Pretty Little Things

What better place than France to have your wedding? It's

the country of arts, fashion, food and jole de vivre. From the gastronomy to the stella wine to French dĂŠcor, France offers all of those things and much more. Most importantly France houses the beautiful city of Paris. Being one of the oldest cities in the world, Paris is filled with culture, beautiful gardens and picturesque settings. Situated on the River Seine in the North of France, its location is a crossroads between land and river, with trade routes making it one of the principal cities of Europe. Regarded as one of the most romantic places on the earth, Paris is a favourite destination for couples who wish to be romanced, who are considering getting hitched, or honeymooning. With so much love around, couples are bound to be speaking the language of love.

For those planning a proposal there are so many special hot spots to take him or her for a informal ceremony and celebrations. Back drop your proposal at the beautiful Pont Des Arts. The stunning picture-perfect Alexandre III Bridge is a gorgeous pedestrian passage, which ornates a magical sparkle from the street lamps. It may be the proposal clichĂŠ but the iconic Eiffel Tower is a visionary structure that allows you to oversea the city. For those looking for the perfect Parisian wedding, the historic Chapelle is a great choice for a more relaxed and elegant affair and the Chateau reception in the Loire Valley will melt your guests. For those of you that simply love the French theme - be inspired by the French style, buildings and dĂŠcor, incorporating the chic theme to your wedding venue allowing you to bring France to the UK.

ello, my name is Paul, the proud owner of this beautiful Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire.I used this car as my wedding car way back in 2004. Having laid eyes on her I completely fell in love with her and asked for first refusal upon any future sale. Time sailed by and out of the blue, seven years later, the owner contacted me asking if I would like to purchase the whole business, and carry it through as a wedding car.

N

ot needing to be asked twice to take up the opportunity and with early retirement beckoning, she made a perfect retirement present and with her perfect ivory and black coachwork Classic Sapphire Wedding Car was born in April 2012. WEDDING DRESSES

have been generally excited to write about French style wedding dresses, some of the designs are utterly beautiful! The trick is to capture romance and class into your dress and simply let it do all of the talking. Lace is a big component and again, classic colours like white or cream are the most popular. ‘London Bride UK’ is a London based shop as the name suggests and is famous for their lace designs so is a great example if you’re looking for that lacy style. Long trains are also a feature of French style dresses and really give that wow factor. They could be a differing material to the main body of the dress or it could just be a continuation of the dress, it will look fabulous either way. You can incorporate sleeves in your dress as well- not all wedding dresses have to show a lot of skin! In a way, by incorporating three quarter sleeves for example, it keeps your look smart and classy yet still romantic. Detailing at the waist is also a nice touch- whether it is a flower detail or a ruffled design, it just gives a little something extra and as the French are known for their fantastic style, something like this would keep you on trend and your dress unique.

FOOD

T

he French are famous for their cuisine- they have wonderful breads, cheese, sauces and of course, escargots. But how can you incorporate this into a wedding might you ask? Well we have some wonderful ideas for you to put on a spread that will make your guests feel like they are in the heart of Paris. For hor d’oeurve’s there could be individual cheese fondues with a selection of breads and vegetables which are fun and interactive for your guests. Another starter idea is traditional French onion soup- this is always a winner and the ultimate French comfort dish. You could also have different food ‘stations’ depending on your venue which cater for each course and this way, guests can help themselves to food of their choice. Garlic Mushrooms, tartlets, salmon canapés and a selection of pates are just a few starter ideas which could be included in the food station or as standalone dishes. As a main course, Salmon en croute could be served with a sauce and a selection of vegetables and if you have any vegetarian guests, it could be tweeked to suit their needs. The French like to have simple dishes with few ingredients so to really capture that Parisian feel, speak to your caterers and explain your French vision for the menu. Finally, desserts usually include decorative meringues, traditional fruit tarts or a selection plate of truffles, macaroons and mousse- not only will these look exquisite, it will really seem like they have been flown in from a French patisserie!

JEWELLERY

J

Bijoux

ewellery is the finishing touch to your whole look and keeping it classic is the way to go. A couple of statement pieces is all you need to keep that effortless and smart style which mirrors all of the Parisian beauties out there. Earrings are an important style statement and whether you prefer long earrings or studs, they can really enliven your face. Detailing in earrings is important, for example they could have an intricate design in the middle or around the surrounding edge. In addition, Diamonds are always on a girl’s wish list so seeing as it is your big day; treat yourself to some special diamond stud earrings which also look effortlessly beautiful and stylish. In terms of colour, it really depends on the rest of your look however as long as you don’t have gold earrings and a silver necklace for example (we have all done it!) then the colour choice is down to your own personal taste. In terms of necklaces, a simple design can be just as statement making. A piece with just a single pendant hanging is all you really need- the pendant could be a stone which matches your ring or your earrings. If you did want a pop of colour, the stone could be an azure blue or something which will awaken the rest of your outfit. Obviously you can go in the opposite direction and rock a huge statement piece, however, just make that the only feature piece of jewellery to keep in with the theme of smart yet romantic. Finally, head pieces seem popular in France. Whether it is in place of a veil or something whichholds the veil in place, it can be a stand out feature. Wedding dress shops sometimes have a selection of head pieces or simply keep your eye out on your travels for something that wow’s you!

Timmaculate he French elegance, coupled with their style makes it a perfect template for a

BEAUTY

bride-to be. After looking at some French inspired make-up ideas, it is clear to see less really is more. Contouring is a great way to add definition to your face as well as add a little bit of colour which will make you look like you have been kissed by the sun. There are some great bronzers out at the moment, particularly Clinique’s ‘true bronzer’ or Nars ‘Laguna’- these aren’t too orange or pink so will suit all skin tones. Minimal eye makeup also featured in many ‘Parisian’ style looks- don’t be scared though, we all know make-up artists can make it look like we don’t have much makeup on when really we do... (Hopefully no grooms are reading this bit!) Mac do great skin coloured eye bases such as their Painterly paint pot and then follow this with a darker colour through the crease to give some definition yet it will merely look like a natural shadow. Eyeliner is also a must but put some close to your natural lash-line and in the upper water line to make it look like you have really thick lashes. This simple eye makeup coupled with bronzed cheeks and a nude pink lip will make you look like you have stepped off the runway of a Paris fashion show and straight onto the aisle- a French style look is all about fitting in with the latest trends and looking as natural as possible.

PRETTY LITTLE THINGS

ll of the pretty things which bring a wedding together allow you to really have fun in creating your Parisian style day. France and Paris in particular is my favourite place in the world and I’m always blown away by their effortless style- it is simply breath-taking as cheesy as it sounds! So I had great fun researching how to make a wedding look ‘French.’ Flowers like hydrangeas give the perfect feel particularly if they are bunched together in cream ‘jug’ type vases. They could line the middle of the dining table to give a French countryside feel or they could be placed in more extravagant vases, either way hydrangeas are a popular choice in France. Peonies are also a beautiful flower to incorporate into your day, whether it is into the bridal bouquets or in the reception. Their soft white and pink colour is super feminine and delicate and will go with near enough all decors. Taking this flower colour in mind, I think it’s important to keep all of the colours within the wedding pastel as this is a true reflection of a French style theme. For example, the chairs could be covered in Chantilly lace and then a cream silk bow added to the back of the chair for added elegance.

Jolie petites affaires (Pretty little things)

Alternatively, the chair covers could be a silk material, perhaps mirroring the colour of the flowers to tie everything together. Finally, let’s talk favours. Edible gifts are an unexpected and thoughtful touch for guests-you could put macaroons or sugar cookies into a decorated Mason jar and add a tag with a personal message on it. The same can be applied to a candle- I think interactive gifts which can be used in the home is a great idea as your guests will have a lasting memory of your day.

apturing your big day is unbelievably important- you can cherish the photos or videos forever and remember how beautiful your Parisian style wedding was! Even if you’re not getting married in the French capital, your skilled photographer can still capture the essence of Paris. The back drop of your photos can be inspired by the theme- if you converse with your photographer, I’m sure they will flood you with ideas on how to make your photos look the best they can be. In terms of videos, a videographer from the company LMVisual wedding studio who are actually based in Paris said, “I consider myself a storyteller. That's what it is all about. Listening to the stories I am witnessing and capturing it my way. Sometimes the story is just unfolding by itself.” I thought this was a really beautiful approach to his work so I had to share it with you. This can apply to your photos too; you might not be in Paris however you can capture them in a way which makes you feel like you were. Your wedding day is like a little story in itself as each one is unique so by taking this outlook and ensuring your photographer or videographer understands what you desire; you can capture something which will tell your story every time you look at it.
