Fishing & Boating Pompano Beach is named for the Pompano. A species of in-shore tropical game fish which swims abundantly in the areas warm Atlantic Ocean. Pompano Beach has some of the world’s best sport fishing; the topography and the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean just east of the beach are the perfect habitat for sport fish like mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna and many others. The Pompano Beach Fishing Pier is always open and is very conducive for snapper fishing. The Hillsboro Inlet Park features wooded fishing decks popular with visitors and residents alike. Fishing licenses are not required. Boats and jet skis may be launched at Alsdorf Park, NE 14 th St. Causeway and the Intracoastal. Catamarans and sailboats may be launched at NE 16 th St. and are required to stay 200 yards off the beach.

Scuba Diving Pompano Beach has some of the most magnificent natural coral reefs that you can swim to from shore, which you can only do in South Florida. For the serious divers, Pompano Beach is the “Wreck Capital” of Florida, with Shipwreck Park, featuring the newest artificial reef, The 324 foot “Lady Luck” that is surrounded by 16 other wrecks dating back to the 1800’s all covered with marine life. Shipwreck Park is a unique underwater cultural arts park with rotating underwater art exhibits. The majority of the wreck dives on the Gold Coast are located just outside the Hillsboro Inlet. There are miles and miles of colorful reefs to explore. With the warm gulf stream current flowing parallel to the shoreline, the linear reef tract creates perfect conditions for drift diving, also known as “valet diving”. Pompano Beach has an array of diving boats to choose from.

Lady Luck The Centerpiece of Shipwreck Park A 324 foot tanker ship, The Lady Luck has just sunk approximatively onemile off Pompano Beach. This is one of the newest and biggest contributions to Florida’s artificial reef system and one of the most easily accessible major dive sites in the nation. The ship includes a casino themed deck which encompasses giant dice, a poker table with a card shark dealing cards and whimsical slot machines and octopus dealing craps, creating a fun, interactive dive experience that provides for amazing underwater photo opportunities along with planned rotating underwater art exhibit. Exciting underwater events, artwork and rotating art exhibits will create and enhance this unique dive experiences for local and international tourists.
