OF THE

DEAD

What, I hear you say, A theme based on the Mexican Holiday: Dia de Los Muertos? All Hallows Eve – The day where the veil between this world and the next is at its slightest. The day when the souls of the dead of our loved ones are said to roam the earth?

KEYWORDS TO SEARCH: Autumn wedding, day of the day wedding, day of the dead bride, winter wedding, marrigold wedding, bride, groom, steampunk, snowy wedding, winter photography, winter makeup,

Yes, absolutely! what fun, what a quirky way to celebrate, perhaps with a skull and rose inspired wedding cake. A purple haired bride and fake tattoo's for your guests, what a creative and vibrant way to celebrate your big day. Themed weddings aren’t to every bodies taste but they can be done beautifully with a bit of imagination. Get your creative juices flowing and guest participation on the go. Stylish doesn't always come in the form a white dress and vintage car! Imagine the bride and groom and mini vampire bridesmaids, photographed in full vintage ensemble, against a backdrop of Autumn leaves, wow! The colour alone would be to die for – pardon the pun! For our zombie-loving human counterparts there are a million and one ways to incorporate 'Day of The Dead' inspiration, from edible skull name places to traditional Mexican tin ornaments. Gothic make up and tops hats – you might want a make up artist for this one to get the right effect. Even a dress with holes, rips and rags can be incredibly stunning! A little care and thought can produce a visually amazing day to remember for all, and for those who need convincing, get them involved in the process. It can be great fun. Turn up in hearse, or on a black stallion or a black motorbike. Or go completely on-trend and arrive in black taxi - a fully plumaged horse and carriage is another fabulous way arrive in style. Whatever your choices, don’t be afraid to go a little crazy, embrace it and have lots of fun!Create a day to remember, make your imprint – and lets face it they will remember! Wtitten By Carla Day

Hello and welcome to the fall.......... One of my favourite times of the year with the leafs browning, yellowing and falling. With the dark nights closing in, it truly is a magical time for a Wedding...... It has been a very buisy couple of months and with this being our last issue of the 2015 we have made it extra special, so that you can enjoy fall to snow fall inspiration. Please make yourself a nice hot drink, cosy up and enjoy some of the fab places we have reviewed this issue because we really have done it all from a lovely dinner and overnight stay with Mercure,The Grand and Marco's New York Italian, a spooky overnight ghost tour with haunted happenings and a fab stay and tour of the beautiful Wasing Park. There are also lots of jam packed features with a twist from one of my favourite celebrations of the year, day of the dead!!! Enjoy, Dia Di Muertos!!

SKULLS

The Mexican sugar skull is the most popular symbol of Day of the Dead. So what are these colourful skulls? Why are they made and where do they come from? Let's take a closer look at how the sugar skull tradition began! Mexicans didn't have much money, but they did have a lot of sugar! This is probably why sugar skulls became so popular over the centuries. As the years roll on, sugar skull designs have become ever more colorful, creative, and extravagant. However, with the help of the Internet, people around the world are

SNACKS Snacks: Pumpkin seeds or amaranth seeds are offered as snacks for the visiting ancestral spirit. Alcohol: Bottles are offered to toast the arrival of the ancestors. In preColumbian times, pulque, a beverage made from sap of maguey or agave plant was reserved for special spiritual ceremonies. Today, any alcoholic beverage favored by the dead can be used to toast. Pan de Muertos - Day of the Dead Bread Pan de Muerto is the bread that is prepared and eaten during the Day of the Dead season. It is an essential element of the altar, and perhaps the food item which is most closely associated with the holiday. Recipe: DOUGH 1/2 cup (4 ounces) lukewarm milk 1/4 cup (1/2 stick, 2 ounces) butter, cut into 8 pieces; or lard

Spooky Night s GHOST WALK....

Spooky Nights ghost hunts are designed to give you a real ghost hunting experience and that they deffinately did as the misstomrs team joined them for a great spooky night at one of there sights, The towers mental assylum. With this being a local site to us in Leicester, we kind of new some of the history to place and what it was all about, but learned so much more which was very heart felting. We took part in part in vigils, stances and ghostly experiments which proved to be very lively with alot of ghostly activity. Spooky Nights ghost hunting team were brilliant and helped us capture some amazing paranormal activity. We were all freaked but what else were we expecting?

It is not the role of the Spooky Nights team or misstomrs team to prove that ghosts exist but for you to! So why not book yourself on a night with your stags or hens for an alternative doo!! We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and cannot wait to go again, believe me you will be hooked!!

The Grand Hotel REVIEW

Mercure Leicester, The Grand Hotel is located in the centre of the city, and boasts being one of the oldest buildings in the area. So you can imagine the opulence a building of such age and grandeur would hold. Well, everything that I had hoped for and was promised was fulfilled in full. From beautifully decorated rooms, to a beautifully prepared meal at Marco’s New York Italian restaurant. We ordered a tantalizing starter, and steak with peppercorn sauce for our main. I would love to say that I selected an awesome choice from the desert menu, but after eating so much, I could barely fit in any more of the delectable delights on offer. However, after seeing the luxury of the lobby, we decided to order ourselves an alcoholic beverage of our choice, mine being my favourite Disarano. As we sat back in the contemporary furnishings, of the Victorian Hotel, the contrast between the two eras and their contrasting interior styles added great interest to our visit as well. As I sat back in my luscious chair, with my partner Chris. I could imagine the weddings yet to come. Whether you have a traditional, contemporary or alternative wedding in mind, I truly believe that this venue and its urban setting will fulfil the needs of many a bride to be. I am even more excited by our impending wedding

fair this March. I can’t wait to see the faces of the brides and grooms to be. I hope you love this venue as much as me, in fact I know you will. How can you not when The Grand Hotel has so much more to offer. The beauty of holding your wedding at a Hotel Venue, is that you and your guests have the option to stay. So no fear of drinking too much, you can fully enjoy your night and party away! As for photography, I can see any photographer taking delight in the interior and exterior, with urban backdrops as their vistas... make sure you discuss your venue requirements with all of your suppliers, as they may have some interesting twists to add to the splendour, and also make sure you talk with your wedding coordinator as they know the building all too well! OF CANDLE

Of all the ways to decorate a room, nothing says romance like the light of a flickering candle. It adds ambiance and drama to even the simplest of rooms, imparting a sense of occasion.

For me there has always been something magical about candlelight that transforms the mundane world into one of enchantment and mystery. Fire mesmerizes the senses, dispels the gloom, and warms the heart. Candles are a must for a wedding this time of year during those long, dark winter nights; candles turn a cold winter’s wedding into a cozy respite.

The Ladie’s behind t he B U S I N E S S

My names Lauren King and im 24 year's young! I started hairdressing right from the word go i think! My mum was a hairdresser that also specialised in Wedding Hair and i grew up watching her work- i could french plait far before i could ride a bike or swim! Hair is my passion, from retro to vintage modern or boho! (Hence the name Plaits And Pin Curls, an old technique and a new technique!) I even have a 'work bucket list' things id like to achieve in my work before im 30- im so happy and amazed to say at 24 ive achieved them all ,even the outrageous ones like having my hair styles printed by any of the Hairdressers Journal publications! But just because my nan has the page proudly displayed on her wall doesn't mean im stopping there! (Oh no!) My aims are always changing! us girls need to aim high! So along with a ever-filling diary of brides-to-be, my mobile hair services and training i have a few exciting plans up my sleeve! But my love will always be for wedding hair; finding the perfect style and creating it one someone's big day , being apart of there morning i find a truly unique experience and its amazing to be invited to be involved And incase thats not brilliant enough i then get to see the best moment (no not the grooms face when he see's her! Thats second best!) I get to see the farther see the bride when shes ready (and most try there best not to cry! Most dont succeeded! ) You can see my work, Pricelist and fill out a booking form at www. plaitsandpincurls.co.uk

I not only love what I do but I have a passion to create new amazing looks within the makeup world! I love to experiment and look forward to meeting new Brides! Beautiful You Beautician & MUA - This is my own business which I run around my family, I offer regular beauty treatments; Waxing, Lashes, Tinting to name a few and then I also specialise in Bridal and Special Occasion Makeup offering a package to suit large bookings to! 3 Most frequently asked questions by Brides: 1. When should I have my facial waxing done?! The skin needs at least 48hours to heal before makeup application so I always advise people to do waxing at least 3-4 days in advance, this will allow healing to take place and the makeup will sit better without showing any signs of waxing. 2. Do you do Contouring?! No!! I do not advise Brides to have contouring. Contouring was created for Drag Queens to give them womanly features! We as women already have amazing features and these just need highlighting with the right products to look amazing on camera. 3. Will my foundation match my skin colour?! Yes!! When having a trial we match up a few different MAC foundations to your skin to make sure we get the perfect match and coverage! If you have got more colour for your wedding day we will tweak the shade to re-match. You want a healthy natural glow on your Wedding day; Not to Pale and not to Dark! Natural is Key! I pride myself on offering a friendly service, I like to go the extra mile to make your Big day Special, I offer affordable, competitive prices. Wedding Car

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

The Wedding car, tradition essential or unnecessary luxury? Let’s face it unless you are having a wedding in a single location or you can walk between your venues some sort of transport is going to be required. For every era of car made there will be someone somewhere who can offer you that special vehicle. The internet is most people’s first resource to search these days but don’t forget magazines, wedding fairs and word of mouth. When you have a short list, go see the vehicle in person and make sure you the groom and ‘THE’ dress and whoever is giving the bride away are all be able to get in and out the vehicle, it might seem daft but all car accesses are different. Making sure the practicalities of the vehicle suit you and the style of your big day are key. Other points to consider include - If you choose a vintage car pre 1930s can it travel the distances between venues? - If you have your heart set on a convertible make sure you can get in and out easily with the roof up in-case the British weather doesn’t play ball. - What if a car breaks down? - What is included in the price and what if prices go up? - Do you offer evening transfers? - Is the supplier insured, with public liability also? - What happens in adverse weather? - Is the car just booked for you and not another wedding later? - Is there mileage or time restrictions and what if we go over? - The safety of the car, is it MOT even if it doesn’t have to be? - What if we change our mind about a car? Most transport suppliers will happily cover any questions you have but as with anything if you are unsure walk away and think about it over a coffee (the fuel of chauffeurs). Check websites for reviews on suppliers or ask friends who are recently married, is the supplier active in the local community have they won any awards recently? You can never do enough research. When you have made a decision, pay your deposit return your booking form/contract and put a big tick against transport. NICK FREEMEAN

STEAMPUNK INSPIRED

EK Bridal wonderland weddings Victory rolls hair and make up Joanne Withers Models Casey and Steph Venues - Belgrave Hall and The Abbey Pumping Station

Just over a year ago Wonderland Weddings and EK Bridal meet at the guildhall wedding fair and we haven't looked back since. Both companies love something a little different. Upon being given the opportunity to use the two amazing settings of Belgrave Hall and The Abbey Pumping station for a photo shoot, the idea of Alice in steampunk land was born. What was more amazing was the people we then got on board. Joanne Withers our photographer had a real eye for what we wanted to achieve and she made it come alive just as we had imaged. As for Laura of Victory rolls hair and make up her love of steam punk brought to life the whole dream of steampunk land and how our models would become Alice with a little attitude. The dresses and styling of the day had been made just for that shoot, and after working hard to meet the dead line of the date we had been given to take over the two venes for the whole day, we made it and had so much fun seeeing it all come together. But this was what we had started are businesses for and to show that you can have something bespoke and different for your big day. A final word goes to our models Casey and Steph who until the day of the shoot really had no idea what we would get them doing. You would never guess they had never done anything like this before.
