Message From Headquarters Dear reader, In our experience, the meetings and evens industry should be optimistic seeing that 2017 was a successful year due to the emphasis we put on developing new talent, creativity regarding thinking, and spearheading technology needed to support enhanced engagement and comprehensive return on events. For 2018, strategic meetings management is becoming more and more a vital imperative. It involves a disciplined approach to managing enterprise-wide meeting and event activities, processes, and trusted suppliers. A greater priority is being placed on the overall attendee experience. In response to attendees’ changing tastes, our definition of “successful experiences” is ever changing. At IVI, we are mindful of this trend and thus we put a special emphasis on improving meeting content and production, with the result of an increase in attendance numbers. We will help you make your attendees comfortable and interested, to appeal to their emotions and capture their interest. The more we do that, the more they’ll engage and the easier it becomes to fulfill your objectives. Sincerely, Jose-Manuel (Manolo) GARCIA, CIS, CMS, CMM Second Generation, Innovator & President

THE BEST 4 REASONS TO PLAN A BUSSINESS TRIP TO LOS CABOS With the growing interest of professional events - and of the companies themselves - carrying out meetings, conventions, groups and incentive travel programs in Cabos has attracted a million-dollar investment and an economic output from this segment of the tourism industry. To this is added the opening of important hotel chains that offer only the best to the business traveler. But what exactly attracts the attention of the groups experts? 1 · An efficient air connectivity. The airport of San José del Cabo (SJD) occupies the sixth place in Mexico in the number of daily flights and air traffic. 2 · Infrastructure and facilities for first class events - such as Grand Velas Los Cabos, which is close to opening its doors in this destination, with 304 suites decorated by renowned designers and 1,500 m2 of event space. 3 · The well-known Mexican hospitality so that both professionals and guest events enjoy an authentic and satisfying vacation experience during business and group trips. 4 · A large number of activities and attractions to discover this destination, which make any trip a unique experience.
With more than 30 direct and connecting flights from the United States and Canada, San José del Cabo International Airport receives more than three million passengers a year, being a destination that in addition to the adequate infrastructure, offers easy access. With the opening of nearly 4,000 new rooms within the next three years under the signature of chains such as JW Marriott, Hard Rock, Velas Resorts, Solaz and Nobu Hotels, among others, Los Cabos will continue to be distinguished as a destination of interest for the segment of meetings, offering an extensive diversity, as well as authentic experiences. Los Cabos welcomes groups and conventions in spaces of ultra-modern infrastructure and natural scenes of great beauty. It is a destination with great international air connectivity and featuring also the most impressive resorts. 5
PUERTO VALLARTA & RIVERA NAYARIT HOW CAN A SECRET BE A TREND AT THE SAME TIME? Everyone is asking about the new face and the new show of one of the icons of Puerto Vallarta - Savia by Rhythms of the Night. There are no spoilers, no one seems to know a thing. It is all mystery.
This is all we have been able to find out: Legend has it there were four civilizations of humanity prior to ours. Each period saw the evolution of the human race as well as its demise. These previous worlds were destroyed by tornadoes, fires and floods, yet rituals and sacrifices have kept the human spirit alive. From the bones and ashes of the ancients comes a celebration of the new Sun and hope for a better world. The questions we have heard are – how can you improve something that was already awesome? - if I already experienced it and loved it, will I see something new and different now? The answer is – don’t miss it! And bring your group with you!

CANCUN & RIVIERA MAYA
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2018 FOR CANCUN & RIVIERA MAYA In the constant search for improvement in concepts such as quality, innovation, social responsibility, companies are betting on an ecological conscience, developing action plans with responsibility for the future. The idea is, as stated in the World Commission on Environment and Development (Brundtland Commission), 1987: Use natural resources to meet current needs, without compromising the ability of generations to meet theirs. Tourism development should be based on criteria of sustainability, that is, it can be ecologically sustainable in the long term, economically viable and equitable from an ethical and social perspective for local communities. "Sustainable development is an oriented process that contemplates a global management of resources in order to ensure its durability, the capacity to conserve our natural and cultural capital, including protected areas. Since tourism is an instrument of development, it can and must participate actively in the strategy of sustainable development; good tourism management requires the sustainability of the resources on which they depend". "Charter of Sustainable Tourism" World Conference on Sustainable Tourism April 1995. In the same tenor, the World Tourism Organization (WTO) conceives sustainable tourism as "a way to manage all resources in a way that can meet economic, social and aesthetic needs, while respecting cultural integrity, processes ecological essentials, biological diversity and systems that sustain life".
7
CANCUN & RIVIERA MAYA GLOBAL FAIRS & THE NEAR FUTURE To take advantage of the success of IBTM Latin America and the rapid development of the market in the region, IBTM events, part of Reed Travel Exhibitions, announced the integration of IBTM Latin America and IBTM America to create IBTM Americas. The event will take place in Mexico City on September 5 and 6, 2018. The expansion of IBTM Americas will also receive an increase in hosted buyers in North America of 800% and at the same time it will continue to attract high level decision-makers in Central and South America. To provide the opportunity to expand skills in relationships with key leaders in industries around the world in a single event, SITE and MPI join forces to present an event in 2018 called SITE + MPI Global Forum in the beautiful city of Rome where they will bring together the best and brightest in the incentive travel and meeting industries to boost connections, education and trendy destinations.
AN EVER IMPROVING AIR CONNECTIVITY During 2017 there was an increase of 11.2% in the number of passengers compared to 2016. With an investment of 3,400 million pesos Cancun’s terminal 4 was inaugurated; it is estimated that this figure will grow by expanding the annual capacity to 31 million of reception of passengers. Added to this are the new air routes, which include direct flights to Paris, Bogotå, among others. Spirit airlines will start daily flights to Cancun from Chicago and Baltimore.
8
COZUMEL’S CRUISE CONTROL Younger generations, including Millennials and Generation X, are adopting cruise travel, being the most recurrent groups so far. With 3 million 607 thousand 885 passengers and 1,111 arrivals, Cozumel is positioned as the number one cruise destination worldwide. In 2018, the programming of cruises with itinerary in Cozumel will be of 3 million 596 thousand 751 passengers in 1, 258 cruises. REDISCOVERING OUR MAYAN ROOTS In 2018 an archaeological zone of great importance called Ichkabal will be opened to the public. It dates back to 300 BCE and its dimensions exceed in height and extension to Chichen Itzå and in age to Kalakmul. Despite its age it has a high degree of of conservation due to the fact that it was covered by the jungle reserve. According to a hypothesis of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, Ixchkabal was the first great political settlement in the region and possibly the origin of one of the most important ruling lineages of the Mayan world: the divine lords of Kanal.
OUR DESTINATION IS CONSTANT GROWTH! This 2017 closes the offer of accommodation in 1,034 Hotels with 98, 964 rooms distributed in Cancun and Riviera Maya. Currently 18 thousand rooms are being built. With an investment of 840 million dollars in Riviera Maya, the project for a theme park will begin with state-of-the-art mechanical attractions, restaurants, shows, and a museum of archeology. With a capacity for 5 thousand people, the International Convention Center of Cancun re opens with a facelift. With an investment of 15 million pesos and the participation of 30 stars on stage, the "Rock of Ages" musical was officially opened; it joins the tendency to organize theatrical productions Broadway type and thereby complements the tourist offer in the area.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
PUNTA CANA INTERNATIONAL'S NEW VIP AIRPORT LOUNGE WILL FEATURE AN OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL Making long stops or a delayed flight is one of the biggest concerns for travelers. Resting in an armchair, having a coffee or walking through the airport are the main time-killers prior to boarding time. As far as airport amenities go, Punta Cana International’s latest offering might be the coolest one yet. From this December, travelers waiting to fly out from the Dominican Republicbased airport will be able to go for a dip or lounge around an outdoor pool just steps from the runway. This will make waiting more bearable. The swimming pool is just one of the many novelties of the new VIP lounge designed by the Dominican architect Antonio Segundo Imbert that will be inaugurated in January 2018. The airport currently has two VIP lounges in terminals A and B, opened to passengers from preferred class as well as those who buy the pass to these rooms.

Another novelty that brings Punta Cana airport for this new year is that the Dominican Civil Aviation Board (JAC)
announced
that
Immigration

travelers
returning from the Dominican Republic, this process will enable them to save the customs-and-immigration line after their flight lands in the U.S.
Through a new four-year agreement Grupo Puntacana, which owns and operates Punta Cana Resort & Club, will serve as the host organization and Corales golf
course will remain the tournament course. The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship will be held for the second time on the Web.com Tour. It will debut March 19-25, 2018, the same week as the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, will offer 300 FedExCup points to the winner and carry a purse of at least USD$3 million.

COSTA RICA SANTA TERESA RISES TO TRENDY COSTA RICA BEACH DESTINATION For smart businesses it is key to take account of what it is trendy. Be it to take advantage directly or in some connected or derived way. This is so true specially in our field of tourism. Trendiness is never at a stop, it is always changing and dynamic. So we must be attentive to detect what is trendy or will become trendy. Costa Rica itself is TRENDY by herself because of what she naturally offers but so much so by the emphasis on sustained policies for an ecological, sustainable and socially responsible tourism. You drop the name Costa Rica in the context of travel and immediately people will listen. That is truly a precious trademark forged with arduous and very savvy work by the people involved who knew what they had at hand. That said, now let us take a look to a particular place that is trendy in Costa Rica now and enforces the image of Costa Rica as a trendy place to visit. That is Santa Teresa, once a small backward fishing village, home to a handful of families who lived off the sea, along with small-scale agriculture and cattle ranching is now one of the beaches that the rich and famous don’t want to miss if they come to Costa Rica, e.g. Brooke Shields, Tom Brady, Giselle Bündchen, etc. Like many of Costa Rica’s top beach destinations along the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa’s isolation from poor or non-existing roads kept this tropical paradise off the beaten track for decades. From the hilly interior, the jungle sweeps down the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, hugging the shore and creating some of the most beautiful and hidden beaches of Costa Rica. The top internet travel site Trip Advisor has named Santa Teresa “Best Beach in Central America” two years running in their annual Traveler’s Choice Awards. Forbes Magazine also tagged Playa Santa Teresa as one of the world’s top beaches. Santa Teresa is known for its gold and light sand beaches, excellent and consistent surf conditions, warm crystal-clear aquamarine water, interesting volcanic reef formations, relaxing atmosphere, and spectacular sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. So there you have a justifiable trendy place. Come down and visit!

Recommended Destination:
HAVANA Havana, the capital of the Republic of Cuba, is the official headquarters of the upper organs of the State and the Cuban government, of all the central organizations and of almost all the companies and associations of national scope. Havana is located in the west of Cuba and although it is the smallest of the provinces itt is the most populous city in the country and the third most populated in the Caribbean region. The territory of the city of Havana has status of province and this is divided administratively in 15 municipalities; Particularly in the municipalities of Playa, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana Center, Habana del Este and Old Havana (World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1982). Its historical, architectural and cultural heritage, at the beginning expressed in the merger between Europeans, Africans and Aborigines, together with other more contemporary ethnic and cultural components, turned Havana into one of the seven Wonders Cities of the World In June 2016. Its warm climate with temperatures ranging from 20.0 °C to 29.8 °C is ideal to visit at any time of the year.

The traveler will find countless places of architectural, cultural and tourist interest. Among its most representative monuments are the Cathedral of Havana, the Plaza de Armas, the Morro Castle, the Revolution Museum, the National Palace of Fine Arts, the Grand Theatre of Havana, the Capitol, the Revolution Square and the Malecon, perhaps the most recognized symbol. Havana has something for everyone from its landscapes, its people, its music, its tobacco and gastronomy, its mojitos and the history that is breathed in a city stopped in time.
Did you know? The Capitol of Havana is inspired by that of the United States; Built in 1929 in Havana (Cuba)
under the direction of architect Eugenio Raynieri Piedra and commissioned by then-Cuban President Gerardo Machado. The Capitol of Havana is a meter higher, a meter wider and a meter longer than that of the United States, also has many details that make it unique. Havana is also known as "the City of the columns" due to an essay written by Alejo Carpentier
who was inspired by the charming city. The smallest street in Havana, also known as the Alley of the “Templete”, is only 20 meters
long and three meters wide. Havana can be toured in Cocotaxi, a means of transportation; It is a motorcycle covered by a
rounded body that allows 2 passengers to be transported in addition to the driver. In Havana you can find a sculpture of John Lennon made in shinny bronze; it is located in
John Lennon Park in El Vedado neighborhood. 23

Dr.Travel’s: The Hidden City Sometimes you can get to where you want to go by pretending to fly somewhere else—hidden city ticketing. Say you want to go from Seattle to Dallas, but the fare is exorbitant. But a much lower promotional fare is on flights from Seattle to Miami with one stop in Dallas. You book that one and get off the plane in Dallas. (Naturally, you can’t check any bags or they will got to Miami.) One major problem with hidden-city ticketing is it’s against airline regulations (so most travel agents won’t do it, you must book it yourself). The other difficulty is you can’t buy a round-trip ticket. The airline will cancel the return segment. But you can buy another one-way ticket back to the original city. If you do, route it differently than the first ticket and do so only after the first ticket has been used. Or use another carrier. Airlines do not share ticketing information. Do not use your frequent flyer number when you book the tickets. Offer that number only when you check-in at the airport. Some people are using this, as one magazine called it, “tricky-ticketing-tactic” to save money. But beware, it’s risky. (Taken from page 76) James Feldman, (a.k.a.
