EXERCISE 2 THE ANALYSIS OF URBAN BUILDINGS AND THEIR FACADES
The Eberwalde Technical School Library facade utilizes a grid structure and repitition of images to relate to its historical context in a contemporary fashion. Objectives: Analize the Eberswalde Techinical School Library by Herzog & De Meuron and Illustrate the mahor design desisions in the project. Discover the themes showcased throughout the building and how the context and program influenced the design.
The Eberswalde Library relates thethe popart movement and other contemporary artwork.

EBERSWALDE TECHNICAL SCHOOL LIBRARY RELATION TO POP ART
Using a silkscreen technique, the images are transfered to a plastic film and then placed onto the facade. Then concrete is poured over it. The cure used for the silk screen prohibits the concrete from setting. Parts of the concrete is then washed away and what remains is the intended image.

EXERCISE 3: DESIGNING AN URBAN BUILDING (FROM OUTSIDE IN AND INSIDE OUT)
The Pompecuse
Nest a system of programs and open circulation within a separate, all encompasing structural grid. These two systems embody the dual nature of leisure, associated with the creekwalk, and the rigidity and structure of an archive and research center.
This project utilizes an over-arching structural grid to create an all-encompassing screen that houses various programs and allows for open circulation. I address this by creating a thick outer structure that wraps around the program system within. Within this structural cage, an open floorplan and various stairs allows for free circulation. This open circulation within the building juxtaposes the thick, wrapping diagrid. The programs disrupt the outer system and extrude through it to create views to the creekwalk and surrounding site. In this way the points of intersectionbetween the program and the structural grid create unconventional occupiable space. In an effort to create a hybrid of an archive and a public space, open circulation and indoor/outdoor stairs connect the interior to the creekwalk. This serves to challenge the notion of the traditional archive and posit an alternative that engages with the public realm.
