STEAMPUNK ISSUE

Steampunk fashion is about creating an outfit that delights the senses, entertains the wearer and engages the viewer. www.misstomrsmagazine.com Proud to be working with Oxford Street London Highcross Leicester

With decorative details designed to impress and a theme that has plenty of scope for creativity, Steam Punk is perfect for the bride wishing to wow her guests whilst having a little fun. Mixing traditional Steam Punk elements such as cogs, quirky Victorian graphics with feminine flower arrangements, this theme has plenty to offer those seeking an alternative and flexible style. Hampshire Wedding Supplier collaboratively organised a Steam Punk styled shoot at the exclusive Horsebridge Station, Romsey. Many local and very creative wedding businesses took part. The beautiful disused Victorian station, with views of the River Test set in the Hampshire countryside provided the perfect backdrop. A feminine colour palette of vintage pink and plum were chosen, which beautifully echoed the decadent Victorian era and softened the theme. Accents of gold and copper blended perfectly and added the Steam Punk element, the metallics appeared throughout from the fabulous cakes provided by Cakes O’Licious, to the beautiful vintage crockery supplied by Indulge in Vintage. Alternative styled outfits were supplied by Queen of Hearts Dressmaker, who specialises in corsetry. The corsets and skirts combined beautifully to make the most of the feminine figure and added to the elegant Victorian feel. Quaint and Quirky Events worked collaboratively to style elements of the shoot and also provided a delicate hanging ribbon chandelier with handmade vintage style hot air balloons, this worked perfectly as a textural backdrop helping to set the scene. BC Digiphot a husband and wife team, were part of the fabulous photographic crew who worked so hard to capture all the elements of this inspirational styled shoot.

Our

Steampunk edition

Steampunk weddings fascinate us, but also rather baffles us. A Victorian era combined with industrial finishes and science fiction. Downton Abbey meets burlesque. When we think ‘steampunk’ we picture goggles, corsets, top hats and cogs, but it goes far beyond these elements. Alice in Wonderland imagery, crows, gloves, gears, gothic pieces and retro technology can also feature. Of course, some couples would go all out for their steam punk wedding, with guests and venue hosts also getting involved. But lots of weddings will combine various fashions. Steam punk certainly isn’t a new trend, and it certainly isn’t an experiment, so you

will often see glimpses of steampunk elements through footwear, headwear, decorations or even venue. This issue, our eighteenth issue, features images from Hampshire Wedding Suppliers’ steam punk photo shoot, and also photos from our resident photographer Michelle Howard. You can also see some amazing images from our Winter Wedding Fayre on page 58, and once again some awesome features written by our writer Claudia Burns. We want to welcome our new sales representative Nicki Robinson. Nicki will be working with us in the new year and we’re really excited to have a growing team at Miss to Mrs HQ.

“There’s beauty all around us if only we stop and search for it.” - Maxwell Grantly, Runs Like Clockwork

At Miss to Mrs magazine, we believe that independent companies should be given recognition for what they have achieved. We enjoy carrying out a company/product of the month for each issue, as it highlights one business, and the success of their products. We hope to promote further competitions through our Facebook page, and really engage our readers in the wedding world. Let’s face it, the wedding market is huge, so let us support and encourage each other with all of our endeavours.

SOMETHING NEW WRITTEN BY CLAUDIA BURNS

When it comes to a ‘new years’ wedding, the jewellery and accessories need to be just as spectacular as the event itself and I have lots of ideas to incorporate special pieces of jewellery into your outfit. If ever there was a wedding date worthy of a dress code it’s a New Years Eve wedding so for the women you could request an all-out sparkly dress code which would give you an excuse to wear as much jewellery as you desire! Think bold and beautiful for your jewellery and accessoriesthe glitzier the better. The most popular jewellery choices are diamantes and pearls which are extravagant and will ensure that you and your bridal party will sparkle on your big day! Companies such as ‘Girls love pearls’ offer beautiful jewellery sets and customized pearl drop earrings which will even look super cute on your little flower girls or bridesmaids! Another popular idea for a new year’s wedding is ‘silvertone’ jewellery in the form of earrings which are silver-plated and covered in crystals- I’d say they look like the New Years Eve ball drop in New York; you can’t get more spectacular than that! Another pretty idea I have come across for a New Years wedding is going with a colour palette of rose pink and gold with a touch of black thrown in for your jewellery and accessories- yes I said black but bare with me!

Black accessories such as earrings or a statement necklace will ooze elegance, provide you with all the glitz that you require and if you are going for a white dress, it will make it stand out even more! Or a stunning necklace and bracelet set I have come across was a mix of rose pink and black- it featured a rose pink pendant with a black stone in the heart of it. It sounds unusual however a New Years wedding is all about trying something new so experiment with your style choices as much as you want to. In terms of accessories, my advice would be to keep the same colour scheme throughout and maybe if you go with a mixture of colours in your jewellery, pick one of the colours and go with that for your accessories. For example if you are incorporating hair accessories, you could maybe go with black jewellery or just one statement piece then go for a rose pink or gold hair piece. This may seem a clash of colours especially depending on what colour your dress is however a new trend coming out particularly for the party season is to wear block colours and to mix and match the colours of your jewellery so as the new year is coming in, why not come out of your comfort zone – and what better place to do that than on your big day to wow your guests and your groom!

FRESH OUT THE OVEN WRITTEN BY CLAUDIA BURNS

Let’s talk food. What springs to mind when you think of a New Years Eve party? Stylish horderves, bite sized portions and spectacular desserts come to my mind and that’s exactly what I’m going to talk about to give you some inspiration for your wedding feast. Many think at weddings, you must have a full on sit down meal with three courses however I think a new year’s wedding lends itself to a more relaxed and party ‘feel’ to the meal. You could have all the classic ‘wedding’ dishes however converse with your food caterer to see if they can be made into small and elegant portions, for example for starters you could have a prawn cocktail served as bite size mouthfuls on spoons. For the main course, you might want slightly larger portions so a nice idea I have come across is to have a selection of main courses in smaller portions on the plate, for example you could have a small toad in the hole, some roast beef with horseradish sauce and then some vegetables. This way you capture the New Year element yet your guests won’t go home hungry! The dessert course is obviously the showstopper and as it is

a new year’s wedding, I think some sparklers should be involved. Again you could serve your guests a variety of small desserts and add a sparkler to one of them- it’s cheesy but I guarantee it will make your guests giggle with excitement. You could also add on the plate the date of your wedding or the bride and grooms name in fancy chocolate writing. It adds a personal element to the dish and as we are welcoming the New Year, why not go over the top and be a bit fancy! You could also have small plates of decorated chocolate strawberries scattered around the table at dessert time. Some companies offer amazing designs, for example you can get strawberries covered in chocolate which is made to look like the groom’s suit and the brides dress! Not only will this look super cute but it just adds a little something special to your meal. In addition, for the drinks you can get ‘tinsel stirrers’ which as the name suggests, are stirrers with lots of tinsel on the end of it- you can get them in gold, silver, red or green. This screams New Years Eve and makes your drinks look just as glamorous as your wedding party!

WHAT’S NEW? WRITTEN BY CLAUDIA BURNS

Steampunk is a wonderful style that incorporates elaborate Victorian fantasy attire mixed with industrial metals and gearsyou could say it is modern marvels meets steam powered sci-fi mixed with vintage Victorian details. In terms of favours and ‘stationary’ for your wedding, things such as a mix of bronze, copper, deeper metals and rich hues work well if you are incorporating a Steampunk twist to your day and these could be in the form of bird-cages with candles in them, beautiful vintage clocks or vintage ‘key’ bottle openers which can be found on websites such ‘Littlethings.com.’ I think the cooler the better when it comes to Steampunk favours so look out for items such as owl design bottle stoppers, vintage globe key chains, and little charms for your bridesmaids in the shape of antique keys and clocks- I could go on and on! Favours for the men could include rustic cuff links, funky key pins and even little pocket watches. Moving onto your wedding stationary, your invitations can be designed in many alternative ways to wow your guests

and really introduce that Steampunk twist. Your invitation could be centred on a vintage hot air balloon or a scroll monogram- to really amp it up, the invitation could look like it has been ‘tea-stained’ to give that true vintage feel. You could also have your invitation in the form of an olden day ‘admission ticket’ perhaps with the words “With this ring, I thee wed” and then details of your day. This is quirky and original which is exactly what the ‘steampunk’ theme is all about. You could also include name cards on the dining table depending on how many guests you have attending. Something which I have come across which I thought was a great idea was having the name cards look like distressed luggage tags and then attaching them to the wine or champagne glasses. If you were to do this then I would make your wedding invitations in the same style so everything matches and ties in together.

NEW YEAR RESOLUTION WRITTEN BY CLAUDIA BURNS

Every year we all make resolutions for the New Year ahead but how many of us actually stick to them? I know I don’t- I might try healthy eating for a couple of days then I spot some of the left over rose’s chocolate from Christmas and that’s it for the rest of the year. But all you brides out there, what better motivation to make you stick to your resolutions than your upcoming wedding! It is not just about the same old monotonous goals of losing weight and exercising more, you should actively and most importantly positively do all you can to make yourself look and feel your best in an enjoyable and healthy way! Exercise is obviously important but instead of hating every moment and having a Bridget Jones moment on the running machine (you ladies will know what I am talking about) then why not enrol into some Zumba or bollywood classes. These are much more fun and you could get your bridesmaids involved too to make it even more enjoyable. Yoga classes are also good for brides-to-be as no doubt you will be stressed with all the organising that goes into a wedding. There are various different types of yoga ranging from Bikram yoga which takes place in a sweltering hot room to make you burn calories to a relaxing kind

of yoga which focuses on peace of mind and restoring your sense of calm which sounds good to me. As well as exercise, a healthy diet is also important and the combination of these two will make you look and feel fantastic when you put on your wedding dress. Don’t be unrealistic or too harsh on yourself by cutting out all things sugary for the foreseeable future because quite frankly you will be miserable. Try setting goals, for example allowing you one piece of chocolate a day rather than eating the whole bar in one go. Or if you are really disciplined, do not treat yourself to dessert or anything sweet until the weekend- swap your sweet treats for fruit or a flavoured tea. Only set yourself what you know you can handle, as long as you feel your best on your big day then that is all that matters. There are also hundreds of companies who offer a 3-5 day juice cleanse which might sound hardcore but it will really make you glow from within and re-set your whole system just in time for the Christmas binge and your wedding feast. You obviously want your face to look its best too so invest in really good skincare for your skin-type, go for facials and generally just pamper yourself ahead of your big day- there is no better excuse!
