FUSION EVENTS SPECIAL OFFER 10% OFF ANY BOOKING FOR 2014 Fusion Events provide premium audio, lighting and décor services for the events industry, with a specialisation for weddings. They deliver all across the UK with full installation and support to ensure the co-ordination of your event runs smoothly. Some of their services include vibrant LED furniture which can create an inviting atmosphere for your guests, bespoke room décor such as hanging lanterns, and table centres. More recently, Fusion Events have created their very own vintage range. Andy (Founder of Fusion Events) has always had a passion for music and lighting.
He started out as a young DJ in local pubs and clubs. In 2008 he setup his own Mobile Disco company for weddings and parties. Andy always looked for ways to make his setup interesting, but little did he know that the introduction of two LED mood lit cocktail tables would be so popular that it would lead to the successful events company that exists today. Fusion Events’ favourite product at the moment is their carnival-style letters! Check them out on this page. They will put their expertise together with your ideas and inspirations to make sure your special day is given that extra-personal touch.

We are coming into spring and summer and we all know they are seasons bursting with beautiful and vibrant colours. So why not go ahead and bring your wedding to life with colour- I’m talking bright blues, pinks and sunny oranges. To mimic the changing seasons, use an abundant amount of flowers. These can be scattered everywhere in a variety of different shades, for example the bridal bouquet can be made up of differing flowers such as pink lilies, brightly coloured freesias and even different colour roses. Some florists stock an array of different colour roses like purple and yellows which give a twist on the usual romantic white rose. I think it’s a really cool touch to have your bouquet almost clashing with a mixture of wild flowers next to more traditional floras all in different colours- it will be unbelievably eye-catching! Birds of Paradise can also line the
dining table in coloured vases or sit at each end of a buffet table; these are the ultimate exotic flower! The same can be applied to wedding favours. You could offer champagne glasses which are frosted in a colour of your choice or engraved with a message on the front in neon writing. If you want slightly smaller favours, have personalised bags full of brightly coloured sweets such as flying saucers with a message inside- this is fun, looks great and is a yummy treat for your guests! The colours you have chosen for your flowers or even your favours can mirror the decorations of the wedding. For example pick the stand out colour from your flower bouquet like neon pink and use this as your main colour scheme for the decor. This way everything else you add will literally be a splash of colour and will really stand out as well as complement the surrounding decorations.

RAINBOWS
If you as the bride want to keep your dress simple and classic, why not dress your bridesmaids in bright colours- the pictures will look amazing! If you have children as part of your bridal party, dresses which have a tutu effect are uber cute for the girls and are available in colours such as bright turquoise. The little tutu design could be a differing colour to the top part of the dress or a continuation of one colour, either way the kiddies will melt the hearts of all your guests. If the children are boys, they could wear a bright coloured shirt under their little suit or if you want them to wear a traditional white shirt, you could add a
colourful rose or flower to their suit blazer to add a pop of colour. To really take the neon theme to the maximum, your bridesmaids could wear different coloured dresses so effectively they would look like a rainbow of colour whenever they stand next to each other. Or another idea is the bridesmaids could all wear the same colour dress but have a differing colour bow which clinches in the waist. If this seems too much (even though you can never have enough colours!) you could choose pastel colours like baby pink or even traditional white attire and then add a coloured bow around the waist or at the back of the dress.
PAGE 13
ACCESSORISE Accessories will liven up your chosen outfit and can tie in with your particular colour theme. Look out for statement necklaces, earrings and bracelets in colours of your choice such as emerald greens or blues. The whole bracelet or necklace doesn’t have to be bright though- you could choose a traditional silver or gold chain and then add a colourful pendant or charm to it which adds a
little colourful sparkle yet does not overpower the whole outfit. Or your jewellery could be simple and then your earrings could add that much needed hint of colour- go with whatever you feel works with everyone’s outfits. Hair accessories are also a fun idea and seeing as bright colours are what we are going with, look out for head pieces which perhaps incorporate colourful flowers- this can be placed at
the side of your head to add a glamorous touch. Or if subtly is more your thing, there are some great coloured diamanté hair clips out at the moment which can be placed in a side bun for example, adding a pop of colour but will not be overpowering. Neon accessories can come in a rainbow of colours and styles so experiment with a variety of items to see what works best!

Calidad Creations – Effortless Elegance www.calidadcreations.co.uk 07780 326 650 Calidad Creations is a small Liverpoolbased business, creating beautifully handcrafted jewellery, using Swarovski crystals, semi-precious gemstones and high quality glass pearls. Their stunning designs attest to their mantra of “Effortless Elegance,” and can be worn for all occasions. Owner, Jan Greatbanks, started her business making jewellery around 10 years ago; and with increasing sales at Craft Fairs, she began to invest more and more time in it until she became a full-time Designer 3 years ago. Her range of All-Occasion jewellery was extended in 2011 when Jan moved specifically into Bridal jewellery, and her pieces were stocked in wedding shops. The wedding range not only caters for the blushing Bride,
but also her Bridesmaids and Flower Girls including beautiful bangles with “Bridesmaid” charms on them and cute Flower Girl sets comprising a heart-shaped basket, a bangle with a “Flower Girl,” charm on it and a beaded hair-band. Check out the full range at www.calidadcreations.co.uk. Of all her pieces, Jan’s current favourite is the “Sophie,” necklace (named after her daughter). She tells us, “I love experimenting with the crystals and glass pearls and this piece just epitomises Calidad Creations; elegant yet easily wearable for any occasion.” In offering a first-class service to all her clients, Jan is more than happy to alter designs to meet your specific needs. She tells us, “One Bride to be
had six Bridesmaids all in different colours and she wanted them represented in her jewellery, so we worked together and incorporated all the colours using Swarovski crystals and the end result was an outstanding, totally bespoke piece, with special significance for that bride. I love it when a client sets me a challenge. If you’ve something in mind, don’t be shy, just ask.” Without a doubt, their clients’ happiness is absolutely paramount; and this shines through in the highly professional yet warm and friendly service. All Calidad Creations’ jewellery can be found at: www.calidadcreations.co.uk and Jan can be contacted on 07780 326 650.

150TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS@ To celebrate the 150th
anniversary of a business that has grown from a humble draper’s shop opened in 1864, to a £4 billion international, award-winning business it is today; John Lewis Leicester is pleased to announce plans for a series of commemorative events. Kicking off on 3rd May, the shop in Highcross Leicester, will host a number of activities and charity initiatives working in partnership with Barnardo's. Anna Moir said ‘Partners at the store have selected the Saffron Sure start centre as their local barnados project to support this year.’ ‘Fundraising will begin imminently behind the scenes in staff areas with bake sales, raffles and tombolas. We plan to hold an event on the shop floor in June for our customers to come together and join in with the fundraising.’ In a series of firsts, John Lewis Leicester’s fashion department sees the launch of Orla Kiely’s first menswear range, exclusive to John Lewis. The electrical department has teamed up with the iconic Henry Hoover
brand to offer John Lewis customers the opportunity to buy a ‘John’ or a ‘Lewis’ Hoover, and in its home department the retailer’s own design studio pays homage to the brand’s design history by taking key heritage prints from the archives and using them on modern products. The week will also see the launch of a series of national events, as well a special 150th anniversary television advert. An interactive and immersive exhibition will open in the Oxford Street store, showcasing everything from the original book of the store’s first taking, to a glimpse into the setting of John Spedan Lewis’ office where the John Lewis Partnership was born. In a first for a retailer, the Oxford Street flagship will also open its roof to London. Working with Tony Woods, Royal Horticultural Society National Young Designer of the Year, and the Partnership’s own gardeners from the Longstock estate, one of the capital’s largest urban rooftops will be transformed.

Your menu can really bring to life the ‘neon’ theme, particularly the dessert course (my favourite part). You can have neon coloured cake stands in pink, yellow and green scattered on the dessert table piled high with cupcakes decorated in brightly coloured icing. This will catch your guests’ attention and make the cakes look even more appetising. Sorbets are also a great dessert idea as they always come in fantastic colours. Bright raspberry and orange colour sorbets will look amazing on the plate and the plate can even be decorated with edible flowers such as purple pansies for the ultimate colourful touch. Ice lollies are another idea and will be especially apt coming into the summer months. Once again, they can come in endless flavours and as a result endless colours! It will almost take your guests back to their childhood; perhaps choosing their sweet treat from the ice-cream van- bright
colours can evoke feeling and therefore make the food look irresistible. For starters and main courses, vegetables can be just as vibrant and I’m sure your caterers have all the tricks in order to keep the ingredients looking fresh and their natural bright colour. For example carrots can be added as a side dish to the main course however keep the green stalk on- the contrast between the green and the orange of the carrot will look great. This is only simple but making small touches like that are really effective and allow you to have fun when creating your menu. A starter idea is a Caprese salad which includes mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. You could feature red, orange and yellow tomatoes and then scatter the plate with vibrant green herbs; again the contrast in colours will look divine. Converse with your caterers and share your colourful vision to achieve the exact look you’re dreaming about.

Music is what gets the party going, and seeing as your wedding day is going to be filled with colours galore, your music should match up to the fun atmosphere you have created. Neon lends itself to the summer season so the music can have that chic Ibiza feel or you could go completely back in time and use old classics such as ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’ by the Beach boys! A mix of old and new tunes is always a winner so you could create a CD full of all your favourite music and give it to the DJ. In terms of entertainment, there are wedding
companies who offer neon dance shows. Dancers are in costumes which glow in the dark, and special LED technologies are incorporated which will amaze your guests. Obviously weddings are known for their amazing drunken filled parties which filter into the following morning, so to make it fun for your guests when they are dancing on the dance floor, why not leave glow sticks on the table for your guests to twirl around in the air when they are dancing to some old school classics. This will create such a cool effect in the pictures too!

GLOW “
A ‘Neon’ theme lends itself fabulously to bridal make-up- you can be creative and experiment with amazing colours which in my opinion is so exciting! Not everyone is confident wearing a bright lip but I think you have to compromise on this occasion, it is a definite must. A vibrant pink lip looks great on olive and darker skin tones as they really compliment tanned complexions. If you are slightly fairer yet still want to rock the pink lip look, choose a shade which has baby pink or rosy undertones rather than a pinkie coral base as this will bring out the gorgeous rosy flush found in paler skin. There are some amazing coloured lipsticks out this season, particularly in Mac who have every neon shade under the sun to try. As well as the obvious pink lip, oranges and reds look great too as they really brighten the face- just be sure to ask for advice and pick a shade which suits the undertones in your skin. You could team your lip with beautiful eye-shadow- if you’re really daring, your eye-shadow could clash with your lipstick which gives an
editorial effect seen in a lot of magazines lately. If it is skilfully done, your whole face will literally come to life and look glowing- highlight the cheeks with a shimmering highlighter such as Dior’s Rose Diamond or Benefit’s ‘Watt’s up’ to achieve even more glow to your face. If you would prefer to wear a nude lip, really make the most of your eyes with bright colours such as blues or purples and then use a bright blush on your cheeks. You can capture the theme of neon in any way you like- as long as there are bright colours somewhere on the face! I think a nice touch is whatever colour you have on your lips or eyes, try to incorporate into your hair. For example you could wear flowers in your hair which match your makeup or you could wear a brightly coloured headpiece. Accessorize and Monsoon are doing beautiful bridal headpieces at the moment! Or, if you have your hair up in a bun-like style, you could place different coloured diamonds into the bun which would look stylish and unusual. There are limitless options, just be creative and have fun.

ASK THE EXPERTS PRECIOUS METAL CHOICE Choosing a precious metal colour for your wedding rings is more complex than simply deciding between yellow, white or red. Yellow gold increases in richness with the carat; 9ct is pale yellow with 22ct being almost orange. Red (rose) gold is redder in lower carats as there is a higher percentage of copper in the alloy. Often what people think of as the colour of white gold is rhodium plating, a bright cold white colour, but this plating will rub off over time, sometimes in as little as a couple of months. This can give the appearance of ‘tarnishing’ and can be disappointing. The colours of the white gold alloys are very interesting so it is a shame they are often covered up with rhodium. 9ct white is a bright very pale yellow spring tone and modern 14ct and 18ct white gold alloys usually include palladium which darkens them to autumnal browns - classy and understated. Palladium is a dark wintery grey and platinum is a bit warmer and brighter; both are harder than gold. The colour, weight and strength of platinum makes it the most valuable, and gives a durable clean, crisp white that the other options cannot.

JEWELLERY DESIGNER/MAKER
I am all over some serious accent colour-action this season to really bring a celebration to life - Rio style! Be as loud and proud as you like, by adding in a splash of neon to instantly bring a vibrant touch of carnival to your wedding styling, which can even act as an inspiration point for your theme as a whole. From food to fashion, why not create a summer soiree none of your guests will ever forget. Cue the showgirls, sangria, steel brass band and even a spot of samba! Traditionally of course, we associate neon colour-ways with the eighties era, so maybe it’s time to get out your wham bars, slip on those leg warmers and start high-kicking like your living Flashdance all over again. I was also going to mention the rave era, but not sure if that might be taking things a little far for your Auntie Bet and Uncle Bob to handle! For those of you wishing to opt for something a little more subtle, the bright stuff is also perfect for adding a little depth to the wedding cake, venue decoration and even your floral bouquets.
