Last month of the year is here! It’s December already, and we can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. Anyway, it’s time for our favorite part of the Communiquest, the section where we tell you about everything we did during the month. Let’s jump right into it!
In other news, our associate Jaime NELO attended the HPN Global Annual Partner Conference in Scottsdale, AZ on December 6-9. We are looking forward to continue our partnership and thanks to all our HPN Global friends and industry partners. We can’t wait to meet up with all of you face to face in 2021!
First, we want to congratulate Raquel MIJARES, Mariana LEON & Yazmin ELOSEGUI, for becoming Certified Incentive Travel Professionals (CITP), a title given by SITE to some of the elite members of the M&E industry and proudly one of the few across Latin America. Thanks to the three of you for always improving the IVI DMC standards and staying up to date to make our clients and partners look GREAT!

Los Cabos is ready to welcome you!
Sustainable Events in Los Cabos
Los Cabos has been an exceptional host of amazing experiences that involve the community and its visitors. It offers a vast diversity of unique, locally produced, and natural local elements.
Nowadays, visitors can find restaurants that are centered on organically grown products, offering the farm to table concept with great success, these restaurants are known as the Farms with different concepts and atmospheres and are a great alternative for holding a variety of functions, as outstanding food is offered on a daily basis, and it's easily available during morning, afternoon or night.
Page 8
These restaurants are now deemed a must, for special occasions such as anniversaries, promotions, engagements, and even weddings! During the last 10 years, it has been a goal by many companies around the world to build more organizational, communicational and social skills for their employees, and that's where Team Building events have transpired. Los Cabos has lots of nature, beaches, desert landscapes, and even oasis for this type of event, giving the experience more tangible elements to be remembered - making it very unique for the visitors, during their visit to this part of the world.
There is also another framework for visitors to spend their time enjoying the natural wonders of Los Cabos, if they practice a sport, especially in Baja, in its crystal clear waters. It invites people to participate more and develop a sense of belonging and giving back to nature, without having to go through the deterioration process as this is more important than ever. Locals can help nature and take care of it, as it is the means of an experience. Eco-friendly sports should be offered widely to help the environment, its participants, and hosts.
Farm to Table Locally source produced. Farm-to-table restaurants have risen in popularity in recent years around the globe and Los Cabos. However, only a few are considered pioneers who provide a dining experience worth traveling for. Locally, this marvelous destination offers innovative options for having a meal around this concept and a way to offer food that benefits the environment and people. Locals and visitors can indulge themselves in this concept perceived as a sustainable event including many other options for giving back to the community, which can also be arranged.
Page 10
Eco Friendly Team Building Los Cabos has plenty of sand, sea, and an abundance of warm and tropical sunshine. It is gratifying to enjoy all these amazing natural resources. Your program will have a fast-paced, high energy, and a blend of exciting and competitive team beach activities. Almost any team building program is fitting for any hotel or beach in Los Cabos, however, there are plenty of options that this inspiring destination has to offer that can provide an eco-friendly program. Working out during a visit here and achieving other goals such as group engagement, can be achieved with creative activities and delightful settings inside this marvelous destination.
Eco Friendly Sports Los Cabos is located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. It is a natural paradise where you can enjoy incredible natural phenomena such as gray and humpback whales as they migrate more than 3000 km from Alaska every year. Los Cabos is comprised primarily of two towns, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas; which are linked by a 20-mile corridor lined with world-class resort properties and championship golf courses and Cabo Pulmo. The Magical Towns of Mexico are localities with symbolic attributes, legends, history, transcendent facts, daily life, magic that emanate you in each of their socio-cultural manifestations, which give tourists a great opportunity to indulge. Here in Baja California Sur are two of the most amazing magical towns; Loreto and Todos Santos. Some of the sports and activities here for a sustainable event can be surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, ziplining and rappelling, bird watching, city tours, historic tours, gastronomic experiences for everybody, and much more! } Page 11
Riviera Nayarit - where caring for the beaches is everyone's business Experience the wonders of Mexico’s Pacific Treasure and do your part to keep the beaches clean. here’s a saying in Mexico: “A clean city is not the one that is swept the most, but the one that is spoiled the least.” In this case, we’d like to apply it to our beaches. There’s nothing worse than going for a walk and seeing trash left behind by visitors. With this in mind, the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association are going above and beyond to keep the destination’s beaches in optimum conditions. These efforts have borne fruit, because it’s currently among the leaders in the nation’s Clean Beaches program. However, caring for our beaches is a job for everyone, especially because of this new normal: After months of confinement, we’re finally able to enjoy the benefits of a good dip in the ocean. Page 12
Do your part and the rest will fall into place.
Here are four recommendations that you can put into practice every time you visit our beaches:
Avoid burying your trash in the sand—when the tide is high all of that garbage will end up floating in the sea.
Don’t throw down your cigarette butts or pour out contaminating liquids
Take care of the wildlife
It’s awful to be walking on the beach and step on half-eaten food, oil slicks, or cigarette butts. Did you know a cigarette butt takes 10 to 15 years to degrade? Also, avoid pouring liquids of any type into the ocean—think about the species that live there. Leave the beach exactly as you would like to have found it Whenever you go to the beach, take a bag or container with you for your garbage, so that at the end of the day you can just throw it away into the appropriate bins.
Respect the wildlife of the region you visit. Don’t cut plants or flowers, don’t remove shells, snails, or stones. It’s important that you respect everything that lives at the beach. Changing its place, climate, or region can be very harmful to any of the species. Help clean the beach There are many institutions focused on the proper maintenance of the beaches. In the case of the Riviera Nayarit CVB, we have started the Beach Cleanup Network (BCN). Since its creation in 2014 it has organized more than 670 cleanups along the entire tourist corridor.
Page 13
Beyond luxury, a commitment to nature The value of this tourist destination lies not only in the promise of exclusivity, sun, and beach; but also in its regard for the environment. Travel will be different after COVID-19. Tourists will look for exclusivity without altering the environment and they will be more demanding concerning hygiene and sustainability. To continue being competitive, tourist destinations must adapt to these new tendencies by offering unique experiences to their visitors.
Riviera Nayarit stands out in this regard as a destination that embraces luxury and nature while going even further. Although it shines for its spectacular resorts and its exclusivity, it has also been a standard-bearer for the protection of the environment and its natural sources through a series of ongoing programs and initiatives. Riviera Nayarit has answered the call of sustainability by seeking national and international certifications that validate the destination, along with other practices that contribute greatly.
Page 14
Blue Flag This international certification is granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education to destinations (beaches, marinas, and other bodies of water) that meet its strict environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria. Nuevo Vallarta Norte beach and the Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (both in Banderas Bay) currently hold this certification, as do the Santa María del Oro Lagoon and the FONATUR Marina in San Blas.
Clean Beaches Riviera Nayarit is the national leader in Certified Clean Beaches under the NMX120-SCFI-2016 standard from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), with 10 certified beaches: Nuevo Vallarta Norte, Nuevo Vallarta Norte II, Nuevo Vallarta Sur, Bucerías, Playa Palladium, Los Muertos in Sayulita, Rincón de Guayabitos, Isla del Coral, Chacala, and Platanitos. The Mexican Institute of Standardization and Certification A.C. (IMNC) is the accredited body that monitors the conformity assessment of the standard.
Nuevo Vallarta Clean Tourist Destination Nuevo Vallarta was declared a Mexico Clean Tourist Destination in 2016 by the Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa)—the first in the country to receive the designation—thanks to its excellent work in Integrated Water Management, Integrated Waste Management, Urban Infrastructure, and Natural Resources, among other aspects, verified through the environmental audit program. Nuevo Vallarta Industrial Park is operated by the Banderas Bay Trust (FIBBA).
EarthCheck
The fundamental pillars of the program are the efficient use of water resources, adequate use of energy, integral management of municipal solid waste, protection of biodiversity, air quality, care of green areas, and adequate management of hazardous substances.
The Fraccionamiento Náutico Turístico Nuevo Vallarta maintains the environmental management and continuous improvement programs that have allowed it to receive the international EarthCheck certification for four consecutive years.
In addition to Nuevo Vallarta, the Hard Rock Vallarta, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Grand Palladium, and Vidanta are also EarthCheck certified.
This management and reporting tool improves both environmental and business performance.
The "Heroes Wanted" ("Se buscan héroes") campaign was launched in 2015 in a joint initiative between Paralelo 28 and the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB). This campaign has undoubtedly been a milestone as far as conservation models in Natural Protected Areas (NPA) in the Pacific northwest, including the Marietas Islands and the world-famous Playa del Amor (Lover’s Beach).
"Heroes Wanted" Campaign
Page 16
Beach Cleanup Network (BCN) This unique network was created seven years ago and is made up of diverse groups of volunteers in the Riviera Nayarit, from BucerĂas to remote communities such as the Isla de MexcaltitĂĄn. In addition to the regular monthly clean-ups (beaches, streets, gullies, streams, riverbanks, vacant lots, medians, etc.), every year the teams hold a marathon cleanup with the participation of 1,500 people where they collect up to 29 tons of trash. The most common waste items they pick up are plastic bottles, cigarette butts, polyurethane containers, aluminum cans, wrappers, sanitary waste, and bits of fishing gear, among others.
Vallarta among the best destinations in Mexico with more certified beaches Puerto Vallarta is internationally recognized with five beaches of its certified by the Mexican Institute of Normalization and Certification A.C (Imnc). The destination has clean and safe beaches for the enjoyment of thousands of tourists during this December holiday period and the end of the year. The five beaches certified by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification are Holi Beach, Camarones, Conchas Chinas, Palmares, Mismaloya, Playa de Oro, and Sheraton, and according to the Subdirectorate for the Environment, they are working on increasing the certification of beaches, providing of greater safety and quality of water and hygiene. With the interest of safeguarding the safety of bathers, promoting the care and conservation of flora and fauna that inhabit the port.
Sustainable Events in the Mexican Caribbean
According to the World Tourism Organization, sustainable tourism is the one that has fully account for current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts to satisfy the needs of visitors, industry, environment, and host communities. Achieving sustainable tourism is a continuous process and requires constant monitoring, and must also report a high degree of satisfaction to tourists and represent a meaningful experience for them, to make them more aware of sustainability issues and encourage sustainable tourism practices.
Page 18
Save the reef As the largest living structures on the planet, coral reefs are home to 25 % of all marine species. they provide food, jobs, income, and protection for us. Climate change, pollution, tourism, and ocean acidification are threatening the life of these ecosystems. Learn about the restoration activities being conducted in the region, personalize a new home for the endangered elkhorn coral and adopt a new baby colony. The activity includes materials for personalizing the homes for new baby coral colonies for planting corals on them.
Real Change Through education Painting school rooms We provide all the necessary tools for participants to paint and interact with each other. This experience is enjoyed and can be done in a nearby school and or in a distant community, this is defined depending on the schedule and budget of the program, which range from renovation and painting for a section to the whole school. Evidence of the event is taken before, during, and after the event to show results achieved. Page 19
***Additional option – the recreation of the planting process in the pool with a unique reef pool model.
Capture the Colors of Mexico Photography Masterclass In this activity, participants will learn to take pictures with impressive results during their trips. It is not necessarily complex and expensive photographic equipment, with a simple cell phone, our specialists in nature photography will give you tips to obtain stunning images. During each workshop, we will teach the local communities and introduce low-income children and young adults to the fascinating world of photography.
Construction and repair Playground / Multipurpose Sports court / Basketball Soccer and Volleyball court. In this, there is an option to build repair or even paint the faded lines of the court. and the basketball board and basket hoop and/or donate various balls for the students.
Weed Cleanup and sustainable orchards
Page 20
Weed Cleanup and sustainable orchards There is an option to clean from garbage and also to plant and train someone to care for an orchard with plants that provide vegetables and teach children the care for the endemic plants. Depending on the school, some need uprooting some trees and trimming the tall weed or grass for the students' safety, since in some seasons there are dengue mosquitos that may cause dengue, and grass and water deposits help them reproduce.
Playground creation or rehabilitation Food & Beverages Food and snack stations are provided for participants and the option for the companies to donate a full lunch for the students by shifts. for smaller groups, we offer the opportunity to interact and eat with specific families at their own homes (This only for Mayan communities activities) Page 21
Different state of the art prefabricated playground sets to choose from for the kids from swings to monkey bars to climbing domes for the kids to interact during school recess. The playground sets are guaranteed to last for many many student generations.
Water and electricity repairs Due to the extremely humid and warm weather and poor maintenance, most schools require new electrical rewiring and or repairs. This affects the ceiling fans located in the school rooms. They also require maintenance, repair or older ones in some cases may need to be replaced. Also, the installation of new proper lighting may be as simple as light bulb replacements to be done. In regards to water, it may go as far as repairing current water pump systems that assist in the education of the correct health and hygiene of over 1000 students in total (including morning and afternoon schedules). Due to the heavy tartar in the water, the pipes tend to lock and make the water heavier with time. This work may be performed ahead of time to have restrooms clean and functional while performing the rest of the activities.
Construction or improving buildings or areas There is a need in some community schools to build school rooms due to the overcrowding of students given the increased number of inhabitants in Mayan communities and families. If you choose a school within the cities there is a lot of options for repair and adequation of certain areas to destiny them as a library, computer lab or workshop and or rehabilitate existing lunch areas which consist of tables in very bad shape. There is an option for building or repairing planters around the school rooms to avoid any student accidents.
Page 22
Interactive activities thru playing and handcrafting. For those participants that prefer to interact with the students over physical labor, we have various options for playing and handcrafting with the students, bilingual staffing is provided to encourage interaction between participants and students.
School Supplies or Bicycle or scholarship donations for excellent students You can bring backpacks, pencils, and notebooks from your hometown, or we may acquire them for you here to avoid any customs issues. Bicycle giveaways may be handed directly to the Mayan communities. During a short-stay, students may come to your resort and thru a team-building activity, you may assemble the bicycle tires and hand to the selected students as the price for their excellent grades. all our activities has Multiple IVI staffing according to the number of participants and CSR activities in order to know the process and always have meaningful work to do. With deep Impact and results with all the safety measures and logistics for both enjoyable state of the art transfer vehicles a and professional consultants for building painting and biologists that measure and study all year long the best locations with the most need to have options to choose from. Safety measures with first aid and CPR trained staff plus ambulance assistance throughout the activity available whenever required documentation and final report with photo and or video evidence. Among other options available.
Sustainable Events in
Panama
The desired scene of Panamanian tourism in the year 2025 is defined as follows: Be recognized as a world-class sustainable tourist destination, thanks to the extraordinary richness and diversity of its natural and cultural heritage, and the quality of its services. ¨A Sustainable City is a city that recovers and energizes its own life¨
Page 24
City of Knowledge Just a few minutes from Panama’s downtown and across from the Panama Canal, the 120 hectares and over 200 buildings of the former Clayton military base have been transformed into the City of Knowledge. Here, entrepreneurs, scientists, thinkers, artists, community leaders, as well as experts from the government, NGOs, and international organizations work together to develop initiatives that trigger social change. Annually this city hosts the Panama Jazz Festival.
Transportation Public transportation has been enhanced, by using low or non-polluting vehicles, thus allowing true alternative methods of transportation, equipped with a greater number of lines, destinations, and routes, with extended hours and frequency. Furthermore, the plan will develop more ecological initiatives for the use of individual transportation and will promote the use of bicycles and walking paths as a means to revitalize social life and access to green areas.
Infrastructure An estimated 37 projects are certified by the U.S. Green Building Council in Panama, and that around 70 projects are in the process of certification, among these are buildings and offices in Panama. There are several entities whose buildings are centered around being friendly to the environment.
Page 25
Sustainability of nature and culture (San Blas Islands) The sustainability of old Guna habits is preserved by older generations in their norms and values. Fish populations are kept under a keen eye with no overfishing or outsiders able to hunt or fish. The Guna’s even regulate the yearly hunt for lobsters so that the natural resource is never completed. The sustainability in San Blas Panama is an example for many other places in the world. You will not find any eco-resorts but you will find many eco-lodges in San Blas Panama. Almost every Kuna home is an ecologically friendly house or lodge that is built with natural materials found in and around the islands. Many of the islands do not support electricity and make use of only the items and facilities that nature offers them.
Page 26
Panama became the first Central American nation to ban single-use plastic bags Reducing the amount of garbage that is discarded, reusing certain items, and recycling elements such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and tin cans are essential steps towards a more human and sustainable future. The sorting process and use of proper waste management are also primordial.
"Embera" (Rainforest Keepers) The Emberas live in remote areas such as the Darien Province and west of Gatun Lake and riparian areas of the Canal Zone. The communities have adopted a regulation where they establish the purpose and conditions of residence and retreat from the community. The functions of volunteering, as well as the organization of the tourism and community-based organizations, for guidance has to be compliant by all of the residents. They also have a Tourism Regulation that determines the activities and conditions of the services to be provided by all residents. While Panama is known for its incredible beaches and rich culture, there are necessities in some of these rural indigenous villages. We can support the community in their sustainable tourism programs to generate income that will help maintain their lifestyle and promote environmental conservation. Page 27
Sustainable opportunities • A coordinated donation of overboard engines to these indigenous communities would be very useful considering transportation is essential. With good transportation, they can find food, education, medical attention and participate in tourism ventures. • The school in the villages lacks an adequate structure for the classroom, they teach on a ranch outdoors. • The development of a drinking water storage system is required to distribute to houses within the village. • Medicine supplies • Dental health supplies • Monetary donations
Page 28
When you take your convention, meeting or incentive to their annual trip, you want to make sure you created long-lasting memories. And what better way to make sure this happens than giving them something tangible to take back home that will remind them where they had such a wonderful adventure. We gather a collection of inspired designs crafted with love and detail using local materials (usually natural or recycled) by local artisans. Every purchase has an additional ingredient as part of it goes to “Amigos of the Planetas our contribution on your behalf to the care and preservation of nature.
Amigos de Sian Ka'an is one of the most important Non-Governmental Organizations in Mexico, dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Founded in 1986 with the original objective of preserving the newly established Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, an UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in Quintana Roo, Mexico, Amigos de Sian Ka'an has expanded its work scope beyond Sian Ka'an and Quintana Roo, encompassing the Eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula in the Mexican Caribbean. Amigos de Sian Ka'an is a proactive organization that does not use confrontation to reach its goal. Instead, it promotes solutions that balance the development of society and the preservation of natural resources through sustainable practices.
With more than 33 years of experience, Amigos de Sian Ka'an team is integrated by scientists and specialists, committed to the conservation of the most extensive tropical forests in Mexico, the largest underground rivers in the world, the most important wetlands in Mesoamerica and the second longest coral reef on the planet, as well as promoting the sustainable development of the communities along the Yucatan Peninsula. Natural treasures that provide environmental services such as freshwater capture, landscapes beauty, CO2 capture, coastal protection against hurricanes, among many other services that have enabled the development of the most important tourist destination in Latin America: Cancun-Riviera Maya.
The work carried out by Amigos de Sian Ka'an is based on state-of –the –art research developed by the NGO to promote public policies such as the decree of natural protected areas, or to design standards, environmental ordinances and urban development plans. Based on those policies, Amigos de Sian Ka'an works in collaboration with communities, entrepreneurs, authorities and students in order to increase the participation of society in nature conservation, through productive projects, the design of good environmental practices, as well as environmental education strategies.
Amigos de Sian Ka'an is a non-profit organization and depends on your donations to protect and preserve the Mexican Caribbean.

Doctor Travel’s cure for the common trip Pack essentials in your carry-on Recent stats indicate that, on average, at least one bag on every flight is lost or delayed. If there’s anything you can’t live without, pack it in your carry-on. This is especially true of items that are not easily or inexpensively replaced, such as running shoes or a lightweight raincoat.
