ATTORNEY JOANIE POTTER Question: What can I do if DHS (Department of Human Services) takes Child Support but I am not able to visit with my child? ATTORNEY POTTER’S ANSWER: Child Support and visitation are two separate issues. One makes you pay child support every month and the other grants you visitation. If DHS takes money for Child Support, it is up to you to file your own Petition with the Court for visitation. Usually the Judge is going to grant visitation because visitation is important to the structure of society. Children need their fathers as much as fathers need their children. The well being of the community depends on the whole family. Attorney Potter practice law in Jackson, MS. You can contact her at: (601) 969-5883. Location: 303 E Northside Dr., Jackson, MS 39206. Mayor Tony Yarber, Jackson’s first African American Mayor, was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and who grew up in Jackson’s Westside Community (also know as “Subdivision #2) where he attended and graduated from Forest Hill High School. While growing up Mayor Yarber faced many of the same challenges that many African American you men face in today’s society. However, Mayor Yarber is a shinning example of how our young males can overcome the challenges they face and choose the right path. Of course we can credit his parents George and Deloris Yarber for steering him in the right direction. Mayor Yarber, born in 1978, is the youngest mayor to be elected as mayor for the city of Jackson, Mississippi. Prior to being elected as Mayor, he served as City Councilman for ward 6..

The Mayor Yarber’s church recently celebrated its Anniversary in October of 2014. Speak Life JXN Mayor Yarber has waged a campaign to bring a positive light to the City of Jackson. I.’s philanthropic endeavor to motivate the students in Jackson Public Schools. Although T. I. was valiant in his efforts, there were people who threw a lot of shade his way talking about is past. leaps and bounds and is now one the largest page on Facebook for women of God that is written by a man of God. Where do you get your motivations for each of your posts, they really seem to resonate. I get my motivation for my posts from everyday life and everyday people and their needs. The Holy Spirit inspires me and guides me when I post. Also it pays to have a strong prayer life. I have seen you get over 5,000 likes and hundreds of shares for one post, how do you account for such phenomenal responses? I believe people are able to identify on a large scale to ministry that speaks to their issues, needs, and concerns. People are hungry and thirsty for a true word from God and a true man and woman of God. Have people let you know how one of you post has affected their life, if so, how so? I received close to 100 responses in the page’s inbox per day. I answer each and every inbox message I get. Do you pastor a church? I am not currently pastor in a physical congregation. But I know God will lead me back to that. I have been called “Facebook’s Pastor.” So I guess in a sense I am still pastoring. We do have an online Facebook church ministry called Online Christian Community Church.

What avenues have opened up as a result of your huge following? As a result of my Facebook Ministry, we have received invites to come and minister from different countries. We preach and teach workshops through America. We have helped launch many online ministries by other anointed people. We have literally reached the world with our Facebook ministries. We are also on Twitter, and Instagram. We are not in it for the money. ..just the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

We have literally reached the world with our Facebook ministries.”

Where do you see your ministry five years from now? I see myself five years from now still reaching the masses through preaching and teaching God’s word. I see the online ministry expanding beyond anything I could ever imagine. To God be the glory. A lot of my inbox messages were about people losing hope. People are losing hope with today’s “so-called church.” So God spoke to me about starting a Facebook page ministry called Daily Hope. The first day we started the ministry over 2500 souls were added. The ministry is designed to address hopelessness and encourage and motivate people around the premise that with God things will get better. We seek to strengthen souls along the journey of life.

Obama Warns:

Voter Apathy Not Voter ID President Barack Obama speaks in the East Room of the White House in Washington PHOTO CREDIT: ASSOCIATED PRESS

Keeps Blacks from the Polls

With a grim face, President Obama speaks about the lack of voting by African Amercians during mid-term elections.

line is, if less than half of our folks vote, these laws aren’t preventing the other half from not voting.

Most of these laws are not preventing the overwhelming majority of folks who don’t vote from voting,” Obama points out in an interview with Al Sharpton that most people do have an I.D. Most people do have a driver’s license. According to President Obama, the bottom

Barak maintains that if Democrats have a high turnout from their base, we can win in key states. Obama says that many African Americans have been led to believe that

their vote doesn’t matter. But to the contrary it makes a big difference. When it comes to midterm elections, many people don’t get as excited about voting unless their favorite Presidential candidate is running. Barack says we are going to continue to challenge the voter ID laws . . . but we should get excited about voting even when there isn’t a presidential election.

Judge Ali Shamsiddeen agrees with President Obama’s sentiment, saying: “People need to realize how important local elections are because local officials govern our lives on a day to day basis.”

. . . the truth of the matter is, most of the time we stop ourselves from voting.” - President Barak Obama

ANDRE DELANO Andrea Woos Fans at JSU HOMECOMING Celebration Event!

IF YOU MISSED ANDRE DELANO IN JACKSON YOU MISSED A TREAT!

Are you a graduate of Jackson State University? If so, what motivated you to attend JSU? I am a graduate of JSU. I was offered a full music scholarship and was allowed to major in Business. Typically they don’t allow this. I am so appreciative that they did this. As a result, I graduated Magnum Cum Laude and the Marshall of my Business Administration Class. Was it always your dream to become a musician? Yes. I used to go over my older cousin’s house to watch him play

18

The saxophone. He would be in the basement playing to his girlfriend….and she would be absolutely melting!! When it got real good for her, she would lean over to my cousin and ask him to tell me to go back upstairs!!! I was like, “This is so powerful that I have to leave the room!!! I gotta play the sax!! Who are some of the well known artist you have played with? Maxwell, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Christina Aguilera, Bobby Womack to name a few..

What advice would you give to someone who would like to become a musician as a career? I would tell them that this is just as much of a business as it is fun and spiritually rewarding. You “are” your own commodity and you have to always think about how you are being marketed. People are always watching and you never know who is in the audience. So give your best every time you hit the stage!

ngel Lee, fashion designer and model was not always so confident about her body and style.

There was a time when she only felt confident when she looked in the mirror at her perfect imperfections. She knew that she was a strong and courageous person regardless of what people say on the outside. So Angel decided to challenge stereotypical views on beauty for women such as body types, weight, height and the length of hair just to name a few. ”One of my choices why I chose to wear my BALD was to show people that my beauty is not determined by the length of my hair.”
