History
Colombia has been inhabited by many indigenous groups since 12.000 BC, such as the Muisca, Quimbaya, and Tayrona. The Spanish arrived in 1492 known as the XVI Century and established the New Granada Kingdom with Santafe de Bogotå Capital city. Most of the Colombian population is mixed between Spanish and indigenous groups including Africans brought to Colombia as slaves. The diversity of races and customs gave birth to the amazing Colombian folklore, exquisite gastronomy and cultural expressions with worldwide artists such as painter and sculptor Fernando Botero and the Nobel prize bearer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a destination specialist in crafts, textiles, and Ceramics. The most important Colombian folklore expression is its music, with Grammy-winning artists such as Shakira, Juanes, and Carlos Vives who have a passion for singing and dancing. The country’s recent history from 2005 has shown significant improvement in security, stability, order, and justice with economic growth and development. Colombia nowadays is verified as a safe destination for tourists.
