JADE’s Annual Report aims at sharing with all our members, partners, and stakeholders the achievements of the European and global Junior Enterprise movement over the last year. As a network, JADE can reach every year new heights only thanks to the collaboration of and cooperation of a number of different stakeholders: once a year, we want to take the chance to thank them all, to make a point on the current situation of the Junior Enterprise network in Europe and beyond and to set even more daring targets for the year to come. With this Annual Report, we want to guide through the developments the movement went through in the year 2015-2016, and to shed light on the projects and ambitions for the network – at European and Global level – for the years to come. Enjoy the journey!

Foreword
Foreword from the President Today more than ever: #TogetherWeGrow It is a pleasure and an honour to present you the JADE Annual Report 2015-2016 on behalf of the entire JADE Team, and to introduce the activities and developments that the Junior Enterprise movement carried out and achieved in this past year. These are special years for the Junior Enterprise network: on top of the great achievements of the European network reached in 2016, we have been celebrating the global Junior Enterprise movement in the largest Junior Enterprise World Conference ever organized. In 2017, the first Junior Enterprise will turn 50 years old. Also next year, the European Confederation of Junior Enterprises will turn 25 years old. And by the time next JEWC will take place, in 2018, we will be celebrating 30 years of the Junior Enterprise movement in Brazil: looking at how we have been growing and evolving, at how many people we have been able to impact over the years, it is a pleasure today more than ever to pronounce JADE motto: “Together We Grow”!
Daniela Runchi JADE President 2015-2016
We are proud to leave the organization today in a wonderful shape, with 2 new members – Sweden and Croatia – that joined our network at the beginning of our term, and amazing partners that were with us along the journey - a special thank you goes to Covestro, Microsoft and SimonKucher & Partners, with whom we will keep working the next year. We have also been collaborating more and more closely with the European Commission and the European Parliament, that we can count among our most valuable supporters. In particular, this year we had the President of the European Parliament endorsing the Junior Enterprises in Europe and across the world, which makes us at one time extremely proud and even more aware of the responsibilities we have in front of the next generations of Junior Entrepreneurs. Moreover, despite the tragic events that shook Europe we were able to bring together hundreds of Junior Entrepreneurs for our yearly international congress: we believe that it is today more relevant than ever to underline the role of the Junior Enterprise movement as a network that brings people together, not only to exchange best practices and work experience, but also moments, cultures and passions. With this Annual Report, I would like to invite you to dive into not only the achievements that a large group of motivated young professionals have reached over 12 months, but to celebrate the nature of these achievements as something that can be reached only together, with the common effort, drive and passion of all our over 22,000 members across Europe. Today more than ever: #TogetherWeGrow

Testimonials
What do they say? Words from some of our supporters:
Dear European Confederation of Junior Enterprises, Dear JADE, SMEs are the first private employer in Europe and a chance for our continent: they are the driving force of our European growth, in Europe and for Europeans. Let's look only at our common digital market: it is an enormous opportunity for our continent and the new generation of entrepreneurs has all the tools, knowledge and will to lead in this market, in Europe and further. That's why I want to congratulate JADE for its involvement in encouraging entrepreneurial skills in Europe. Thanks to you, more than 280 junior enterprises in 14 European countries bridge the gap between academia and the real market. In addition to their studies, 22.000 students are practically involved into the running of non-profit SMEs in Europe: that is an impressive number of young Europeans learning how to become entrepreneurs, and moreover discovering social entrepreneurship. Thanks a lot for your commitment and keep up with the good work.

The Junior Enterprise Network and JADE The first Junior Enterprise was founded almost 50 years go, in 1967: since then, the JE concept has been expanding across Europe and far beyond, leading in 2016 to the creation of the first Junior Enterprise Global Council.
The Junior Enterprise Network and JADE
The Junior Enterprises
Objectives of Junior Enterprises Junior Enterprises all across Europe pursue the same goals: §
Providing a “learning by doing” experience for students, who create and manage their own non-profit SMEs offering offer various services to the market, in relation to their field of study
§
Connecting academic knowledge and the business world, allowing students to add practical experience to their theoretical skills
§
Fostering entrepreneurial skills, needed in modern economies and societies, such as selfconfidence and direct entrepreneurship experience
§
Enhancing employability in a local market, helping local companies to search for and employ talented, experienced and motivated students from one single place
§
Improving local economic and social growth: Junior Entrepreneurs are a direct way to promote universities’ brands to local companies.
Bridging the gap between academia and the business world A Junior Enterprise is a non-profit civil social organization, formed and managed exclusively by undergraduate and postgraduate students of higher education, which provides services for companies, institutions and society, under the guidance of teachers and professionals with the goal to consolidate and enhance the learning of their members. Junior Enterprises are similar to real companies, counting with the principles of corporate governance like management council and executive board, and own regulation. In a Junior Enterprise, students have the chance to put in practice what they study in university, developing hard and soft skills.
Being part of a Junior Enterprise is for a student a unique opportunity to develop those skills that the job market is looking for. By developing projects for real corporate customers, managing the Junior Enterprise itself, with all the processes that are typical in a company, Junior Entrepreneurs challenge their own limits every day. Now only they develop hard and soft skills by delivering high quality projects: by managing their own company-like structures, Junior Entrepreneurs can experience every day what it means to be entrepreneurial and to bring their own business forward in the real competitive market. A unique chance for a university student.

Our Junior Entrepreneurs The top 1% that is changing Europe every day Our Junior Entrepreneurs are bright motivated young people willing to take a step forward to improve not only their own education and skills but also the world around them. They chose to dedicate a large part of their time, alongside their studies, to the development of their Junior Enterprises, to the realization of projects for their customers, and to the recruitment and the training of those that after them will manage the organization. They impact their peers, by inspiring them in challenging their limits and push forward the boundaries of their university education. But they also impact the society and the (business) environment around them: they offer accessible consultancy services to small companies and SMEs, helping them to join the digital market, expand their business and grow at European and global level. The Junior Entrepreneurs are one of the driving forces of change in today’s Europe, working every day not only to become better professionals but also better (European) citizens. By building personal relationships and business partnership with other Junior Enterprises across the continent, they are exposed daily to a multicultural working world, where they can experience the differences, the richness and the value of intercultural collaboration and cooperation. Before graduation, they become the “young graduates with experience” every company is looking for as tomorrow’s leaders.
Fields of study In Europe, the following are the first 5 fields of study mainly chosen by our Junior Entrepreneurs: Business Economics Engineering
Participants of the Summer JADE Meeting 2016
Management IT However, the Junior Entrepreneurs come from all field of studies: it is the blending of different approaches, competences, and skills that makes a difference in providing value to the Junior Enterprises’ customers but also in shaping the open-mindedness of the Junior Entrepreneurs.

Junior Entrepreneurs in the Summer JADE Meeting 2015
The Junior Enterprise Network and JADE
The JADE network Growing together with our members to have every day more impact JADE was founded in 1992 upon the initiative of six confederations of Junior Enterprises – CNJE (France), CEJE (Spain), UniPartners (Netherlands), JADE Switzerland, JADE Italia, and BDSU (Germany) – with the aim of connecting Junior Entrepreneurs across the continent to promote exchange of best practices and connection. Over time, JADE has been growing with the entrance in the network of more and more countries. At the same time, the Junior Enterprise concept was growing far beyond the European boundaries, first in Brazil and then in Tunisia. Today, after the Junior Enterprise World Conference 2016 that gathered in Brazil over 3,500 Junior Entrepreneurs from all around the globe, and that saw the creation of the first Junior Enterprise Global Council, we set a new important cornerstone to the development of the global movement of Junior Enterprises.
JADE Structure JADE is a bottom-up organization: the Junior Entrepreneurs choose the leaders of their Junior Enterprises to guide the organization, manage the relationship with clients and suppliers, partners and in general all the external stakeholders. At national level, the Junior Enterprises elect their country representatives, who work to promote the JE concept and answer the needs of their JEs at countrylevel. Each country elect its International Manager, responsible to ensure effective communication between the national and the European level, JADE. All the national representatives elect the JADE Executive Board which, from Brussels, represents the movement at European level and keeps the relationship with the partners, institutions, and the other confederations in the world.

The amazing year 2015-2016 These are special years for the Junior Enterprise movement, on the verge of turning 50 years old. This year, the first of the new strategic cycle 20162018, we strived to bring JADE one step forward towards its mission to make the Junior Enterprise network even stronger at European at Global level.
The amazing year 2015-2016
The amazing year 2015-2016 The year 2015-2016 from a longterm perspective JADE has been working in the last decade with strategic cycles lasting 3 years. In 2015 we concluded the last cycle, which had started in 2013, and in 2016 we had the privilege of inaugurating the 2016-2018 horizon, under the renewed vision of making the Junior Enterprise concept universally known in Europe by 2018. While pursuing our vision, we keep focusing on the three strategic pillars that characterize JADE as an umbrella organization for Junior Enterprises in Europe: Support the Junior Enterprise network – via quality programs across Europe and the globe
Important endorsements from the institutional world In 2016, JADE and the Junior Enterprises in Europe received the endorsement of President Martin Schulz of the European Parliament, who stated his support for the JE concept and its role in fostering youth employment and entrepreneurial skills in a powerful video message. The President of the European Commission JeanClaude Juncker also expressed this year his appreciation for the Junior Enterprise network and the efforts the Junior Entrepreneurs make across Europe to improve themselves and the society.
Integrate the network, by organizing or promoting events to bring the members together to exchange best practices, experiences, stories Represent the Junior Enterprise network in front of private and public partners as well as the other global confederations of Junior Enterprises
We are very proud, at the end of the 2015-2016 term, to be able to say that impressive results were achieved this year in all the three pillars of the strategy: a great start for the 2016-2018 cycle.

On her side, Mr. Navracsics, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, praised the Junior Enterprise concept as a best practice in bridging the gap between academia and the job market, bringing young people closer to the business world at European level.

The JEWC was also the occasion to sign the new Memorandum of Understanding, the document that outlines the development strategy of the Junior Enterprise network at global level for the next 2 years. Looking forward The Junior Enterprise network is about to reach even greater milestones: in 2017, the first JE will turn 50 years old, while JADE itself will celebrate its 25th anniversary. 2018 will also be a year to celebrate, with the next World Conference taking place in Europe and the Junior Enterprise movement in Brazil turning 30 years old. Junior Enterprise World Conference 2016 The largest Junior Enterprise global conference ever The Junior Enterprise World Conference is the only Junior Enterprise event that bring together Junior Entrepreneurs from all around the globe. The JEWC takes place every second year since 2004 and is organized once in Europe and once in Brazil. This event follows global trends, facing dilemmas in everyday life of a Junior Enterprise, empowering and motivating their participants to impact positively in the society. In 2016 the JEWC took place in Florianopolis, Brazil, organized by the Brazilian Confederation Brazil Junior and FEJESC, the Federation of the Junior Enterprises of the State of Santa Catarina.
20th – 24th July Florianopolis, Brazil 3200 Junior Entrepreneurs The theme of the event - ”Lead the co-era” – invited the participants to rethink the future of the movement and of society in a collective way, to co-create the solutions for tomorrow’s world. The speakers, the workshops and the panels stimulated to bring the reflection that we must undertake a world more collaborative and less competitive. This more collaborative world is a place where the people are aware of their role in the operation of the system as a whole and pass the ego for the echo, i.e., of the individual to the collective. The concepts brought by collaborative economy have shown the world that sharing instead of accumulating can be an excellent solution to the main problems in the world today.

What’s Next?
The Junior Enterprise World Day aims to bring Junior Entrepreneurs from all over the World together in a same common objective: celebrate the Junior Enterprise Movement. The project was launched in 2014, and in 2015 JADE, Brasil Júnior, and JET organized the second edition of JEWD on November 22nd, during the Global Entrepreneurship Week.
For the occasion, a video was produced showing junior entrepreneurs from all over the world talking about what were they “proud of” in relations to be part of the Junior Enterprise network. In 2015, the JEWD’s fan page reached 2,400 people, 91 Junior Enterprise events were organized around the world and 889 profile pictures were changed on Facebook to celebrate JEWD.
The campaign of JEWD 2015 was based on the motto “what are you proud of?”. In order to connect the different realities, cards with curiosities about each National Confederation were posted in the JEWD’s fan page.
SJM16 was also the occasion to choose the organizers for the SJM17: the event will take place next summer in Milan, Italy, organized by JEME Bocconi.
On the 22nd of November, Michele Hunt was invited as a speaker on a webinar that reached 465 views; on the same day the registrations to JEWC 2016 and the Global Magazine were launched.

Generations Club 2015 Bridging generations to face Europe’s hot issues On November 20th, 2015, JADE, organised the Generations Club 2015 under the theme “An Intergenerational Action Plan on the Entrepreneurial Education & Skill Gap Challenge in Europe”. With this JADE stronger than ever tackled a topic that every student and soon-to-be graduate fears while youth unemployment rates are barely changing since its peak during the economic crisis. Based on JADE’s Generations Report of 2014 –a youth perspective on entrepreneurial skills and JADE’s commitment to the Educational Transformation Agreement signed in 2014 with Microsoft, JADE decided to create in this year a concrete action plan succeeded by several follow-up meetings with all stakeholders and supporters throughout the year in order to create a truly sustainable solutions aiming to help transform Europe into an entrepreneurial society. The participants, 33 in numbers, focused during the invitation-only event on three of Europe’s hot topics: skills mismatch, youth unemployment, and entrepreneurial education.

Generations Club 2015
In interactive and crossgenerational exchange sessions, aimed to build bridges between the senior and the junior generation in order to foster an entrepreneurial culture, JADE gave an extraordinary forum to the youth’s and senior’s prospects, trying to diminish the generation gap. In the unique venue of the Microsoft Innovation Center, the seniors’ view was being represented by company representatives from Covestro, Oracle and Microsoft, representatives of entrepreneurship education programmes such as the Entrepreneurship Experience Programme and the Entrepreneurship Academy, and dedicated members of the European Commission, as Mr. Ballesteros (Head of Startup Europe) and Eurochambres. The junior generation was being advocated through some of the largest youth organisations in Europe, in particular ELSA, AEGEE, EPSA, AIESEC and JADE itself, in order to combine the view of a truly representative scope of Europe’s young people.

Fostering entrepreneurial skills, via inspiring role models We all follow the example of others. Role models help us to be more creative, aspire to take that risk that will make all the difference. With Success Stories, we aim at collecting inspiring experiences from the alumni of our network to showcase how their Junior Enterprise helped them in their career. These stories fuel the junior entrepreneurs’ mindset and encourage them to overcome their next challenges. Each year, a Success Stories booklet is released, containing the most inspiring stories, advice and examples from real entrepreneurs.
In 2012 the European Commission, via its Directorate General which deals with entrepreneurship in Europe – now DG GROW - , conducted a study that involved Alumni of the Junior Enterprises as well as former regular students. The study, titled “Effect of Entrepreneurship Programmes on Higher Education”, compared alumni of the Junior Enterprise network with former students enrolled in entrepreneurship programs as well as with a control group of other students of higher education in Europe. The analysis of the data showed that Junior Enterprises are more effective than the other programs in fostering youth employment, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, company creation and skills development. This year, with the support of DG GROW, we decided to replicate the 2012 study. The analysis will be published by the end of the year.
JADE network is full of creative, innovative and inspiring role models. Those Junior-Entrepreneurs which kept on with the Entrepreneurial spirit, launched their own start-up, or had an amazing corporate career, and kept improving through failure. In 2016, the Success Stories booklet reached its 9th edition, with over 10 stories to inspire young people to follow their passion in pursuing their career: Alumni that made a difference, that inspire future generations of Junior Entrepreneurs in Europe and beyond.
The concept of the booklet has been renovated in 2016, focusing not only on the the Alumni that created their own companies, but also on those that made the best out of the skills learned in their experience in the JE and developed an impressing career building on the entrepreneurial mindset gained in the Junior Enterprise network.

Enhancing the Network Quality The Confederations Development Programme The Confederations Development Program is an important initiative of JADE, reaching this year the 7th round of knowledge sharing. CDP provides our Member Countries with an experience-sharing platform that JADE creates and facilitates, as well as individualized support to develop and become each year better performing. The program has two stages, one of information gathering and one of learning about improvement areas through coaching or exchange sessions between confederations. For example, the Members could exchange about “Recruiting and Training performing teams” at national level, “Enlargement” (how to create new Junior Enterprises at national level” and “Private Cooperation - how to optimize the relationship between the Junior Enterprises network and the private sector” This year, we partnered with EFQM, the European Federation for Quality Management, in order to make the Confederation Program even more efficient for the Members. EFQM supported JADE Headquarters to restructure the process in order to make it more suited for JADE’s needs, trained JADE team, and provided help in the individualized coaching of the Members.

Fostering quality development at national level This year, JADE proudly launched another quality project: Common European Audit grid. As we wish to foster more cooperation between our Junior Enterprises in the long term, and are always happy to share our network with the private and public sector to fulfil their needs, the Common European Audit Grid appeared to us as a guarantee for Quality for the whole network. In addition, as JADE is aiming at a global recognition for the network of Junior Enterprises, having a quality stamp will distinguish our network from other initiatives. The objective for this project is to provide each of our members with a tool, the audit grid, and a process in order to assess the quality of their Junior Enterprises and to help them develop. This year, the process, the grid and some guidelines were developed on the basis of the work performed in 2012 and in collaboration with the members. We communicated about the objectives of the project, and gathered the countries differences in terms of Junior Enterprises in order to create a suitable system for everyone. We implemented the process as a trial on 3 Junior Enterprises (our Consultative members from Sweden, Croatia and the UK). Next year will be dedicated to implementing the grid at national level in some pilot countries.

An ever growing network
New Junior Enterprises
Beyond new boundaries
More than ever, we aim at a global network of Junior Enterprises, we are developing more and more Junior Enterprises around the world; JADE is deeply involved in the creation and support of Junior Initiatives, in order to give the opportunity to more students to benefit from this life-changing experience.
The highlight of the year was the participation of JADE and Brasil Junior in the jury of a business game in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the objective of creating a Junior Enterprise in the winning University. It was the opportunity for us to talk about the Junior Enterprise concept in dozens of local newspapers, and to have an interview released on national television.
This year, we were in contact with numerous countries from Europe – Sweden and Croatia that we helped developing at national level, but also Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovenia, Denmark ‌ Outside Europe, we also developed the network in Oceania with two initiatives in Australia, as well as in Africa with Gabon, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Morocco where we supported the creation of a national Confederation and a collaboration at Maghreb level with JET (Junior Enterprises Tunisia). We also supported the initiative to develop a Confederation of Junior Enterprises in the US.

On top of those activities, we also carried out Godmother program (thanks to which experienced Junior Enterprise can mentor Junior Initiatives), as well as Promotion Program, that consists in training Junior Entrepreneurs studying abroad in order for them to be able to create a Junior Enterprise in their host University. Around 50 Junior Enterprises participated in the Godmother program, and 4 Promoters spread the Junior Enterprise concept around Europe.

The first JADE Academy Reaching new heights with JADE’s first Train the Trainers program JADE Academy is the first JADE Train the Trainers program, launched in 2015, which combines a Train the Trainers week taking place in Belgium with training sessions throughout the year, to foster exchange at international level and sharing of best practices.
A session during JADE Academy
The Train the Trainers event gives Junior Entrepreneurs the chance to develop new heights and to prepare themselves to deliver high quality trainings in multicultural environment, building a strong and united trainers team ready to share their expertise around Europe
By developing multipliers, JADE Academy can spread the entrepreneurial spirit and create common knowledge throughout the network. In 2015 the first edition of the Train the Trainers week took place, with an amazing feedback from the participants who afterwards delivered trainings in the JADE Spring Meeting, the Summer JADE Meeting and for some German Junior Enterprises. We are looking forward to the next edition to enlarge the trainers pool!

New projects we are excited about Celebration is real only when shared
Following up on the Junior Enterprise Global Forum
In 2017 JADE will reach twenty-five years from its foundation, while the Junior Enterprise concept will turn fifty years old: it is an amazing moment for the network to celebrate, share and foster the Junior Enterprise concept not only at European but also at global level, under JADE’s motto #TogetherWeGrow
A new exciting project is being developed, with the creation of a comprehensive platform to connect all the Junior Entrepreneurs, Junior Enterprises and national confederation at European level first and global level afterwards, for a network becoming stronger and stronger.
Following the decisions taken in the Junior Enterprise Global Forum during the Junior Enterprise World Conference, in the next months the global team will be constituted to work on fostering even more the Junior Enterprise movement at global level: we are looking forward to break new boundaries!
