Foreword Dear participants, Congratulations for your decision to not miss JADE Spring Meeting 2015 - a conference full of development and networking possibilities as well as our unique Junior Enterprise spirit is lying ahead of you! Guided by the theme "Challenging the Entrepreneurship Status Quo" we will start the conference with our Opening Ceremony filled with a high-level panel discussion and the presentation of our Excellence Awards finalists. Right from the beginning we will put you in the right mindset to exchange with you about our movement and how we can together actually empower the Junior Enterprise concept in order to foster European challenges, for example youth unemployment and economical risks as well as the development of a environment that supports entrepreneurial ideas and initiatives. In order to support you and your Junior Enterprise with tools and knowledge for your day-to-day activities we offer you two days of workshops - from HR topics over Finance and Technology to Business tools. "Challenging the Entrepreneurship Status Quo" also goes along with challenging yourself and your environment therefore we wish you a successful JADE Spring Meeting with many interesting discussions, new lessons learned and empowerments which will provide you with new ways to challenge your Status Quo.

Challenging the Entrepreneurship Status Quo Not long ago, Europe’s crysis changed the mentalities of many about the traditional economy and industry leaders everywhere turned their heads towards youth, especially the unemployed. Knocking at the door is the fact that innovation only is not going to solve many problems and entrepreneurship has become key to a more active and efficient occupation of the workforce. Following the belief that it is not Europe who is changing the youth, but rather youth who are changing Europe, JADE is continuing its yearly tradition by organising JADE Spring Meeting 2015, putting the minds of its Junior Entrepreneur participants at work for the theme: Challenging the entrepreneurship Status Quo. There is a very good reason why JADE Spring Meeting happens each year in the capital of Europe. We believe that bringing cultures together on a scene populated with some of the most creative, innovative young minds in Europe is key to discovering and pursuing new, life changing opportunities. Challenging the Entrepreneurship Status Quo means encouraging the agile youth to stand for a reform in development and quality of life. It means changing the numbers into a mindset, and a mindset, into culture. The stage is set for leading Junior Entrepreneurs of more than 12 countries to meet officials of the European Parliament and the European Commission, leading people of influential companies and hundreds of young people, seeking to network, discover 1 opportunities, and last but not least, to be inspired.

JADE – the European Confederation of Junior Enterprises – is an international, non-profit umbrellaorganisation of enterprises across Europe established and managed solely by students. The network is currently composed of 12 Confederations and Consultative Members from Europe, summing up to circa 280 JE’s.
Each year the JADE network is home for more than 30 events both at national and international level: JADE Spring Meeting: more than 220 attendants to the European Parliament + local students; Summer JADE Meeting: more than 200 international attendants + local students; Junior Enterprise World Conference: 400-2000 international attendants; 25+ Seasonal national meetings: 50 to 1000 attendants; 2 General Assemblies of 40 attendants.
JADE is connected to a global network of more than 40.000 Junior Entrepreneurs across the world. Together with Brasil Junior and Junior Enterprises of Tunisia we are actively enlarging our concept, opening the doors to North and South America, Asia and Africa.

A Junior Enterprise – is a non-profit civil social organization, formed and managed exclusively by undergraduate and postgraduate students of higher education, which provides services for companies, institutions and society, under the guidance of teachers and professionals with the goal to consolidate and enhance the learning or their members. Junior Enterprises are similar to real companies, counting with the principles of corporate governance like management council and executive board, and own regulation. Learn more HERE.

Concept
JADE Spring Meeting is the event were many faces of entrepreneurship intersect. JADE follows European policy making in times chalenged by unemployment and other economical risks. Our JADE’s solution is to bring more sucessful entrepreneurs to the market through the Junior Enteprise concept. This year JADE Spring Meeting was based on two big events, one external and one internal: JADE Generations Club 2014 and Global Entrepreneurship week.
The Global Entrepreneurship’s Institute publication: Global Entrepreneurship Index, one of the most trusted global entrepreneurship studies in the world, served as main refference point in choosing the pillars that describe the workshop experience this year.

JADE took youth unemployment and skills mismatch in Europe as a priority for policy making and the result was Generations Club 2014! The main goal was to answer three questions: What are the entrepreneurial skills, when and how should them be developed in order to achieve the success? The results will be presented during the Opening Ceremony.

The Big Debate: Is the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Europe actually supporting youth to create new jobs is goind to provide the bigger picture for the theme of the event, Challenging the Entrepreneurshi Status Quo. Together with Generations Club 2014 report and Global Entrepreneurship Index, the three pieces complete the puzzle of entrepreneuship in 2015: youth perception on entrepreneurial skills, the pillars of entrepreneurship and the public and private sector view on te ecosystem itsself.
Finally, the Excellence Awards are here to prove that Challening the Entrepreneurship Status Quo is something that the Junior Enterprises have been doing to do for quite some this, but every year there is space to go even further.

Unemployment is a crucial economic factor for a country. In Europe, unemployment in general has been on the rise since 2008. And youth unemployment rates are generally much higher, even double or more than double, than unemployment rates for all all other ages. By the end of 2014, the youth unemployment in the Europe was 22%. This is why the European Commission needs to define where it wants to be by 2020. To this end, the European Commission proposes that 75% of the population aged 20-64 should be employed by 2020. Moreover, in a report by World Economic Forum, unemployment or underemployment is the number 1 risk in Europe and it’s likely to impact our society a lot not only in the next 18 months, but its effect may actually follow us for the next 10 years. It’s essential to invest resources in order to create a sustainable environment that supports the young entrepreneurs opening their own ventures. Independently their educational and social background, 1 all stakeholders need to be prepared to support those ones who want to take risk and that seek for an opportunity every day. However, the new generation of entrepreneurs, as one of the stakeholders of this ecosystem, must be as agile thinking and efficient as ever. Due to the fact that they have to be their own teachers in order to handle the interaction of so many entrepreneurial variables. This self-directed learning is even more important considering the fact that the demand for new entrepreneurs is in developing economies. As one of the key factors for success being risk acceptance, they have to plan ahead, be wise and also take advantage of technology when efficient absorption occurs.

The Excellence Awards - European Awards for Junior Enterprises is a competition traditionally organised for and during JADE Spring Meeting. It’s purpose is to showcase the excellent results of the most sucessful Junior Enterprises, results that ultimately speak in the name of the Junior Enterprise movement and become a benchmark for the years to come. All participants receive recognition and visibillity in front of the network and they position themselves as the best in their national confederations. This year’s categories are:
The competition usually has two main phases: 1. Application process: all applicants submit a presentation with the result over the past year and a letter of motivation. The applications are evaluated by JADE Executive Board and the Excellence Awards Jury. 2. Presentation to the Excellence Awards Jury: for JADE Spring Meeting, 2 finalists are chosen for each category for a presentation during the Opening Ceremony in front of the Jury and the participants. This year, the presentations will happen during the Opening Ceremony at Thon Hotel Brussels Center, starting with 3:45 PM, on the 5th of March. The announcement of the winners for each category will happen in a special moment during the Gala Dinner, on the 7th of March. Excellence Awards 2015 applicants:

In order to do that, 12 Junior Entrepreneurs have joined us in JADE House from the 28th of February for a series of activities and trainings that will walk them through the whole event and prepare them to make JADE Spring Meeting a flawless experience. Agenda insights Check-in Regular participants The check-in will be done in Hotel Des Colonies for all the participants. Upon arrival, a member of JADE Team will check your name and will give you your welcome bag. You will be asked to pay a deposit guarantee during check-in of 20 euros: ▶ in case you do not attend one workshop, the deposit will not be refunded. ▶ in case you do not attend two workshops, you will to pay 35€ (20€ of the deposit plus additional 15€). ▶ in case you do not attend all the workshops or Innovation Lab, you will have to pay 50€ (20€ of the deposit plus additional 30€) Non EU Participants Participants who could not pay with bank transfer are kindly asked to ask at the recep- tion desk for late payment check-in. Changing Participants will have a separate room to change their clothes if they need. This room will only be available until 13:45.
Dinners There are two dinners, one on Thursday and one on Friday. You may also order extra on your own expense. The dinner venues are easily acessible from Rogier. You can choose to come from the hotel together with a group organised by JADE. Lunches Both lunches (Friday and Saturday) are standing lunches (with lunch bag). Lunch bags will be provided in the university atrium (Solvay Brussels School) In order to get the lunch bag you need to come with your badge. Please specify if you are a vegetarian. There are no lunches on Thursday or Sunday.
Informal nights
There are two informal nights organised by JADE: First night - Scotts bar: networking and party ▶ We arrive directly from Drug Opera; ▶ The night closes at 2 PM; ▶ The venue is 10 minutes walking distance from the hotels and easily accessible. Second night - Madame Moustache: party ▶ We arrive directly from Amadeo; ▶ All participants will get a FREE voucher ticket from JADE Team. Transfers
Transfers to Solvay Brussels School will be made by bus. The 1 busses leave a few minutes before 9 AM from the hotels. Please look around for the staff and follow their instructions for a more efficient transition.
Workshops You can apply to several workshop sessions in the following way: â–ś For Friday: you can apply to: 1. One workshop in the morning (3 hours) and one workshop in the afternoon (3 hours), 2. Innovation Lab by Bayer which has a duration of 6 hours. â–ś For Saturday you can apply to: 1. Two workshops of 1,5 hours in the morning and one in the afternoon of 2 hours 2. One workshop of 3 hours in the morning and one in the afternoon of 2 hours*. *The JADE House visit (guided by JADE Executive Board) will take place on Saturday after lunch in the 2 hour workshop time frame. It is the ideal moment to have a direct conversation with the team and get insights about JADE activity and how you can apply to be part of the experience, directly from JADE Headquarters. The number of attendants per workshop depends on the room capacity and preference of the workshop giver. Places for the workshop will be occupied in the order of application. Participants who do not apply to any workshop will be automatically assigned to a random workshop after distribution of the rest of attendants.
Gala Dinner
The Gala Dinner and Closing Ceremony will happen during the same night on the 7th of March. The Excellence Awards winners will be announced before midnight. The night will continue with a private party. The venue is quite far from the hotels. We will leave at 8 PM, by bus, at the same time. Please do not be late, as the busses will not be able to wait more than 15 minutes. The dress code for the Gala Dinner is described later in the Survival Guide.
