and safe. We highly recommend you stay indoors with your loved ones for a couple of weeks or until your governmental authorities determine it is the right time to go outdoors. We would also like to encourage you to reschedule your incentives or corporate events instead of canceling them. In a short period, everything will be back to normal, and the best way of celebrating it and resetting our minds will be by traveling the world!

Celebrating a legacy in the making Congratulations on your 50th Anniversary Cancun!

Cancun is celebrating its 50th anniversary! Considered one of the youngest islands in the Mexican Caribbean, this year the local authorities designed a beautiful mail stamp to commemorate this significant event. This stamp portrays Cancun’s majestic blue turquoise waters, which are distinguished worldwide. Currently, home to more than 700 thousand inhabitants, more than 40,000 rooms, among the existent and soon to be constructed, and and millions of visitors per year, this paradise has unmistakably recorded notable growth.

It’s incredible that only five decades ago, the paradise that we know today was only an unnoticed island to the world. Its development at the beginning of the 1970s brought people from all over Mexico with the commitment to structure a scheme with the single goal of promoting the tourism of the country, creating jobs and attracting investments. Cancun was a small island flooded with coconut palm trees, inhabited by a few fishermen and rarely visited by people from Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and Chetumal. The transformation of this immature diamond began with a millionaire investment needed, plus the effort and work of thousands of people who would use their machete to open the roads and slept buried under the sand covering their faces from the mosquito mob — as there wasn’t enough space to accommodate the numerous workers.

Today this beautiful island is attached to the mainland by three bridges and surrounded by lagoons and its impressive Caribbean Sea captivates with its blue turquoise waters which perfectly permeate the bright white color of the soft sand of its beaches.

The 3 million visitors per year enjoy the selections of all hotels, from G.T. (Grand Tourism) all-inclusive, family, only adult properties, boutique or beautiful romantic cottage hotels in the middle of the jungle.

The majority of the hotels offer breathtaking views of the ocean or the lagoon. In addition to the accommodation, Cancun offers a wide variety of culinary aromas and flavors where visitors will be delighted with regional dishes, finest meat cuts, fresh seafood, and the delicious Mexican gastronomy. There are also exotic options such as Chinese, Thailand, Japanese, and Mediterranean cuisine, without missing the new Nouvelle Cuisine fusions.

Cancun is the most complete “resort� in Mexico: it has such a variety of activities to make any of any trip a memorable experience. From all the Archeological sites that bring back history: Tulum, Coba, Chichen-Itza, Ek Balam, just to mention a few; to world awarded themed and aquatic parks, natural reserve experiences, and animal encounters. Live the first sunrise or capture the picturesque sunset while staying at a fine venue in Isla Mujeres. You will also find numerous adventure parks and activities that will bring you closer to nature in Riviera Maya. Encounter cenotes (sinkholes) attractions throughout the Mayan Riviera jungle including the coast and much more. For more relaxing activities there are also a variety of professional golf courses from renowned designers, modern shopping malls, boutiques with international brands and the best local nightlife.

Some memorable and historical events of Cancun’s 50th-year expansion Over the past half-century, Cancun has been witness to an immeasurable growth and worldwide recognition.

1968 - Cancun was evaluated for the construction and development of various resort facilities.

1968 - Bank of Mexico approved Cancun, financially.

1969 - Authorities negotiate with Cancun landowners.

1970 - The construction company (Consorcio Caribe) is the first to arrive in Cancun with a big workers camp.

1971 - The investment reaches 30,000 millions of Mexican Pesos in addition to more than 200 Millions Pesos granted for Cancun.

1972 - The first stone is set for the first Hotel called Bojorquez.

1973 - The first flight arrives (Feb. 5th) in a Grumman plane with twin-engines, belonged to the Bank of Mexico.

1973 - The beginning of the rudimentary airstrip operations with one control tower made of wood sticks and palm trees.

1973 - The construction of Sigfrido Channel (Part of Laguna Nichupte).

1973 - President of Mexico Luis EcheverrĂ­a decreed that the state of Quintana Roo become a free zone.

1973 - The first census indicated a total of 6,000 people lived in camps.

1974 - On March 24th a new contract is agreed for a new trust for tourism promotion.

1975 - The first Cancun birth is registered and named Susana Yvette Herrera Montiel.

1976 - The second phase for the construction of Cancun Airport on the Kukulcan boulevard starts.

1976 - The first commercial jet flight landed by mistake on the old airstrip which was no longer available, but instead it was an urban avenue.

1977 - Cancun amassed 30 hotels, 2,500 rooms, 265 thousand visitors and 4,820 flights.

1983 - Cancun boasted 52 hotels, 5709 rooms, and 754 thousand visitors.

1983 - The first time that Cancun exceeded the amount of 10,000 flights and 875 charters.

1983 - Cancun is deemed an International and prestigious resort destination.

1986 - On May Cancun was selected for the Miss Universe Contest.

1988 - On September 13th and 14th Hurricane Gilbert devastated the entire resort destination.

1990 - Cancun amasses 110 hotels, 17, 470 rooms, and 18,445 flights.

1997 - Further expands to 124 Hotels, with a capacity of 20,381 rooms and more than 2 million 640 thousand visitors with a total of 33,658 flights.

1999- Cancun port is the winner in the construction of the Nautic-Golfer development.

1999 - Kukulcan avenue is expanded in its 3rd phase, with an investment of 26 millions of Pesos, overlooking Nuchupte Lagoon.

2000 - Based on the INEGI census there are 397,191 inhabitants registered.

2005 - October 21st and 22nd, hurricane Wilma hit Cancun like no other before, devastating Cancun, leaving 62 thousand tourists stranded.

2013 - INEGI registered 850 thousand people in the city; 49.9% of the population of Quintana Roo. 2014- Mexico Pelagico film is made with Cancun scenes.

2016 - President Enrique Pena Nieto, inaugurated the extension of terminal 3 of the Cancun International Airport with an investmen of more than 3 billion pesos.

2016 - A turbine phenomenon tears off trees, spectaculars, roofs from convenience stores, light transformers and buildings windows.

2016 - Cancun was the headquarter for the United Nations COP 13 Conference regarding biodiversity.

Meetings and Events in Cancun Over the years, Cancun has also transcended in the area of ​​Meetings and events. It has developed extensive experience in the organization of Groups, Conventions, Congresses, Meetings, and Exhibitions with the highest standards of service both in hotels as in congress and events.

There is excellent connectivity by air; Cancun International Airport is located 16 km from downtown and provides the adequate infrastructure to carry out multiple direct flight operations or connections to different points of Mexico and abroad. This is the best-communicated airport in the country after Mexico City and in fact, it is the one that receives the largest number of international flights arriving from Canada, the United States, Europe, and South America. During the holiday season, it carries out up to 400 operations with more than 30 national and international airlines. Cancun has an excellent highway infrastructure that allows easy communication with the entire southeast of the country. There are modern highways that connect with important cities like Merida and with most of the Riviera Maya.

As for accommodation, it has an impressive hotel infrastructure that includes almost 200 hotels with more than 35,000 rooms, recognized with 5-stars or higher. Additionally, several of these resorts have been awarded various recognitions such as: “Five Diamonds” from the AAA, World Travel Awards, in addition to several remarks from Trip Advisor and The Leading Hotels of the World.

Additionally, the International Cancun Center possesses modern facilities and all the latest technology services in a stretch of more ​​ than 7,300 m2 for exhibitions, 8 halls, and an auditorium. Cancun’s hotel infrastructure also offers a wide range of rooms and spaces suitable for conducting business meetings.

The Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort alone has almost 8,000 m2 for events, but there are 16 hotels with more than 1,000 m2 for congresses and conventions. This year, in October, the WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) World Summit will be held in Cancun, which is the most relevant travel and tourism event that brings world leaders from the public and private sectors in one space.

Cabo Catoche Playa Mujeres

Cabo Catoche is a cape that is located in the state of Quintana Roo. It is a “point” that lies on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and is also the northernmost of the great Yucatan peninsula. This cape is located approximately 53 kilometers north of the well-known tourist city of Cancun. Due to its position, it belongs to the continental area of Holbox Island as well as within the Isla Mujeres municipality. Cabo Catoche acts as a boundary between the Gulf of Mexico and the Antillean Sea — also known as the Caribbean Sea — responsible for printing the southwestern border of the Yucatan waterway.

A hidden coast has flourished into the spotlight Cabo Catoche was the first point of arrival during the Spanish conquest of what is now the current State of Mexico. The first to step on was the European expedition led by Francisco Hernandez de CĂłrdoba, which debarked at the beginning of 1517. This arrival was also the one that struck the Yucatan Penninsula for the explorers of the old world.

Today Cabo Catoche has become a very popular touristic place but mostly because of its proximity to Cancun one of the most popular touristic resorts from all of Mexico. It’s possible to find flora and fauna with lots of diversity in the nearest areas as they are protected by environmental organizations.

Cabo Catoche, which is divided into three zones with an estimated 25,034 total room accommodations between these three zones; Soto Lindo with 9,600 rooms and a professional 18-hole Golf course and two marinas. Costa Mujeres with 6,900 rooms and one 9-hole Golf course. Paraiso Mujeres with about 2,000 rooms, commercial areas and beach clubs and finally Playa Mujeres with 6,500 room accommodations.

Golf: There are a total of two Golf courses currently built on this location, one semi-professional with 9 holes, and the other a professional course with 18 holes designed by Greg Norman — this last one belongs to the hotel Dreams Playa Mujeres. Flora and fauna: Isla Contoy is one of the few protected areas in Quintana Roo as this island has lagoons, mangroves, rivers, and a refuge for several species of animals. This site is also considered a bird sanctuary and deemed to possess the second largest reef of the world called Ixlaché, where visitors can snorkel while encountering turtles, stingrays, and an incredible assortment of fish. This area is considered one-of-a-kind and thus limited a maximum of 200 visitors per day.
