James Eakin
James Granville Eakin has received numerous commissions from some of the leading performers and ensembles in the US. Since 2001, he has been the Composer-In-Residence for the Turtle Creek Chorale and has been on the Aspen Music Festival and School faculty since 2004. Dr. Eakin earned a B.M. from Centenary College, a M.M. from Southern Methodist University and a D.M.A. from the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has studied with such notable composers as Chen Yi, Zhou Long, James Mobberley, John Corigliano and George Tsontakis. As a performer, Dr. Eakin is a bass vocalist and is a founding member of Armonia, a professional early music ensemble based in Kansas City, Missouri. He has performed throughout Europe and the US. In 1998, he was a soloist at the President's Christmas Gala at the White House. Eakin's music is published by E.C. Schirmer, Lux Nova Press, Shawnee Press, and James Eakin Publications.
