Greetings Jack and Jill Mothers,

Welcome to a special winter edition of EXECUCOM commemorating Jack and Jill of America Incorporated’s 85th Founders’ Day!

This is our first publication as the 2022-24 National Executive Board and we are honored to serve you.

We are delighted to celebrate 85 years of our beloved organization’s founding. In 1938, amidst the challenges of racism and The Great Depression, our founding and charter mothers united in Philadelphia with the mission of providing enriching opportunities and friendships for their children. In previous interviews and history books, Past National Archivist, Author, and Associate Mother Valada Flewellyn explains that Founders Marion Turner Stubbs Thomas and Louise Truitt Jackson Dench had admiration, trust, and the utmost respect for one another. Consequently, the idea for Jack and Jill was one born out of love and friendship. The founding mothers also demonstrated a harmonious sisterly relationship. It is the basis of this love and friendship that has sustained us for the past 85 years.

In this EXECUCOM edition, the 2022-24 National Executive Board decided to share remarkable moments from our 85th Founders’ Day Celebration and follow an example set by the previous administration of highlighting our dedicated committee members’ accomplishments. We are also celebrating new Jack and Jill mother members as well as the chartering of our 10 new chapters! New mothers, thank you for joining us in our commitment to nurture future African American leaders and your future contributions to the development of our organization.

In closing, the exceptional work that we do to serve children is a testament to the vision of our founding and charter mothers. The nurturing we provide as a “village” of mothers that helps our children succeed is a realization of their dreams. The love that we have for the children, one another, and our families was established from the beginning and should always remain in the center of our endeavors. May we continue to honor our founding mothers’ legacy with honor and dignity.

The Five Star Chapter Excellence Committee kicked off the new program year with a webinar outlining the criteria for Five Star chapter recognition in April 2023. Jack and Jill of America is honored now to have 81 chapters across all seven regions that achieved Five Star Recognition in 2022.

The keys to success for the program remain unchanged -- chapter vision, commitment, planning, organization, dedication and teamwork. This year’s evaluation process has been further enhanced since the program’s inception in 2008. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Streamlined and simplified assessment tools

• Standardized evidence performance requirements

• Star rating includes bonus points and a scoring range

• Mentoring support from module subject matter experts

• Increased support and buy-in at all levels; and

• Enhanced Five Star Chapter Awards and Recognition

NATIONAL PROTOCOL COMMITTEE

The National Protocol Committee, under the leadership of NEB Liaison National President Kornisha McGill Brown, has been busy ensuring consistency and continuity within our beloved Jack and Jill.

The committee established the following priorities to ensure the further enhancement of our protocol procedures:

• Member Protocol Trainings

• Development of a Photography Diagram

• Development of a platform for requesting National and Regional Officers

• Update Member Manual

• Develop a Protocol Chair Tool Kit

• Protocol Newsletter

• Utilize FOCUS for Protocol Pearls

• Reinstate Protocol Central on Digital Cheetah

To date, the committee has successfully completed the following priorities: Held their first National Protocol Training Webinar on 1/17/2023. During this webinar, the NEW Teen ceremonial attire, providing options for white and dark/navy attire that is gender neutral was introduced. Developed a Photography Diagram for officers on the National, Regional, and Chapter Level. Developed a platform in collaboration with our National Headquarters for requesting National and Regional Officers through the “Book Now” feature. In addition, the FOCUS newsletter now contains monthly pearls on Protocol, which will provide a consistent medium of communication as we collectively achieve, “Protocol Perfection.” Lastly, Protocol Central was reinstated to provide a hub for all protocol related matters.

NATIONAL STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE

As outlined in the Executive Summary of our Strategic Plan, In the Fall of 2017, the National Strategic Relevance and Value Committee (NSRVC) began working on a Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated strategic plan. With input from members serving at all levels in the organization, coupled with our objectives and aims, mission, and guiding principles, the Committee identified six strategic priorities. The six strategic priorities in this Strategic Plan are:

• Operational Excellence

• Membership Engagement

• Programming

• Strategic Partnership

• Legislative Advocacy

• Jack and Jill of America Foundation

Elevating our emphasis on keeping children at the forefront of all we do, further solidifies JJOA’s mission of developing the next generation of African-American leaders. The strategies outlined in the plan are designed to ensure mother members have a more consistent and satisfying Jack and Jill experience while continuing to work on behalf of all children as they contend with today’s challenging environment. Collectively, the six strategic priorities provide a roadmap for the future.

The first priority of the 2022-2024 National Strategic Planning Committee (NSPC) is to continually equip our chapters with tools and training vital to long-term sustainability.

The second priority is to ensure all chapters have completed an Initial Baseline Assessment. The NSPC will work with chapters to complete an annual SMART Goalsetting exercise which will also aid in identifying any new (S) strengths, (W) weaknesses, (O) opportunities or (T) threats.

The third priority is to engage the National Teen Board and Regional Teen Boards by encouraging them to set one SMART Goal for the next program year.

NATIONAL CULTURAL TRIP TASK FORCE

Let the Fun Begin! The National Cultural Trip Task Force has spent the year planning, programming, and powering forward to create an epic Greek Isle cruise experience for Jack and Jill families. This is the first cruise the organization will embark on since Covid-19, and the committee wants it to be an adventure. The Committee has set a theme: The Jack and Jilliad Greek Odyssey: A Sail Through History, which seeks to provide “a but for” Jack and Jill experience that allows the approximately 1,300 families set to sail with us the opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and marvels of Greece. Families will have the opportunity to visit everything from the Acropolis to the Celsius library.

TRIP OBJECTIVES

• Provide an educational and cultural experience for Jack and Jill families;

• Foster global citizenship and self-awareness abroad;

• Strengthen and expand connections with Jack and Jill families across the country; and

• Have fun (after all it is a cruise!)

Potential activities include: Pre board excursions in Athens (July 28th); Welcome and closing events; Curated experience in the biblical town of Ephesus; and Activities for children, tweens, teens, college alumni, associates, and fathers.

NATIONAL FOUNDERS’ DAY TASK FORCE

The National Founders’ Day Task Force, under the leadership of National President Kornisha McGill Brown, was charged with organizing celebrative festivities for our 85th Anniversary. The Founders’ Day event, held in Washington, DC from January 27-29, 2023, proved to be a resounding success — it was a celebration of the growth and achievements of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and of our incredibly strong legacy as the nation’s premier African American family organization. It was a time of profound reflection, as we came together from all seven regions, to fellowship in the spirit of our founders, who organized a small group of mothers in Philadelphia in 1938 that gave rise to a broader collective of family dedicated to the nurturing and advancement of ALL children. We thank all those who made the time to attend this historic event, and extend our sincerest gratitude to the entire Task Force for all of their efforts and sacrifices in bringing this event to fruition.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATES COMMITTEE

The 2022-2024 National Associates Committee hit the ground running. They have been primarily focusing on the current Mother’s Away From Home Project while also planning for additional changes that will be shared later this program year. They have worked to support the many members within each region. The Committee Members are:

Associates Jewels as they are affectionately known, have been busy supporting their chapters, chapter mothers, JJ

the emergency room, stayed with her while another Associate gave constant updates to the mother until she was discharged.

• Associates have taken JJ Alumni to Sunday dinner and on one occasion took a student to see her favorite NBA basketball player (Devin Booker) where she and her friend not only went to their first NBA game but saw Dr. J and few other famous people much to her delight.

• Associate Groups have been committed to continuing community service by donating and delivering 1,500 diapers and over 400 baby wipes to support a lowincome family and actively participate in programs that nurture and educate young women and girls struggling with challenging situations such as trauma and abuse.

Alumni and their communities. Here is a small sample of why Associates are truly Jewels. (I wish there was more space to share the full amazing stories of Associates)

• Associates have reached out to their JJ college students offering support, gifts or just a listening ear for mothers and students throughout the country.

• Associates have supported a local JJ Alumni who plays basketball by not only attending her game in full force but coming with gifts, she had her own JJ cheering section.

• Associates have answered the call from a mother whose college student needed medical care. Associate Jewels were on the task with precision. An Associate, who is also a physician, picked up the student, helped the student navigate urgent care and

• Associates Groups have gone on River Boat Cruises, Celebrated 35-year milestones, Spa Days and High Teas.

• Associate Groups have had golf and brunch outings and participated in Pink and Blue Table talk events alongside chapter mothers.

• Associate Groups have gone to Motown Musicals and many concerts and plays together.

• The Associate Groups have grown, we installed three new Associate Groups in the Fall with more to come.

Associates are busy and still a valuable resource for chapters, mothers, JJ Alumni and one another.

CONSISTENCY!

The Membership Committee heard Mother member’s requests for consistency! To bring consistency to the membership experience across the organization, the Membership Committee, led by Tamara Parker (Central Region) is focused on 10 key areas:

 Clarification of 1 in 4 requirements

 Shortening the Transfer process

 F.I.T. + C

 VP Toolkit Re-fresh

 Updating Governance Membership Classifications to mirror Digital Cheetah Classifications

 Creating a Process for Mother Reactivation

 Creating a Membership Transition Checklist

 Collaboration with Policies & Procedures and the Bylaws Committee to clarify language for eligible Prospective New Mothers

 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

 Streamlining the Processing of Legacy Applications

This dynamic committee of mothers meet weekly to discuss membership matters and communicate often with chapter vice presidents in their respective regions. Each day the Membership Committee works tirelessly to lead chapters through the many, and sometimes complex matters of membership. What a phenomenal group of leaders!

GROWING STRATEGICALLY TASK FORCE

The 2022-2023 JJOA Program Year ushered in 10 new chapters to this lustrous organization.

JJOA’s National Growing Strategically Task Force began the year with a pleasurable and entertaining introduction by all task force members from each Region. The task force also set exciting agendas and goals to keep in the forefront, including potential growth opportunities and sustainability within each Region.

SUSTAINABILITY

The Task Force has set several goals that will be achieved during this tenure. One of the goals the task force will develop is a mentoring program both Nationally and Regionally for the 10 newly installed chapters as well as with at-risk chapters. Of course, this cannot be done without continuous collaboration with the National Membership Committee and the Small and Mighty Task Force. With all working collaboratively, this initiative will allow sustainability and longevity within our organization. Each National Growing Strategically Task Force member has been assigned one or more chapters to mentor. The mentoring process will include monthly checkins, sending reminders for any upcoming National and Regional due dates, and providing guidance regarding chapter operations, programming, membership, and sisterly relations. We have also developed monthly round table discussions to allow open dialog to address concerns and promote best practices. The round table discussions will include the following topics: Leadership, Membership, Finance, Protocol, Programming, and Sisterly Relations. The first round table discussion entitled Leadership will begin in February, 2023.

GROWTH

With 10 new chapters newly initiated, the National Growing Strategically Task Force has been hard at work to take that number even higher. This task force’s main objective is to encourage longevity. Longevity allows Jack and Jill of America, Inc. to expand its mission. In order to do this, the task force has continued to work the previous data driven models (The Strategic Growth Plan) adopted by each region. We will continue to evaluate data as it becomes brand new to recognize potential growth opportunities. Interest groups are already beginning to be approved as a component of the chapter establishment process. Task Force members, along with the Membership Committee, will serve as a resource and provide standardized training as these mothers prepare their documents for submission to continue in their process of becoming a provisional group and then a newly installed chapter.

LEADERSHIP AND TRAINING DEVELOPMENT TASK FORCE

Leadership is intrinsic to the mission and purpose of our beloved organization. It is a core value that we, as mothers, labor to instill in our children. We desire our children to be the kind of leaders who guide and facilitate others to make a positive difference and contribute to the greater good. As mothers, we are our children’s first leaders. As such, we must devote ourselves to the desired standards we have for them.

The 2022-2024 National Leadership Training & Development (NLTD) Task Force is passionately committed to leveraging and building upon the phenomenal work done by our predecessors. We aim to develop and maximize the leadership talent of Jack & Jill Mothers by establishing a robust knowledge base, creating collaborative learning experiences, and providing frameworks to address leadership needs at all organizational levels.

2022-2024 NLTD Priorities

For JJOA Mothers:

• Develop a consistent and scalable cross-regional leadership curriculum that introduces members to leadership roles beyond the chapter level

• Create J&J Leadership profiles to serve as roadmaps for aspiring leaders

• Expand our leadership bench strength by acknowledging differences and understanding the impact leaders and supporters have on effective leadership.

For Chapter Officers:

• Increase the awareness and usage of fit-for-purpose resources and collaborative tools for chapter officers and leaders.

• Pilot a program for Chapter Presidents to collaborate and share information and insights among themselves

• Continue to leverage working groups to create, review and revise the Officer Toolkits

• Assess and develop a strategy to refresh and build new toolkits

For Emerging Leaders:

• Advance the Marion Stubbs Thomas National Leadership Academy. Continue the extended focus on leadership competencies, skills, and experiences that prepares emerging leaders for leadership at the regional and national levels.

• Evaluate the 2022 MSTNLA experience and use insights to inform the 2024 MSTNLA program.

• Monitor the progress of the 2022 MSTNLA mentorship experience at 6 and 12 months.

The Power to Engage:

Building A Sustainable Leadership Pipeline

We recognize that mothers have a finite time to be involved in Jack & Jill. To maximize their experience and ensure we have a sustainable pipeline of leaders, the 2022-2024 NLTD wants to equip mothers to take ownership of their membership experience and leadership journey. It will allow us to bridge both the unique leadership opportunities of Jack & Jill and our most precious resource, the children.

The Marion Stubbs Thomas National Leadership Academy (MSTNLA) is a comprehensive focus on leadership competencies, skills, and activities to prepare enthusiastic and experienced Jack and Jill members for leadership at the regional and national levels. Our goal is to create a broader, more intentionally-prepared pipeline for organizational leadership, ON MISSION and ON PURPOSE

MSTNLA SELECTION TIMELINE

SMALL AND MIGHTY CHAPTER SUPPORT TASK FORCE

The Small and Mighty Chapter (SaM) Chapter Taskforce has been off to a great start. It has been wonderful to work as the chair with Co-Chair Mara Ray-Jones (SER) along with the phenomenal mothers Kristina Jones (CR), Cesanee Johnson (FWR), Maria Bright (MAR), Gina Jones (MWR), and Giselle Smith Johnson (SCR). Our NEB liaison, NVP Sativa Leach Bowen, has provided support and guidance to help our Taskforce continue to commit to the success of SaM chapters.

GOALS

More than 30 percent of our Jack and Jill chapters have memberships of 25 Mothers and less. This Task Force will review the work of the 2022-2024 committee and design customized toolkits to aid small chapters in their development. The Task Force will work directly with small chapters in each region to provide mentoring and targeted operational support, align resources to ensure high-quality operations, offer tips for avoiding burnout, identify ways to work systemically with other small chapters to create networks and encourage stability; and assist chapters in achieving and maintaining quality growth. Who should apply: Former regional and national leaders, current and former chapter presidents, and vice presidents, especially those from Small Chapters that continue to flourish despite chapter size.

TASKS

The SaM Taskforce continued its work by preparing a survey for chapters with 15 or fewer mothers. The regional chairs connected with their identified regional chapter’s presidents and vice presidents via meetings and calls. The survey identified key concerns and allowed the chapters to voice their struggles and needs. The initial survey identified vital areas such as membership activities, intake plans, children’s activity attendance, and challenges.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Through the survey responses, the SaM Taskforce identified to provide support which are budgeting/ finance, convention attendance, sisterly engagement, Chapter 911, geographic footprint, chapter roles, and SaM programming. Each regional chair will develop specific engagement through their interactions. The Taskforce also collaborated to develop more intuitive processes to help these chapters at risk strengthen their chapter resolve and engagement.

INFORM PLAN PREPARE

The National Emergency Responders Task Force (NERTF) has worked diligently to create a plan and program for implementation at the national, regional and chapter levels of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. to assist our members, our families, and our communities. The goal of the Task Force is to enhance our organization’s resilience and help develop generations of prepared families and chapters. This is being accomplished through providing important and timely resources needed to INFORM, PLAN, and PREPARE for various emergency situations. This program year the Task Force has committed to distributing information each month from the Ready.gov Preparedness Calendar to help promote preparedness throughout the year. In 2023, we, as an organization, “Resolve to Be Ready”.

Our Regional Chairs have made it a priority to establish the presence of the NERTF in each of our regions as well as nationally. Thus far, we have provided timely information regarding Hurricane/ Tropical Storm/ Post-Tropical

Cyclone Ian and Hurricane/Tropical Storm Nicole, including much needed post storm assistance information. Information regarding “The Great Shake Out” earthquake drill, Winter Weather Preparedness, Holiday Fire Safety, and “Resolve to Be Ready 2023” was also shared regionally and nationally.

In an effort to increase the effectiveness of the NERTF, we are in the process of appointing state/ cluster coordinators and chapter representatives to help ensure that our members and their families are assisted as efficiently as possible. We are also looking forward to working with the Fathers’ Auxiliary to develop a webinar with important safety information for our Jacks and Jills and hope to be able incorporate safety preparedness in JJOA events going forward.

The NERTF is resolved to making sure JJOA has the tools necessary to INFORM, PLAN, and PREPARE - to ensure that we are ready for whatever may arise.

NATIONAL OUR HEALTH MATTERS TASK FORCE

At the start of the 2022-2023 program year, the National Our Health Matters Task Force, under the direction of our National Executive Board Liaison, National Treasurer Michele Henry-McGee, reported ready to serve!

The goals of the Task Force were to work in concert with other programs and program chairs on health-related topics, educate our mother members on health issues impacting our community, empower our mothers, and look for additional partnerships.

In early 2022, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to promote hypertension awareness throughout the organization as part of our “We Down with Low BP” initiative. To that end, the Task Force kicked off the 2022-2023 program year with the “AHA Module Challenge”. The challenge was rolled out at the National, Regional, and Chapter levels and encouraged mothers to MAKE THEMSELVES A PRIORITY by reducing their hypertension risk, eating healthier, and incorporating physical activity into their daily lives.

As part of the challenge, mothers were incentivized to complete the AHA modules within their regions (including local Area Work Day Clusters) and within their chapters for entry into raffles for amazing prizes. At the Regional and National level, prizes included spa gift cards, meal delivery gift cards, workout clothes, and even Pelotons! Chapters also got in on the action by raffling off various health-related prizes for their chapter mothers. The Task Force also provided “We Down with Low BP” water bottles and bags, as well as blood pressure screenings, at Area Work Day Clusters.

We also held two national webinars aimed at providing a “live” discussion of the AHA modules. The first webinar was held on November 1, 2022 and focused on hypertension risk and diabetes.

Our guest speaker was cardiologist, Dr. Bernard Ashby. On November 29, 2022, we concluded our webinar series with two guest speakers. Wellness Expert, Dr. Basheerah Ahmad, led the discussion on physical activity and Nutritionist, Umo Callins, led the discussion on salt and cardiovascular risk.

We rounded out the challenge with the dissemination of our “We Down with Low BP” newsletter in the weekly publication of the National FOCUS. The newsletter not only encouraged mothers to complete the modules, but more importantly, educated mothers on the impact of high blood pressure and encouraged them to get screened for hypertension.

The end of 2022 also saw the continued partnership between Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and Black Health Matters. As part of this partnership, a newsletter was disseminated to members in November focusing on eating healthy during the holidays, and health issues impacting our babies.

Over the past few months, the Task Force has been busy! While we started the program year focused on hypertension, look for us to continue to cover additional topics through other partnerships including the National Medical Association, the Ad Council, and The Red Cross, to name a few. In addition, while we have all learned to navigate through its challenges and adapt to our “new normal”, the Covid-19 pandemic is not over. As such, the Task Force remains committed to continuing to provide expertise and knowledge to the National Executive Board, as needed, to ensure that our families remain safe. We look forward to continuing to serve as we help educate and empower our mothers, on mission and on purpose. NATIONAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE

Jack and Jill of America, Inc.’s National Program Committee is dedicated to supporting the implementation of the National Thrusts: Cultural, Educational, STEaM, Civic, Health and Social-Recreation. The National Programming Committee works closely with its chapters throughout its regions to support their innovative programs. There have been a number of changes we have had to make over the past few years to deliver virtual programming to our children and mothers. We are committed to providing a high-quality in-person program in the coming year to encourage both our mother members and their children to rekindle relationships that may have fallen by the wayside during the time when they were separated by the pandemic. It has been the commitment of the National Committee to work closely with other committees as part of the effort to embrace togetherness so that the chapters will have access to enriching programming as a result of this effort; this includes, but is not limited to, collaborating with the We Are One Committee, the Community Service Committee, and the newly formed Curriculum Committee to ensure that programming is as inclusive as possible. Additionally, the National Program Committee places significant emphasis on establishing and nurturing strategic programming partnerships with other businesses and organizations, as it is essential for enriching chapter programming. Through the integration of these partners into our chapter programming, we will be able to access a network of reliable resources by increasing our access to these networks. By doing this, the chapters will be better equipped to improve the experience of our future Jack and Jill leaders. In addition, we will remain connected to what is relevant to our communities in the future. The chapters can keep up to date with the latest industry trends and best practices by participating in the programs. Programming, the heart of Jack and Jill, continues to be instrumental in our organization’s growth and development. Our founder, Marion Stubbs Thomas, wanted to bring together children for social and cultural experiences, and over time, this idea has developed into a strong national organization focused on the well-being of all children. The National Program Committee intends to carry on the legacy. Long, Live, Jack and Jill!

NATIONAL WE ARE ONE COMMITTEE

The We Are One National Task Force for differently abled children was established to guide chapters in developing inclusive programming that benefits all children. The goals of the Task Force being to educate, empower, encourage, and advocate. Under the leadership of IPNPD Shirell Gross, the efforts of the We Are One National Task Force included integrating program accommodations for all children; this work culminated when Mother members voted in favor of the Task Force becoming a regular standing committee of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. during the 45th National Convention. The National We Are One Committee was created to help all understand how Jack and Jill of America, Inc. can better understand the experiences of families with special needs children and recommend ways to better support them. This Committee continues to educate, empower, encourage, and advocate to move its work forward in its strides to make a difference for ALL children.

Under the leadership of National Program Director, Marvis Donalson, The National We Are One Committee commenced the 2023-2024 program year in partnership with the National Programming Committee for a special edition of Bedtime Stories. The November Bedtime Stories

featured Mother member Dr. Rachel Francis (Southwest Louisiana Chapter) reading her book “See Me Through My ABCs”. The book was written to provide parents encouragement and resources to help aid their child or children with special needs.

The Committee is actively providing support and encouraging further integration of inclusive and best practices within chapters, and Regions. One such support is encouraging and modeling the integration of Sensory Spaces, as introduced by the Task Force, during Jack and Jill conferences and events. A sensory space is a designated area which can support a child’s sensory preferences and needs. It is a space which aims to provide children with the individualized sensory input they need to self-regulate, so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.

The National We Are One Committee remains focused on building, training, and supporting Chapter Champions, Mothers and Teens. Likewise, this Committee continues to solicit member feedback to determine the best way that our Jacks and Jill’s with special needs can be fully engaged in a loving atmosphere that is sensitive and inclusive.

NATIONAL STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TASK FORCE

The 2022-2023 program year has been filled with opportunities to leveraging our partnerships as we continue to demonstrate our “Power to make a difference for all children. On Mission. On Purpose.” The National Strategic Partnerships Task Force is excited to share our accomplishments during our first year!

INTERNAL ADMINISTRATION

• Partnering with ED Elizabeth, Special Projects Manager Kristjen, NP Kornisha, NPD Marvis and the rest of the NEB, we have developed a fabulous sponsorship package that highlights the best of what Jack and Jill has to offer to potential partners.

• With the guidance of NPD Marvis, we distributed the tasks of managing partnerships to Regional Members at Large, Regional Program Chairs, and Regional Strategic Partnerships Task Force Members to ensure all aspects of our MOUs are being achieved.

• The NEB and ED Elizabeth, reviewed the status of our MOUs to ensure that all were up to date or had been updated for the current program year.

PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT

• We continued our outreach by developing a list of potential partners.

• The Task Force developed procedures for engaging our partners when they attend our events.

• Task Force members, Chair Kassandra, Chair Cynthia and Chair Michon, accompanied our sponsors, Prudential, AARP and Bristol Myers Squibb, during the 85th National Founders Day Celebration.

• We were able to partner with Foundation to recognize our partnerships with UNICEF and March of Dimes during the 85th National Founders Day Celebration.

NEW PARTNERSHIPS

• We have secured MOUs with Prudential, UNICEF and AARP.

• In the process of renewing our Spelman and Morehouse partnership and look forward to hosting another summer of Jacks in the House and Jills Take Spelman!

The National Technology Committee has hit the ground running this program year. Closing over 97 Digital Cheetah help-desk tickets and providing Tech Support for 25 National webinars. Our Regional Technology Chairs have also been a resource in regions supporting Area Workdays, Teen Leadership Conference planning, and providing Tech Support and Best Practice guidance to Chapter Technology Chairs. Our National Technology committee sits in weekly being advocate and user testers for Digital Cheetah improvement and implementation. We are working diligently to improve processes and streamline tooling that will trickle down to our chapters.

ALUMNI CONNECTIONS TASK FORCE

This membership year, the National Alumni Connection Task Force was formed to assist Jack and Jill Alumni transitioning from high school to college, work, or any other post-Jack and Jill experiences. This Task Force has been charged with exploring the strategy, resources, and requirements necessary to expand this initiative nationally.

FIRST-YEAR TASK FORCE GOALS:

1. Conduct confidential exploratory research through a comprehensive survey delivered to Mothers and Jack and Jill Alumni to collect quantitative and qualitative data that can be used to create a strategic plan to identify and develop “exclusive” Alumni opportunities such as:

• Internships

• Job Placement

• Mentorships

• Graduate/Professional School Programs and Scholarships

• Social Events

• And additional benefits

2. Collaborate with external partners (i.e., colleges and universities), current Jack and Jill families, and tenured Jack and Jill families to explore and pilot “pipeline” opportunities (internships, scholarships, etc.) for Jack and Jill Juniors, Seniors, and Alumni.

3. Identify additional opportunities to generate connections between Jack and Jill Alumni and their local Jack and Jill Chapters.

To date, the National Alumni Connection Task Force created a guidance document and a checklist to aid in discussions and negotiations with colleges and universities, and corporations desiring to connect with Jack and Jill Teens and Alumni. The purpose of these tools is to support the establishment of tangible and meaningful connections with our members while ensuring the protection of our personal information. These opportunities include potential admissions pathways, scholarships, internships, job opportunities, etc.

Our primary focus over the last several months has been to create a survey for mothers and alumni as the first line of information gathering. We began this work by setting our survey objectives and crafting the questions. Our next step is to test the survey internally and then with a pilot group. We plan to launch the survey to Mothers by the end of Q1 2023 via Digital Cheetah. In addition, we are researching secure and accessible platforms to launch the survey to our Jack and Jill Alumni. We envision the potential results of this important work including, but not limited to:

FATHERS’ AUXILIARY

We are thankful for the opportunity to support this organization and are appreciative of your acknowledgement of our impact.

The Sensational Fathers Auxiliary Committees across the nation work together to provide support to mothers in the many events that take place locally, regionally, and nationally. We feel the primary effort starts at the chapter level. Without the dads participating at the chapter level, the fathers’ Auxiliary will not be as effective. To have the participation of the fathers requires Mothers to encourage the fathers to be involved in planned activities. Without this encouragement and cooperation, it will be almost impossible for the fathers to start an auxiliary. With that, we kick off the year by presenting a presentation to the committee members that outlines who Jack and Jill is, the organizational structure, and what the organization is and is not and cascaded these details throughout their Respective regions. We also met with the Emergency Responders Task Force committee leader to begin developing a Gun Safety Webinar. Additionally, we have been in discussion for ways to develop programming for dads during the various Jack and Jill meetings and conventions. NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE

The 2022-23 JJOA Program Year began with significant legislative and social developments.

JJOA’s National Legislative Committee began the year with an ambitious and enriching agenda to keep Mother Members, Jacks, and Jills meaningfully engaged in the many legislative opportunities before us and the 118th Congress of the United States of America. JJOANLC set its agenda to support and encourage programming around the robust national Legislative Aims and Thrusts which include: Voting Education and Awareness (The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021), Support for the Crown Act (Support the #TheCrownAct. com), Gun Control and Stricter Gun Laws (Raise the Age Act & Keep America Safe Act), Policing Reform (George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021), & Mental Health Awareness and Education (Join NAMI’s Stigma Free Campaign).

Through its Regional Legislative Chairs, JJOANLC advised and encouraged JJOA chapters to adopt rich legislative programming in accordance with the legislative aims and thrusts. Nationally, soon after appointment, the JJOANLC embarked upon a Week of Legislative Action which provided Mothers, Fathers, Teens, Children, and Associates from across the nation to take action in small but meaningful ways in advance of the November 2022 election, members and families were able to write letters to their Congressional Representatives and Senators asking to pass some of the key legislative priorities

supported by JJOA, take important action regarding direct voter contact such as canvassing, phonebanking, & texting, and attending an informative session with author Andrew Aydin, former aide to Congressman John R. Lewis. Engaging in local and national communities provided JJOA with collaborative opportunities to engage with legislative partners across the nation.

Additionally, earlier in the summer of 2022, the previous JJOANLC presented its biennial Legislative Luncheon at the 45th Annual Jack and Jill of America National Convention entitled: “The Power of A Dream Through Legislative Action” featuring emcee Secily Wilson. This event included greetings from Mayor Muriel Bowser and Congresswoman Val Demmings, the honoring Jasmine Burney-Clark, a nonprofit leader, the President’s Grant Award to the Children’s Defense Fund, an informative Mayor’s Panel entitled “Re-Imagining Our Cities through Policing Reform” with the iconic Houston, Texas, Honorable Mayor Sylvester Turner and St. Petersburg, Florida, Honorable Mayor Kenneth Welch, and the “Legislative Year in Review” Video for all to enjoy the amazing accomplishments of the committee during their 2-years of service. The luncheon culminated with The Best in Legislative Programming Awards presented by the JJOANLC to the following chapters:

Finally JJOANLC has been consumed with the planning and organization of what will prove to be another landmark On the Hill Legislative Summit 2023 for its Jack & Jills as it continues the rich tradition of introducing its teens to the intricacies and personal nature of advocacy in the United States Congress. On the Hill 2023 will be an EPIC legislative summit like no other in recent JJOA history. With safety protocols lifted, JJOANLC has planned for its teens to fully experience pre-Covid in-person legislative meetings, issue advocacy training, Q&A sessions with civil rights leaders, news and media correspondent engagement, a social justice rally, interactive community service, and so much more. Be on the lookout for advance registration for the OTH 2023: “The Power of Advocacy” as well as even more regional specific programming during the upcoming year.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES COMMITTEE

The National Policies and Procedures Committee is a standing committee that is comprised of members representing each of the seven regions. The principal purpose of our committee is to revise and maintain the National Policies and Procedures Manual in accordance with our National Constitution and Bylaws.

The 2022-2024 National Policies and Procedures Committee got off to a swift start immediately following committee appointments in September. Members of the committee collaborated with their predecessors and National Constitution and Bylaws Committee counterparts in their respective regions to educate members on governance matters at fall area workdays. Simultaneously, the committee commenced the process of modifying and amending the National Policies and Procedures to align with and provide clarifying details concerning the bylaw amendments that were adopted at the 2022 National Convention. In compliance with one of those bylaw amendments, which now requires that National Policies and Procedures revisions be presented to the membership within ninety (90) days after the national convention, the 2022-2024 National Policies and Procedure Manual was distributed to the membership on November 1, 2022.

On an ongoing basis, the National Policies and Procedures Committee collaborates with the National Constitution and Bylaws Committee to respond to requests for governance interpretation at the national, regional, and chapter levels.

The National Policies and Procedures Committee is in the process of finalizing a National Policies and Procedures Toolkit, which will be rolled out in Digital Cheetah. Among other things, this toolkit will include an enhanced version of the ChapterLevel Policies and Procedures Toolkit, providing chapters additional guidance on the policies and procedures drafting process. All members of the National Policies and Procedures Committee will work closely with chapters in their respective regions that are interested in drafting and implementing policies and procedures at the chapter level.

On January 24, 2023, the National Policies and Procedure Committee hosted a webinar for

all members—“Policies & Procedures: Updates Overview.” The committee will provide an overview of the updates made to the National Policies and Procedures Manual, which were required to implement the National Constitution and Bylaws amendments that were approved during the 2022 National Convention. The committee introduced the National Policies and Procedures Toolkit and its various components.

For the remainder of the 2022-2023 program year, the National Policies and Procedures Committee will take direction from the National Executive Board and the National Advisory Council regarding critical changes to the National Policies and Procedures Manual that need to be addressed prior to the 2024 National Convention. The committee will draft and analyze proposed language to address any needed critical changes and will confer with the National Executive Board and the National Advisory Council for approval.

JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA,

NATIONAL GOVERNANCE TASK FORCE

The National Governance Task Force (the “Task Force”) is an ad hoc committee created by the National President. It is comprised of a representative from each Region, the National Bylaws Committee Chair, the National Policies and Procedures Committee Chair, the National Parliamentarian, and two additional advisors selected by the National President. The Task Force reports to the National President through their liaison, the National Corresponding Secretary.

The purpose of the Task Force is to support our leadership and membership in understanding, reviewing, drafting, analyzing, and applying our governance. We endeavor to realize our purpose by 1) reviewing our body of governing documents for alignment and clarity; 2) educating our governance leaders at every level of the organization; and 3) engaging the membership in a National Constitution and Bylaws revision process.

The 2022-2024 Task Force was fully engaged in mid-October 2022 when the National Executive Board formally adopted a Resolution recommending that the National President create a National Bylaws Revision Task Force (the “Bylaws Revision Task Force”) to work with the National Bylaws Committee to prepare a Draft Proposed National Bylaws Revision (the “Draft Proposal”) to be considered at the 2024 National Convention. Please note that the National Governance Task Force and the Bylaws Revision Task Force are comprised of the same team members. Since that time, the Bylaws Revision Task Force has been working with the National Bylaws Chair and the National Corresponding Secretary to develop a program of workshops designed to engage the membership for direction and feedback on the Draft Proposal. Said draft will be submitted to the Executive Board in September 2023 which shall vote to approve or disapprove of the Draft Proposal.

WHAT’S NEXT?

January 1-August 31, 2023: The Bylaws Revision Task Force will host meetings with the membership and leadership to provide them with an opportunity to submit their ideas, feedback and advice regarding “who we want to be” as an organization. The intention of these meetings is to work collaboratively with the body to create a draft of the revised National Constitution & Bylaws that supports the work of this organization and that reflects our vision and values.

On a monthly basis, the National Teen Board hosted “Drop the Mic” webinars, taking on topics of interest to our future leaders -- addressing current issues involving systemic racism, self-esteem, decision-making, mental health and college preparation.

NATIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

The National Public Relations Committee continues to educate all Jack and Jill of America, Inc. mothers on the proper use of the national logo.

At the beginning of the 2022-2023 program year, each committee member spoke to chapter editors in their region about not altering the logo and the importance of branding. The way to protect Jack and Jill’s branding starts with each mother-member. The NPRC continues to approve chapter and event logos as well as spot check logo usage on social media and websites and notify chapter presidents if a logo isn’t in compliance.

During our tenure, the NPRC will work to make sure the license vendors use the logo correctly. The committee plans to hold a meeting with the vendors to discuss merchandise and a refresher on the usage of the national logo. We want

mothers to shop with ease and not have to worry if the items they are purchasing have the proper logo.

We will also continue to work with chapters, assisting the National Executive Board and Communications Manager Candace Moore, with messaging, media relations and branding. We will create a PR toolkit in order for chapter presidents, editors and PR chairs to have a place to go to find logos and information on branding on Digital Cheetah. The NPRC continues to create frames for major initiatives including Prematurity Awareness Month, 85th Founders Day and JJ Goes Red.

The goal of the NPRC is to make sure the Jack and Jill reputation of being a premier African-American family organization stays intact through the proper use of the logo.

NATIONAL HISTORICAL TASKFORCE

The National Historical Task Force is committed to preserving the national organization’s rich history for future generations. We are dedicated to finding, collecting, preserving, documenting, and archiving Jack and Jill of America, Inc.’s rich history.

COMMITTEE GOALS

National Regional Task Force Members will assist chapters in understanding the importance of preserving and archiving their chapter documents. We’ll inspire families and chapters to proactively capture, share, and preserve their JJ story. The committee will provide history preservation tips & tools to assist chapters. We will increase the dialogue concerning best practices by partnering with archivists and museum experts who will engage the national organization via webinars. The committee will provide bi-monthly newsletters to communicate best practices for historical preservation and archiving. Our committee will assist at the national and regional level while providing artifacts, photos, and other Jack and Jill treasures

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The National Historical Task Force will assist the 85th Anniversary Committee with collecting and displaying photos for display and assisting with the 85th Anniversary Skit. We have secured professional archivists and museum curators for future webinars. The Regional Quilt Project will be on display in Washington DC. We want to secure a storage facility that will allow the organization to archive historical artifacts for future national museum displays. We will oversee 46th Jack and Jill of America, Inc. National Convention Museum in 2024 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
