#KNIFEFREE D&AD NEW BLOOD AWARDS Brief ‘Find a genre, song or musical movement that best represents a cause and use typography to bring it to life. Create a typography-first campaign with both physical and digital elements to inspire your audience to discover more about the issue(s) and, where relevant, spark a call to action.’ Solution A 12” x 12” vinyl record cover, accompanied by a poster design and simple moving image. This project focuses on the issue of knife crime, to promote this topic designs were made in order to promote the song ‘3 minutes to live’ by grime artist Yizzy.
EDITORIAL EYE MAGAZINE Brief ‘You will be designing an editorial magazine of your choice, about a typographer/ designer of your choice. Produce a font cover and four double page spreads that follow the guidelines of your choice. Also look into how your designs can be adapted for digital formats.’ Solution The designs created were made to the guidelines of Eye Magazine. The interview section typically found within this magazine was recreated and was based on designer Paula Scher.
OKTOBERFEST POSTER COMPETITION Brief ‘Design a poster (or series of posters) to advertise the Festival that you have chosen. It must be a typographical solution. The type can be found or handmade. Be creative and experimental, typographically communicate your festival theme in an appropriate way. The poster(s) can be either, traditional print-based posters or digital posters. If digital they must be no longer than 8 seconds in length.’ Solution The design with illustrations was entered into the Oktoberfest poster competition. Two other designs were made in order to complete the brief given by the tutor. These designs were then adapted to make Videos & GIFS.
FMP JACK & THE BEANSTALK Brief To combine my interest in fairytales and childrens illustration I focused my second year FMP on the story of Jack & the Beanstalk. Solution Using copy from a previous telling of the story by Anna Milbourne, the story was illustrated. For the end of year exhibition this was then made physically.
PERSONAL ILLUSTRATIONS BACKPACKING EUROPE Brief This is a personal project so there was no brief to follow however in my free time I do like to try and improve my illustration skills. Solution These works are from a series of 9 illustrations, that where created after a backpacking trip around Europe.
