COMMERCE MOUNATAIN Proposal of A Business Mixed Building

Graduation Year Individual Work Instructor. Prof. Li Hui 2017. 9

We used to enjoy the traditional Chinese gardens in Suzhou, such as Zhuo Zheng garden via two dimension plan. However, the designer of Zhuo Zheng Garden, Wen Zhenming (Song dynasty) relied on axonometric drawings to image future programs in this garden, such as the "Thirty-one scene of Zhuo Zheng Garden".

There is an interesting phenomenon in China that the repetitive banal super business center have now taken control all over our daily life, especially in China. City should acts like people. Shanghai was a 20 year vigorous girl vs Shuzhou as a old charming lady once upon a time. However, we can no longer distinguish them. Both of the ladies are now dressed with a terrible uniform call consuming flamboyant a fake promising modern life.

Thirty-one sences of Zhuo Zhenyuan Wen Zhenming(Song)

These projects criticized space of current business-mixed centers and reconsider one new unique possibility that fits Suzhou's local culture. Different types of mountains in Chinese landscape painting and artificial garden are the major observed object. The art connection between painting and architecture design is revived.

CIRCULATION & STRUCTURE STUDY

The ancient Chinese painting book "Lin Quan Gao Zhi" mentions that there are three circumstances of mountain , "Far of the mountain", "Height of the mountain" and "Deep of the mountain", which represents the process of enjoying mountains in one painting from low altitude to high altitude.

FACADE STUDY

There are 5 unique characters of artificial stone in traditional gardens. I notice that there is a relationship between stone’s characteristics and building’s facade.

Beside, various types of mountains form mountain groups, including big mountain, small mountain, far mountain and closed mountain. Floors change into different inclined slopes. Different angled slopes symbolize different sizes of mountains.

ART FACTORY Design of Studio and Exhibition Art Center

Sophomore Design Studio Individual Work Instructor. Prof. Zhang Yi 2015. 4

This site once was a aircraft production factory. It turned into the Shanghai West Bund Art Center in 1990s. This project aims to create another possibility of the site. An art container that can congregate all art, design and fashion festival.

This factory impress me with its super structures. An enormous volume created by the sequential steel structure, which is a symbol during the industrial period. The project aims to reconstruct the volume through a second layer of steel to accommodate both the new function and the old symbol.

Finally, I got the highest grade and evaluation in this design studio and obtained the first scholarship and merit student during that year.

STRUCTURE STUDY

Original sequential structure

Triangle element

There are twenty two supporting frames in this factory. And the major component of this structure is triangle. As we all know that, triangle is the most stable form in architecture design. Therefore, this project aims to extract geometrical pattern from old construction and base on this pattern to create a newsupporting system.

STRUCTURE DIALOGUE

There is a one meter wide corridor between old structure and new steel structure. When people walk through this passage way, they can feel the conversation and power between different structure from various periods.

Joint detail

The new steel structure consists of two strip of steel beams. The interspace of this material creates a feeling of dexterous, which contradicts to the cumbersome feeling of original material.

Cities also die sometime. The growth of a city is similar as the growth of the leaves' vein. Vein consists of cells and cells transport nutrients. City would get "sick" when the veins are clog. This projects aim to explore the growth cycle of a city, the renewal of a city and the boundary of a city.

A new type of detachable and mobile construction that represents cells. These construct not only transport people's daily life, space and time, but also, they rekindle wasted areas, replenish infrastructure and redefine boundary of this site.

LINE LANE LAND Renovation of Old Residential Community

Senior Design Studio Individual Work Instructor. Prof. Xu Yuelan 2016. 10

Located at Hong Kou district, Shanghai, the site was occupied by Japan during the second world war for ten years. When they were gone, they left the new urban fabric, a special lane and street system behind.

The district later developed into residential area and new problems raised. The street, lane and residential house are too crowed and narrow for dwellers to use nowadays. Different daily objects occupies the public domain like delivery lockers, bicycles, cats' houses, etc.

There is no place left for people to carry on their public activities.

The aim of this project is not only solving the problems mentioned above, but also renovating the relationship of the neighborhood.

Shi Ku Vault is the boundary of private and public in traditional block. The vaults are constitute with two pages of vaults. The bigger one, the entrance of the community, is three meters wide, while the smaller one is one meters wide, as the entrance of personal houses. The projects aims to project the vertical curves of the vaults, which divides the public and the private, onto the 3dimensional devices as buffer zone of the community.

RENOVATION MANUAL

There are six most serious problems in this community: the delivery lockers stand on the lane, the wild cats set up their homes on the wall of lane, the Ofo bicycles are discarded at the corner of lane, no public space for old men to

play cheese, no public space for old ladies and absence of nature green gardens. These photos records the real situation of local people. The curve structural walls can create more useful space than original straight walls.
