Happy new year! It felt like 2020 would never end, but at last 2021 is here. A new year, with new challenges. We can’t wait to discover all of the new adventures this year has to offer. And now it’s time for your favorite section of the CommuniQuest, “Flying Along with the I-Bee Squad”, where we talk about what we’ve been doing during the last month. In this one, we’ll be sharing all of our experiences we had in the last month of 2020!

First, we had a very productive online meeting with Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director at Los Cabos Tourism Board. We congratulated all his team for the great effort in promoting Los Cabos, and we’re glad to see this amazing destination take off!

We can’t wait to start working on the strategies discussed during our meeting.

Also at the beginning of the month, our associate, Jaime NELO had the pleasure to attend the HPN Global Partner Annual Conference 2020 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He shared with us that it was a very safe and amazing event. HPN Global demonstrated that in-person meetings can take place safely. It was a pleasure to see our partners with HPN Global, Bill Kilburg, and Jil Dasher; as well as Tania Corona from Omni Cancun Hotel and Matilde Pardo from Sheraton Buganvilias Puerto Vallarta.

Additionally, during December, we were invited to an online toast with Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach! They delighted us with a presentation of their upcoming hotels in the Riviera Maya. We learned about the beautiful new properties Fiesta Americana & Live Aqua Tulkal Riviera Maya.

Paradero Todos Santos Paradero Todos Santos, a 35-suite property will open on January 15, 2021. Todos Santos' debut marks the beginning of Paradero Hotel's longterm plan to expand its experience-inclusive brand throughout additional unspoiled destinations in Mexico.

Less than 50 miles from San Jose del Cabo Airport, Todos Santos has 355 days of sunshine per year and has become increasingly popular as a relaxed surf town and a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Paradero is spread across five acres of untouched land that is situated within the last unspoiled Mesa farming community - an agricultural area comprising 160 acres of family-owned farms.

Carmelina Iannarone

Director of Global Sales for Melia Hotels She is Canadian and has been in Cancun for more than 25 years; she is the mother of 2 children. She has worked for companies as Camino Real, Intercontinental, Le Meridian and since 2003 leading efforts oriented to MICE business for Melia Hotels. She loves to spend time with her family and enjoys this beautiful destination.

She states that Melia hotels are now open while maintaining mandatory safety protocols. Carmelina has been working vigorously alongside her team, and thanks to our advancements in technology, they have been able to stay motivated.

As a company, they spent the last months working on the mandatory protocols. ''Stay Safe with Melia'' is the program they implemented that dictates the cleanliness and hygiene obligations for every department; this program was certified by the company Buro Veritas . Conducting Group customer interviews and surveys helped them understand their expectations, and based on their findings, they launched the ''When you Come Back'' program.

Their destinations and hotels are ready to welcome clients and groups with all the protocols in place - they now feel safer than at home.

Dale Smith

Director of Sales & Marketing - Andaz Costa Rica Resort Dale is living in San Francisco with his partner Marlon. He has been in the industry for over 20 years, with an extensive track record that includes working with prestigious hotels such as W, Marriott, Four Seasons, Hyatt, and Andaz Costa Rica during the last four years. Dale loves Costa Rica, he enjoys going out into nature, visiting the parks, and hiking.

Costa Rica is showing some promising changes over the last couple of months as the country has established a clear plan that will allow every region of the world to travel to Costa Rica by simply taking a health pass survey and purchasing health insurance. Strong protocols are in place, and as a result, they are seeing an increase in visitors; having now groups on the books for the first quarter of 2021.

Andaz Costa Rica is now open, with their first groups arriving in January 2021. They have implemented mandatory protocols that extend from the airport to the hotel - every step of their stay.

In the Food and Beverage section, they have redesigned the space, contemplating social distances.

This includes re-adjusting menus, and working closely with the Health Ministry.

Jeremy ZuĂąiga

Destination Director IVI DMC, Costa Rica Jeremy began his career in the tourism industry helping his family in their lodge that was located in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. After that, he decided to get more involved in the business so he studied to be a naturalist tour guide. His passion for the industry propelled him to a world of growth opportunities, which led him to work for several companies during his career. His knowledge and a strong sense of customer service skills allowed him to be promoted to the sales and marketing department.

He shared that Costa Rica has done a great job; they have since opened its borders to every nation in the world. With open arms, Costa Rica is ready to welcome all visitors while enforcing protocols has become mandatory. Since opening its borders, Costa Rica has received 36,000 tourists with no reports of Covid - which says a lot about the strenuous work the destination has done.

He has recently been working in Conrad Punta de Mita Hotel since its pre-opening; now the hotel has been operating for 3 months. Jaime Nelo

Destination Director IVI DMC, Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit Jaime was born in Puebla, Mexico. He left home at the age of 17 to began his career in the hospitality industry. Having earned a degree in the hotel management field, Jaime has amassed experience in renowned hotels and resorts as well as with meeting planners, DMCs in Cancun, Mexico City, and Puerto Vallarta. He speaks seven languages and is a big fan of international cuisine at either a restaurant or in his own kitchen.

During our interview, Jaime explained the main highlights of Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit, stating Riviera Nayarit is an emerging deluxe destination with direct access from the US and Canada. He states, ''it’s a very accessible destination, with great prices and a very well-connected airport. It is perfect for going to the beach, but also for experiencing Mexico's traditional side''.
