Empowering Women to Empower Nations ISSUE 35
JANUARY
Hello Ladies Happy New Year!!! We have pleasure in bringing you our first EW Newsletter for 2012. I don’t know about you, but I am extremely expectant this year. There are so many opportunities that will be available to all of us this year. The difference between those who will sit on the side lines and the opportunity pass them by and those who will take advantage of what is available to them this year is down to:
HAVING A NEW MIND FOR A NEW YEAR I hear it all the time, the start of the year and people are looking at what New Year resolu- Inside this issue: tions they would like to put in place. We all have the best intentions and the commitment 3 The Mentoring to see that we make strategic plans to achieving our goals. I could name some of the Academy E—Learning goals that seem to be a reoccurring presence on the list: losing weight, getting out of debt, Centre & Resource making more money, starting a business, buying a property, developing more of a spiritual st lifestyle, the list is endless. On the 1 of January, everyone is wishing everyone a Happy Empowered Woman 3 New Year and it is indeed a new year, but I would like you to consider a question – Ministries What mind set did you start the New Year with? (Pause) Did your mind come into the New Year with an old belief, old concept, old thought, or an old method of doing what you’ve always been doing? If it did, then you won’t get further than the paper you wrote your resolutions on. A new year means a new thought mind, doing things differently, approaching solutions from a new angle. In your job or business, there are times when you will need to sit down with your management committee to see how the business is growing, what old ideas are not working and need to be thrown out, what new ideas need to be built on to bring growth, sustainability and progress, you may even go as far as removing people who are not developing in line with your vision and recruit people who will take the business to the next level. There are no sentiments about it, to maintain growth, you have to do it. If you’re working, I don’t think your boss will consider keeping you on if he or she feels that there’s nothing more you can add to their vision. That’s the way life is, it’s not personal; it’s business! This is the same way you ought to be approaching your own progress in a new year. Analysing what worked, what didn’t work, why it didn’t work and what new approaches should be used to help you achieve. Even Jesus said it to the people who asked him why His disciples didn’t fast like John’s disciples and the Pharisees. He replied with an answer – “Do wedding guests fast while celebrating with the groom? Of course not; they can’t fast while the groom is with them, but someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast”. Mark 2:19-20 It was normal for the Pharisees and John the Baptiste disciples to fast, it was a religious requirement; however Jesus who came to do away with old beliefs, opinions and stagnant routines didn’t say they shouldn’t fast, but to merely know when to fast.
