PUERTO VALLARTA & RIVIERA NAYARIT

Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful place that amazes and inspires everyday with a beautiful blue sky that frames a spectacular fiery-orange sun and moon as well. A tempered and generous sea that relaxes, but also imposes, and sunsets that deserve a pause in our day, and take our breath away. It’s a city in the middle of the mountains surrounded by the sea, bathed by the sun and the sand, which inhabitants are kind by nature and eager to serve the visitors. Its geographic location is enviable: a huge bay in the Pacific Ocean with its blue waters of all blue tones on one side, and a mountain range, that offers mild temperatures, rivers, cascades, and steep lands asking to be conquered.

This area has the biggest hotel and business offer, among which are: shopping centers, selfservice stores, cinemas, cafes, crafts, a wide variety of restaurants, as well as miles of dreamy beaches. From the top of the hills it’s possible to enjoy excellent views of the two world-class 18-hole golf courses.

There’s so much about Riviera Nayarit to discover. Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Western Sierra Madre mountains, this stunning treasure awaits you. Riviera Nayarit is Mexico’s fabulous new vacation paradise! Nayarit is a tropical wonder which Pacific coastline stretches for almost 200 miles. Nayarit’s Southern border unfolds just 10 minutes North of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Its Northern border unfolds just 40 minutes West of the Tepic International Airport. Riviera Nayarit provides a backdrop of intense skies, emerald mountains, abundant vegetation, and endless beautiful golden beaches for an unforgettable Mexico vacation experience.

What most vacationers love about Riviera Nayarit is that this part of Mexico is marked by a predominately sub-humid climate and an annual average temperature of 77°F (25°C). Ninety percent of the year is met with bright rays of sunshine. This creates the ideal environment for the growth of an exuberant flora that takes on intense colorful hues and beautifully dot the land.

UNSPOILED, WONDERFUL SEA LIFE

In BahĂa de Banderas, and the Pacific Ocean that surrounds Puerto Vallarta, marine life is abundant. There is plenty tuna, snapper, blue marlin, black marlin, sailfish, and seabass. A variety of sea turtles swarms the bay; the shores of Banderas Bay are actually a breeding ground for the turtle. The government has established turtle sanctuaries and release sites; strict laws are enforced to protect these endangered species. BahĂa de Banderas too, is a dolphin breeding area, so it is very common to see the bottle-nose, spotted and dusky dolphins swimming and frolicking about near Puerto Vallarta. Dolphins are very curious, friendly, and playful by nature. To the delight of onlookers, dolphins usually swim next to boats and kayaks. Humpback whales are the giants of the seas! These gentle creatures come back each winter to the coasts where they were born as they find here the ideal conditions for their reproduction. The males of this species sing songs that are heard underwater for miles around. The song of the whales are some of the most beautiful sounds in nature and the strongest produced by an animal.

BIODIVERSITY AT ITS BEST!

The biodiversity you will admire during the outdoor activities in the amazing Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit region is overwhelming indeed!

The Sierra Madre Occidental is a rugged mountain range within Mexico that runs from the Rio Grande de Santiago in the state of Jalisco, North through several other Western Mexican states, including Nayarit. This ecoregion boasts some of the richest biodiversity in North America, and contains two thirds of the standing timber in Mexico. There are 23 different species of pine trees and 200 species of oak. Tropical and temperate influences converge in this area to provide shelter to a unique and rich flora and fauna, including 300 species of rare orchids, colorful bougainvillea (red, purple, orange, and white), more than 350 species of birds, beautiful monarch butterflies, and a large number of interesting mammals and reptiles. The jungle throughout Puerto Vallarta area is thick and lush, as abundant sun and summer rain produce humidity that nurtures the entire region. A diversity of trees can be found in this zone such as Amapa, Chilte, Palo de Brasil, and resistant wood such as walnut, parota, cedar amapa, and primavera that can be used to make canoes and hard-wood furniture. Exotic fruits are also plentiful in this region including coconut, pineapple, macho banana, guava, guamuchil, mango, jackfruit, watermelon, and avocado, among some others.

7

DAY OF THE DEAD, YEAR-ROUND CELEBRATIONS, AND FESTIVALS

Mexico is known for its intense spirit of celebration, and Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit are no exception. The entire calendar is aplenty with celebrations and festivals. One of the traditions of greatest identity and pride in Mexico is the DĂa de Muertos (Day of the Dead). Through the first days of November, the towns and villages of the region celebrate this festivity in the most traditional way, that is, with music, candles and the famous ofrendas (offerings). Puerto Vallarta will be no exception as it will celebrate with art exhibitions, folkloric ballet, Mexican nights, mariachis, contest of catrinas (skeleton ladies), among many other activities. Both locals and visitors will experience this ancient remembrance in honor to the ones who already passed but that will never forgotten.

THE CONRAD, NEW OPENING IN THE RIVIERA NAYARIT

Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Hilton's luxury hotel brand, will open doors at Playa Mita, Riviera Nayarit by the end of 2019, with the Conrad Playa Mita. The Conrad will perfectly fit into the area, renown worldwide as a luxury destination surrounded by an unparalleled natural paradise. Some of the highlights of this stunning project are three pool environments, its 10,000 sq ft Spa and its breathtaking beachfront location.

FIESTA EN LAS MONTAÑAS - MEXICO AT ITS BEST!

The Mexican pavilion in Vallarta is worth visiting; however, how about tasting the real Mexico? Fiesta in las Montañas (party in the mountains) is an experience created to show the traditions and customs of the state of Jalisco to all Puerto Vallarta's visitors. We will cross rural areas through the very peaceful outskirts of Puerto Vallarta. Once at the rancho, you will live a true Mexican fair, full of fun, with colorful and typical stands, delicious tacos and local snacks with sweet, natural typical refreshments and a domestic open bar. We'll share laughs with a surprise parody and keep the party on with a Mexican rodeo presentation known as the “charreria". You may be hungry at this point, so let us taste an exquisite buffet dinner composed of assorted traditional dishes made by the locals, exactly as they cook it for their own family parties. The fiesta continues with live mariachi music, dancing horse demonstrations, a show of Mexican rope tricks, dances, and other clever surprises. Fiesta en las Montañas takes place each Wednesday on a shared basis, and it can be booked as a private event for your group on any other weekday. Please contact your IVI DMC² representative and book it!

In this interesting and charming destination, you will find a number of art galleries where art lovers and visitors from all over the world can enjoy beholding exquisite exhibitions or acquire some wonderful artistic pieces. There are so many galleries in Puerto Vallarta that it would be impossible to mention or describe all of them in this article. We have programmed events that include visiting the local galleries at various points of the calendar, such as the extraordinary Art Walk in the historic center. A small sample of the available variety of art is exhibited in the following galleries ...

SUN, SAND, AND ... ART?

The Loft It has a valuable collection of works by modern and contemporary artists in areas such as painting, sculpture, and photography. It provides certification services for authentic pieces and appraisals of works of art.

Galería Córsica This gallery is dedicated to promoting works of contemporary art by Mexican artists. In the same way, it offers the client the opportunity to acquire exceptional works of painting and sculpture created by renowned artists whose works are exhibited in museums in Mexico and around the world. Its main clients are art collectors, interior design architects, and corporate art consultants.

Galería de Ollas This gallery only exhibits and sells fascinating pots from the town of Mata Ortiz, in the state of Chihuahua, near the ruins of Paquimé. The region is famous for the pottery produced there. The gallery offers a great variety of high -quality pieces, as well as guided tours that explain how this beautiful art was developed.

Many other galleries are dedicated to promoting works of contemporary art by Mexican artists; other display stunning Huichol art which is highly appreciated worldwide. Paintings, blown glass, wood, brass sculpture, designer jewelry, and many more types of artistic works that deserve to be exhibited in museums, can be part of your personal or corporate collection. Shipping is not a problem, as the galleries can ship worldwide. 12

PUERTO VALLARTA TIME CAPSULE

The Head Office of Puerto Vallarta, along with the local Campus of the University of Guadalajara, Centro Universitario de la Costa, and other private entities, buried a time capsule on September 27, 2018. This has the purpose of leaving a historical legacy for future generations to treasure. The project entailed filling up a stainless-steel box containing symbols of the city's first 100 years; it is to be unearthed in 2043, during the 125th anniversary celebrations. Puerto Vallarta is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its foundation and the calendar is full of special events, some purely festive and some aimed to the health and well-being awareness, environmental protection, animal care, and more. You can celebrate with us while giving back at the same time! Fundraising activities are available throughout the year, as well as opportunities for volunteering. Contact your IVI DMC2 representative and make a difference!
