PUERTO VALLARTA Puerto Vallarta is located in the Bay of Banderas, in the Pacific Ocean; this bay is limited to the north by Punta Mita and to the south by Cabo Corrientes. Its coast is approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) long and is one of the largest bays in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is named after Ignacio Vallarta, former governor of Jalisco, who fought in the Reform War alongside Benito Juárez, attending the convention that drafted the 1857 Constitution of Mexico; he went into exile in the United States from 1864 to 1866 during the French intervention. Its remains are in the Roundabout of the Illustrious Men in Guadalajara. Puerto Vallarta is the second most important economic zone of the state of Jalisco and the third most important port of Mexico. Framed by the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental, it is a charming tourist destination with cobblestone streets and golden sunsets that has maintained its essence and Mexican traditions.

Travel Tip: Cruise Control for Auto-Pilots Cruise ships are actually floating hotel rooms. The enchantment starts as soon as your luggage arrives, the ship disembarks, and you are underway. Cruise ships are the same as the all-inclusive hotel o resort except they float. They also move. Champagne, fresh flowers, at least five meals a day, casinos, spas, pools, and gyms all add to the list of amenities included on most large cruise ships. Susan Joseph, of Carnival Cruise Lines, tells the story of man who was upset when he entered his cabin. He called the purser. The purser was unable to understand the man due to his accent and loud voice. After the distraught passenger calmed down, he told the purser, “I have paid for an ocean view and I got a parking lot view.” Pausing for a moment, the purser said he would resolve the problem within twenty minutes … just as soon as the ship left the dock.
