INTERNATIONAL JURY SELECTS NEW JAGUAR FROM 43 CONTENDERS

F-TYPE SCOOPS WORLD CAR DESIGN OF THE YEAR

The new Jaguar F-TYPE has barely reached the showrooms of Jaguar’s UK dealers – but already there’s fresh cause for celebration. The new ‘1+1’ convertible penned by Jaguar Director of Design Ian Callum and his team has been awarded the prestigious World Car Design of the Year 2013 trophy by an international jury of experts. The award was announced at the New York International Auto Show, and collected by Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar. Six internationally-known design experts produced a shortlist of finalists from the original 43 contenders, before the final consideration by the 66 World Car of the Year jury members. On the F-TYPE, the advisory panel said: “The long wheelbase, short overhangs and flared fenders give this car a good stance. The contour in plan view tapered toward the door emphasises the muscular rear fender that houses the driven wheels. The F-TYPE exterior maintains Jaguar’s own elegance in its horizontal proportion and rounded surfaces, yet it looks very dynamic.” The panel also praised the ‘driver oriented’ interior and ‘superb’ seat design. As Ian Callum commented, ‘The F-TYPE is a sports car that is true to Jaguar’s design values – beauty of line and purity of form – and I’m honoured that the World Car of the Year jury has recognised our work.’

SUNDANCE GRIPPED BY DESIRE ‘Desire’, the film produced by Jaguar and directed by Adam Smith of Ridley Scott Associates, has an impressive pedigree. No surprise then, that it received an enthusiastic welcome for its premiere at the world-renowned Sundance London film and music festival on April 24th. The soundtrack is by Lana Del Rey. Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actor, Damian Lewis, plays the lead alongside Jordi Molla and Shannyn Sossamon. A tale of betrayal, retribution, passion and greed, it may be only 13 minutes and 29 seconds long, but that’s a long time when you’re holding your breath. Yet all those great performances are effortlessly upstaged by the Salsa Red Jaguar F-TYPE, with the snarling backbeat of its supercharged 5.0 litre V8 engine putting you right in the driving seat for an action-packed quarter of an hour, including a surprising twist at the end.

GLOBAL FILM FESTIVAL SCREENS RIDLEY SCOTT F-TYPE MOVIE

Location for the movie was Chile’s Atacama Desert, described as one of the most spectacular landscapes and locations in the world. As director Adam Smith recalled, “We were hugely excited when Jaguar approached us to work on this film, and with such a fantastic cast. For us, Sundance London is the perfect setting to screen ‘Desire’ to a global audience.”

If you haven’t yet seen ‘Desire’ you can still see it on YOUTUBE.COM/JAGUARUK

It was considered the ultimate road race: 1,000 miles of flat-out driving, starting and ending in the northern Italian city of Brescia. The Mille Miglia carved a unique reputation in motorsport history, its route taking in cities, plains and mountain passes and bringing great names like Fangio, Moss, Nuvolari and Ascari to the start line. And although the original race last ran in 1957, the modern-day recreation brings more than 400 classic race and road cars of unique heritage to Italy each May. Among their number, this year’s entry included three priceless C-Type racing cars and three XK120 models entered by Jaguar Heritage Racing.

CHASING HISTORY

JAGUAR HERITAGE RACING ENTERS THREE C-TYPE AND THREE XK120 IN MILLE MIGLIA RE-RUN

STELLAR LINE-UP Jaguar’s driver line-up for the 2013 re-run of the Mille Miglia, held from 16-19 May, was as stellar as the cars themselves. In the seats of three exceptional examples of the Jaguar XK120 were driver pairings of Sir Chris Hoy and Andy Wallace, Daniel Day Lewis and Jim Gianolulos – CEO of 20th Century Fox and fashion icon David Gandy partnering Yasmin Le Bon. Driving the C-Types were Bernard Kuhnt – Jaguar Regional Director for Europe and actress Hannah Herzsprung, Alex Buncombe with Chris Harris, and Salvatore Ferragamo Jr. alongside Michael Quinn – the grandson of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons. Following the classic Jaguars were five new Jaguar F-TYPE sports cars, emphasising the continuity of bloodline that links past with present at Jaguar cars.

MOSS AND DEWIS, DISC BRAKE PIONEERS Although the C-Type never won the Mille Miglia, the competitive event in 1952 saw Jaguar debut the disc brake on its C-Type sports car, piloted then by Jaguar Chief Development Engineer Norman Dewis and Formula 1 legend Sir Stirling Moss. The disc brake gave Jaguar a competitive advantage it later exploited to win Le Mans – a textbook example of racing improving the breed. Director for Europe Bernard Kuhnt said: “Jaguar’s 1952 entry into the Mille Miglia was hugely significant in the evolution of Jaguar products. Seductive design, intelligent performance and technological innovation were features of all Jaguar sports cars in the 1950s and 60s and they are prevalent in the incredible new F-TYPE.”

According to J.D. Power and Associates in partnership with the definitive UK car buying guide, What Car? Jaguar is once again the number one automotive brand in the UK. The accolade takes in everything from design and performance to dealer service and reliability.

As for the Jaguar XF, it can now add the J.D. Power/What Car? Survey 2013 ‘Best Executive Car’ to the its tally of over 100 international awards. The XF was given five-star ratings for performance, service and running costs. Owners commented that they didn’t regret spending a single penny on their Jaguar XF, rating it as ‘excellent’ across all categories.

The study considered the opinions of over 16,000 UK car owners who rated 116 car models from 28 brands. Chas Hallett, What Car? Editor-in-Chief said: “Once again we have received a great response to this year’s annual J.D. Power/What Car? Survey. This clearly shows that car owners are eager to provide manufacturers with feedback on their experiences.

Participants in the J.D. Power/What Car? Survey 2013 noted the high levels of comfort in the XF, citing its luxurious interior and intuitive controls.

Jaguar is triumphant for the second year running in the study. Owners gave Jaguar cars – and slick customer service from its dealers – a big thumbs-up”.

EXCELLENT DEALER SERVICE Jaguar UK dealers also received commendation in the study, and were reported to be helpful and accommodating, providing servicing and repair work at reasonable costs.

DOING THE DOUBLE

‘BEST MANUFACTURER’ AND ‘BEST EXECUTIVE CAR’ IN J.D. POWER/ WHAT CAR? SURVEY 2013 FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

THEY SAY IT’S HARDER TO RETAIN A TITLE THAN TO WIN IT. YET THAT’S PRECISELY WHAT JAGUAR HAS JUST DONE: RETAINING ITS HARD-WON ‘BEST MANUFACTURER’ AND ‘BEST EXECUTIVE CAR’ TITLES IN THE UK’S LARGEST AND MOST AUTHORITATIVE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY, THE J.D. POWER/WHAT CAR? SURVEY 2013.

TAKE THE GUESSWORK OUT OF MILEAGE CLAIMS The new Jaguar corporate website is designed to help fleet, businesses and company car drivers choose the best model for their needs. As well as a full listing of prices and specifications for the Jaguar range, it offers specification-adjusted competitor comparisons as well as a company car tax calculator. Another helpful app, the fleet mileage tracker, gives you an instant mileage readout for any journey in the UK. You can either use the address look-up facility or let the GPS tracker in your smartphone log your mileage for business claims. But that’s not all. You can also input the relevant pence per mile claim rate and the app will collate all your mileage, add up the cost and send it to you in spreadsheet form. Compared with laboriously looking up all your journey mileages online, or keeping a note of your car mileage reading, this simple to use app could save hours when you’re compiling your business expenses. It’s all part of the Jaguar corporate service – making life easier and more straightforward for business driver and fleet managers. Meanwhile Velo-Jaguar events throughout the UK are involving more and more people at the grass roots, in this ever popular, performance-oriented sport. Team Sky and Jaguar – racing highlights for the summer

It was one of the enduring sporting images of last summer: the dominant Team Sky riders entering Paris with their leader, Bradley Wiggins, in yellow. And behind them the ever-vigilant team directors in the all new Jaguar XF Sportbrake. From Alpine mountain hairpins to the Champs-Élysées, Team Sky showed what talent, dedication and innovative technology can do. Its philosophy of ‘marginal gains’ applies to every piece of equipment it uses – so when it comes to transport for the team’s support crew, it wants nothing but the best. Jaguar has supported Team Sky since 2009, and this year XF Sportbrake team vehicles continue to be an integral part of the team’s efforts to chalk up yet more victories. Last year’s Tour winner, now Sir Bradley Wiggins, has faced some challenges this year but teammate Chris Froome has already won the Critérium du Dauphiné, the traditional warm-up for the Tour de France. You could say it’s looking good for a British double in 2013.

Planning to drive your Jaguar to France this summer? You might like to catch one of the Tour de France stages to cheer on the Team Sky riders. Alternatively, the Tour of Britain takes in Scotland, the Lake District, Wales and Dartmoor before finishing in London’s Whitehall. XF Sportbrake on Tour The XF Sportbrake made its first appearance during the 2012 Tour de France, where it celebrated Team Sky’s historic win on the Champs-Élysées with a distinctive yellow line on the car. For 2013 Jaguar is providing the team with a full fleet of XF Sportbrake models as they pursue a repeat success. Dave Brailsford, Team Sky’s Team Principal said: “We’re delighted with the way that the XF Sportbrake performs, and can’t wait to have a full fleet in 2013. For a team that uses marginal gains to aid our success, this is the perfect vehicle.” This year’s route starts in Corsica, before winding its way around France and finishing with the traditional sprint on Paris’ Champs-Élysées on Sunday, 21 July. This year Jaguar Design challenged students at the Royal College of Art to ‘propose an exterior form study that expresses the future of Jaguar Design Language in a sports or luxury aspect’. Teams of students from both vehicle design and textile design backgrounds were asked to consider proportions, surfacing, line interactions and aesthetic beauty when expressing their vision of Jaguar’s future design language. Nine different teams each presented their outstanding proposals and after careful deliberation by the Jaguar Advanced Design team, the submission of RCA students Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller emerged as the favourite. Next, the duo were tasked to turn their prize-winning design into an installation for Clerkenwell Design Week, working with Jaguar’s Advanced Design team in Whitley, Coventry, and using many of the technologies and facilities employed in the creation of Jaguar concept cars and production designs. Julian Thomson, Jaguar Advanced Design Director said: “Jaguar enjoys a successful relationship with the Royal College of Art and several Jaguar designers, including myself and Ian Callum, are RCA alumni. This has been a fantastic opportunity to once again work with the best car design students in the world and challenge both ourselves and the students with a view on how expressive Jaguar design can become in the future”.

A PASSION FOR CREATIVITY CLERKENWELL DESIGN WEEK SHOWCASES JAGUAR-INSPIRED DESIGN

From the low, sweeping lines of the flagship XJ to the taut and muscular shape of the new F-TYPE, innovation and creativity drive Jaguar’s design language. So, Jaguar’s sponsorship of the agenda-setting Clerkenwell Design Week, celebrated for the third year running in 2013, makes perfect sense. Over the three days of the event, held from 21-23 May, visitors to the festival were treated to the best of contemporary creativity in the design, architectural and creative fields with three F-TYPE models on display, which attracted a wealth of interest.

THE LATEST ‘R’ PERFORMANCE JAGUAR – THE NEW XKR-S GT – HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS THE RAREST AND MOST PERFORMANCE-FOCUSED YET. INITIAL PRODUCTION OF THE TRACK-FOCUSED JAGUAR WILL BE LIMITED TO JUST 30 EXAMPLES.

The new XKR-S GT is based on the 5.0 litre supercharged XKR-S with its 550PS engine. Bespoke carbon fibre components, including an extended front splitter, dive-planes and elevated rear wing, maximise the XKR-S GT’s aerodynamic down force.

The aerodynamic and suspension changes, plus revisions to the traction control system’s calibration, result in a 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds. Electronically limited top speed is 186mph. The XKR-S GT will be exclusively available in Polaris White with unique graphics and Jaguar R-S GT script on its louvered bonnet. Inside, the Warm Charcoal interior with red accents features 16-way electrically adjustable ‘Performance’ seats finished in soft grain leather and suedecloth with the Jaguar and R-S GT scripts integrated into the backrests.

Previous Jaguar models developed by the ETO team include the XKR-S, the XJ Ultimate and the XFR-S.

JAGUAR R CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF HIGH PERFORMANCE The letter ‘R’ has a special significance to performance car enthusiasts. From their first motorsport forays to the present day, Jaguar models with the ‘R’ suffix have won countless motor races – and thrilled road car drivers too – in twenty-five years of adrenaline-fuelled thrills. The first Jaguars to bear the ‘R’ badge were the XJR racing cars which campaigned in the World Sportscar Championship from 1983. The best-known was the Jaguar V12-powered XJR-9 in which Andy Wallace, Johnny Dumfries and Jan Lammers took victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1988 – the first Jaguar to win at the La Sarthe circuit since the D-Type success of the 1950s. The same year, Martin Brundle won the WSCC in his XJR-9 by a record margin, and he too would go on to win Le Mans in the XJR-12 in 1990. All without compromising the high levels of comfort and luxury that Jaguar is known for. The latest model to join the ‘R’ line-up, the XJR, represents the pinnacle of Jaguar engineering, design and craftsmanship. Its 5.0 litre V8 550PS supercharged petrol engine has been uprated, tuned and calibrated to produce a top speed of 174mph. 0-60mph takes just 4.4 seconds, while Adaptive Dynamics sharpen the already impressive handling, continuously monitoring the road and driver inputs. From outside, the XJR is distinguished by a revised front bumper featuring a splitter, as well as unique side sills and a rear spoiler. The luxurious and contemporary interior is available with a choice of five colour themes and two veneers. Check out the R performance range on JAGUAR.CO.UK – or ask our sales team for details

What places, experiences and icons say ‘Modern Britain’ to you? It could be the brilliant mix of old and new at the St Pancras Eurostar terminal. Or the Olympic Park, reclaiming an industrial waste land and turning it into a vibrant new leisure space. Perhaps it’s not a place but an event, like Glastonbury, the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the Tour of Britain cycle race. Each of us has our own take on Modern Britain – that’s part of what makes this country so dynamic and fascinating. And now, Jaguar is inviting you to share your view with our Your Turn Britain competition. Share an image of what you think represents the best of contemporary Britain for a chance to win one of four exclusive drives with our definition of Modern Britain – the Jaguar F-TYPE. Each drive includes a whole weekend with an F-TYPE and your own programme of unforgettable experiences, themed to either design, music, film or sport. There are also weekly prizes to be won for each week’s most inspiring entry. And to help you find inspiration, Jaguar has asked four F-TYPE ambassadors from the worlds of design, music, film and sport to share their interpretations of Modern Britain with us. You can watch films from each of our ambassadors at www.yourturnbritain.co.uk

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON MODERN BRITAIN? Now it’s Your Turn. Share your images using Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr using #YourTurnBritain, or upload your images to our dedicated app on the Jaguar UK Facebook page. We’re looking for images and ideas that express the diversity, vitality and creativity of this country, and strike a chord with others. THE JAGUAR F-TYPE – A MODERN BRITISH ICON With models like the E-Type and XK120 in its back catalogue, Jaguar has an extraordinary pedigree of British icons. But Jaguar’s design and engineering teams constantly look forward, not back – and the latest expression of their technology and vision is the new F-TYPE. Advanced, alive, involving and sensational to look at from every angle, it’s the perfect expression of Modern Britain. Our ambassadors will each have an F-TYPE to enjoy as they visit a place that epitomises Modern Britain to them – and if your image is chosen by our judges, it will be Your Turn to take the driving seat.
