What is Courage? An act of courage is acknowledging danger yet overcoming fear and remaining committed to a pursuit. It is a personal thing; no one can be courageous for you and me. Each one of us has to make the choice on our own, to sacrifice if necessary. It comes down to what we are prepared to stake our reputations and lives on. To be deemed courageous we must be ready to test uncharted waters. That means we stay true to our ideals realizing the road ahead may have many pitfalls not certain if we can endure to the end. There is always a level of fear and doubt nevertheless that often becomes the elements that incite us to accomplish things we never imagined. Even though we don't know how things will turn out that should not deter us from trying while we see our cause as worthy. It is a challenge to ourselves to explore what we are truly capable of. Void of great risk and sacrifice courage does not exist. Defying all odds, doing the unpopular and challenging the impossible all amount to courage. This is when individual like you choose to be abnormal, uncomfortable, experience great agony, operate under unbearable stress and pressure while remaining resolute to a cause you deem necessary and important. Bravery is never easy; many times we will have to go it alone void of support and public approval. It boils down to the value we put in achieving what we set out to do. Many times we will not have a chance to think; courage can be instinctive, an impulse that launches us from what once was unreal to a place where we believe it is possible. We go beyond reason into a time in space where all we have is our will to achieve and trust in our abilities; the only way to survive or endure is to believe in ourselves and remain steadfast in our convictions. Courage is believing when no one else will, having faith in an idea or principle when others think we are crazy, standing up for something or someone when it is unpopular, and taking on danger because we know the cause is just. Even though the course is laced with uncertainty, difficulties, risk, danger and the outcome is not clear we choose to go it anyway.
