AUTUMN 2013
THE JAGUAR MAGAZINE
welcome AUTUMN 2013
What separates true champions from mere winners? It’s the ability to come back and defend your title. That’s what Team Sky did in this summer’s Tour de France, as its new leader Chris Froome took the yellow jersey won so convincingly in 2012 by Sir Bradley Wiggins. And it’s what Jaguar Dealers, ourselves included, have just done, retaining first place in the J.D. Power Dealership Satisfaction Survey for the second consecutive year. You can read all about both victories in this issue of Expression – and there’s much more to enjoy. Like the surprise dynamic debut of Jaguar’s C-X75 at Goodwood Festival of Speed. A stunning hybrid supercar that demonstrates the incredible expertise and advanced technology at Jaguar’s disposal. Or the sharp-looking new Jaguar XF R-Sport, which combines distinctive design, fuel-efficient performance and Jaguar refinement to brilliant effect. This Autumn Jaguar ride outs throughout the UK gave keen cyclists the opportunity to ‘Ride like a pro’. They even enjoyed an XF Sportbrake support vehicle, just like Sir Bradley and Chris! Alternatively, perhaps you’ll accept our warm invitation to call in at the showroom to see our latest model line-up. It’s a less exhausting way to join a winning team…

JAGUAR DEALERS TOP CUSTOMER POLL SECOND CONSECUTIVE NO.1 RANKING IN MAJOR SURVEY Jaguar Dealers are the very best for customer service – and that’s official. For the second consecutive year, Jaguar Dealers have been ranked number one in the UK for customer service by the authoritative What Car? J.D. Power Dealer Satisfaction Survey. Jaguar Dealers scored an exceptional 85.5% satisfaction rating, ahead of Lexus, Mercedes and Honda. The analysis is based on the opinions of 13,511 customers who had a service experience with their Dealership within the past 12 months. Feedback was given on vehicles bought between January 2010
and December 2011 and focused on Dealer service; including the booking process, overall staff helpfulness, Dealership facilities, quality of work and how fair the service charges were. The latest rating of number one for Dealer satisfaction is just one of several major surveys that Jaguar has topped in 2013. Earlier this year, Jaguar retained its ‘Best Manufacturer’ title in the What Car? J.D. Power Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction survey, while the XF was named ‘Best Executive’ once again.
It was a sight to fill any Brit with patriotic pride; London’s Mall packed out with world-beating British vehicles, from tanks to Formula One cars. And leading the way in red, white and blue were three Jaguar F-TYPE sports cars driven by the familiar trio of Clarkson, May and Hammond.
F-TYPES BEST OF AUSSIES GAIN THEIR REVENGE VISITORS TAKE VICTORY ON THE TRACK AS COMPENSATION FOR ASHES DEFEAT England may have retained the Ashes – but there’s still plenty of fire in cricket’s oldest rivalry. Competition was keen when three England cricketers and three former Australian cricketers were put through their paces in the new Jaguar XFR-S at Jaguar’s proving ground in Warwickshire.
The challenge set was to steer the Jaguar through a slalom course then return it to the start line in as fast a time as possible, with time penalties for clipping cones. Each player’s time was recorded and aggregated to give a cumulative team time. Representing England were James Anderson, Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott. Former wearers of the famous ‘baggy green’ of Australia were Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes and Damien Martyn. On the day the Australians took the honours, with Shaun Tait recording the fastest time of the day.
Around £200m-worth of great British automotive achievements featured in the episode, which concluded the 20th series of Top Gear. The three presenters’ F-TYPE Jaguars were festooned with Union Jacks. There was a serious point to the parade, which aimed to correct the impression that Britain’s best days of engineering innovation and capability are in the past. To prove it, Top Gear’s trio decided to list just how much vehicle engineering, design and construction still goes on in the UK. And get every manufacturer and supplier in Britain to send examples of their work to a unique gathering in London.
Earlier in the same programme Jeremy Clarkson had tested the F-TYPE and, even given his usual all or nothing approach to car reviews, it’s safe to say he liked it. He voiced some criticism of the boot space, although a more objective appraisal reveals it’s the biggest in its class. However, he loved its handling and wide range of “intoxicating” engine noises, declaring “it’s an X-rated hard-core monster for the terminally unhinged”. Given Clarkson’s unique way with the English language, that’s about as good as it gets.
“…an exceptional sports car, sharp and invigorating and full of life and charisma. It’s a car Jaguar should be proud of, the best sports car to emerge from Britain in a mighty long time.” JEREMY CLARKSON

GOLDEN PAST BRIGHT FUTURE
JAGUAR’S RACING PAST AND FUTURE TECHNOLOGY ON SHOW AT THE NÜRBURGRING
The Oltimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring welcomed some of the greatest racing cars of the past for a weekend of close circuit racing on August 9-11. But this year spectators were also treated to a glimpse of future supercar technology, as Jaguar displayed its C-X75 hybrid concept in the Jaguar hospitality zone in the paddock. On track, historic Jaguars from the company’s Heritage Racing team were in the thick of the racing action. Jaguar Heritage Racing
driver Alex Buncombe teamed up with Le Mans-winning legend Andy Wallace and German journalist Roland Löwisch to contest the AvD Tourenwagen Trophy in a Jaguar Mark II. Friday’s AvD Historic Marathon, held on the famous 12.9 mile Nordschleife circuit, saw Marcus von Oeynhausen’s Gotcha Racing Jaguar E-Type on pole with a time of 8 minutes 1.338 seconds, 27 seconds quicker than the second-placed Ford GT40. Sadly Marcus suffered a rare distributor failure in the race, though the Wyndham/Hill Jaguar E-Type did manage a consolatory podium place. Later in the weekend Alex Buncombe won the Gentleman Drivers’ GT race in his E-Type. The C-X75 drew crowds of admirers throughout the event. Although Jaguar has taken the decision not to go to production, it’s a showcase for Jaguar’s world-leading expertise in lightweight vehicle construction and the ideal test-bed for the company’s research into high-performance, low-emission powertrains.
CROWNING GLORY Jaguar Land Rover at Coronation Festival celebration Jaguar along with Land Rover played a starring role at a unique event in London showcasing the best of British innovation, excellence and industry. The Coronation Festival celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty the Queen, and was held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace between July 11–14. It was hosted by the Royal Warrant Holders Association, and brought together more than 200 businesses. On display was the oldest surviving open Jaguar E-Type, built in 1961, while a Jaguar XJ limousine, one of two presented to Her Majesty, represented the present. The cars are specially extended versions of the long-wheelbase Jaguar XJ, and finished in Royal Claret and black livery.
Other current Jaguars on show included a Jaguar F-TYPE and a Jaguar XF Sportbrake. The future was represented by the Jaguar C-X75, a prototype hybrid supercar concept which combines the fuel efficiency of a low-emission city car with a potential top speed of 220 mph. Jaguar Land Rover is the only automotive manufacturer to hold all three Warrants as suppliers of goods and services to the households of Her Majesty the Queen, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and HRH the Prince of Wales. The celebration was a huge success, welcoming more than 60,000 visitors over four days.
HOME TOUR HEROES TOUR OF BRITAIN 15-22 SEPTEMBER
You wait 100 years for a British winner of the Tour de France – then two come along in quick succession. Last year’s proud winner Sir Bradley Wiggins couldn’t return to defend his title this year, but his team mate and the 2012 second-placed rider, Chris Froome, won the 2013 edition of the Tour de France with panache, making it two in a row for Jaguar-backed Sky Pro Cycling. Following Froome and the rest of the Sky Pro Cycling Team as they blitzed the opposition on one of the most mountainous tour routes in recent
RIDING Britain’s tour hasn’t got the history to rival the Tour de France – but has become a must-see event in its own right. And with top teams like Sky Pro Cycling, Garmin Sharp and Omega Pharma Lotto participating, spectators can see Tour stars swap the Alps and Pyrenees for the different challenges of the Scottish Highlands and Peak District. At the final stage thousands of people lined the streets of central London to watch Sir Bradley Wiggins come home victorious, proving the Tour of Britain is a great sporting occasion. A TASTE OF THE PELOTON Thousands of Jaguar owners throughout the country have taken up road cycling, whether competitively or as a means of getting fit. So this autumn, selected Jaguar Dealers offered customers the unique opportunity to experience riding like a pro – complete with an XF Sportbrake support vehicle.
Non-competitive ride outs throughout the UK provided a great combination of exercise and the chance to socialise with fellow enthusiasts. Every participating rider’s name was entered into a free draw, with the finalists invited to a unique ‘ride and drive’ challenge. This included hot laps in an F-TYPE and a time-trial on two wheels. The two finalists with the fastest combined time won a place at the Sky Pro Cycling Majorca training camp – and you can read how they got on in the next issue of Expression.

NEW R-SPORT COMBINES SPORTY LOOKS WITH LOW CO2 TECHNOLOGY
Whether you’re a company car driver or a private owner, the dilemma you face is the same. You want a powerful, sporty and well-equipped saloon – but you’d rather not be penalised by the taxman. Step forward the new XF R-Sport: an appealing blend of sporty looks and fuel-efficient performance.
LOOKS THE BUSINESS
The R-Sport standard specification is available with the 2.2 litre 163PS powertrain, which features 8-speed automatic transmission and Stop/Start fuel saving technology. As a result CO2 emissions are just 129 g/km, which for businesses means it’s within the 18% threshold for write down allowances. Alternatively, the R-Sport specification is also available with 200PS and 240PS powertrains for added performance.
Eye-catching inside and out, the R-Sport models feature a sport front bumper, ‘R’-style side sills and rear spoiler with a range of alloy wheels. Inside, Piano Black veneer and Charcoal upholstery with Dove contrast stitching continue the sporting theme. Further subtle touches include Jet Morzine headlining materials, R-Sport badging, Gloss Black side window surrounds and stainless steel pedals.
LEADERSHIP. IT’S ALL ABOUT PERFORMANCE. Jaguar sponsors Institute of Directors annual conference. Visitors to the IoD annual convention at the Albert Hall on September 18 enjoyed a distraction from the conference speeches, in the form of a display of Jaguar models including the new XJR and F-TYPE. The iconic entrance archway at door 6 even featured a Jaguar wheel. Speakers this year included London Mayor Boris Johnson, who was very complementary about Jaguar and the impact Jaguar Land Rover is having on the economy ‘Manager of the Century’ Jack Welsh, formerly CEO of General Electric; the Virgin Group’s charismatic leader Sir Richard Branson and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt. Hon George Osborne. Around 2,500 business leaders attend the annual convention each year, making it an ideal forum for Jaguar sponsorship. As the entrance hall banners proclaim: ‘Leadership. It’s all about performance’.

PROJECT 7 SHOWS ITS PACE DOUBLE JAGUAR ‘TREAT’ FOR FESTIVAL OF SPEED SPECTATORS While spectators were still recovering from the amazing sight (and sound) of the C-X75 hybrid supercar, another inspiring Jaguar blasted its way up the Goodwood Hill. Project 7 is based on the F-TYPE but inspired by Jaguar’s seven victories at Le Mans between 1951 and 1990, while its striking blue paintwork is reminiscent of the victorious Jaguar D-Types of 1956 and 1957. Although not intended for production, Project 7 is a fully-functional, high-performance sports car featuring the 550PS version of Jaguar’s 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged engine – an increase of 55PS over the F-TYPE V8 S. Project 7 also features a free-flow exhaust system with a ceramic finish, 10mm lower ride height and a unique spring/damper tune. The exterior celebrates Jaguar’s sporting bloodline, with the most prominent change being the D-Type-inspired rear fairing section that incorporates a rollover hoop and swoops down from behind the driver’s head. Aero modifications include a carbon fibre front splitter, side skirts, large rear diffuser and a fixed rear spoiler with a 14-degree angle of attack, giving Project 7 a low, muscular stance. Project 7 was created by a team led by Director of Design, Ian Callum as a one-off design study and driven at the Festival of Speed by Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity.
