CAR–TOON CORNER

Mr. Fix it is prepping some of his cars for an upcoming car show. It’s a beautiful and unseasonably warm Friday evening. He pops into his friend’s speed shop to pick up a new set of drag radials for his heavily modified 2004 Mustang Cobra “Terminator”. Having 697 horsepower at the wheels, he’s going through tires like he owns stock in the tire manufacturers. After waiting in a line and burning 2 hours of his evening, he finally checks out and proceeds to burn the remaining rubber off his tires on the way back to the garage where his brother Donnie is taking care of cleaning up his sister’s turbo Miata convertible. She recently

got caught in the rain with the top down, resulting in mold growing on the canvas top. He rolls up and hops out to see Donnie pacing back and forth in a panic. “Bro, what’s wrong???” “Dude, I screwed up.” Mr. Fix It sees it immediately. The convertible top is discolored and looks like it has been in the sun for 10 years straight. “WHAT THE HECK DID YOU DO, DONNIE?!!!!!!” “Bleach kills mold, man. So I used bleach on the canvas.” “No, you BLEACHED the canvas! What is going on in your head? Fire kills mold, too! Why didn’t you just set it on fire if you’re going to use that logic???” “I’m sorry dude. I didn’t know bleach could do that.” No time to waste, this show is tomorrow. Mr. Fix It runs in the house and up to his sister’s room. He grabs her black hair dye and

heads to the garage. An hour later, the top is unbolted and on the ground. He covers the entire canvas in the dye and rinses it out. “Man, I can’t believe that worked! Hahaha!” Three dollars worth of hair dye and a couple hours later, he saves the convertible top. Next morning he bolts the top back on and his sister Megan takes off for the show. She refused to let Donnie to go along with her. The Miata won best in class at the show. Nobody knew it had a hair dyed top on it. The top has since been replaced, and Donnie has not lived this one down. Moral of the story, don’t use bleach on convertible tops. No matter how moldy they are. Til next time,

I’m Mr. Fix It
