Kornisha McGill Brown Kornisha McGill Brown 27th National President Jack and Jill of America, IncorporatedTo us as mothers, Jack and Jill has become a means of furthering an inherent and natural desire...to bestow upon our children all the opportunities possible for a normal graceful approach to a beautiful adulthood.”
Marion Stubbs Thomas, FounderOUR ROOTS L
et’s Work, Let’s Play, Let’s Live Together
It all begin in Philadelphia in 1938, with a loving mother and a simple idea. Marion Stubbs Thomas approached a group of mothers with a vision for a new kind of club -- one focused not on the mothers themselves, but on stimulating social and cultural relationships among their children -- and instilling the values and leadership skills that would serve them well into adulthood. The concept was so inspiring it soon spread to other cities and states. In 1947, Jack and Jill of America was incorporated under the laws of the state of Delaware as a non-profit organization.
Today, Jack and Jill of America, is a nationwide organization with 262 chapters in seven geographic regions encompassing 39 states and the District of Columbia. Membership has grown from 20 visionary and loving mothers to over 17,000 mothers and associates, and more than 70,000 family members.

BEST BEST of the PROGRAMMING
Since our founding in 1938, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated has evolved into a strong national organization as a result of robust programming. Chapter Programming, the “heart” of the organization, is primarily centered on leadership development, awareness of cultural heritage, and community service. The philosophy we embrace is one of holistic enrichment of our youth and our communities.

PHILANTHROPY
CHARITY STARTS AT HOME
Making a difference for all children on mission and on purpose requires deliberate investment. Through their philanthropy efforts, mother members annually contribute as much as 67% of all funds raised, to organizations throughout their respective communities. The 33% balance is mandated by our guidelines to be earmarked for the Jack and Jill Foundation, Inc., the philanthropic arm of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated.
During the 2021-2022 program year, mother members raised over $2.8 million to support organizations in their communities, and the Jack and Jill Foundation, Inc. Close The Gap Fund and other Jack and Jill Foundation grant programs.
Donating to Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is partnering with an organization who believes that charity starts at home and demonstrates this sentiment by our investments in the communities in which we reside.
PHILANTHROPY
INTRODUCING THE JACK AND JILL FOUNDATION
Jack and Jill of America Foundation was established in 1968 as the philanthropic arm of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated to improve the lives of children, especially those in disadvantaged and underserved areas. Local Jack and Jill chapters execute the Foundation’s mission and are led by members who instill philanthropy and leadership ideals in their children. A large part of what the Foundation does is fund carefully-selected local organizations that can make the greatest impact on African American children and families.
MISSION
Our mission is to address issues affecting African American children and families, by investing in programs and services that create a strong foundation for children to thrive long-term.
Our vision is to transform African American communities, one child at a time.
There’s a real need in African American communities for a concentrated focus on root cause issues affecting long-term outcomes for African American children. We are committed to supporting services, programs and organizations that address underlying causes of social problems affecting African American communities, families and ultimately children.
During the pandemic Jack and Jill Foundation raised over 3 million dollars to support nonprofits in local communities. Providing access to vital educational programs to children from underprivileged communities would not be possible without donations. Among the uses of the money raised are: $10,000 to help kids in southeast DC study archaeology and $600,000 was provided in college grants to help 1,000 students stay in school.

CAROLE ROBERTSON DAY
September 15, 2023
Carole Robertson, one of the four little girls tragically killed in the Birmingham bombing was a member of the Birmingham, Alabama chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc...She was involved in many activities in her school and her community. At the time of her death, she was working with other students, across the city, on a project that was promoting unity and improved race relations in Birmingham.
The death of innocence was so profound for all Jack and Jill families across the nation that at our National Convention in 1964, it was decided to have a national day of recognition for the accomplishments and service that she was not able to fulfill herself. This commemorative day is carried on to the present, in every chapter, as a cornerstone opening up each new program year. Children participate in a service project and generally a chapter family outing.
To honor her legacy, and this day in the history of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. we will be planning a special 85 anniversary Carole Robertson day of observance, which will also fall on the 60th anniversary of the bombing.

To this extent, on an annual basis, regions host Regional Children’s Clusters. Children’s Cluster is for youth between the ages of 5-12. At the Children’s Cluster, youth participate in a host of leadership, STEM, and oratorical workshops, culminating in the Oratorical Contest.
